WCW Thursday Thunder June 7, 2001 Announcers: Scott Hudson & Don Callis Scott Hudson welcomed us in for the debut of WCW Thursday Thunder on the WB Network - joining him was WCW's newest color commentator, Don Callis. They immediately hyped up tonight's BattleBowl with the winner receiving a WCW World Title shot on next week's Tuesday Nitro! BattleBowl Tag Match Billy Kidman & Andrew Martin (w/Torrie Wilson) vs. Rey Mysterio & Shawn Stasiak The WCW tag champs were on opposing sides of the ring as Mysterio had the unfortunate task of teaming with one-half of their opponents at The Great American Bash, Shawn Stasiak. Kidman and Martin worked together well for two guys who have never been in the ring with one another. Mysterio and Kidman found themselves in the ring against one another briefly, and when Mysterio had his partner down on the mat...Stasiak tagged himself in to take over. Stasiak took control of Kidman as Rey watched on from the apron. Stasiak laid out Kidman with a swinging neckbreaker then turned to his own partner and began trash talking him. He spit in Rey's face before turning back around to go back to work on Kidman. However, Rey did not take being spit on kindly, so when Stasiak turned back around...he was hit with a springboard dropkick from Rey! Rey rolled out of the ring as Kidman took the opportunity to tag in Andrew Martin. Rey watched from ringside as Stasiak found himself all alone thanks to own his deeds, and Martin finished Stasiak off with a Big Boot followed by the Pumphandle Slam for the three count. WINNERS - Kidman & Martin by pinfall (73/67/79) After the match, Rey Mysterio re-entered the ring and celebrated with the faces - giving respect to his partner and wishing him the best in the main event, possibly to earn a shot at Ric Flair's WCW title. ----- Disappointment in Defeat Backstage in the private suite of The Gentlemen's Club - Shawn Stasiak returned to the suite after his loss. Curt Hennig immediately disapproved of Stasiak's loss - asking him what just happened out there. Stasiak tried to explain himself, siting that he was turned on by his partner. Mark Jindrak defended his partner, calling Rey Mysterio a sneaky little jumping bean. Flair admitted that what happened out there was cheap - and Stasiak could have easily won if he was not blindsided by his own partner. Flair said he was not worried about either man who advanced - claiming he's squashed bigger things with his boot than Kidman - and Andrew Martin couldn't cut in up North and he definitely can't cut it in WCW. The rest of the Gentlemen's Club settled in to watch the rest of the BattleBowl. (93%) ----- BattleBowl Tag Match Shane Helms & Hugh Morrus vs. Shane Douglas & Konnan Konnan and Douglas played the part of reluctant partners here, while Helms and Morrus seemed pleased with their results in the lethal lottery drawing. Douglas and Konnan put aside their reluctant feelings in order to try and advance. Hugh Morrus took control of the match, working over Konnan while a frustrated Douglas pounded the turnbuckle in anger every time Konnan got sent down to the mat by Morrus. Once Helms found himself in the ring, he continued to use the advantage Morrus created, but off the ropes - Douglas slapped Konnan on the back to tag himself in. Douglas blindsided Helms and took control. From here, Douglas and Konnan took turns blind tagging the other, much to the dismay of the other one - taking turns taking the offense to Helms. A miscommunication allowed Helms to get the upperhand as he ducked a clothesline attempt from Douglas who ended up hitting his own partner. Konnan fell off the apron as Helms made the hot tag to Morrus. Morrus came in and immediatel took it to Douglas, overpowering the US Champion and hitting him with a big powerslam. As Morrus climbed to the top turnbuckle, Konnan started to try and pull himself back into the ring - but Helms springboarded off the adjacent ropes and hit a jumping side kick to Konnan to knock him back down off the apron as Morrus hit the No Laughing Matter to Douglas! One - Two- Three! Morrus pinned the US Champion to advance himself and Helms to the Battle Royal. WINNERS - Hugh Morrus & Shane Helms by pinfall (73/69/77) After the match, Douglas and Konnan were just left to argue amongst themselves as Helms and Morrus celebrated up the aisle - giving attention to the fans as they headed to the back. ----- A Sit Down With Sting Scott Hudson introduced the next segment by saying that Mike Tenay will be sitting down with each of the challengers at Bash at the Beach for a one-on-one interview to get their thoughts on the match, Ric Flair, and other things along the way. In this pre-recorded interview, Mike Tenay and Sting sat opposite each other in an empty studio. Tenay congratulated Sting on earning himself another title shot. Sting thanked Tenay and talked about how at this stage of his career, he was grateful for every opportunity he gets. He knows he's had a lot of time in the spotlight - and is thankful for every minute of fame and glory he had along the way. Tenay wanted to know how much longer Sting thought he would continue to lace up the boots. Sting responded by saying that he would continue to do it as long as he knew without a shadow of a doubt that he could go out there and give it 110% for himself and the fans. The day he begins to have second thoughts when walking through the curtain to come down to the ring...when he begins to think that his heart isn't into it anymore...that's the day he will walk away. He can't tell us when it will be because honestly he doesn't even know himself. But to continue to wrestle without the dedication would be cheating himself and the fans. Sting said that too often he'd seen veterans stay in it longer than they needed to. People who kept going out to the ring not because they wanted to, but because they just wanted to pick up anothey paycheck. A lot of people in this business aren't too wise with their money...but Sting assured us he wasn't like those guys. When the day comes that he can no longer put his all into his matches...he's prepared both mentally and financially to walk away. Mike Tenay asked about Ric Flair...did Sting think he was still putting his all into coming out to the ring? Sting said he couldn't speak for Flair. Only Flair knows what is in his heart and if he truly wants to be in the ring. He hopes the answer is yes. Finally Tenay wanted to talk to Sting about the actual title match at The Great American Bash. Sting was looking forward to being in the ring with Flair again and loved the opportunity to get another title reign under his belt. Sting didn't care who else was in the match because all that truly mattered was the opportunity. Tenay wanted to get Sting's thought's on Goldberg's turn. Sting always had a bad feeling about Goldberg. He always wondered where his head really was. The guy came in from a failed football career and turned to wrestling. That just screamed a guy in it for the fame and the money. He found people like Goldberg to truly be the scum of the Earth. And if he doesn't walk out as WCW Champion, he can only pray that anyone but Goldberg does...and that includes Flair. Tenay thanked Sting for his time and told him he looked forward to seeing him in the main event of the Bash. (80%) ----- BattleBowl Tag Match Booker T & Curt Hennig vs. Lance storm & Mark Jindrak (w/Stacy Keibler) Booker T certainly could not be happy about who the lottery selected to be his tag partner. Booker has been trying valiantly to get another shot at the WCW Title...but the Gentlemen's Club certainly has been doing anything within their power to keep him from even being able to attemp to contend. And with two Gentlemen's Club members in this match along with the crafty Lance Storm - his odd's couldn't be considered great here. Sure enough, as soon as all four men had made their way down to the ring...Hennig jumped his partner from behind - and Storm and Jindrak joined in. It was a three an one, which Booker T tried to fight back against...but the numbers were just too much. Hennig just stood back and watched as Storm and Jindrak stomped a mudhole into Booker T. Storm walked out to the corner as Jindrak hit the Mark of Excellence to Booker T! Jindrak made the cover and the referee had no choice but to make the three count. WINNERS - Lance Storm & Mark Jindrak by pinfall (78/77/80) Hennig raised Storm and Jindrak's arms up in victory as Booker T rolled out of the ring and tried to get the power to get back to his feet. ----- Enough is Enough Backstage - new backstage interviewer Michelle Gold was standing by with a visibly upset Booker T. Gold wanted to get Booker's thoughts on the BattleBowl loss - Booker T said he was sick and damn tired of Curt Hennig and the Gentlemen's Club doing everything in their power to keep him from getting a rematch with Ric Flair. He understand why their afraid to have him face off against Flair again, but it's getting re-damn-diculous. He said if that sucka Curt Hennig wants to step up and face him like a man - he'd have no problem kickin' his little ass. Apparently, Shane McMahon was listening and he agreed completely with Booker T. In fact, he agrees so much that he is going to make a match for the Great American Bash...Booker T versus Curt Hennig! Booker T nodded his head, liking the sound of that. But that's not all...he's going to make that match be the final qualifying match for the Four-Way match! That's right...if Booker T wins, Booker T will be in the Main Event. BUT, if Hennig wins - he'll be in the main event! Booker T had no problem with that announcement...so Hennig, Flair and the rest of the Gentlemen's Club...CAN YOU DIG THAT... SSSSSSSSSSUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCKKKKKKKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! (87%) ----- BattleBowl Tag Match Dustin Rhodes & Chuck Palumbo vs. Crowbar & Sean O'Haire Interestingly enough, Crowbar and Sean O'Hare are actually matched up against one another in the quarter-finals of the Extreme Championship tournament. However here they seem to work together as two slightly unstable individuals. Meanwhile, on the other side of the ring - Chuck Palumbo wanted nothing to do with his mentally unstable former tag partner. Palumbo did everything in his power to not be in the ring at the same time as O'Haire. As soon as O'Haire would get tagged in, Palumbo immediately tagged in Rhodes...who seemed very annoyed at Palumbo. But not wanting to lose out on a potential title shot, Rhodes put up with Palumbo long enough to stay in the match. In fact, Rhodes was firmly in control of Crowbar - picking up a few nearfalls only to have O'Haire break it up. However, a last ditch effort from Crowbar saw him come off the ropes with a spinning heel kick to Rhodes. Both men were down, but Crowbar made the tag to O'Haire first. Rhodes made the crawl over and went for the tag to Palumbo - but seeing O'Haire in the ring, Palumbo jumped down off the apron! Rhodes was left to find for himself as O'Haire lifted Rhodes up and hit him with a fireman's carry into a DDT. O'Haire climbed to the top rope and came off with the Seanton Bomb to pick up a three count victory as Palumbo watched on from ringside. WINNERS - Crowbar & Sean O'Haire by pinfall (75/71/79) ----- Page Attacked! The camera crew cut to backstage where Diamond Dallas Page had been laid out in what looked to be an obvious assault. WCW officials raced to the scene as well as Shane McMahon. McMahon asked one of the medics what he thought - if Page was going to be able to recover to wrestle in his BattleBowl match upcoming - the medic responded that he's completely out of it - no way he's going to be able to compete tonight. As 'luck' would have it, Kimberly Page walked into the shot along with her new man, Johnny 'The Bull' Stamboili. Kimberly pretended to be distraught and surprised over the assault to her estranged husband. Kimberly said he knew this must put Shane in quite the bind, but they'd be willing to help him out. Stamboli would be more than happy to step in and replace Page - 'after all, he's already replaced him before.' Shane, without many options before him, reluctantly gave Johnny the Bull Page's spot in BattleBowl. Kimberly and Stamboli celebrate like he just won the title and cap it off with a big kiss. (78%) ----- BattleBowl Tag Match Tommy Dreamer & Terry Funk vs. Mike Awesome & Johnny 'The Bull' Stamboli (w/Kimberly Page) All four of these men were all still alive in the Extreme Championship tournament as well...Dreamer and Awesome especially were interested at getting at one-another's throats...while Funk still had some issues to resolve with Stamboli. As a result, this tag match turned into an all out brawl...with all four men going at it at the same time. The referee would eventually get things back under control with just two legal men in the ring at one time. Dreamer and Stamboli paired off in the ring, with Dreamer showing some fire and getting the early advantage. Funk wanted to get some offense in on Stamboli, so Dreamer brought him in and Funk worked over the Bull. Some assistance from Awesome helped Stamboli fight back and he laid out Funk with a swinging neckbreaker. Stamboli brought in Awesome who began to dominate the veteran Funk. Funk was unable to make it to Dreamer for the fresh tag as Awesome continued to overpower him...but in pinfall attempt was thwarted by Dreamer. Stamboli and Awesome took turns on Funk, until Funk took Stamboli to the mat with a high backbody drop. Funk finally made it to Dreamer for the hot tag. Dreamer came in and took Stamboli to the mat a few times before Mike Awesome got involved. Dreamer managed to fight off Awesome's attack and sent him over the top rope to the floor...but Dreamer turned around into a spinebuster from Stamboli! Stamboli used this to his advantage and worked over Dreamer until he hit him with the Fuh-get-a-bout-it! Stamboli made the cover...One, Two, - Awesome took out an oncoming Funk with a clothesline - Three. WINNERS - Mike Awesome & Johnny 'The Bull' Stamboli by pinfall (71/70/72) ----- Thoughts from the Champ Backstage, Michelle Gold was standing by with WCW Champion Ric Flair. She wanted to get Flair's thoughts on the evening now that we know the 10 men competing for a shot at the WCW Title. Flair sidestepped the question at first, instead focusing on the new backstage interviewer, and basically hitting on her. Gold reasked the question and Flair said ultimately it didn't matter who won tonight - he said whoever won tonight should bask in the glory of being the 'BattleBowl Champion' - because that's the only glory they're going to be able to enjoy. It will be quick and fleeting, because Monday those hopes and dreams will be crushed quickly when Flair makes them tap out to the Figure Four. If he had to pick a winner, he liked Mark Jindrak's chances. (100%) ----- Main Event - BattleBowl Battle Royal Entrants: Billy Kidman, Andrew Martin, Shane Helms, Hugh Morrus, Lance Storm, Mark Jindrak, Crowbar, Sean O'Haire, Mike Awesome & Johnny 'The Bull' Stamboli All ten men made their way down to the ring and from the opening bell - they were going right at it. As with most battle royals, it was a lot of punching and kicking and trying to get the other man over the top rope. There were some people pairing up to help each other out as Storm and Awesome were working together while the faces tried to help each other out as well, especially Shane Helms and Hugh Morrus. Although Sean O'Haire was more interested in just attacking anyone who came within his general area. Crowbar would be the first eliminated, and he would be eliminated by his partner from earlier in the evening, as O'Haire literally tossed him out of the ring by his hair! Crowbar is eliminated (by Sean O'Haire). Mark Jindrak had targeted Kidman in one corner, while Storm and Awesome were doing a number onto Shane Helms in a second corner. Hugh Morrus came over to help even the odds - but Awesome and Storm simply turned their attention to him. Meanwhile, Andrew Martin was going toe to toe with Johnny the Bull in the enter of the ring until O'Haire ran them both over with a double clothesline. Back against the ropes, the tables got turned on Jindrak as Kidman fought back against him. Kidman hit a dropkick to Jidnrak that sent him over the top rope to the floor. So much for Flair's pick. Mark Jindrak is eliminated (by Kidman). Mike Awesome took Shane Helms by the hair and tossed him over the top rope, but Helms landed on the apron. Awesome turned around and went to work on Andrew Martin while Helms climbed back to his feet. Storm met Helms with an elbow to the side of the head to try and send him off the apron, but Helms held on! Helms fought himself some space and springboarded into the ring with a crossbody to Storm! After laying out Martin with a running powerslam - Mike Awesome noticed Sean O'Haire and Stamboli battling it out near the ropes. Awesome ran in and hit a double clothesline that sent O'Haire and Stamboli both over the top rope to the floor! Sean O'Haire is eliminated (by Mike Awesome). Johnny Stamboli is eliminated (by Mike Awesome). Billy Kidman ran head on for Mike Awesome, using a recovering Andrew Martin as a springboard...but Awesome caught Kidman in mid air and dumped him over the top rope to the floor! Billy Kidman is eliminated (by Mike Awesome). With half the field eliminated it was down to Andrew Martin, Shane Helms, Hugh Morrus, Lance Storm and Mike Awesome. Awesome had looked dominant so far - taking out nearly half the field by himself. He and Storm continued to work together - sending Helms crashing to the mat and then they double teamed Hugh Morrus until he was left in a pile in the corner. Andrew Martin attacked Awesome from behind and laid out Storm with a big clothesline. Martin began trying to dump Awesome out of the ring, but Awesome countered with his strength to block. Storm recovered and used a chopblock to cut Martin down to size before he and Awesome teamed up to send Martin over the top rope to the floor. Andrew Martin is eliminated (by Awesome & Storm). Final four...Shane Helms continued to try and take the fight to Awesome and Storm, but once again they tossed him over the top rope. Helms held on for dear life and skinned the cat to get back to the apron. Callis said Helms had as many lives as a cat in this battle royal. Meanwhile Hugh Morrus found a wave of momentum that saw him fight back against the duo of Awesome and Storm. Morrus laid out Storm with a right hand and then bodyslammed Awesome to the mat. Inexplicably, Morrus began to climb the turnbuckles for the No Laughing Matter...this was a horrible mistake as Storm recovered and a dropkick to Morrus' butt sent him falling to the apron and then the floor. Hugh Morrus is eliminated (by Lance Storm). Storm and Awesome realized they were not the final two...Shane Helms had rolled back under the ropes and found himself staring into a deadly two-on-one match up. The crowd was starting to get behind Helms' underdog roll as he tried to fight off Storm and Awesome, but they quickly overpowered him. Helms definitely had the never say die attitude in this battle royal...but it looked like the numbers game was going to become too much. Mike Awesome lifted Helms up for the AwesomeBomb. Awesome ran with Helms and looked to dump him to ringside with a Running AwesomeBomb...but Helms reversed it into a rana that sent both men over the top rope....they both crashed to the apron and held on for dear life. They pulled themselves to their feet...and Lance Storm looked to take advantage. Storm bounced off the ropes and extended his feet for a dropkick that connected with each man - one boot to each. Awesome lost his balance and fell to the floor, but Helms held on! Mike Awesome is eliminated (by Lance Storm). Awesome was beside himself at ringside, he could not believe he was just eliminated by his teammate. But Storm still had some work to do to win. He connected with several shoulder thrusts to Helms to try to get him to lose his balance, but Helms would just not let go. Storm finally hooked Helms by the head and picked him up into a veritcal suplex...and looked to toss him out of the ring, but Helms reversed it into a DDT into the ring! Both men were down and struggling to their feet. Both men recovered to their feet at about the same time. Storm whipped Helms into the ropes, but Helms reversed it...only to have Storm reverse it again! Helms hit the ropes, but grabbed ahold of the top rope to prevent himself from charging back at Storm. Instead Storm charged for Helms...into a backdrop! But Storm flipped over the ropes and landed on his feet on the apron! They traded blows, and Helms was sent backwards staggering as Storm was also shaking away some cobwebs...Helms charged in, and leaped onto the ropes to springboard himself up and hit a Shining Wizard to Storm! Storm fell backwards off the apron to the floor! Shane Helms picks up the huge underdog victory! WINNER - Shane Helms by elimination (66/67/66) Scott Hudson and Don Callis hyped up Shane Helms' huge victory as Hugh Morrus climbed back into the ring to celebrate with him. At ringside, Awesome and Storm argued, but Storm shoved his way past Awesome and headed to the back alone. The show came to a close as Shane Helms climbed the turnbuckles to celebrate with the crowd. We were this close to seeing a Lance Storm title shot! Either way, good battlebowl, and I like that Booker T is going to get another shot at getting a shot at the title. <_< |

WCW Tuesday Nitro June 11, 2001 Announcers: Mike Tenay & Glenn Gilbertti Mike Tenay welcomed us in to WCW Tuesday Nitro - we are just under one week away from The Great American Bash, where Ric Flair would defend the WCW Title against Sting, Goldberg, and either Booker T or Curt Hennig. But not so fast - Ric Flair has to get through tonight first! This past Thursday on the return of WCW Thunder - Shane Helms won the BattleBowl to earn a shot tonight at the WCW Title! This could potentially be a huge night for Helms. History could be made here tonight if Helms can pull off the biggest victory of his career and win the WCW Title. VERTEBREAKER! On cue, Shane Helms made his way down to the ring with plenty of fanfare as the Vertebreaker Dance Girls danced on stage behind him. Helms entered the ring and he listed his fist up in the air showing off his new BattleBowl ring that he received for winning the BattleBowl. Helms took the microphone as the music died down and thanked the fans for the reception. Helms said he had been looking forward to this day since he was a little boy when he watched his heroes like Hulk Hogan win the World Title. He could see lots of kids in the audience tonight who are probably just like him. The only problem is - the kids don't have a champion they can look up. Right now, Ric Flair is no role model..he is no hero. What WCW needs is a hero. Someone to save them from Flair's tyranny. He said tonight could be the night that molds generations to come. Tonight, he hoped to win the title from Flair and give the kids in the audience a reason to dream. A reason to believe that ANYTHING can happen. If he could make it this far - anyone can. Tonight, the world would know that dreams truly do come true. The infamous music of the WCW World Champion Ric Flair played as Helms finished his speech. Flair made his way down to the ring dressed in a sleek suit with the WCW title around his shoulder. Flair stepped into the ring and took a microphone of his own. He mocked Helms speech, wiping away a fake tear from his eye and commenting on how motivating that truly was. Flair warned Helms of the road he was heading down. He said it was all well and good that he wants to be a hero the fans can look up and a reason to believe in achieving your dreams...but what happens WHEN he doesn't win. What will that show the little kids in the crowd? Flair said that it will show the kids the TRUTH. The fact of the matter is, it doesn't matter what your dreams are - because the world has a way of CRUSHING you dreams. Tonight, Flair will provide a lesson in realism. Tonight, as it is with most dreamers in history - Helms will not just lose, but he will be DESTROYED. Flair said he had thought about taking it easy on the kid - maybe let him get some punches in to make him feel good about himself...but that's gone out the window now. Flair wants to make a statement to the world about who he is and the kind of champion he will go down in history as. Tonight will not be the night any dreams come true. Flair held the title close to Helms' face - advising him this was as close as he would EVER get to the WCW Title, and that he should just be happy to have the Cruiserweight Title. Flair left Helms alone in the ring. Helms shook his head and promised that tonight he would have one title for each hand when he lifted his arms up in victory. (81%) ----- Extreme Championship Tournament Johnny 'The Bull' Stamboli (w/Kimberly Page) vs. Tommy Dreamer Johnny Stamboli and Dreamer went right at each other from the opening bell, trading offense back and forth. Chairs and singapore canes were the main weapons of choice for both men. Kimberly even got in on the match when the match headed to ringside. She clawed Dreamer's back to slow him down when it appeared he was taking firm control of the match. Dreamer turned to confront Kimberly, but Stamboli recovered and cracked a chair across Dreamer's back. Back in the ring, Stamboli was looking impressive as he controlled Dreamer in the ring as he continued to incorporate the chair into his offense. Stamboli looked to be on his way to victory as he headed to the top rope armed with the chair to execute what Mike Tenay said had been dubbed 'The Sicilian Facebuster' - but as he got to the top rope, Diamond Dallas Page jumped over the ring barrier from the crowd. He climbed the apron and shoved Stamboli off the top rope to the mat! DDP climbed into the ring and waited as Stamboli pulled himself up....DIAMOND CUTTER! Page popped back to his feet, threw up the Diamond Cutter sign and BANG! DDP left the ring through the crowd as Dreamer began to come to. Stamboli began to recover but walked right into Dreamer for a Dreamer Driver for the win! WINNER - Tommy Dreamer by pinfall via interference (73/69/77) After the commercial break, it was announced by Mike Tenay that DDP vs. Johnny Stamboli had been signed for The Great American Bash! ----- United States Title Match Shane Douglas (c) vs. Konnan Before the match got underway, we can a flashback to Thunder where Konnan and Shane Douglas were paired up in the lethal lottery for BattleBowl. The match didn't quite go the way either man wanted, as their communication problems ultimately led to their defeat by Hugh Morrus and Shane Helms. That's what led to this match being made, as neither man was too happy about each other's 'efforts' in the match. The match itself was nothing to write home about, as Konnan came out of the gate on fire and was looking impressive against the US Champ, until Douglas snuck in a low blow to Konnan to slow his challenger down. Douglas began to wear down Konnan and picked up a few nearfalls...but Konnan wasn't about to give up his title shot without a fight. He fought back and took out Douglas with a rolling clothesline. Konnan's offensive barrage seemed to rattle Douglas, as after being taken down by a springboard armdrag - Douglas rolled out of the ring and grabbed his US Title infrustration. Douglas began to head up the ramp, apparently satisfied with losing by countout...but Hugh Morrus was waiting for him at the top of the ramp! Douglas back pedaled his way back to ringside where Konnan was waiting for him and threw him and the US Title back into the ring. Konnan started to climb back in...but as he stepped into the ring, Douglas leveled him with a shot to the head with the title belt! Charles Robinson immediately called for the bell. WINNER - Konnan by disqualification (74/73/76) - The WCW US Title has gained in image. Shane Douglas took his DQ loss and left the ring before Hugh Morrus could get into the ring. Douglas headed up the aisle as Hugh Morrus took the microphone. Morrus said that Douglas couldn't keep running from challenger's forever. Morrus said on Thunder he pinned Douglas, and felt like he should have a shot at the US Title...he wanted to challenge Douglas to a match at The Great American Bash.. However, Konnan had recovered and he took the microphone from Hugh Morrus. Konnan said he didn't get his fair shot...he had Douglas right where he wanted him and he cheated his way out of the match. Konnan said he deserved another shot. Douglas, enjoying watching them both argue, got a microphone on the stage and said that if he has to defend his title at Great American Bash...that he has no problem taking on either one of them. But they'll have to work it out amongst themselves. So on Thunder, he suggested that they fight each other for a title shot. Morrus and Konnan seemed to have no problem with that idea. Konnan and Morrus shook hands in the ring as Douglas gave an all-knowing smirk from the stage as he rubbed his chin. (74%) ----- A Sitdown with Goldberg Mike Tenay welcomed us back and said in his continuing efforts to have a sitdown with each of the contestants in the Great American Bash's Main Event...Mike Tenay actually had the chance to sit down across from Goldberg...and try to get him to come clean about what made him join forces with Ric Flair. The pre-taped interview began, taking place in the same empty studio the interview with Sting took place. Mike Tenay welcomed Goldberg, but seemed very hesitant to talk as Goldberg just stared at him with intensity. Tenay said the whole world wanted to know why Goldberg would turn on the fans to join up with Ric Flair. Goldberg said he didn't turn on the fans. He said the fans turned on him. He said all the time he was gone, no one even cared about how he was recovering. No one was chanting for him to make his triumphant return. So when he was ready to return, he didn't feel it was necissary to do what the fans want. He spent all his time since he came to WCW catering to the wants and needs of his so-called 'fans.' But now he can do what he wants and focus all his attention on what really matters...the money, the winning, and the championships. Tenay said he mentioned the money - Tenay wanted a figure on how much Flair was paying him to be aligned with the Gentlemen's Club. Goldberg said that he doesn't need to worry about that...but just now, the services of Goldberg aren't cheap. In regards to the Great American Bash - Tenay wanted to know how he was going to approach the match. Would he be there to simply make sure Flair walks out as champion? Goldberg scoffed at the idea, claiming Flair may be the dirtiest player in the game, but he takes pride in winning. Flair wouldn't want to be associated with Goldberg if Goldberg didn't put emphasis number one on winning. So he's going out there Sunday with every purpose of winning the WCW Title. The way they look at it is that at least it will stay in the hands of the Gentlemen's Club where it belongs. Tenay had more questions for Goldberg, but Goldberg said he had given Tenay enough time. He ripped off the microphone attached to his collar and walked off the set. (81%) ----- Rey Mysterio (w/Billy Kidman & Torrie Wilson) vs. Shawn Stasiak (w/Mark Jindrak & Stacy Keibler) In another singles match preview of what's to come on Sunday - one half of the tag champions Rey Mysterio took on one half of the challengers, Shawn Stasiak. Rey's high octane offense got him the advantage in the early-goings - but some distration from Keibler and Jindrak allowed Stasiak to take control and ground the high-flyer. Jindrak kept sticking his nose into the match, which eventually would cause Kidman to say he had had enough. Kidman ran the apron and leaped onto Jindrak, taking him to the mat with a head scissors takedown. Stasiak watched on from the ring and yelled out to Kidman...but Stasiak turned around and was met by a flying Rey who took Stasiak to the mat with his own head scissors. Rey stepped out onto the apron as Stasiak stumbled to his feet..Rey springboarded into the ring into a facebuster to Stasiak! Rey was suddenly in control and finished Stasiak off with a springboard hurricanrana into a cradlepin for the three count victory! WINNER - Rey Mysterio by pinfall (74/73/75) Post match - the tag champions celebrated in the ring with Torrie while Stacy Keibler regrouped her men up the aisle. ----- Extreme Championship Tournament Sean O'Haire vs. Crowbar Another flashback to Thunder showed us Crowbar and O'Haire working surprisingly well together as a team in the BattleBowl, until the Battle Royale when O'Haire tossed Crowbar over the top rope to eliminate him. Crowbar had his chance at revenge, hoping to knock O'Haire out of the Extreme Championship Tournament. However, O'Haire was looking dominant as he pretty much controled the match. Crowbar did fight back, but as Crowbar cracked a chair across O'Haire's back - O'Haire completely no sold it and his eyes grew wide as he seemed to snap. O'Haire knocked the chair back into Crowbar's head and then tossed him by his hair out of the ring. O'Haire beat Crowbar up the ramp and sent Crowbar stumbling backwards onto the stage. Crowbar fell backwards into the curtains, where O'Haire followed him. The two disappeared behind the curtains briefly before O'haire was suddenly sent backwards from the curtains, staggering. Crowbar emerged armed with a ladder! Crowbar wielded the ladder and cracked it across O'haire shoulder. O'Haire fell to the ramp and roll back down to ringside. Crowbar left the ladder on the stage and followed O'Haire down the ramp. The two began to brawl along the floor next to the ramp, fighting their way next to the stage. Crowbar tried to slam O'haire head first into a table set up along the stage, but O'Haire blocked it and sent Crowbar head first into the table. O'haire picked up Crowbar and hit him with a rolling fireman's carry slam! O'Haire picked Crowbar back up and rolled him onto the table. O'Haire looked up to the top of the stage and a sadistic smirk crossed his face as he walked back to the ramp and headed up to the stage. Mike Tenay was afraid of what O'Haire might be thinking - as O'Haire picked up the ladder and walked over to the edge of the stage where Crowbar was laid out on a table below. O'Haire began to climb the ladder....referee Nick Patrick was warning O'Haire to not do it, but O'Haire wasn't listening to any sort of reason....off the top of the ladder, O'Haire flew off with a SEANTON BOMB through Crowbar and the table! Both men laid on the floor in the shards of wood....Patrick called for the paramedics, calling for a stop to the match as neither man were going to be able to continue. WINNER - No Contest (74/68/84) Paramedics loaded up both men to stretchers during the break. Mike Tenay wondered what this would mean for the Extreme Championship Tournament. ----- Banned from Ringside Backstage, Scott Hudson was standing by with WCW President Shane McMahon. McMahon was thrilled about tonight's main event and was looking forward to seeing what Shane Helms could do in the ring against Flair. That being said, in the interest of fairness...McMahon has added a rule to tonight's Main Event. If ANYONE from the Gentlemen's Club as much as sets foot anywhere near the ring...not only will the match be awarded to Helms, but so will the title! The fans popped for this announcement as Mike Tenay also expressed his approval of McMahon's decision to ban the Gentlemen's Club from the ring. Finally, Tenay said, we'll get a decisive title match and give Helms a fair shot at the WCW Title. (86%) ----- The Wall (w/Mike Sanders) vs. Norman Smiley Having recently aquired the services of The Wall, Mike Sanders sent his monster down to the ring to make a statement. Not even Norman Smiley's Big Wiggle could save him in this match. The Wall didn't waste his time with Smiley's antics...he made short work of Smiley and finished him off with the Chokeslam for an easy victory. WINNER - The Wall by pinfall (63/61/66) ----- Good Luck Backstage, Shane Helms was going through his final preparation for the WCW Title match. Before he could leave the locker room to head to the ring, Booker T and Sting entered the locker room. They wanted to let him know they were going to be rooting for him tonight, assuring him he would be a much better champion than Ric Flair. Sting told Helms to never give up on his dream, no matter what happens tonight. People used to think he wouldn't amount to anything when he entered this business, but he's been to the highest of heights and he can tell Shane Helms will be there as well. They gave him a pat on the shoulder and sent him on his way. (81%) ----- Main Event - WCW Title Match Ric Flair (c) vs. Shane Helms As announced earlier, the Gentlemen's Club is banned from ringside...and if they do interfere - Ric Flair will forfeit the title to Shane Helms. With that ace up his sleeve along with the peptalk from Booker T and Sting, Helms could have that much more confidence taking on the 17-time World Champion. Right from the get go, Helms showed he was in it to win it as he went toe-to-toe with Flair, matching his knife edge chops with some chops of his own. Flair was caught off guard by Helms' fire and was sent to the mat by a high dropkick from Helms. Helms kept up the attack, using his speed to keep Flair on his toes. However, a springboard moonsault attempt saw Flair get his knees up - driving his knees into Helms' midsection. This slowed Helms down enough for Flair to take command of the match. Flair worked Helms over into the corner and lit his chest up with several knife edge chops before snapmaring Helms to the mat and delivering a stiff kick to Helms' back. As Flair continued to control the match, he began to become overconfident - strutting and WOOing between attacks. Flair would finally attempt a couple pinfalls but Helms kicked out of both at 2.5. Flair began working over Helms' leg to set him up for the Figure Four. Flair almost got himself disqualified by wrapping Helms' leg around the bottom rope and pulling on it until referee Nick Patrick forced him off. Flair, growing ever more confident, climbed to the top rope himself to show Helms he can take to the air...only it didn't work out well for Flair - Helms got back to his feet and springboarded off the ropes to deliver a kick to the side of Flair's head that sent Flair to the mat! Helms climbed to the top turnbuckle and came off with a diving splash. Helms hooked a leg - One, Two, Th...kickout by Flair! Helms grabbed Flair and started to pull him up, but Flair reached up and scored a thumb to Helms' eye. This slowed Helms back down and Flair lit him up with a few more chops before sending Helms into the ropes. Flair went for a backdrop, but Helms leapfroged over Flair. Flair turned around...THE SUGARSMACK! Helms made the cover - One, Two, Thre.....NO! Flair just barely got his shoulder up to keep his title from slipping away. Helms thought for sure he had Flair put away on that one, but he started to pull the champ back up to his feet...but Flair fought back with some right and left jabs to Helms' midsection. Helms was doubled over and Flair took him to the mat with a swinging neckbreaker. With Helms down, Flair bounced off the ropes and hit a running kneedrop to Helms! Flair was about ready to put an end to Helms, pulling him to the center of the ring where he dropped his knee repeatedly into Helms' leg before locking in the Figure Four leglock! Nick Patrick checked in to see if Helms was ready to submit, but Helms refused. The crowd came alive trying to get Helms the momentum needed to escape the hold. Helms used all the energy he had left in the tank to fight valiantly and roll the hold over! Flair quickly crawled his way to the ropes and broke the hold. Helms slowly hobbled back to his feet...Flair met him with a pair of chops. Helms was staggering as Flair bounced off the ropes...he went for a clothesline, but Helms ducked. Helms pulled Flair back by his head and hit the NIGHTMARE ON HELMS STREET!! But Helms didn't have enough energy to make the immediate cover - instead both men were on the mat as Nick Patrick began to count...at about seven, Helms crawled over and made the cover to Flair. One, Two, Thre....KICKOUT by Flair! Just too much time to make the cover for Helms and the match continued. Helms slowly pulled himself up, not giving in despite Flair kicking out of the Nightmare on Helms Street. Helms could feel victory still, and he was going to finish Flair off the right way...with the Vertebreaker! As he started to set Flair up for the Vertebreaker, Glenn Gilbertti feared for Flair's life as he didn't think Flair's old body would be able to withstand such a devistating move. But as Helms was turning Flair over to lift him up...Flair fought his way free and reversed it into a backslide...One, Two, Three! Out of nowhere Flair escaped with the victory! WINNER - Ric Flair by pinfall (81/83/79) - The WCW World title has gained in image. Flair immediately rolled out of the ring and grabbed the WCW Title. He headed back up the aisle, satisfied with walking away the victor. Meanwhile, back in the ring, Shane Helms was beside himself at how quickly the match slipped away from him. The show came to an end with a closeup of Helms' disappointed face. OVERALL - 77% |

WCW Thursday Thunder June 14, 2001 Announcers: Scott Hudson & Don Callis Welcome to Thursday Thunder on WB - Scott Hudson welcomed us in and introduced himself along with Don Callis to his left. Tenay announced that tonight's main event would see Booker T teaming up with Sting to take on Goldberg and Curt Hennig of the Gentlemen's Club! Tenay said it was all leading up to THIS Sunday's big event - The Great American Bash where Ric Flair would defend his title against Sting, Goldberg, and either Hennig or Booker T. A Stacked Deck Sting kicked off the show by making his way down to the ring to a nice ovation from the crowd. Sting took the microphone and began running down how the match at the Bash was stacking up. So far - it was him against Ric Flair and Goldberg. He said so far it's two on one in favor of the bad guys...but HE LIKES THOSE ODDS. Sting explained he's used to going up against numbers and is fully prepared to do just that at the Great American Bash. But the wildcard thrown in there is the last qualifying match between Booker T and Curt Hennig. Potentially, Sting could be in the ring alone against three members of the Gentlemen's Club...now if ever there would be a stacked deck...that would be it. But once again, Sting is fully prepared to go into a three on one and walk out the WCW Champion. Out came Booker T to join Sting in the ring. Booker T said they both have had their problems with the Gentlemen's Club and he was looking forward to teaming with Sting tonight to take them on...but he just wanted to let Sting know that there's no way in HELL it was going to be a three-on-one main event at the Great American Bash. Because he has been screwed out of every title match and screwed out of every opportunity to get another title match...for him to make it to the title match at the Bash will take a force of God because he won't quit. He'll literally have to be carted out of the ring on the stretcher to not get into the main event. Sting said he had no problem with that, and he hoped Booker T could live up to that - because he definitely deserves another opportunity. But Sting told Booker T that while he has all the respect in the world for him - if he does make it to the title match - all bets are off...every man for himself. Booker T said he would't have it any other way. The two shook hands to a warm reaction from the crowd. (85%) ----- WCW Extreme Championship Tournament Terry Funk vs. Lance Storm In the final match of the quarterfinals of the Extreme Championship Tournament - Lance Storm took on the legend of extreme - Terry Funk. A replay of what happened on Nitro showed the huge Seanton Bomb off the Ladder to below the stage where Crowbar and a table were waiting. Hudson said he hadn't heard any updates about the condition of either man or what the plan is for the remainder of the Extreme Championship tournament - but the show must go on and Storm and Funk did just that. Storm came close to winning the BattleBowl last week, but this week he had to concentrate on moving on in the tournament - he did just that, concentrating on keeping the legend Funk grounded in the ring and cutting him off from any attempts at getting weapons involved. Storm succeeded for the majority of the match, but Funk began to fight back and dropped Storm with a drop toe hold that send Storm crashing head first into the middle turnbuckle. Funk rolled to ringside and returned with a chair and began working over Storm. Just as Funk looked to be getting the best of Storm, Mike Awesome came down to the ring...Awesome climbed into the ring as Funk was lifting the chair above his head. Awesome snatched the chair from Funk and cracked it across Funk's skull to lay him out. Awesome picked up Funk...AWESOME BOMB! Storm crawled over and made the cover - One, Two, Three! WINNER - Lance Storm by pinfall via interference (75/73/78) After the match, Storm got to his feet and he joined in on a beatdown of Terry Funk...that is until Tommy Dreamer ran down to the ring armed with a singapore cane. Dreamer swung at Storm, but Storm ducked and Awesome got hit with the cane! Storm rolled out of the ring to avoid any further attack while Dreamer kept wailing away at Awesome with the cane. Awesome fell out of the ring to ringside as Dreamer stood victorious in the ring. Dreamer climbed the turnbuckle and threw the cane up in the air to a pop from the crowd. At ringside, Storm checked on Awesome, only to have Awesome shove Storm into the ring barrier - Awesome, clearly upset about how Storm ditched him in the ring, voiced his frustration with his partner. Shane McMahon walked out onto stage with a microphone. He wanted everyone to calm down for a second because he had an announcement to make concerning the Extreme Championship Tournament. In case you missed it on Tuesday, Sean O'Haire basically took himself and Crowbar out of contention - neither are in any condition to wrestle at all, much less in Extreme competition. So, with just three men left in the tournament - I've decided to take you three - Tommy Dreamer, Lance Storm, and Mike Awesome - and make a Triple Threat match at The Great American Bash for the Extreme Championship! Dreamer nodded in approval as Awesome and Storm continued to argue at ringside. (88%) ----- US Championship Contendership Match Hugh Morrus vs. Konnan The match started out innocently enough, with a lock up as both men struggled to take the advantage. Morrus began to overpower Konnan to take control of the match. As the match continued, Shane Douglas walked out onto the stage to 'scout' his competition. Konnan fought back against Morrus, taking him out with a rolling lariat followed by a sitdown facebuster. Konnan made the cover, but only picked up a two count. Douglas began to inch his way down to the ring, eventually catching Konnan's attention. Konnan leaned over the ropes and voiced his feelings over Douglas being at ringside, but when he turned around he walked into a hard right hand from Morrus. Morrus took control and laid out Konnan with a sidewalk slam. Morrus climbed the top turnbuckle, and motioned to Douglas that this would be his fate on Sunday - Morrus came off the top with the No Laughing Matter to get the three count victory. WINNER - Hugh Morrus by pinfall (69/67/72) After the match, Douglas watched from the bottom of the ramp, rubbing his chin while Hugh Morrus had his arm raised in victory. But an upset Konnan grabbed Hugh Morrus from behind and threw him to the mat. Konnan climbed ontop of Morrus and began repeatedly punching him with rights hands as referee Mark Johnson tried to pull Konnan off of Morrus. The crowd began to boo Konnan as he showed his poor sportsmanship. Douglas smiled watching the scene unfold before him in the ring. The show headed to break as Mark Johnson and other WCW officials finally pulled Konnan off of Morrus. ----- A Sitdown with Ric Flair In the final pre-taped interview done by Mike Tenay to promote the Great American Bash main event, Tenay sat down with the WCW Champion himself, Ric Flair. Tenay kicked off the interview by asking Flair about his career up to this point. Flair promoted himself as an all-time great...easily hall of fame and will be remembered as a legend in this industry. He said his 17 World Championships speak for themselves - and he is not done yet. Speaking of which, Tenay transitioned that into his next question regarding Flair's future. How much longer did Flair see himself staying as an active competitor in the sport? Flair said as long as he was still champion, he wouldn't retire. As long as he was still on top, he wouldn't retire. He says age is nothing but a number and he plans on wrestling until he physically can't anymore. Tenay asked Flair if his heart was still in what he does in the ring - bringing up his interview with sting. Flair trashed Sting's idea of wrestling for the money...everybody in this business has a price, his friend Ted DiBiase taught him that. Sting can sit here in this chair all day long and say it's not about the money, but that's a bunch of BS. Everything they do somehow ties back to money. Everyone has a certain lifestyle they want to live, and they need that money to do it. Flair brought up his limosine riding, jet flyin' life style and said it takes a pretty penty to keep up with the lifestyle he lives. So he's not about to give up that lifestyle to walk away just because he wants to 'go out on top.' Tenay transitioned in to the title match this Sunday - Tenay said that potentially three members of The Gentlemen's Club could be in the ring with Sting all by himself. Flair smiled and said he liked their chances. He said any ideas that Goldberg and Hennig would just be there to insure Flair walked out as champion was an insult. He said we are all winners in the Gentlemen's Club, and he expects Goldberg and Hennig to compete because if they don't desire to be a champion, they might as well get out of the club now. But no matter what the odds are this Sunday - you can bank on a member of the Gentlemen's Club walking out of the arena Sunday night as champion. (96%) ----- 500,000 Reasons To Win Stacy Keibler made her way down to the ring all by herself, but she was carrying a Halliburton briefcase. She climbed into the ring and took the microphone. She was out here tonight because Ric Flair had sent her to make a challenge to any cruiserweights...not just the ones in the locker room, but ANY cruiserweight listening to her right now. After Shane Helms tried to humiliate Ric Flair on Nitro this week, he wanted to do the same thing to him. Flair wants the Cruiserweight Title off of Shane Helms, and has an offer for anyone who can do just that. To the person who successfully defeats Shane Helms to win the Cruiserweight Title...they will receive this briefcase...which contains $500,000! And the challenge begins tonight! And if someone doesn't get the job done tonight - it will continue at The Great American Bash...and it will continue until someone is successful. And the challenge begins..RIGHT NOW! (75%) ----- WCW Cruiserweight Title Match Shane Helms (c) vs. Kaz Hayashi Shane Helms made his way out first, and shook his head at Keibler as he entered the ring. Keibler gave a sly smirk before climbing out to ringside where she would stay to watch the match. Kaz Hayashi came out to answer the call. Callis and Hudson spent most of the match talking about the $500,000 bounty that Flair has put on Shane Helms' head to get the Cruiserweight tile off of him. Helms must have really done a number on Flair's pysche for him to go to such lengths to have Helms taste defeat. The match itself was quite entertaining - very fast paced as the two went back and forth. The two have experience with each other in the ring from the 3 Count/Jung Dragon feud and they continued to show their excellent chemisty in the ring. While Hayashi got in some offense, he never appeared to be a real threat to take the title off of Helms. Helms took control and wrapped up the victory with the Nightmare on Helms Street for the three count. WINNER - Shane Helms by pinfall (75/55/95) - The WCW Cruiserweight title has gained in image. After the match, Helms celebrated with the Cruiserweight Title, rubbing it in Keibler's face as he posed in victory. Keibler simply picked up the briefcase and left ringside. ----- A Filthy Promo Backstage, Michelle Gold was standing by with WCW Tag Team Champions - The Filthy Animals. She wanted to get their thoughts as they approach the title match at Great American Bash against Stasiak and Jindrak of the Gentlemen's Club. Kidman said that no one out there wants to see those two punks as any kind of champion, and they were certainly going to do anything in their power to make sure that doesn't happen. Rey said that he knows how the Gentlemen's Club rolls and he knows that they'll be someone like Stacy Keibler there to try and make sure they win...but they have their only little sexy number at ringside in Torrie Wilson and she will be sure to not let her get involved. And at the end of the day, the Filthy Animals will STILL be the Tag Team Champions! (71%) ----- Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Andrew Martin Mostly filler match here as these two come to the ring to allow people to take a stretch break before the main event. The two slowly plodded their way through a slugfest...halfway through the match Mike Sanders and The Wall walked out from the back to watch as Andrew Martin began to take control of Bigelow. After Martin laid out Bigelow with the Big Boot, Martin noticed the duo and pointed to them before hitting Bigelow with the Pumphandle Slam. Martin picked up the three count victory. WINNER - Andrew Martin by pinfall (69/65/74) Postmatch, Martin was asking for The Wall to come down to the ring and face him like a man. The Wall started to walk down the ramp, but Mike Sanders stopped him. He said 'not today' to The Wall before leading him back behind the curtains. Martin smiled and shook his head before climbing the turnbuckle to celebrate his victory. ----- Irreplaceable In the back, Michelle Gold had caught up with Diamond Dallas Page who was anxious to get his hands on Johnny 'The Bull' Stamboli this Sunday at The Great American Bash. Page explained that the Kimberly Page that we are seeing now is not the same sweet, innocent Kim that he married. He doesn't know what changed in her...but the sight of watching his wife kissing another man makes him so furious...he has a hard time controling the anger. He said it was one thing to go out and find another man, but to bring it here and air it all on national television? As for Stamboli, he clearly has no respect for this business...there's an honor code that they all abide to in the locker room...and believe it or not, stealing another man's girl...let alone WIFE, is a strict violation. He knows Stamboli is still relatively new to the business, so maybe he should cut him some slack...NAH...he'll just beat some sense into him on Sunday. As for Kim, after he's done with her new boytoy this Sunday, she will see just how irreplaceable he truly is. (77%) ----- Main Event Sting & Booker T vs. Goldberg & Curt Hennig Hennig and Sting started the match out against one another, with it going back and forth briefly until Sting started to take control. Sting would get in some offense to Hennig before realizing Booker T was just itching to get his hands on Hennig. Sting tagged in Booker. Booker didn't waste any time unloading the offense to Hennig. Booker made a couple pin attempts, but Goldberg made the save. Booker tagged back out to Sting, keeping the fresh man in...however, Goldberg would sneak in a punch from the apron to the back of Sting's head to slow Sting down and allow Hennig to fight back. Hennig hit a back suplex to Sting before tagging in Goldberg. Goldberg began to slowly take control of Sting. Goldberg's offense appeared sluggish as he lazily went on the attack. After wearing Sting down some, Goldberg tagged Hennig back in. Hennig and Goldberg worked over Sting as the fans began to come alive to try and get Sting to make the hot tag to Booker. Hennig sent Sting into the ropes, but Sting ducked a clothesline and flew in with a jumping clothesline of his own. This opened the door and Sting took full advantage and made the tag to Booker. Booker came in and Goldberg rushed in to try to help Hennig, but Booker took Goldberg down with a bicycle kick. Goldberg rolled out of the ring as Booker T began working over Hennig...a boot to the midsection was followed up by the Scissors Kick from Booker T! Booker T used the spinaroonie to get to his feet which drew a pop from the crowd. Hennig struggled to the corner to pull himself up as Booker tagged Sting back in. Sting charged in...STINGER SPLASH to Hennig. Hennig stumbled out of the corner and fell face first to the mat. Sting grabbed Hennig and locked him into the Scorpion Deathlock! But as Nick Patrick checked in on Hennig to see if he was going to submit, Goldberg entered the ring with a chair and smacked it right across Sting's back, drawing the disqualification. WINNERS - Sting & Booker T by disqualification (79/86/65) Booker T tried to help, but Golberg drove the chair into his midsection and then slammed the chair into Booker T's head. Hennig got to his feet and began to join in the attack. Hennig concentrated on Booker T while Goldberg concentrated on Sting. Goldberg sent Sting into the ropes...SPEAR! Hennig hit Booker T with the HennigPlex while Goldberg dropped Sting with the Jackhammer! The show came to a close with Hennig and Goldberg standing tall over Booker T and Sting. Hudson dropped in one last hype for The Great American Bash as the show came to a close. OVERALL - 74% |

Great American Bash Freeview Preshow June 17, 2001 Announcers: Scott Hudson & Don Callis 30 minutes prior to the Great American Bash start-time - Scott Hudson and Don Callis hosted a pre-show to hype up the event. The focus was heavy on the WCW Title match and the men competing for Ric FLair's title including Sting, Goldberg, Booker T, and Curt Hennig. Video recaps of the weeks leading up to the event were used to promote the big main event. The other matches were also recapped including DDP/Johnny Stamboli, Filthy Animals/Jindrak&Stasiak, and the finals of the Extreme Championship Tournament. They also recapped BattleBowl and Shane Helms' title shot along with the bounty put on the Cruiserweight Title by Ric Flair. FreeView Match The Wall (w/Mike Sanders) vs. The Cat Don Callis immediately began making jokes about cats climbing and clawing walls...The Cat wanted somebody to call his momma because he was about to whoop a tall joker. Mike Sanders brought the Wall down to the ring where The Cat went right for him, using his fancy footwork to try and wear down the Wall - but The Wall was unphased by the Cat's attempt of an offense. The Wall grabbed Cat by the throat and lifted him up into a two handed chokelift before dropping him to the mat. The Cat stumbled back up to his feet, only to be grabbed by the arm and sent into a short arm clothesline from the Wall. Wall showed off his dominance, dropping the Cat with a military press slam before finishing him off with the Chokeslam for the easy victory. WINNER - The Wall by pinfall (65/66/64) After the match it was on final run-down of the card before Scott Hudson and Don Callis signed off, handing the reigns over to Mike Tenay and Glenn Gilbertti. ----- WCW's Great American Bash June 17, 2001 Announcers: Mike Tenay & Glenn Gilbertti After a video intro hyping up the Four-Way Title match, the pyro went off around the GAB stage as the fans stood on their feet cheering. Mike Tenay welcomed us to the Great American Bash and thanked us for joining them tonight for what should be an amazing night of action. All championships were on the line tonight - including the WCW Title which will be defended by Ric Flair against three other competitors. It's anyone's game tonight, but the question still remained - who would be the third challenger? Would it be Booker T or Curt Hennig? The world probably is hoping for Booker T - the chances of Ric Flair walking out of the belt as champion would be a lot higher with Goldberg and Hennig in the ring with him against Sting. Introducing the Challenger Stacy Keibler made her way down to the ring with the steel briefcase in hand. She entered the ring amidst boos from the crowd. She reminded us of the $500,000 reward placed on taking the WCW Cruiserweight Title off of Shane Helms and how it is open to ANY cruiserweight who feels like they want to answer the call. The first challenger did not fair so well, but she has a feeling tonight's challenger would prove to be a more competent foe. After all, he is 3-time Cruiserweight champion and also a former tag team champion. Tonight's challenger for Shane Helms was... Juventud Guerrera! (76%) WCW Cruiserweight Title Match Shane Helms (c) vs. Juventud Guerrera 'The Juice is back!' exclaimed Glenn Gilbertti. Juvi and Helms met up and put on an exciting match that was going to be difficult for the rest of the card to match. They set the bar high, going back and forth with high speed/high impact move - one after another. Juvi certainly seemed to be just the challenger Keibler was looking for to try and get the belt off of Helms as he certainly was taking it to the champ - picking up several close nearfalls and nearly walking away with the belt. A pumphandle sitout facebuster from Juvi to Helms picked up about as close to a three count as you can get. Juvi pounded the mat in frustration, but went back on the attack. He lifted Helms up for a crucifix powerbomb, but Helms reversed it into a cradle roll up for a two count. Juvi rolled back to his feet and Helms caught him with the SUGARSMACK out of nowhere! Helms dropped to the mat as well, struggling to get back to his feet. Helms recovered first and took control of his challenger and after lifting Juvi up into a fireman's carry and turning it into a knee to Juvi's face - Helms went for the cover, but only picked up a two count. Helms attempted to finish off Juvi with the Nightmare on Helms Street, but Juvi countered and turned it over into a Northern Light's Suplex. Juvi bridged for a two count. Juvi went back on the offensive, eventually going for the Juvi Driver - only to have Helms escape and slide down Juvi's back. From there, Helms was able to set up and excute the VERTEBREAKER to Juvi! Helms rolled over and made the cover - One, Two, Three! WINNER - Shane Helms by pinfall (82/66/99) - WCW Cruiserweight Title has gained image After the match, a disappointed Stacy Keibler packed up the briefcase and returned to the back while Shane Helms celebrated his victory. ----- WCW United States Title Match Shane Douglas (c) vs. Hugh Morrus As the match got underway, Tenay discussed how this match was decided and how it all started at the BattleBowl when Morrus was on opposing sides of Konnan and Douglas - getting the pin on the US Champion. However, a Konnan/Douglas title match ended in Konnan winning by DQ - but a Morrus victory over Konnan this past Thursday gave Morrus the title shot over Konnan, which Konnan displayed his displeasure with after the match on Morrus. The match itself here wasn't much to write home about. Douglas and Morrus spent most of the match in a slow brawl inside and outside the ring, with neither man keeping much of an advantage. Some underhanded tactics by Douglas seemed to finally give him the advantage over his challenger...however after a patented belly-to-belly suplex from Douglas - he thought he had it wrapped up only to have Morrus just barely get his shoulder up before the three count. Douglas began to grow more and more frustrated as the match went on...eventually he seemed to be going for the same strategy he did against Konnan as he went to ringside and grabbed the US Title. He slid back into the ring and acted like he was going to just lay out Morrus with the belt and take the DQ loss to keep his belt, but referee Charles Robinson stepped in and played a game of tug of war with Douglas...until Douglas let go and Robinson fell backwards, hitting his head on the turnbuckles! With Robinson trying to shake off the cobwebs, Douglas picked the US Title back up...only to have Konnan enter the ring behind him! Konnan snatched the US Title from Douglas...and laid out Douglas with the US Title! Konnan rolled out of the ring with the belt as Charles Robinson regained his composure to find Hugh Morrus stumbling to his feet and Shane Douglas out on the canvas. Hugh Morrus, not sure what just happened, took advantage by climbing to the top turnbuckle and hitting the No Laughing Matter! Morrus hooked the leg - One, Two, Three! We have a new United States Champion! WINNER - Hugh Morrus by pinfall via interference (69/70/70) After the match, Konnan attacked Morrus from behind with the US title while Morrus was having his hand raised by the referee! Morrus dropped to the mat and Konnan laid some boots to him and Shane Douglas before dropping the US title on Hugh Morrus' body. Konnan left the ring to boos from the crowd. ----- For The Last Spot in the WCW Title Match Booker T vs. Curt Hennig Mike Tenay mentioned that Booker T had been looking forward to getting his hands on Curt Hennig for a while now...it had been Hennig who had been the driving factor in keeping Booker T away from title shots. Tenay said it would be swift justice if he can defeat Hennig to actually get the title shot he had been going for since being cheated out of the title in two previous matches against Ric Flair. Gilbertti said it would be poetic though if Hennig once again was the reason for keeping Booker T out of the title picture by actually defeating him in this match. Booker T certainly had all intension to make sure he defeated Hennig to get into the main event, but Hennig certainly was going to look to pull out all the stops for himself and for his Gentlemen's Club teammates to make sure Booker T did not make it to the title match. Booker T looked as determined as ever to get past Hennig, and certainly did not mind taking out his recent frustrations on Hennig. From the get go, Booker T was all over Hennig to the point that referee Nick Patrick was having to restrain and warn Booker T about going too far with his offense and getting himself disqualified. Hennig used one of those instances where Patrick had pulled Booker aside to warn him to his advantage as he clipped Booker T's legs from behind. With the door opened, Hennig went on the attack. Hennig began working over Booker T with submissions to try and get Booker T to physicall give up his title shot...locking him in a spinning toe hold - when that didn't work he locked Booker into an Indian deathlock...but Booker T was not about to just submit and give up his shot. Hennig relented, going back on the offensive with a snap suplex followed by a neck snap. Hennig went for the pin, but only picked up a two count. Hennig didn't let up and put the boots repeatedly to Booker before going for a kneedrop, but Booker moved! Booker came to his feet with a spinaroonie to a big pop from the crowd. Booker found his second wind and was lighting Hennig up with chops. Booker T's offensive outburtst would only be momentary, as off the ropes, Hennig ducked a bicycle kick and locked Booker T into a sleeper hold to literally slow him down. Just when it looked like Booker might be fading out in the sleeper hold, the crowd's energy began to drive him back into it once again. Booker T hit a few back elbows and then scooped up Hennig and hit him with a sidewalk slam! Hennig would roll back to his feet right into a high angle spinebuster from Booker T! Booker went for the pin - One, Two, Th...kickout by Hennig! Booker T took control and looked to finish off Hennig with the Scissors kick, but the doubled over Hennig moved out of the way at the last second! Hennig hit Booker with a knee to the midsection and set him up for the HennigPlex...but Booker T blocked it...BOOK END out of almost nowhere! Booker T with the cover - One, Two, Three! WINNER - Booker T by pinfall (81/85/74) Hennig rolled out of the ring as Booker T's music played. Booker celebrated his win...until Hennig returned to the ring with a chair! Hennig cracked the chair across Booker's back! Booker dropped to a knee and Hennig cracked it across the back of Booker T's head. Hennig wrapped the chair around Booker T's ankle before climbing to the top turbuckle. Hennig came off the top rope, stomping on the chair! Booker T screamed out in pain, holding his ankle in pain. WCW officials hit the ring to keep Hennig from doing any further damage. Medics immediately began checking on the status of Booker's ankle. Booker T advanced to the WCW Title match, but would he even be able to compete? Mike Tenay hoped we could get an update on his status soon. ----- WCW Tag Team Titles Match The Filthy Animals (c) (w/Torrie Wilson) vs. Jindrak & Stasiak (w/Stacy Keibler) Stasiak and Jindrak were looking to add to the Gentlemen's Club's gold by trying to defeat Kidman and Mysterio for their belts. Mysterio and Kidman looked strong early, using their speed to keep the upperhand on Shawn Stasiak. But Stasiak eventually tagged in Jindrak and together they double teamed Mysterio until the referee forced Stasiak out of the ring. But the damage had been done and Jindrak took control of Mysterio. However, a wheelbarrow suplex attempt by Jindrak would be reversed into a bulldog from Rey. Rey used this opportunity to make the tag to Kidman. Kidman springboarded into the ring with a crossbody to Jindrak for a two count. Kidman continued on the offensive until Stacy Keibler provided a distraction...but Torrie Wilson pulled Keibler off the apron and tackled her to the ground! Referee Randy Anderson found himself distracted by the women in the catfight at ringside...trying to help some security break up the fight...this allowed Jindrak to hit a low blow to Kidman to slow him down. Rey tried to make the save for his partner, but Stasiak joined the sprawl in the ring. Stasiak KOed Rey with one punch, only to reveal he had slipped on a pair of brass knuckles. Stasiak lifted Kidman up into a bearhug as Jindrak bounced off the ropes and the two hit a dropkick/spinebuster combo to Kidman! Stasiak rolled back out of the ring as the referee turned around to see Jindrak making the cover - One, Two, Three! We have new tag team champions! WINNERS - Jindrak & Stasiak by pinfall (76/70/83) Jindrak and Stasiak immediately left the ring, grabbing the belts and helping Keibler back up the ramp. Torrie Wilson climbed into the ring to check on her men while the Gentlemen's Club duo celebrated on the stage - successfully adding to the gold Ric Flair already has in the group. ----- WCW Extreme Championship Match Lance Storm vs. Mike Awesome vs. Tommy Dreamer Before the match got underway, a highlight video recapped the tournament - highlighting the impressive Storm/Jerry Lynn match, the debut of Tommy Dreamer, and the death defying spot from Sean O'Haire that managed to take himself and Crowbar out of contention and thus setting up this three way match for the Extreme Championship. Right from the opening bell, Tommy Dreamer knew he was in for the fight of his life having to take on both Awesome and Storm who despite their recent differences, seemed to be on the same page early. And that page was...beat the tar out of Tommy Dreamer and use whatever you can find to do just that. However, their communication issues started to resurface when it came time to try to pin Dreamer...Storm looked to take advantage first and pick up the victory - but Awesome wasn't having that. He pulled Storm right off of Dreamer. Storm got to his feet and got right in Awesome's chest, poking him and telling him Awesome was suppose to do what HE said. Storm, thinking he made his point clear, turned around...only to have Awesome grab him from behind. Awesome pulled Storm into a big short arm clothesline which actually got a pop from the crowd. With both men down, Awesome climbed out of the ring and pulled a couple tables out from under the ring. He slid one into the ring and set the other one up at ringside. However, after he finished setting up the second one, Dreamer attacked him with a baseball slide. Awesome fell back into the ring barrier and Dreamer grabbed his cane and worked over Awesome with it. Dreamer noticed Storm was starting to stir in the ring, so he slid back in and took Storm out with a russian legsweep assisted by the singapore cane. A pinfall attempt from Dreamer resulted in a two count. Dreamer picked up the table in the ring and set it up, only to have Awesome re-enter the ring and attack. Awesome went for an AwesomeBomb, but after lifting Dreamer up, Storm hit a dropkick to Awesome, sending Awesome falling backwards with Dreamer landing ontop! Storm picked up Dreamer's cane and began working over both Dreamer and Awesome with it. Storm grabbed Awesome by the head, and used a chair already set up in the ring as a springboard to drop him with a tornado DDT. Storm went for the pin, but Dreamer broke it up. Dreamer and Storm went back and forth briefly while Awesome was down...Storm lifted up Dreamer and crotched him across the top ring rope before stepping out onto the apron. Storm set up Dreamer for a superplex through the table at ringside off the apron, but Dreamer fought back. Dreamer rocked Storm and lifted him up onto his shoulders, jumping off the apron with the Dreamer Driver through the table! Tommy Dreamer was slow to recover, but used the ring curtain to pull himself back up and roll into the ring...but Awesome was waiting for him. Awesome stomped Dreamer before picking him up and lifting him into a military press. Awesome dropped Dreamer right onto the chair that was set up! Awesome pulled Dreamer to his feet...AWESOMEBOMB through the table! Mike Awesome made the cover - One, Two, Three! WINNER - Mike Awesome by pinfall (77/74/81) Mike Awesome was handed the new Extreme Championship after the match. He lifted it into the air to a mixed reaction from the crowd as Storm and Dreamer were both attended to. ----- Diamond Dallas Page vs. Johnny 'The Bull' Stamboli (w/Kimberly Page) A video package highlighted Kimberly Page's return to WCW and her announcement that Johnny 'The Bull' Stamboli had replaced Page in her life. It was obvious Page couldn't wait to get his hands on Stamboli, as he literally charged the ring from the back just as his music had started playing. Page tackeld Stamboli to the mat and just started wailing away with punches. Referee Charles Robinson had to pull Page off of Stamboli as Kimberly yelled at ringside to disqualify him. Page certainly didn't seem to care about the rules of the match, as he was showing his anger in the ring as he beat Stamboli from one side of the ring to the other - choking him in the corner and choking him across the bottom rope - always getting stopped by Robinson before the DQ had to be made. Page sent the fight to ringside where he continued the beating. Kimberly tried to help her new man out, raking her estranged husband's back with her long nails. Page turned and stared at his wife and told her she shouldn't have done that. But with Page's attention on Kim - Stamboli was able to recover. Stamboli grabbed a handful of Page's long hair and threw him into the ringsteps! Stamboli took control of the match, rolling Page back into the ring and going on the offensive as Kimberly watching approvingly from ringside. Once Stamboli had Page where he wanted him, he slowed the pace down with a few restholds, locking Page into a chinlock. Robinson checked in on Page, but Page wasn't giving up. Stamboli relinquished the hold but continued on the attack. After an over-the-shoulder DDT, Stamboli seemed to smell victory as he made a very cocky pin to Page - but Page got his shoulder up at two. Stamboli went back on the offensive, taking Page out with a spinning heel kick and then dropped a legdrop down onto Page. He attempted another pin but once again it was just two. The crowd began to get behind Page and will him back into the fight. Page hit some right and left jabs to make some room on Stamboli before taking him down with a discuss clothesline. Page retook control, hitting a pumphandle backbreaker to Stamboli and dropping an elbow down across his chest. After a spinout powerbomb, DDP was ready to end the match with the Diamond Cutter. He called for the move which brought the crowd to their feet...however Kimberly slid a chain in to Stamboli! While on the mat, Stamboli wrapped the chain around his fist. When Page went to pick him up, Stamboli punched Page right between the eyes with the chain wrapped fist! Page hit the mat and Robinson called for the bell. WINNER - Diamond Dallas Page by disqualification (74/77/70) Stamboli crouched over Page and began repeatedly slamming the chained fist into Page's forehead as the crowd met him with loud boos. Kimberly brought a chair into the ring, but instructed Stamboli to do more damage to Page. He rolled Page over onto his stomach and unwrapped the chain from his fist. He began to literally WHIP the chain across Page's back! Huge welts were left on Page's back as Stamboli just kept up the torture to Page. WCW officials began to try and help Page, but Stamboli took out the first one with the chain - and that kept the other ones at bay. Stamboli lifted Page up and executed the Fuh-get-a-bout-it to Page! Finally, just for the topping on the cake...Stamboli took the chair to the top turnbuckle and came off with the Sicilian Facebuster to Page! Stamboli celebrated with Kimberly in the ring over Page's beaten and battered body. ----- MAIN EVENT - WCW Title Match Ric Flair (c) vs. Sting vs. Goldberg vs. Booker T Mike Tenay received word before the match that Booker T was still receiving medical treatment and was not in any shape to compete tonight. So it looked like it was just going to be a three-way match between Goldberg, Flair, and Sting. Which wasn't good news for Sting who right from the get go found himself in a two-on-one beating at the hands of Flair and Goldberg. Sting valiantly tried to fight off the advances of Goldberg and Flair, but soon it became too much and it became all Goldberg and Flair. Flair even stepped out to ringside to just watch as Goldberg took control of Sting. For the next portion of the match it became a one-on-one match as Goldberg used the advantage created by the two-on-one beating to dominate Sting in the ring. It was of note, however, that Goldberg did not go for anything resembling a pin as he beat Sting around the ring. The crowd began to chant for "BOOKER T" as Sting was getting wailed on by Goldberg. Amazingly, Sting began to find some strength and energy to fight his way back against Goldberg. He created some space and bounced off the ropes, hitting a clothesline to Goldberg. But Goldberg completely no-sold it. Sting bounced off the ropes again with another clothesline, but again Goldberg just stared at Sting. Sting backed up into the corner and Goldberg charged in, but Sting sidestepped Goldberg! Goldberg collided with the turnbuckles and Sting took advantage with a running bulldog! Goldberg was finally shaken, and Sting pounced on the opportunity, dropping an elbow to the back of Goldberg's head. Goldberg pulled himself up using the ring ropes and Sting sent him over the top rope with a clothesline! But as he did, Flair attacked Sting from behind with a chopblock! Sting fell over to the mat and Flair began working over his knee...however the crowd came alive as... BOOKER T hobbled his way down to the ring! The crowd was on their feet as a clearly nowhere near 100% Booker slid into the ring and met Flair with some knife edge chops. Even on a bad leg, Booker T was lighting up Flair and taking the offense to him. Booker sent Flair into the ropes and used his good leg to hit a spinning heel kick to Flair! Booker T crouched over Flair and began wailing away at the champion with vicious right hands. Booker T got to his feet and continued to attack Flair..he gave Flair a boot to the midsection and it looked like he was going to go for the Scissors Kick...but as Booker bounced off the ropes, he ran into a SPEAR from Goldberg! Goldberg was met by loud boos as he picked up Booker T and set him up for the Jackhammer....but Sting broke it up with a dropkick that sent Goldberg and Booker T to the mat! Goldberg started to get back to his feet, but Sting kept on the offensive. Sting sent himself and Goldberg over the top rope to the floor where the two would continue to brawl while Flair recovered in the ring and began to take advantage of the situation with Booker left alone in the ring. Flair immediately began to target Booker's bad leg. As Flair continued on the attack, Goldberg took firm control of Sting at ringside - sending him crashing into the ring steps. Meanwhile, Flair was looking to end the match by locking in the Figure Four to Booker! Goldberg climbed into the ring as referee Nick Patrick was checking in on Booker to see if he wanted to quit. Goldberg aided Flair's attempts by stomping on Booker's leg as well! Booker was obviously in agonizing pain, but was refusing to give up. Sting climbed up onto the apron and to the top turnbuckle...he came off the top with a flying crossbody to Goldberg! One, Two, kickout by Goldberg! Sting got to his feet and immediately ran in with a kneedrop to Flair to break up the Figure Four. Goldberg had recovered and attacked Sting from behind as Flair too joined in the attack. Sting tried to fight back, but it was no use against the duo. They wore Sting down and sent him out of the ring so they could turn their attention to Booker T. Flair stood back and just watched as Goldberg worked over Booker T. Goldberg hit Booker T with a pumphandle slam before heading over to the corner and crouching in position, just measuring Booker up for another spear. However, Sting climbed back onto the apron and swung a right hand at Goldberg. Goldberg acted like Sting was an annoying gnat and tossed Sting back into the ring with a hiptoss over the ropes to the mat. Meanwhile, Flair began to help pull Booker back to his feet....Goldberg charged in for the Spear, but Booker moved and Goldberg accidentaly hit Ric Flair with the SPEAR! Booker fell back to the mat, favoring his leg as Goldberg was too distracted by his miscue to realize Sting was coming up behind him. Sting turned Goldberg around and sent him into the corner...STINGER SPLASH! Sting whipped Goldberg into the opposite turnbuckles for a second STINGER SPLASH! Sting pulled Goldberg out of the corner...SCORPION DEATH DROP TO GOLDBERG! Sting with the cover...ONE, TWO, THRE.....Booker T pulled Sting off of Goldberg! Sting fought back against the wounded Booker T, scooping him up and bodyslamming him to the mat. Goldberg rolled out of the ring to try and regroup, but Sting was having none of that. Sting came out onto Goldberg with a slingshot plancha! Both men went crashing to the floor. Alone in the ring were Booker T and Flair, both down on the mat. Flair began to come to, slowly pulling himself to his feet. As he used the ropes to get back to his feet, suddenly behind him..Booker T used the SPINAROONIE to get back to his feet! Flair stumbled around and turned to find Booker waiting for him...BOOK END!! Booker T hooked the leg...ONE, TWO, THREE!! Defying all odds, Booker T has won back the WCW Title! WINNER - Booker T by pinfall (83/91/66) After the match, Flair was sent to ringside as Sting climbed back into the ring to congratulate Booker on the win. Sting handed Booker the title and lifted his hand in victory before leaving the ring to give him his moment. Meanwhile, at ringside - Flair and Goldberg argued over the miscommunication. But in the end, it was Booker T celebrating in the ring as the NEW WCW Champion! OVERALL - 79%

Good PPV Dubb. You seem to be serious about giving Stamboli somewhat of a push, and the Shane Helms cruiserweight storyline could be gold. I was somewhat surprised to see Booker getting the title back, but I realize at Flairs age, his title run was more to drive the storyline and to probably get Booker more over with the crowd. And thank you for bringing back War Games and I do hope you bring back World War 3. |

WCW Tuesday Nitro June 19, 2001 Announcers: Mike Tenay & Glenn Gilbertti The show opened up with a video recap of the WCW title match at The Great American Bash as Booker T first defeated Curt Hennig to earn a spot in the title match, but was then violently beaten by Hennig and it appeared he would be unable to compete in the main event - but low and behold he did make it out after the match had started...and in the end, Booker T defied the odds and pinned Ric Flair to become a 5-Time WCW Champion. 5-Time! And sure enough, the new WCW Champion Booker T kicked off the show by coming down to the ring in street gear - but did he have his newly won title around his shoulder. Booker T took the microphone and talked about how great it was to be a ...not 1 time, not 2 time, not 3 time, not 4 time, but a FIVE TIME - WCW World Champion. Now he understood why the Gentlemen's Club worked so hard to keep him from getting a title shot..because they knew THIS would happen. And here he was, on top of the world once again...and boy did it feel good. Not everyone was feeling so good about Booker's title victory. Ric Flair made his way down to the ring to boos from the crowd. Flair claimed he never should have lost the title on Sunday...he said Booker T should not have been allowed in the ring...he was NOT cleared to wrestle and thus legally, he should still be champion. He demanded to either be given a rematch or, ideally, just handed the title on the technicality. Shane McMahon had a thing or two to say about Flair's accusations. He made his way down to join the two already in the ring. McMahon said HE himself personally cleared Booker T to wrestle in the main event, so he doesn't want to hear any accusations from Flair about 'legal issues.' McMahon was HAPPY to declare Booker T the champion and there was no gray area or shadows surrounding the victory, unlike anytime Ric Flair wins. As for Flair's demanded title shot, well - Shane said that Flair definitely is in the conversation for getting a title shot - but after all he did to keep Booker T from just getting a title shot...he feels Flair should know what it's like to jump through hoops. So tonight, in the main event, there will be a match to determine the number one contender to Booker T's championship at Bash at the Beach. It will be Ric Flair taking on Sting! The winner will receive the title shot. Flair was very upset at Shane's ruling, and let him know it. But Shane was not interested in listening to Flair's protests. Shane headed to the back while Flair followed closely behind, continuing to berate his decision. Booker T shrugged and celebrated with the crowd his title victory some more. (89%) ----- Crowbar vs. Sean O'Haire Before the match got started, we got a flashback to their match last week which saw both men being carted off and unable to continue in the Extreme Championship tournament - well after a week of rehabilitation, they were ready for a rematch. This time it was under the normal rules, so no extreme action but still a very entertaining match as the two really work well together. Crowbar especially sold O'haire's offensive effectively, making O'Haire look that much better in the ring. It looked like O'Haire was on his way to victory after laying out Crowbar with a rolling fireman's carry slam - but as he went up to the top turnbuckle for the Seanton Bomb, Chuck Palumbo arrived at ringside...Palumbo jumped onto the apron and shoved O'Haire off the top rope to the mat! Referee Mark Johnson immediately called for the bell. WINNER - Sean O'Haire by disqualification via interference (76/68/84) Palumbo climbed into the ring, but O'Haire had already gotten back to his feet and boy was he not happy with what Palumbo had done. Palumbo tried to continue the attack on O'Haire, but O'haire fought back against Palumbo! A roundhouse kick sent Palumbo falling out of the ring - leaving O'Haire standing tall in the ring. ----- It's Primetime for a Title Change "Vertebreaker" hit the PA system as WCW Cruiserweight Champion Shane Helms made his way down to the ring with the Vertebreaker backup dancers dancing on the stage. Helms climbed into the ring and talked about the $500,00 bounty that Ric Flair has put on his WCW Cruiserweight Title. Helms said it was ironic how badly Flair wants to get the belt off of Helms, when Flair himself lost the WCW Title at The Great American Bash! Helms took pride in being the ONLY defending champion who walked out of the Great American Bash as champion, despite having every cruiserweight in the locker room gunning for him. Speaking of which, Stacy Keibler made her way down to the ring with the briefcase in hand. She entered the ring and told Helms he should enjoy the 'success' while it lasts - because while he may be laughing at Flair now, it will be the Gentlemen's Club who gets the last laugh. Not just on Helms, but on everyone - Sting, Booker T...EVERYONE. And tonight, she has a new challenger who is 'primed' and ready to cash in the $500,000 and become the new Cruiserweight Champion. Shane Helms' challenger tonight would be former Cruiserweight Champion..."Primetime" Elix Skipper! (80%) ----- WCW Cruiserweight Title Match Shane Helms (c) vs. "Primetime" Elix Skipper Skipper has been a bit 'MIA' since the purchase of WCW - but he was ready tonight for his chance to take the Cruiserweight championship off of Helms. Skipper did look good in the ring against the champion, unloading a wide variety of kick-oriented offense to the champion - including a vicious looking kick right to Helms' spine. The 'New School' frankensteiner off the top rope earned Skipper a very close nearfall. Helms fought back against his challenger, but an attempt of a crossbody was actually avoided by a 'Matrix' by Skipper! Skipper retook control and went for the Play of the Day, but Helms reversed it and hit Skipper with the Nightmare on Helms Street! Helms hooked the leg for the three count victory! WINNER - Shane Helms by pinfall (75/65/86) A disgusted Stacy Keibler took the briefcase and returned to the locker room while Shane Helms climbed the turnbuckles and celebrated his victory. ----- A Fighting Champion Backstage, Scott Hudson was standing by with the new WCW United States Champion - Hugh Morrus. He said that it had been almost 7 months since he last held the WCW US championship, and he was glad to be able to represent the United States as it's champion once again. He planned to make America proud as it's champion, and would take on all-comers. Enter Lance Storm - looking a little worse for wear with bandages on his head and shoulder following the Extreme Championship match at Great American Bash. Storm was looking to see if Morrus really planned on living up to that 'fighting champion' mentality. Because if he is, Storm certainly knows what it takes to beat Hugh Morrus for the title. And Storm would love to once again be the Canadian Champion. Storm then brought up how Morrus won the title in the first place - with some outside interference from Konnan. Morrus said that he was not thrilled about the way he won, but that's why he planned to defend against all-comer's - including Lance Storm. Storm was happy to hear that and planned to see Morrus in the ring...right after the break! (78%) ----- WCW United States Title Match Hugh Morrus (c) vs. Lance Storm Gilbertti acknowledged Storm's grit by agreeing to fight for another championship just a couple days after a brutal Extreme Championship match - not many people would be willing to take on such a challenge. Tenay couldn't help but agree, but said it was hard not to root for Hugh Morrus defending America against the prospect of the return of the infamous 'Canadian Heavyweight Championship.' Hugh Morrus looked strong early against Storm - using his big size and power advantage against his challenger. Hugh Morrus looked to put away Storm early by going for an early No Laughing Matter - but Storm recovered and joined Morrus on the top turnbuckle - coming off with a back superplex to Morrus that left both men down! Storm recovered first and went on the offensive picking up a few nearfalls on Morrus, including one off of a stiff superkick. But Morrus kicked out at two each time. Storm locked on the Canadian Mapleleaf to Morrus - but Morrus was able to power his way to the ropes and break the hold. Morrus began to fight back against Storm - and caught him off the ropes with a big sidewalk slam. Morrus took control, keeping Storm grounded but unable to put him away. Morrus bounced off the ropes and went for an elbowdrop to the grounded Storm, but Storm rolled out of the way! Storm fought back against Morrus with a few chops before bouncing off the ropes and hitting a leg lariat to Morrus. Storm went for the pin but only got a two count. Storm began to pull Morrus up, but Morrus hit a jawbreaker to Storm to rattle the challenger. Morrus sent Storm into the ropes and went for a backdrop, but Storm flipped over the attempt and reversed it - rolling Morrus up into the Canadian Maple Leaf! Referee Charles Robinson checked in on Morrus to see if he wanted to submit, but he was shaking his head for a definite 'no.' Morrus began to power his way to the ropes again...but Storm prevented it this time by walking back with Morrus and pulling back further on Morrus' leg and driving his knee into back of Morrus' neck - bending him back as far as possible. Morrus could no longer fight through the pain...and he tapped out! Lance Storm has won the WCW United States Championship! WINNER - Lance Storm by submission (73/72/74) - The United States Title has gained image Lance Storm grabbed his newly won United States Title and celebrated - but in a serious way but simply climbing the turnbuckle and lifting the belt in the air, while never really showing any emotion. The crowd met the new US Champion with loud boos. ----- The Bull and the Dream Kimberly Page led Johnny 'the Bull' Stamboli down to the ring to moderate heel heat. The duo climbed into the ring and Kimberly took the microphone - builindg up what Stamboli did to Diamond Dallas Page at Great American Bash. She proclaimed that she could not be any prouder of her 'man.' She said it gave her goosebumps to watch him put the beating to Page...she said that nothing was more of a turn on than watching her new man stand tall over the washed up hasbeen that is her 'husband.' Page assured us that we have probably seen the last of DDP in WCW. Dusty Rhodes suddenly walked out from the back to no music. Rhodes apparently was here to try and talk some sense into Kimberly. He was clearly disappointed in what has transpired the past few weeks - claiming that he had known Kimberly and DDP for a long time and he could remember a time when those two were the embodyment of what true love really meant. Rhodes doesn't claim to know what went on behind the closed doors of their marriage - and quite frankly, it doesn't matter to him. Because if there are problems - there's other ways to handle it besides doing what she's done. He could look into her eyes and tell that she's not the same Kimberly that he traveled the roads with with Page the past few years. She's not the same girl who was so excited backstage the night Page won his first WCW championship. He said he expected a lot more class out of her than she has shown...and he doesn't know how to put into words how disappointed her was in her. And as for Stamboli - Dusty said he has a lot of nerve to try and use another man's wife to make a name for himself. Rhodes assured Stamboli there's a special place in the deepest, darkest places of Hell reserved for people like him. He said doesn't deny that Stamboli has the talent and the ability to be a star...but there's better ways to go about it. You work your way up the ladder...something DDP was famous for doing. He doesn't know how Stamboli can even sleep at nights with what he has done. Rhodes assured Stamboli that he may get famous this way, but there's one thing he will never have...and that's the respect of the people backstage. And that's the one place Page will ALWAYS be better than either one of them at. Stamboli took the microphone and told Rhodes that first and foremost, if you want to know how he sleeps at night...he tells Rhodes he's right...when he's sharing a bed with Kimberly - not much sleeping gets done! And as for respect, he's not too worried about that...because eventually he'll keep doing things like this and if people don't respect him, they damn sure will FEAR him. "Things like what" Dusty wanted to know... "Like THIS" - Stamboli said as he drove the microphone into the side of Dusty's head. Rhodes stumbled to the mat and Stamboli pounced on him, beating him to the canvas and then laying the boots to him. Kimberly reached into her handbag and handed Stamboli his chain. Stamboli whipped Rhodes' back with the chain before wrapping it around his fist. Rhodes stumbled to his feet right into a right hand from Stamboli's chained fist. Rhodes fell to the mat as WCW officials hit the ring. Stamboli and Kimberly left Rhodes to be attended to by the medics, leaving the ring to boos. (74%) ----- Non-Title Match Jindrak & Stasiak (w/Stacy Keibler) vs. Chavo Guerrero & Lash LeRoux The new WCW tag champs were in action tonight in non-title action against the reunited former tag champs of Chavo and Lash LeRoux, formerly of Misfits in Action. The former misfits were looking to get back into their old chemistry and make a good showing against the champs, but the champs were more interested in looking impressive in their first outting as the tag champs. And they managed to accomplish that goal - while Chavo was looking good early, once LeRoux was tagged in - a double team from the champions allowed them to cut the ring off and keep the focus all on LeRoux. LeRoux attempted to fight back and make the hot tag, but he was cut off by Jindrak. Jindrak knocked Chavo off the apron and the duo performed their spinebuster/dropkick combo known as the Mark of Perfection for the three count victory. WINNER - Jindrak & Stasiak by pinfall (70/63/78) As Stacy Keibler entered the ring to raise her team's arms in victory - Rey Mysterio and Billy Kidman walked out onto the stage. Kidman took the microphone, which right there was just a bad idea. Kidman asked how they were enjoying keep THEIR titles warm for them? Kidman explained it would only be a matter of time before they had their titles back. Rey then took over the talking, telling Stasiak and Jindrak to enjoy their moment while they could...because Shane McMahon has officially signed a REMATCH for NEXT WEEK right here on Nitro. The Filthy Animals promised to bring the tag titles back home around their waists. Back in the ring, Stasiak & Jindrak nor Stacy Keibler were pleased at all. (59%) ----- Making Things Right Backstage, the rest of the Gentlemen's club - Ric Flair, Goldberg, and Curt Hennig were preparing for Flair's match against Sting. Flair took Goldberg aside and blamed him for the title loss...his miscalculation with the Spear is what cost him the WCW Title. Flair told Goldberg while he was very upset at the time...Goldberg still has the chance to make it up to him. And if he likes getting paid, he knows what he has to do. Goldberg snarled while Hennig watched on, nodding in approval. (100%) ----- Main Event - #1 Contenders Match Ric Flair vs. Sting The winner of this match would receive a WCW title shot against Booker T at Bash at the Beach. Flair came out alone, which had to make Sting feel better about his chances. These two know each other better than perhaps anyone in the locker room, and early on it showed as neither man could get a clear advantage. As the match continued, Sting started to assert himself and took control of Flair - picking up a few nearfalls, but not enough to get that much needed victory to send him on to Bash at the Beach. However, an attempt at a Stinger Splash went wrong when Flair moved out of the way. Sting hit the turnbuckles and then Flair lit up his chest with some chops. Flair snap mared Sting to the mat and then gave him a kick to the spine. Flair continued on the attack, repeatedly trying to put away Sting with no success. Frustration started to get the best of Flair, which in turn made him more vulnerable to a Sting come-back... Sting saw the door open when Flair took to the top turnbuckle. Sting got back to his feet and tossed Flair off the top rope! Flair rolled back to his feet, but Sting bounced off the ropes and hit a leaping bulldog to Flair. Sting made the cover, but only got two. It looked like Sting was gaining the momentum needed as he hit a pair of Stinger splashes to Flair...Flair dropped to the mat and Sting locked on the Scorpion Deathlock! Referee Charles Robinson checked in on Flair, who was not ready to give up. Curt Hennig suddenly made his way to the ring and climbed onto the apron, successfully distracting the referee as Flair tapped out! Meanwhile, Goldberg slid into the ring and broke up the Scorpion Deathlock with a stiff superkick! Goldberg pulled Sting up...JACKHAMMER! Goldberg put Flair on top and rolled out of the ring as Hennig jumped down off the apron. Robinson turned around to just see Flair ontop of Sting...One, Two, Three! WINNER - Ric Flair by pinfall via interference (88/94/76%) After the match, Hennig climbed into the ring to help Flair to his feet. Goldberg climbed in as well and they raised Flair's arms in victory as the Gentlemen's Club stood victorious over Sting to end the show. OVERALL - 79% |
