WCW World Title 'I Quit' Match Booker T (c) vs. Ric Flair - 4 points - I like Booker more going forward and there are a nice collection of heels left to take this spot. Sting vs. Goldberg - 3 points - He's dominated a lot of the feud, but I think it still has some legs. WCW United States/Canadian Heavyweight Title Match Lance Storm (c) vs. Hugh Morrus vs. Konnan vs. Shane Douglas - 3 points - He only recnetly got the belt, which was already sort of hot shotted to him. WCW Tag Team Titles Match The Filthy Animals (c) vs. Stasiak & Jindrak - 2 points - If only to give Kidman and Rey some freedom and maybe even build decent in the Gentlemen's club. WCW Cruiserweight Title Match Shane Helms (c) vs. Chavo Guerrero - 2 points - Chavo done well, but I don't think he's the guy to collect. WCW Extreme Title Match Mike Awesome (c) vs. Terry Funk - 2 points - This could be ugly. Dustin Rhodes vs. Johnny 'The Bull' Stamboli - 2 points - I think the Bull needs the win slightly more. Tommy Dreamer & Jerry Lynn vs. 3 Count - 2 points - Perhaps by NEW BAND MEMBERFERENCE. BONUS 1. What match will open the show? 1 point Crusierweight title, in true WCW fashion. 2. Who will take the fall in the US Title Match? 1 point - I'll say Hugh Morrus actually. 3. Number of interferences in the WCW Title Match. 1 point 1. TIE BREAKER Predict the EWR Overall Rating of Bash at the Beach. Closest wins. I'll say 78 |

WCW Freeview - Bash at the Beach 2001 Scott Hudson and Don Callis hosted the 30-minute PPV Preshow right prior to the start of the show. They along with Michelle Gold ran down the card and hyped up the matches for the event. Of course most heavily featured in the hype were the two huge matches of the night - Booker T defending the WCW Title in an 'I Quit' Match against Ric Flair and Goldberg taking on Sting. FreeView Match Double Jeopardy (w/Tammy Sytch) vs. Alex Wright & Norman Smiley The team of Alex Wright and Norman Smiley certainly made for an interesting matchup - as the fans seemed to enjoy the duo's dancing and hijinks...unfortunately for them they picked a bad opponent to make their tag team debut against as Bigelow and Candido were NOT interested in their tomfoolery. So if this was going to be Wright's attempt to show 3 Count how good he was, it probably was a bad idea. While Wright and Smiley did get some offense in against Candido, once Bigelow entered the ring - it became complete domination by the Beast from the East. Wright would fall victim to the Greetings From Asbury Park while Candido took out Smiley with a belly-to-belly suplex before both men took to the top turnbuckles for a double diving headbutt called the Double Shot! Bigelow made the cover on Wright to pick up the academic victory. WINNERS - Double Jeopardy by pinfall (70/63/77) With the free match out of the way, it was time to wrap up the preshow. One final promotional video for Bash at the Beach aired running down the card and highlights leading up to the event before Hudson and Callis sent it to Mike Tenay and Glenn Gilberti for the PPV! --------- WCW Bash at the Beach July 15, 2001 Announcers: Mike Tenay & Glenn Gilberti Tenay and Gilberti thanked us for buying the PPV and promised us we would definitely be getting our money's worth tonight as this was the must see event of the Summer! Lots of action to get to tonight, so let's send it straight to the ring for our opening match. Tommy Dreamer & Jerry Lynn vs. 3 Count Evan Karagias and Shannon Moore may be in search of a new member of 3 count, but tonight it was all about them as they had to take on the two men they had been putting their recruits up against - Dreamer and Lynn. This was a pretty much by the book tag match as Dreamer and Lynn took control early on Karagias and Moore before Karagias snuck in a knee to Lynn's back as Lynn bounced off the ropes, allowing Karagias to drop Lynn to the mat with a dropkick. Karagias began working over Lynn - going for multiple pinfalls of off a snap suplex, a standing moonsault, and even a corner powerbomb - but Lynn kept kicking out. Karagias brought in Moore and the duo double teamed Lynn until referee Billy Silverman sent Karagias out of the ring. Shannon Moore went right back on the attack to Lynn - picking up a nearfall off of sleeperslam. Lynn began to fight his way back into the match and suddenly it became a back and forth cradle and roll up-athon from Moore and Lynn as the duo traded pinning combination after pinning combination until Lynn took Moore to the mat with a tornado DDT. Both men were down and they both struggled to make the tag. The hot tag was made at the same time on both sides, and the hotter Dreamer took full control. Karagias and Moore took turns being laid out by Dreamer. Dreamer hit a falling neckbreaker to Moore followed by a fallaway slam to Karagias. It looked like Dreamer was on his way to victory when Cassidy O'Reilly came from the crowd. O'Reilly slid into the ring to try and help out his prospective teammates - but Dreamer met him with a kick to the midsection and a DDT! As referee Billy Silverman checked on O'Reilly and tried to get him out of the ring...Joey Matthews also came from the crowd! Matthews slid into the ring behind Dreamer's back and delivered a low blow! Moore and Karagias, shocked by Matthews and O'Reilly's appearances was encouraged by Matthews to take advantage. Matthews rolled out of the ring as Moore did just that...BOTTOMS UP to Dreamer! Karagias then made the cover as Moore took out Lynn before he could make the save and Silverman returned to make the count - One, Two, Three! WINNERS - 3 Count by pinfall via interference (75/69/82) Joey Matthews climbed into the ring and raised Karagias' hand in victory while O'Reilly climbed back in and raised Moore's hand! Moore and Karagias shrugged and celebrated with their two recruits. ----- WCW Extreme Title Match Mike Awesome (c) (w/Jimmy Hart) vs. Terry Funk The Funkster seemed to think he had a lot to prove tonight against the Extreme Champion, Mike Awesome. Funk wanted to show he could still hang with the likes of Awesome - and he certainly showed he still had what it takes - at least to take a beating. Perhaps no one in the history of professional wrestling has been as good at taking a beating than Funk, and he certainly took one tonight at the hands of Mike Awesome. Right from the getgo - Awesome controlled the offense, overpowering the older Funk and sending him to ringside where the brawl continued. Awesome used everything at ringside at his disposal to work over Funk - but Funk kept getting back up for more. Funk would finally grab a chair and drive it into Awesome's midsection to get some offense in. Funk worked Awesome over with a few more chair shots before rolling him back into the ring. As Funk started to climb back into the ring - Jimmy Hart grabbed Funk's foot! When he did this, it stopped Funk long enough for Awesome to charge in and knock Funk off the apron into the ring barrier. With Funk stumbling to get to his feet - Awesome showed just how mobile he is for a big man as he sailed through the ropes with a suicide dive onto Funk! Awesome rolled Funk back into the ring as Jimmy Hart helped Awesome get a table out and slide it into the ring. Awesome set up the table only to have Funk attack him from behind! Funk slammed Awesome head first into the table and then went for the Piledriver to Awesome...but Awesome backdropped Funk into the air onto the table! Funk's back cracked heard across the table as the table had no give in it. Awesome climbed onto the table with Funk and began to set him up...SITDOWN AWESOMEBOMB THROUGH THE TABLE! Awesome made the cover - One, Two, Thre...FUNK SOMEHOW GOT A SHOULDER UP! Awesome shook his head in disbelief as Jimmy Hart slid another table into the ring to Awesome. Awesome picked the table up and propped it up in the corner as amazingly Funk was staggering to his feet. Awesome saw Funk back up and immediately knocked Funk back down with a right hand. Awesome pulled Funk up once again - this time hitting a RUNNING AWESOME BOMB through the second table! Awesome pulled Funk from the wreckage of the second table and made the cover - One, Two, Three! WINNER - Mike Awesome by pinfall (70/65/76) With Funk successfully put away, Awesome was handed the Extreme Title by Jimmy Hart. As Hart led Awesome back up the ramp, the duo was surprised to see on the big screen that Funk was already pulling himself back up in the ring. Funk staggered to the center of the ring and was asking Awesome to come back down! Awesome started to go down the ramp, but was stopped by Jimmy Hart who told him he had done what he was suppose to - he won the match. Awesome seemed to reluctantly listen to Hart and headed to the back as Funk was laughing in the ring. ----- WCW Cruiserweight Title Match Shane Helms (c) vs. Chavo Guerrero Stacy Keibler came down to the ring first, once again toating the briefcase that contained the $500,000 that Chavo Guerrero was looking to win tonight along with the WCW title. Tenay ran down all the successful title defense Helms has had the past month and some change, and called it some of the most impressive work he had seen in all his years. Meanwhile, Chavo was coming into this match with a new outlook on life - finally embracing the teaching's his uncle had been trying to get him to embrace all those years. As Chavo tried to cheat his way to another title reign (strangely enough against the man who he lost the title to in the first place), Shane was trying to keep his title and follow through on his promise to take the 500,000 for himself if he won. The match was right on par with the other matches in this $500,000 series as Helms seems to have a good match with just about anyone. The match went back and forth from the opening bell - with both men picking up numberous nearfalls along the way. Chavo thought he had the title won off of a Tornado DDT, a move he had won so many matches with - but Shane shocked Chavo when he got his shoulder up just in the nick of time. Helms himself was throwing everything at Chavo and was unable to put him away either as the Sugarsmack Superkick only picked up a two count. An attempt of the Nightmare on Helms Street was countered and then reversed into a Northern Lights bridge from Chavo for a two count. Chavo showed his cheat to win nature as he snuck in a low blow to Helms and lifted him up and delivered the brainbuster! Chavo climbed to the top turnbuckle, looking for the Frog Splash...but Helms rolled out of the way! Both men were slow back to their feet, racing against the ten count. Both men got up at about the same time, but when Chavo took a swing at Helms, Helms sent him to the mat with a backslide for a two count. Helms took control and looked to finish Helms off with the Vertebreaker...but Chavo shoved Helms off into the ropes and took him down with a dropkick. Chavo reached into his tights for his brass knuckles, but referee Charles Robinson stepped in and grabbed Chavo's arm! As he did this, Stacy Keibler slid the steel briefcase into the ring! While Robinson was removing the knux - Chavo picked up the briefcase and KOed Helms with it! Chavo slid the briefcase back out before climbing to the top turnbuckle...FROG SPLASH - One, Two, Three! Cheat to win literally PAYS off for Chavo! WINNER - Chavo Guerrero by pinfall (84/69/99) Stacy Keibler climbed into the ring and congratulated Chavo on his win by giving him the WCW Cruiserweight Title and the briefcase. She then lifted his arm in the air in victory. Chavo celebrated with the Cruiserweight Title in one arm and the $500,000 briefcase in the other. ----- Dustin Rhodes vs. Johnny 'The Bull' Stamboli (w/Kimberly Page) These two wasted no time going at one another as as soon as Stamboli climbed into the ring - Rhodes was all over him. The match quickly spilled to the outside where Rhodes showed his roots as a Texas brawler as he dominated Stamboli at ringside as Kimberly watched on with concern. Rhodes sent the match back into the ring before it could end up with a double countout. In the ring, Rhodes looked to continue his control as he perched atop Stamboli and unleashed some stiff right hands to Stamboli's forehead. Stamboli wanted a time out, but as you may know there's no time out's in wrestling and Rhodes continued right on the attack. As Rhodes worked over Stamboli in the corner, Stamboli fell over into a sitting position in the corner and referee Mark Armstrong pulled Rhodes off. He gave Rhodes a warning and when Rhodes went to go back to work on Stamboli in the corner, Stamboli grabbed Rhodes and pulled him head first intot the turnbuckle! Stamboli took advantage and began to work over Rhodes as the two continued to put on a pretty decent slugfest. Stamboli dropped Rhodes with an enziguri before climbing out onto the apron and coming back into the ring with a springboard legdrop. Stamboli made the cover but only picked up two. Stamboli set up Rhodes for a jumping DDT, but Rhodes blocked it and pulled free with a wristlock before shoving Stamboli off then bulldoging him to the mat. Rhodes went for the cover - One, Two, Thre....kickout by Stamboli. Rhodes took back control and looked to put Stamboli away with the Curtain Call - but Kimberly distracted Rhodes on the apron. Rhodes dropped Stamboli and seemed to channel his inner 'Goldust' as he flaunted himself towards Kimberly then teased giving her a big kiss before Stamboli moved in and rolled up Rhodes from behind - One, Two, Three! WINNER - Johnny 'The Bull' Stamboli by pinfall (79/75/83) Stamboli and Kimberly immediately left the ring after the quick roll up as Rhodes was left fuming in the ring. ----- WCW Tag Team Titles Tornado Match The Filthy Animals (c) (w/Torrie Wilson) vs. Jindrak & Stasiak (w/Stacy Keibler) After losing the tag titles to Jindrak and Stasiak at The Great American Bash, The Filthy Animals pulled a trick out of their own sleeves to regain the belts two Nitros later. So now we have the 'rubber' match if you will. And if you're not familiar with the Tornado rules tag match - it just means all four men are going at it at the same time. So as you might imagine it is a pretty choatic match. Right away they paired off with Jindrak and Kidman trading blows and Mysterio with Stasiak. They speedy champions quickly got the upperhand on the challengers and Stasiak and Jindrak were ducking to ringside for a breather. But Kidman and Mysterio didn't let up as Kidman climbed to the top turnbuckle and jumped out with a Shoot Star Press off the top rope to the outside taking out both Stasiak and Jindrak! Then as all three men started to get up, here came Rey with a diving corkscrew plancha that took out everyone! After that chaotic beginning, things started to settle down as Rey ended up in the ring alone with Jindrak. Jindrak overpowered Mysterio and began working the champion over. He would receive some assistance after Stasiak sent Kidman crashing into the ring steps on the outside. As Stasiak joined his partner back in the ring, the ensuing double team was perfectly legal within the rules of the match. They worked over Mysterio and looked to put him away after a double vertical suplex - but Mysterio kicked out. Stasiak lifted Rey onto his shoulders and dropped him with the Perfect Plant but when he went for the pin - just as it was about to be a three count, Kidman came flying into the ring with a legdrop to break up the count. Jindrak attacked Kidman and attempted to powerbomb him, but Kidman reversed it into a facebuster! Stasiak recovered and attacked Kidman and the duo squared off while both Rey and Jindrak was struggling to their feet. Jindrak and Rey began to exchange blows until Kidman and Rey both it simultanious drop toe holds to send Jindrak and Stasiak across the middle ropes. They both bounced off the ropes and they each hit synchronized tiger feint kicks to Jindrak and Stasiak! Kidman springboard into the ring with a clothesline to Stasiak while Rey hit the West Coast Pop to Jindrak! Rey cradled Jindrak's legs - One, Two, Three! WINNERS - The Filthy Animals by pinfall (78/70/87) Kidman and Mysterio celebrated with their titles in the ring as Jindrak and Stasiak regrouped with Keibler outside the ring. This was definitely not the start the Gentlemen's Club was hoping for in their quest to dominate the night... ----- WCW United States/Canadian Heavyweight Title Match Lance Storm (c) vs. Shane Douglas vs. Hugh Morrus vs. Konnan All four men made their entrances and once the bell rang it was on - Konnan focused on Storm while Morrus and Douglas slugged it out. The two pairings seperated themselves as Douglas and Morrus ended up outside the ring in more of a back alley brawl that went all around the ring and even up the ramp - while in the ring Konnan and Storm were having a more civil, grapple based wrestling match that was going back and forth between the Mexican star and the Canadian star. Konnan back elbowed Storm out of a waistlock and sent Storm into the corner where he began to work him over. Meanwhile, Morrus laid out Douglas with a bodyslam onto the steel ramp. As Konnan hit Storm with an electric chair facebuster and went for the pin - Morrus slid back into the ring and broke up the count at two. Morrus began working over Konnan and would get a nearfall of his own after hitting a military slam to Konnan followed by a splash for a two count that was broken up by Storm. Storm worked over Morrus now as Shane Douglas made his way back to the ring to join the fun. As Konnan was getting up, Douglas attacked him from behind. Morrus was fighting back agianst Storm and sent himself and Storm out of the ring with a clothesline. Back in the ring, Douglas was getting the upperhand in a battle with Konnan. Douglas hit Konnan with his belly-to-belly suplex and made the cover - One, Two, Thr....Konnan just barely got his shoulder up in time. The match continued and soon Shane Douglas hit the Franchiser to Konnan! But as Douglas got up, Storm springboarded into the ring with a dropkick to Douglas! Storm tried to take advantage and made the cover on Konnan - One, Two, Th....Morrus broke it up! Morrus attacked Storm and laid him out with a bulldog. Morrus spotted Storm and made the climb to the top turnbuckle - NO LAUGHING MATTER! One, Two, Thre....Shane Douglas and Konnan both broke it up at the same time! Douglas, Konnan, and Morrus traded rights and lefts among one another until Konnan bounced off the ropes and took both men down with a double Rolling Thunder Clothesline! Douglas stumbled back up to his feet right into the K-Factor from Konnan! Douglas rolled out of the ring to the floor as Konnan delivered a second K-Factor, this time to Hugh Morrus! Konnan grabbed Morrus and locked him in the Tequila Sunrise! But before Morrus could tap out, Lance Storm broke up the submission with a superkick to Konnan! Konnan hit the mat and Storm grabbed the fallen Morrus and now trapped him in the Canadian Maple Leaf. Morrus fought it briefly but tapped out before anyone could break up the hold! WINNER - Lance Storm by submission (72/73/73) Storm took his 'Canadian Heavyweight' Title and left the ring before Douglas or Konnan could recover to try and get to Storm. Storm celebrated his victory on the stage as a Canadian Flag flew on the big screen. ----- Sting vs. Goldberg A big deal was made of Sting's winless record against Goldberg as the match got underway - as Goldberg has 3 singles victories over Sting while Sting has 0. And to add insult to that record, Goldberg got another victory over Sting on Thunder this week in a handi-cap match! Sting was looking to try and notch a victory against the man-machine Goldberg, but from the opening bell it was clear that would be no easy task. Sting opened up the match on fire against Goldberg, but Goldberg no-sold even Sting's offense. Goldberg fought back against Sting and immediately took control of the match. During the match, Goldberg displayed a wide variety of power moves against the Stinger - overpowering the 'Icon' of WCW with slam after slam - full nelson slam, front powerslam, and a pumphandle slam - all were followed by pinning attempts by Goldberg but Sting kicked out of each. Goldberg continued to dig into his move set - pulling some submission holds as he locked Sting in leglock, but Sting refused to submit. When that didn't work, Goldberg turned his attention to Sting's arms as he applied a cross-armbar to Sting - but once again Sting wasn't submitting. As Goldberg continued to literally beat the paint off of Sting, the crowd grew louder and louder trying to get the Stinger back into the match. It looked like Goldberg was ready to put Sting away as he set up for the Spear, but as he charged in, Sting moved and sent Goldberg into the turnbuckles. Sting immediately ran in with a Stinger Splash to Goldberg's back in the corner before turning Goldberg around and hitting a one-handed bulldog! Sting climbed to the top turnbuckle as Goldberg got back to his feet- Flying Clothesline to Goldberg! Sting went for the pin - One, Two, kickout by Goldberg! Sting continued on the offensive with his sudden rejuvination. After a couple of inverted atomic drops, Sting dropped Goldberg with a diving DDT to pick up another nearfall. An attempt to put Goldberg to sleep in a sleeperhold proved futile as Goldberg broke the sleeper hold with a back suplex. As both men got to their feet, Goldberg went for a clothesline...but Sting ducked and pulled Goldberg's head back - SCORPION DEATHDROP! Sting made the cover hooking the leg - One, Two, Thre....SHOULDER UP BY GOLDBERG!! Sting was in disbelief as was Tenay and Gilbertti. Sting followed up on Goldberg, grabbing him by the legs and turning him over into the Scorpion Deathlock. Referee Charles Robinson checked in on Goldberg, but Goldberg wasn't quitting. Goldberg muscled his way up on his arms and found his way to the ropes to break the hold. Sting let go and dropped some clubbing blows to Goldberg as he began to pull himself up, but Goldberg shook it all off and shoved Sting off before hitting him with a Big Boot to slow Sting back down. Goldberg went back to work on Sting taking him down with a double underhook suplex. However when Goldberg attempted an Irish Whip to Sting, Sting reversed it and sent Goldberg into the corner. STINGER SPLASH! Sting sent Goldberg into the opposite corner. A SECOND STINGER SPLASH! Sting wasn't done yet, he sent Sting into the corner again! He ran in for another Stinger Splash, BUT GOLDBERG CHARGED OUT OF THE CORNER WITH THE SPEAR TO STING!! Both men were down and the crowd was on their feet in shock as Goldberg started to slowly pull himself up. Goldberg signaled that it was time to end it...he took his time picking up Sting, enjoying the moment as he hooked Sting around his head. He gave the thumbs down as he picked up Sting in the air. Goldberg walked around the ring with Sting up in the air...taking his time before delivering the Jackhammer...but before he could hit it, Goldberg wiggled free and down Goldberg's back - SCORPION DEATHDROP TO GOLDBERG! Sting was down as well however - an unable to immediately make the pin! Sting crawled over and got the pin - ONE, TWO, THRE...ANOTHER KICKOUT BY GOLDBERG! Sting and the crowd were beside themselves. He pounded the mat in frustration as Goldberg started to get to his feet. Sting whipped Goldberg into the corner...yet another STINGER SPLASH for Goldberg. Sting pulled Goldberg out of the corner and dropped him with a THIRD SCORPION DEATHDROP! Sting hooked Goldberg's leg...ONE....TWO....THREE-Goldberg kicked out right after the three, but it was good enough! Sting wins! WINNER - Sting by pinfall (82/93/59) Sting climbed out of the ring, exhausted from having to literally pull out everything in the book to somehow manage to beat Goldberg. Tenay almost lost his voice in excitement...and even after that amazing victory by Sting, they still had another match to go! ----- MAIN EVENT - WCW World Title 'I Quit' Match Booker T (c) vs. Ric Flair In what was billed as the last title match ever between these two - Booker T and Ric Flair went at it in one of the most brutal stipulations in wrestling - The 'I Quit' Match. The match would not end until one wrestler verbally declared that they quit. The champion and challenger stared down to start the match before moving in for a lock up. Flair brought his knee up into Booker's midsection to get control early. Flair showed his plans from the early going as he lifted Booker up and drove his knee into Booker's leg with a knee buster. It would be no secret Flair planned on focusing his attention on Booker's knee to hopefully make him quit the match. Flair took Booker to the mat and worked him over with stiff fists before turning his attention back to Booker's leg. Booker fought his way back to his feet, but Flair sent him into the corner and hit some knife edge chops. But Booker's eyes just grew wide. He grabbed Flair and tossed him into the corner and hit Flair with some chops of his own! Things remained clean early as the two continued to go back and forth in what was basically a pure wrestling match. It wasn't until Booker T started to show firm control of the match did things start to get a little nasty. Booker T was in form control of Flair, and had Flair set up for the Scissors kick, but Flair moved out of the way and hit a low blow to Booker! Flair pulled Booker to the ringpost before Flair himself climbed out of the ring and pulled Booker crotch first into the ring post! The crowd at ringside let Flair have it, but Flair ignored them and then locked on a Figure Four to Booker around the ring post! Referee Nick Patrick took the microphone and checked on Booker - asking him if he was going to quit. Booker T was obviously in a lot of pain but he was not quitting. Flair kept the hold on for a few more moments as Booker T continued to resist giving in. Flair released the hold but then grabbed Booker's leg and slammed it into the ring post three times. Flair picked up a chair from ringside and tossed it into the ring. Booker T was crawling towards the middle of the ring when Flair lifted the chair up and drove it down into Booker's spine. Booker fell to the mat and Flair wrapped the chair around Booker's leg. Flair told Booker to quit or he was going to break his leg! Booker resisted so Flair stomped on the chair twice! "ASK HIM" Flair demanded to Nick Patrick. Patrick checked on Booker, but Booker - despite the intense pain he was in - screamed NO. Flair shook his head in anger and stomped on the chair two more times! Booker rolled around the mat in agonizing pain, managing to free his leg from the chair. Flair stalked Booker T like a lion stalking a gazel..he moved in and hit a few kneedrops to Booker's bad leg before pulling him to the middle of the ring and locking on another Figure Four! Nick Patrick immediately checked in on Booker who was writhing in pain. Booker T kept shaking his head no frantically as the crowd loudly cheered on their champion. Booker T somehow was able to find some strength as he turned Flair over in the submission! Now Patrick was checking on Flair! Flair didn't give up and pulled to the ropes and the apron, pulling himself free to the outside. Flair slowly got to his feet, rolled back into the ring and picked up the chair off the mat as Booker was trying to get to his feet. Flair moved in and Booker T sent a fist to Flair's gut! Flair dropped the chair and doubled over as Booker hobbled to his feet. Booker picked up the chair and cracked it across Flair's head! Flair dropped to the mat and Booker crouched over him, slamming fist after fist into Flair's forehead. As Booker got up, blood began to trickle down Flair's forehead as Booker picked up the chair again. Flair began pulling himself up only to receive another chairshot from Booker! Flair hit the mat and rolled out of the ring. Booker followed him to ringside and sent Flair crashing into the ring steps. Booker continued on the attack at ringside, hobbling around on his good leg while giving Flair a beating. The two began to brawl near the announce booth, which made Tenay and Gilberti nervous. They stood up as Booker slammed Flair's bloody head into the announce booth. He rolled Flair onto the announce booth before climbing up himself...BOOKEND THROUGH THE ANNOUNCE BOOTH! Both men were down in a wreckage of wood and electrical equipment as Nick Patrick moved in to check on both men. Both were in responsive, which doesn't lend itself towards a match where you have to actually say that you quit. Booker used the guard rail to help pull himself up before he picked Flair up and shoved him to the apron. Flair used the apron to help keep himself up as Booker moved in on the attack...but Flair reached up and poked Booker in the eye! Flair then grabbed the ring bell and nailed Booker in the head with it! Flair retook control and the match began to find it's way up the ramp! Flair DDTed Booker T onto the steel ramp and took the microphone from Patrick. "SAY YOU QUIT" Flair demanded before driving the microphone into Booker's head. Flair put the microphone down infront of Booker, but Booker was not quitting. "SAY IT! SAY IT! SAY IT! SAY IT!" Flair was on a tirade as he repeatedly kicked Booker up the ramp. Flair shoved the microphone back to Patrick and then locked on another Figure Four to Booker! Patrick checked in but Booker T was still refusing to give up. Even on the ramp, Booker managed to turn the hold over on Flair again! Flair pulled himself free before much damage could be done. Flair went back after Booker, but Booker took a page out of Flair's own playbook with a LOWBLOW to Flair! Booker picked Flair up and hit him with a high angle spinebuster onto the steel ramp! Booker then lifted Flair's knee into the air and slammed it repeatedly into the steel ramp over and over again! Flair began trying to crawl away from Booker, making his way to the stage...but Booker hobbled right behind him. Booker grabbed Flair on the stage and locked him in a Scorpion Deathlock! Booker must have been taking notes from Sting! Nick Patrick checked in on Flair who was fighting the pain and shaking his blood soaked head back and forth - trying his best to not give up. But Booker T just yanked back on the hold further, intensifying the pain. Finally, Flair could no longer bear the pain and yelled "I QUIT" into the microphone! Booker T released the hold and dropped to his knees as the bell rang! WINNER - Booker T by submission (89/96/73) The WCW Title was rushed up the ramp and handed to Booker T, who could not even stand up on his own power. He stayed on his knees - holding up the WCW title to a loud ovation from the crowd. Sting and some WCW officials came out to help Booker T to his feet as other WCW officials attended to Flair. The show came to a close as Sting helped hold Booker T up as Booker T lifted up the belt once more for the crowd. OVERALL - 80% |

WCW Tuesday Nitro July 17, 2001 Announcers: Mike Tenay & Glenn Gilberti Welcome to WCW Tuesday Nitro! Tenay and Gilberti welcomed us to the show after a recap of last night's Bash at the Beach PPV where we witnessed Sting get his first victory over Goldberg and Booker T won a brutal 'I Quit' match against Ric Flair to retain the WCW World Title. Tonight we begin the road to WCW Mayhem - the next PPV. Changes Are Coming Shane McMahon made his way down to the ring to start the show off. Shane said last night's Bash at the Beach was a memorable show and that he was very satisfied with the direction WCW is heading under his watch. He said for the past few months since purchasing WCW, he's been around to make sure everything got going the way he wanted...but as time has progressed - he finds himself pulled in more and more directions as the responsibilities as CEO grows. For that reason, he revealed that he was always his plan to be around to be on television the first few months, but eventually he was going to have to put someone in charge as he tended to the various other duties called for by an owner. With that being said, Shane McMahon announced that he was not putting just one man in charge of the daily duties here in WCW...instead, he's instituted a Board of Directors to run things for him. Among the Board of Directios would be senior referee Nick Patrick, long WCW agents Larry Zbysko, Arn Anderson, and Mike Rotunda as well as our very own WCW lead announcer - Mike Tenay. Also there was one more member who will show up later tonight that has been voted Chairman of the Board of Directors who will act as the head of the board. He wasn't giving away the surprise just yet, but the person will be here by the end of the night. But before Shane stepped away, he had one final piece of business he wanted to attend to. He wanted to book one more match before stepping out of the spotlight - and that would be the MAIN EVENT of WCW's next Pay-Per-View - WCW Mayhem. It will be a WCW Title match with Booker T defending against a man who certainly earned a title shot after last night's PPV...and that man was... STING! "Seek and Destroy" played as Sting came out to a big pop from the crowd. Sting walked down to the ring, entered, and shook hands withe boss. Sting took the microphone as Shane McMahon headed out. Sting began talking about Sunday night's match against Goldberg and how great it felt to finally get that win. He said he's won a lot of matches in his day - but whenever there's one person you've just never been able to get that elusive victory over, it just bothers you deep down inside...but now he has that monkey off his back and he was looking forward to taking on Booker T at WCW Mayhem. "CAN YOU DIG IT...SUCKA?" Out came WCW Champion Booker T, who had a crutch under his shoulder to help him hobble down to the ring - selling the effects of the 'I Quit' match. Booker climbed into the ring to join his challenger. Sting congratulated the champ, but noticed he was a little worse for wear. Booker T told Sting not to worry, that by Mayhem he would be 100% and ready for the challenge. Sting said after the way Booker T won the I Quit match, he probably should've been offering Sting a title shot on a silver platter - Sting pointed to NitroVision where we saw the clip of Booker T having Ric Flair in the Scorpion Death Lock. Booker laughed and said he definitely owed Sting one for that one. Booker said it would be a pleasure to defend the title against him, but he was looking forward to getting a victory over the Stinger at Mayhem - now can you dig THAT....STTINNGGGAAAAAA? (82%) ----- Mexico's Most Wanted vs. German Chocolate Two relatively newly formed tag teams apparently as Juventud Guerrera and Psicosis continue to team, and now have a name - 'Mexico's Most Wanted' - while Alex Wright and Norman Smiley just teamed together at the PPV Pre-show but already have a team name - German Chocolate! The match got underway with Norman Smiley taking on Psicosis, and quickly the speedy Mexicans took control of Smiley. But Wright got the tag and quickly Psicosis to the mat. The match didn't really get too far before Curt Hennig, Goldberg, Mark Jindrak, and Shawn Stasiak made their way down to the ring. The foursome of The Gentlemen's Club entered the ring and began attacking all four men! Referee Mark Johnson threw the match out... WINNERS - Draw by outside interfernece Goldberg took out Juvi with a spear while Hennig tossed Norman Smiley over the top rope to the floor. Mark Jindrak and Shawn Stasiak hit the Mark of Perfection to Psicosis and Alex Wright fell victim to a Jackhammer from Goldberg! Hennig took the microphone once the ring was cleared. Apparently, the Gentlemen's Club were NOT in a good mood after they lost every single match they were involved in on Sunday. He said it was pretty sad that there biggest 'victory' of the night was the fact that Chavo Guerrero was able to beat Shane Helms to cash in Flair's bounty on the Cruiserweight Title. But even that was a small victory. Hennig said Flair wasn't here tonight but he was in charge and going to do something about the injustices from Sunday. And to make matter's worse, they find out that there's some 'Board of Director's' that's going to be calling the shots now. Hennig said that he didn't care who the 'Chairman' was going to be, because the Gentlemen's Club play by their own rules. "VERTEBREAKER!" Shane Helms walked out from the back and stopped on the stage with a microphone. Helms congratulated the Gentlemen's Club on their 'success' Sunday night and was impressed at how much time and effort Flair put into just trying to get the Cruiserweight Title off of him. But now that he is no longer the Cruiserweight Champion, he has realized he's going to have a lot of free time on his hands since he won't be defending the belt against whomever Flair could dig up to face him... So Helms suggested that Hennig get on the phone and give Flair a phone call and come down to the arena tonight..to face HIM himself. Hennig reminded Helms that that match had already happened, and Helms lost. Remember? Helms said that may be true, but that didn't stop him from wanting to give it another try. After all, Goldberg had ALWAYS beaten Sting...well up until Sunday night anyway. So Helms figured Sting to be his inspiration and he'd give it another go. Hennig looked to his teammates and then gave a smirk. If Helms wanted a match with Flair...then Hennig would make sure Flair was there tonight...Helms had the match he wanted! It would be Flair vs. Shane Helms tonight! (85%) ----- Konnan vs. Andrew Martin After being unsuccessful at winning the United States/Canadian Heavyweight Title at Bash at the Beach, Konnan was looking to get back on the winning track by taking on Andrew Martin, who himself was looking to get back to winning after being one-upped again by Mike Sanders and The Wall. After a hot start by Konnan, Martin quickly wore Konnan down with his size and strength advantage. Martin overpowered Konnan with several slams and suplexes, but Konnan kept kicking out and Martin began to show some frustration as he argued with referee Billy Silverman. This allowed Konnan to recover and go back on the offensive to Martin. Konnan hit a back suplex to Martin and picked up a two count. Martin fought his way back into the match, but when he went for his Big Boot, Konnan ducked and bounced off the ropes again - this time taking Martin down with the Rolling Thunder Larait. Konnan stayed on the attack, hitting Martin with the K-Factor to pick up the three count victory! WINNER - Konnan by pinfall (73/72/74) Are You Serious? As Konnan left the ring victorious, Martin was left alone in the ring - visibly upset at his loss. As he sulked about his loss - 'Canadian Heavyweight Champion' Lance Storm made his way down to the ring to some decent heel heat from the live audience. Storm climbed into the ring and took the microphone and immediately opened up with "Are you serious?" This coming from the man known for his 'seriousness.' Storm began to berate Martin for losing AGAIN. He asked Martin what country he was born in...Martin replied that he was indeed 'Canadian.' Storm cut his eyes at Martin and called him a disgrace to the Canadian wrestling legacy. Storm held up his 'Canadian Heavyweight' Title and said Martin that Canada needs more heroes like himself. He said people like Martin might as well be.......Storm paused dramtically before finishing the sentence off in disgust with 'American.' Storm told Martin if he wanted to represent his country with PRIDe - he needed to start acting more like a WINNING Canadian and less like a pathetic LOSING American. Storm then finished off his tirade of Martin with an open handed slap to the face. Which was apparently enough to set Martin off as he immediately decked Storm with a stiff right hand! Storm hit the mat and rolled out of the ring before any more damage could be done. Storm held his jaw as he backed up the ramp as Martin stared him down from in the ring. (71%) ----- Non-Title Match The Filthy Animals (w/Torrie Wilson) vs. Double Jeopardy (w/Tammy Sytch) The reigning WCW Tag Champions were fresh off a successful title defense at Bash at the Beach against Jindrak & Stasiak, but had a quick turn around to a non-title match against the hard-nosed team of Chris Candido and Bam Bam Bigelow. Bigelow and Candido have looked impressive the few matches they've had as a team, but their partnership is not a new one as they have plenty of experience together as Triple Jeopardy. The champions were definitely in a tough amtch here as Bigelow and Candido worked well together and seemed to have the champions against the ropes. A win here in a non-title match would be a big step towards a potential title shot for Double Jeopardy - and they definitely were fighting like they wanted that title shot. Mysterio found himself in a lot of trouble as Candido and Bigelow went back and forth against the smaller man. Bigelow especially was dominant when in the ring against the smaller competitors. A big splash to a fallen Mysterio netted him a two count before Kidman broke it up. Once Candido was back in the ring, Mysterio was able to open the door for a hot tag to Kidman after a head scissors takedown to Candido. Mysterio made it to the corner and tagged in Kidman who springboarded into the ring with a clothesline to Candido. Kidman was on fire against Candido and looking like his momentum was going to bring the champions to victory...but as Kidman set up Candido for the Kid Krusher, Bigelow entered the ring and took out Kidman with a big clothesline! Mysterio tried to even the odds, but Bigelow lifted Mysterio up into a Military press and threw him out of the ring to the floor! With Kidman alone in the ring, Bigelow hit him with the Greetings From Asbury Park! Bigelow and Candido climbed opposite turnbuckles for their double diving headbutt called the DOUBLE SHOT! Candido hooked the leg and picked up the three count victory over the tag champions! What a huge win for this team! WINNERS - Double Jeopardy by pinfall (79/69/90) Tammy Sytch climbed into the ring and lifted the victors' arms up as Torrie helped regroup the champions, both of whom were still in shock over their loss. ----- Shane Helms vs. Ric Flair Shane Helms made his way down to the ring, eager to get another crack at defeating the legendary Ric Flair. However, as Ric Flair's music hit the PA system - Helms and the entire world would be in for a huge letdown as out came, not Ric Flair...but his son... David Flair! Well, Hennig did say Helms would have a match against Flair. He just didn't clarify which Flair... Shane Helms vs. Despite the disappointment, Helms knew he still had to take care of business against David. Helms went right at the younger Flair and barely let David get in any offense. A low blow from David slowed Helms down and Flair hit Helms with a couple chops before taking Helms to the mat with a back suplex. Flair went for the pin but only got a two count. Ultimately this would be the only offense Flair would get as Helms fought back and took out Flair with a Shining Wizard. After a Topspin facebuster, Helms finished off Flair with the Nightmare On Helms Street for the victory. WINNER - Shane Helms by pinfall (68/70/65) A Prophecy Fulfilled As Helms left the ring, David Flair was slowly recovering - looking as disturbed as ever in his defeat. However, the lights in the arena dimmed as a video played that was similar to the "Prophet" videos that have been airing the past month or so. At the end of the video, the identity of the 'Prophet' was finally revealed as the video welcomed "The Prophet" A.J. Styles to WCW. AJ Styles slowly walked down to the ring with a hooded jacket on. He climbed into the ring and took the microphone to address David Flair. Styles appeared to be sympathetic towards David Flair - recognizing the fact that he was deeply disturbed. He has been watching Flair for a long time...noticing how unstable he was when he was with Daffney and Crowbar. He commented that he could understand why David sometimes felt like a lost soul...just look at all he's been through. He had to watch his former girlfriend Stacy Keibler...someone he thought was going to be the mother of his child...just turn around and laugh in his face and leave with another man. And Styles said it couldn't be easy growing up as the son of the legendary Ric Flair. He understood that there must be A LOT of pressure on him to be the man his father was and is. Styles said he has come to WCW for people just like Flair. People, who for whatever reason, have lost their way. People like Flair who feel like they are missing that one thing that would make their life whole. There are so many lost sheep in WCW and Styles is their shephard. He is the missing piece that will lead people like Flair to the promise land. He offered Flair to come with him, and he would set him free...join his Prophecy and no longer would he have to live in his father's shadow. Styles said he knows that it might be a lot to ask for him to trust someone he literally just met...but he is only here to help. Styles lowered his hood and showed sincerity as he extended his hand to the confused Flair. After brief dilberation, Flair accepted the handshake. Styles smiled and put his free hand across their joined hands and told Flair that he has made the right decision today. He promised his life would be in for a miraculous change. Styles left the ring with Flair following while Tenay, Gilberti, and the crowd were not sure what to make of what they just witnessed. (66%) ----- Johnny 'The Bull' Stamboli (w/Kimberly Page) vs. Dustin Rhodes This was a re-match from Bash at the Beach, as Dustin Rhodes wanted another shot at Stamboli. The match was on par with their outting from Bash at the Beach - as the two brawled back and forth from the opening bell. Neither man seemed to be getting a clear advantage until Kimberly stuck her nose into the match and grabbed Rhodes' foot as he bounced off the ropes. When Rhodes turned to yell at Kim - Stamboli attacked Rhodes from behind. Stamboli used this advantage to take control of Rhodes. Stamboli would get a nearfall off of a sidewalk slam and then a spinebuster - but Rhodes kicked out of both covers. Stamboli laid out Rhodes again and climbed to the top turnbuckle. He went for a flying legdrop, but Rhodes rolled out of the way. Stamboli hit nothing but canvas and was slow to recover - giving Rhodes the advantage now. Rhodes hit some punch combinations right out of his father Dusty Rhodes' playbook before decking Stamboli with a bionic elbow. Stamboli rolled out of the ring to try and regroup, but Rhodes followed him to the outside. Rhodes and Stamboli brawled around ringside which saw Rhodes attempt to send Stamboli into the ringsteps - but Stamboli reversed it and sent Rhodes crashing into the steps instead! Stamboli rolled Rhodes back into the ring where he took control once more. Stamboli would stay in control and look to be on his way to victory, but when he lifted Rhodes up for the Fuh-get-a-bout-it... "SELF HIGH FIVE" Was heard over the PA System! Stamboli, spooked out by the idea of Page coming to the ring - immediately dropped Rhodes to the mat and darted from the ring along with Kimberly. They ran out through the crowd as they expected Page to be on his way to the ring. Nick Patrick counted Stamboli out as no DDP ever appeared. WINNER - Dustin Rhodes by countout (79/75/83) ----- Head On Collision We cut to the back where Johnny Stamboli and Kimberly Page are now in the parking deck, frantically heading for their car. As Stamboli and Kimberly approached their luxurious Maserati - when suddenly in the distance, a pair of headlights came on and a motor was revving. Stamboli and Kimberly immediately freaked out and ran to the car as tires began to squeal. "HURRY UP!" Kimberly demanded as Stamboli fumbled to find his keys.... A large Ford Truck came speeding towards the duo, and Kimberly ran off as Stamboli continued fumbling for the keys. He saw the truck coming and ran off just before he could be smashed by the truck! The truck destroyed the side of the Maserati. The door to the truck open and out stepped Diamond Dallas Page. Page shook off the cobwebs from the impact and looked over his work. He noticed Kimberly and Stamboli had took off and then admired the job he had done with the wreckage. Page laughed as the camera cut back to the ring. (78%) ----- MAIN EVENT PROMO - The Chairman of the Board Mike Tenay entered the ring and took the microphone. He reminded us that earlier in the evening, Shane McMahon had announced he would be concentrating on the other responsibilities that come as being the owner of WCW...so he had put together a committee to act as the Board of Directors for WCW. As stated early, Tenay himself is on the board and there was someone else that Shane had brought in to be a member of the board... It is this man that he and the rest of the Board had voted to be the Chairman of the Board of Directors. It's a man everyone in the back and everyone in this arena tonight is VERY familiar with. Without further adue, Tenay wanted to introduce the Chairman of the WCW Board of Directors... "American Made" hit the PA system and it became clear who the new chairman was.. Hulk Hogan made his way out from the back in a suit and tie to a pop from the crowd. Hogan made his way down to the ring, climbed in and posed for the crowd as Tenay gave appluaded for him. Tenay handed Hogan the microphone and Hogan said that HULKAMANIA WAS BACK, brother. Hogan said ever since he was 'fired' from WCW - he has been enjoying his time off but it killed him inside to watch the company he loved for so many years go down in flames. He wanted to be there to help build it back up again like he did in the 90's. But now that Shane McMahon has taken over, Hogan has been given that exact opportunity. He's here to fix the mistakes of the last few years and bring WCW back on top of the wrestling world! SO WHATCHA GONNA DO WHEN HULK HOGAN AND WCW RUN WILD ON YOU? "American Made" played again as the show began to come to a close. Hogan took off his suit jacket and pulled off his tie before ripping off his dress shirt to flex and pose for the crowd in true Hulk Hogan fashion. The show came to a close with the Chairman posing for the crowd. (90%) OVERALL - 78% -----

WCW Thursday Thunder July 19, 2001 Announcers: Scott Hudson & Don Callis Thunder kicked off with a recap of Nitro that saw Hulk Hogan make his return to WCW as the new Board of Directors. Hudson and Callis discuss the ramifications of this while also hyping up tonight's Thunder card which will feature Goldberg in action in the main event against Tommy Dreamer. Extreme Rules Match Terry Funk vs. Reno A flashback to Bash at the Beach showed just how much of a beating Terry Funk took at the hands of the Extreme Champion - Mike Awesome, but at the end of the match - Funk was wanting more! And even after the beating, Funk was already back in action against Reno. Funk looked a lot better here than he did against Awesome however, as Reno got in limited offense against the legend of Extreme. Reno utilized a chair to try to work over Funk, but eventually the chair would come back to bite Reno as Funk hit him with a drop toe hold onto the chair before finishing Reno off with the Piledriver onto the chair. Funk made the cover and picked up the decisive three count victory. WINNER - Terry Funk by pinfall (62/59/66) After the match, Mike Awesome stormed the ring and attacked Funk from behind after his victory! Awesome set up Funk in a tree of woe and began repeatedly driving the chair into the trapped Funk's midsection before placing it across his face. Awesome ran in from the opposite corner and ran in with a baseball slide to Funk's head. Awesome then pulled Funk out of the corner and laid him out in the middle of the ring with the Awesome Bomb! Mike Awesome left the ring, leaving Funk lying on his back. After the commercial break, we got a video of what happened during the break which revealed Funk shoving aside help from WCW officials and getting up under his own power. Funk headed to the back on his own feet. ----- Parenting Advice From The Prophet "The Prophet" A.J. Styles made his way down to the ring to scattered boos. The cloaked Styles climbed into the ring and threw back his hood before taking the microphone. He introduced himself and asked the crowd to sit and be quiet out of respect as he enlightened 'us' to our sinful nature. Styles talked about the parents in the crowd who brought their children to the show tonight. He asked the parents to reflect on their own parenting skills. He wanted to know how much pressure they put on their children to live up to their own lofty expectations while they themselves are no saint. The same parents who tell their children not to lie are off having illicit affairs. The same parents who tell their kids to eat healthy are stuffing their face with McDonald's Drive through. Styles called them all 'hypocrites' and if they're going to expect their children to be fully functioning members of a society - they needed to set the proper example. You have to lead by example, and that's what Styles is in WCW to do. He welcomes your children as members of his Prophecy. One such 'Disciple' of his Prophecy also had an overbearing shadow being cast down from his family name. But he has cast aside that family name because he was destined to fail if he had to live up to his father's name. So forget what you know about David Flair - because he no longer exists. But he instead wanted to introduce to us the first member of his Prophecy - MIDAS. Midas came down from the back dressed like a luchadore in gold tights and a gold mask. It was obviously David Flair under the mask, but he has been repacked by The Prophet. Tonight, Midas would be making his 'singles debut.' (67%) ----- Midas (w/A.J. Styles) vs. Crowbar Fittingly enough, the man 'Midas' gets to make his 'debut' against was long-time former partner of David Flair's - Crowbar. Crowbar himself seemed to be a likely candidate for Styles' Prophecy, as if there's anyone who needs some guidance it's probably Crowbar. So how would Fla...err...Midas fair in his 'debut'? Well, he may have a new look but it doesn't change the fact that it's still just David Flair under a mask. With his new mentor in his corner, Midas showed promise early as he worked over Crowbar with some knife edge chops and a double underhook suplex. But it was not long before Crowbar battled back against Midas and knocked Midas for a loop with a big headbutt. Crowbar took control of Midas and A.J. Styles just watched on as his first 'Disciple' fell to Crowbar's Mindbender finisher for the three count. WINNER - Crowbar by pinfall (62/59/65) After the match - A.J. Styles took matters into his own hands as he attacked Crowbar from beind. Styles took Crowbar down to the mat and stomped a mudhole into him. Styles lifted Crowbar onto his back and dropped him with a belly to back piledriver. Midas got to his knees, trying to recover from the match - only to have his mento get in his face about the loss. Styles slapped Midas and then hit a Tornado DDT to Midas! Styles left the ring leaving Midas and Crowbar out on the mat. ----- It's Not Over Backstage, Michelle Gold had caught up with Terry Funk after the attack from Mike Awesome. Funk said that no matter what Awesome has thrown at him....he's still standing here. He told Awesome he was going to have to do better than that if he expected to get rid of the Funkster. Terry Funk said he's not done with Awesome yet until Awesome can put Funk down FOR GOOD. Funk said that he would be coming for Awesome's Extreme Title until that day comes...so Awesome, keep bringing the pain because he was ready for ANYTHING. (71%) ----- Four Count??? A pre-recorded video aired as the search for a new member of the band 3 Count wore on. They discussed the surprise of having Cassidy O'Reilly and Joey Matthews show up at Bash at the Beach to help them win their tag match. That certainly seemed to earn them some brownie points with the two remaining members of 3 count. However, as they continued to discuss it - Alex Wright and Norman Smiley walked into the room as Wright continued his campaign to join the group - but now he is suggestined a four-man group would be the way to go. He said his new pal Norman has almost as good of dance moves as he does! Karagias and Moore were beside themselves - "Okay, but then we'd have to be called FOUR Count and that just makes NO sense." Karagias noted. Wright suggested it doesn't HAVE to make sense - as long as they were entertaining! Moore said thanks, but no thanks...but Norman interjected that they hadn't even let him display his Big Wiggle yet. Karagias, desperate to get them out of their hairs, offered them a shot to prove their worth...they would have a tag match tonight and if Smiley and Wright could win that match - then MAYBE they could get themselves an audition next week. Wright and Smiley high fived each other before heading out of the room. (64%) ----- German Chocolate vs. Jindrak & Stasiak (w/Stacy Keibler) So their tryout for a tryout match was against the Gentlemen Club's own Jindrak & Stasiak - who themselves needed a win to get back on track after losing another match to the Filthy Animals at Bash at the Beach. Jindrak and Stasiak were obviously not interested in Wright and Smiley's quest to join 3 Count, and were not interested in playing games as they were completely focused and serious against the comedic duo of Wright and Smiley. So unfortunately it would be limited offense for the German Chocolate team as Stasiak and Jindrak methodically took apart Alex Wright in the ring. There would be one chance for the Gemran Chocolate duo to stage a comeback for the upset as Wright caught Stasiak with a jawbreaker that allowed Wright to get the tag to Smiley. Smiley came in and took out Jindrak with an European uppercut followed by another for Stasiak. A jumping headbutt took Jindrak to the mat again while Stasiak was lifted up with a delay scooped slam by Smiley. But after he laid out Stasiak, Smiley made the mistake of doing his Big Wiggle over Stasiak which allowed Jindrak to attack Smiley from behind! From here it wasn't long before Stasiak and Jindrak executed their spinebuster/dropkick combo known as the Mark of Perfection. Jindrak made the cover and picked up the victory. WINNER - Jindrak & Stasiak by pinfall (70/67/74) ----- Taking Action...LEGAL Action Backstage, Michelle Gold was standing by with Johnny 'The Bull' Stamboli and Kimberly Page. This week on Nitro, Diamond Dallas Page made his return after last being seen after being on the receiving end of a brutal beatdown from Stamboli. Page showed up and nearly literally killed Stamboli with his truck. Stamboli and Kimberly were here tonight to tell Page that his return to WCW will be short...because what he did, or at least tried to do, was a FELONY. They planned to file paperwork because DDP is guilty of attempted manslaughter and it was ALL caught on live television. Kimberly said that DDP didn't have a prayer and that at least he would make a nice prison bride. Stamboli and Kim laughed as he put his arm around Kim and walked off camera. (79%) ----- The Wall vs. Jerry Lynn The Wall was by himself tonight as there was no Mike Sanders in sight. But that didn't matter much as his opponent tonight was the undersize Jerry Lynn. While Lynn certainly was no match for Wall's size and power, he tried to make up for it with his speed. Lynn wasn't going to go down without a fight and he certainly put up one against The Wall - targeting Wall's knees early to try and chop the big man down. But ultimately The Wall's size was just too much for Lynn. Wall overpowered the couragious Lynn and dominated him for the majority of the match. Lynn did an excellent job selling The Wall's offense and making him off to be a beast in the ring. The Wall finished Lynn off with a massive chokeslam to pick up the three count and the win. The Wall by pinfall (74/66/82) ----- 500,000 Reasons Why It's Great to Be Champ The new WCW Cruiserweight Champion - Chavo Guerrero made his way down to the ring with his newly won belt around his waist and the $500,000 briefcase in his hand. He climbed into the ring and thanked Ric Flair for the opportunity and the money - and thanked Shane Helms for losing. And most importantly he thanked himself for being a winner. Chavo began coming up with ideas on how he wanted to spend his $500,000 - first he'll probably just pour it all over his bed and roll around with it...but from there, who knows. Out came Lash LeRoux who wanted to talk to Chavo about his 'cheating' philosophy. LeRoux wanted to know how Cahvo has been able to sleep at night with the way he won that belt and that money. Chavo said that LeRoux was right, he hadn't done much sleeping since winning the title...been out partying and having a bit too much tequila...so most of the time he was just passing out. But like he said, now he's going to be sleeping WITH the money! Chavo patted LeRoux on the shoulder and said LeRoux could join in the fun. He offered LeRoux $100,000 of the money to shut up and just embrace this philosophy. The fact that he has the money and the title prove that it WORKS and it's the only way to go. LeRoux said he didn't want Chavo's dirty money...but he would take that belt off his hands. Chavo said 'fat chance' and claimed that LeRoux wasn't championship material. He said LeRoux was just a face in the crowd - his little 'squeaky clean' reputation just makes him fade into obscurity. Chavo said LeRoux has no personality and no one would pay to see him as a champion. Chavo then began proding LeRoux, as he poked him in the chest with one finger. He asked LeRoux if he's ever even gotten angry before? LeRoux smirked and didn't give in to Chavo's ploy - he told Chavo that he would get a title shot one way or another...he's sure the new Chairman Hulk Hogan would have something to say about it. LeRoux patted Chavo on the shoulder in return before leaving the ring. Chavo was left alone with his belt and briefcase, watching LeRoux leave the ring confidently. After the commercial break, it was revealed by Scott Hudson that LeRoux must've known something we didn't know because it had officially been announced by the Board of Directors that Chavo Guerrero WILL defend the Cruiserweight Title NEXT WEEK against Lash LeRoux right here on Thunder! (64%) ----- MAIN EVENT Tommy Dreamer vs. Goldberg After losing to Sting at Bash at the Beach - Goldberg was on a mission and Tommy Dreamer was the unfortunate individual who must've drew the short straw to face a focused Goldberg directly off a loss. As a result, Goldberg began picking Dreamer apart from the opening bell. Being the resiliant and tough competitor that Dreamer is, he didn't back down from the fight even against Goldberg. Dreamer fought back to his feet and actually worked Goldberg over in the corner. Dreamer managed to pick up a nearfall off a falling neckbreaker to Goldberg, but Goldberg muscled out at two. Dreamer attempted to capitalize with his DDT - but Goldberg countered with a release overhead suplex that sent Dreamer flying through the air. From here it was all Goldberg as he took firm control. After a pumphandle slam, Goldberg began to stalk his competitor. Dreamer stumbled to his feet and Goldberg charged in and hit the SPEAR! Goldberg lifted Dreamer up - JACKHAMMER - One, Two, Three! WINNER - Goldberg by pinfall (79/83/70) WHO'S NEXT? After the match, Goldberg disposed of Dreamer by tossing him to ringside. Goldberg grabbed the microphone and announced that he doesn't take losses too kindly. And he feels sorry for ANYONE that gets in his way from here on out. Goldberg promised to destroy the competition until he was back on top of WCW. And there was NO ONE...and he meant NO ONE who could possibly stop him. He DARED anyone to just try and get in his way....which begs the question...WHO'S NEXT?! Goldberg wasn't going to have to wait long to possibly get his answer. The unmistakable sound of sirens filled the arenas as a video aired on the ThunderVision hinting to the return of Scott Steiner! "HOLLA IF YA HEAR ME" was heard over the PA system as the video hyped up a return for Scott Steiner. Goldberg was left in the ring to end the show watching the video as Scott Hudson hyped up the return: "Is Big Poppa Pump coming back to challenge Goldberg?!" For now, we would have to wait for that answer as the show came to a close with the video for Steiner still rolling. (80%) OVERALL - 67% -----

WCW Tuesday Nitro July 24, 2001 Announcers: Mike Tenay & Glenn Gilberti A flashback to last week revealed the big announcement of the WCW Board of Directors and it's new Chairman - Hulk Hogan. Mike Tenay welcomed us to Nitro and said Hogan would be out shortly to make some announcements from the Board. But later on tonight there was a big title match as Lance Storm would defend the United States/Canadian Heavyweight Title against the returning Diamond Dallas Page. And in case we missed it, Tenay also sent us to a video recap of DDP's return last week which saw him nearly decapitate Johnny Stamboli with his truck - but instead just demolished Stamboli's fancy Mazarati. Stamboli and Kimberly have promised repercussions... But first..we go to the ring to start the show. There's Gonna Be Mayhem! The Chairman of the Board Hulk Hogan made his way down to the ring to a big pop from the crowd. Hogan was once again dressed in a suit, showing he was all business and clearly taking his role as the Chairman very seriously. Hogan entered the ring and took the microphone. He waited for the crowd to die down before he jumped right into the upcoming Pay-Per-View, Mayhem. As announced last week, Booker T will be defending the WCW World Title against Sting. Hogan said that later tonight, those two would sign that contract. But that's not the match he and the Board have been discussing the past week. Hogan announced after he came out as the Chairman of the new Board of Directors, he received a phone call Tuesday night from an old friend who had been itching to get back into the WCW ring. That old friend of his was none other than "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner. At the mention of the Steiner name, The Gentlemen's Club minus Ric Flair made their way down to the ring. Goldberg led the way and climbed into the ring. Goldberg wanted to know about Steiner's return and what was up with that video that played at the end of Thunder. Hogan told Golberg to cool his jets, brother - it just so happened that Goldberg was just the man he wanted to see. Because this concerns him to. Goldberg had been wondering just who would be 'next' - well, come to find out - Scott Steiner will indeed be NEXT for Goldberg...Steiner specifically requested that to be his return match! So that's why Hogan has signed Goldberg vs. Scott Steiner for Mayhem! Goldberg snarled but said that he would be glad to send Steiner back to the hospital just as soon as he gets back to WCW. "VERTEBREAKER!" Shane Helms came down from the back to a decent pop from the crowd. Helms walked down to the ring and joined Hogan and the Gentlemen's Club in the ring. Helms welcomed Hogan back to WCW and hoped that as Chairman of the Board, he was listen to his request. Helms outlined the issues he has with the Gentlemen's Club and how he really just wanted another match with Ric Flair. But since Flair apparently has better things to do and sends his family and lackeys after him instead...he wanted to suggest a match for WCW Mayhem. Curt Hennig tried to interject, but Hogan told Hennig to shut up because he was interested in what 'the kid' had to say. Helms suggested a 6 man tag match at Mayhem...Hennig can bring along Jindrak and Stasiak - and Helms would find himself two partners willing to team with him to take on the Gentlemen's Club. Hogan asked if Helms was sure he wanted to go through with this, as Hennig, Stasiak, and Jindrak seemed pretty cocky after hearing Helms' suggestion. Hennig said Sting and Booker T are a little busy already, she he figured Helms would have trouble finding two people dumb enough to team with him. Helms said he actually already had just the two people in mind...and who knows, maybe you won't have to wait til Mayhem to find out! With that, Helms left the ring to his music once more as Hogan made the match official while also making Steiner/Goldberg official for Mayhem. Mayhem is certainly starting to take shape! (81%) ----- Jindrak & Stasiak vs. Mexico's Most Wanted (w/Stacy Keibler) Keibler and Jindrak/Stasiak stayed out from the opening segment as their match was our opener tonight. The basis behind this match was Juventud and Psicosis were out for some payback after The Gentlemen's Club interrupted their match last week against Wright & Smiley. The speedy cruiserweights took an early advantage as they used their agility and quickness to make quick tags and work over the more powerful Jindrak. Jindrak finally made the tag to Stasiak and together they took out Psicosis with a big double clothesline. This gave Stasiak and Jindrak the opening they were looking for and they took firm control of the match - working over Psicosis until Psicosis countered a powerbomb attempt from Jindrak into a Tornado DDT! Psicosis made the hot tag to Juvi who springboarded in with a dropkick to an incoming Stasiak. Stasiak rolled out of the ring and Juvi went in on the attack to the recovering Jindrak. Juvi got a couple nearfalls before Stasiak attacked Juvi from behind to re-open the door for the duo from the Gentlemen's Club. Jindrak tagged Stasiak back in and a double suplex to Juvi netted them a two count. The heel duo began to become frustrated at their inability to put away MMW for the three count. They became so frustrated that Stacy Keibler distracted the referee as Stasiak slid a chair in to Jindrak! As Jindrak went to KO Juvi with the chair, Shane Helms slid into the ring from behind and pulled the chair from Jindrak! Helms slid out of the ring as Jindrak turned and faced Helms in disbelief. As Billy Silverman got Keibler off the apron, Stasiak was too busy confronting Helms at ringside to notice Juvi rolling up a distracted Jindrak from behind! One, Two, Three! Sneaky victory by Mexico's Most Wanted is a big one as they quickly exit the ring! WINNERS - Mexico's Most Wanted by pinfall (80/71/89) Shane Helms headed back up the ramp with a smirk as Jindrak and Stasiak threw a tantrum in the ring with Keibler trying to calm them down. ----- Double Jeopardy for the Filthy Animals Backstage, Scott Hudson was standing by with Bam Bam Bigelow and Chris Candido along with their valet Tammy Sytch. The team known as Double Jeopardy pulled off a bit of a surprise win in a non-title match last week against the WCW Tag Team Champions - The Filthy Animals. Not surprisingly, the team here was stating that they have basically earned a title shot and deserve one. Tonight, they look to but further emphasis on their argument as Bam Bam Bigelow takes on Rey Mysterio in singles competition. Hulk Hogan walked into the shot and agreed with them that they definitely were impressive last week. But he wanted to see if they are 'for real' or if last week was just a shot in the pan. If Bigelow makes a statement tonight against one-half of the tag champions, then he would sign a match for Mayhem - giving them a shot at the WCW Tag Team Championships. (57%) ----- Rey Mysterio (w/Torrie) vs. Bam Bam Bigelow (w/Tammy Sytch) Only the valets joined the two competitors at ringside, as the partners stayed in the back. Tag team champion Rey Mysterio certainly had his work cut out for him tonight taking on the mountain of a man that is Bam Bam Bigelow. Mysterio started out with the basic strategy of working over Bigelow's knees and legs to try and take the big man down - but it was no use as Bigelow fired back with a clothesline that flipped Mysterio literally head over heels. Bigelow used every bit of his size and weight to his advantage to dominate this half of the tag champions. Bigelow ran in with a running splash to Mysterio in the corner - sandwiching the smaller competitor in the turnbuckles before taking him to the mat with a double underhook backbreaker followed by a another big splash onto the canvas! Bigelow's control would continue until he tried to finish Rey off with a Diving Headbutt, but Rey rolled out of the way. All 380 plus pounds of Bigelow came crashing down to the canvas! The crowd was solidly behind Rey in his David vs. Goliath match as Rey tried to use this as the opening to try and take the match away from Bigelow. Mysterio hit the recovering Bigelow with an enziguri to take him back down to the mat. Rey went for the cover, but only got a two count before Bigelow powered out. A dropkick sent Bigelow into the corner where Rey was able to hit the Bronco Buster to Bigelow! As Bigelow stumbled to his feet, Rey jumped to the ropes and hit a springboard DDT to Bigelow! Mysterio thought he had it, but once again only picked up a two count. As Bigelow pulled himself to his feet, Rey went for a springboard moonsault bodyblock, only to have Bigelow catch him and hit a powerslam to Mysterio! Bigelow took back control of the smaller man...eventually going for a powerbomb - only to have Rey start slamming fists into Bigelow's skull to try and bring Bigelow down! Bigelow staggered and almost fell...but regained his composure and followed through with the power bomb to lay out Mysterio! Bigelow didn't look back from here, finishing Rey off with the Greetings From Asbury Park to pick up the decisive three count victory! WINNER - Bam Bam Bigelow by pinfall (74/70/79) Tammy Sytch climbed into the ring and lifted Bigelow's arm in victory as he placed a boot over the fallen champion. The crowd booed as Tenay announced that this indicated that it would be The Filthy Animals versus Double Jeopardy at Mayhem...and if the tough-as-nails team of Double Jeopardy continues to dominate like this...we could be looking at new champions! ----- Contract Signing Coming back from the break, the ring had been set up with a table in the middle for the contract signing for WCW Mayhem's Main Event. Mike Tenay was standing in the middle of the ring to first introduce the challenger Sting! Sting made his way down to the ring to a huge ovation from the crowd. Sting joined Tenay in the ring and said he was looking forward to the title match and he knew the fans were looking forward to it as well because for once they would get to see a title match that's just pure, clean wrestling without any dirty cheap shots, sneak attacks, interferences, or anything like that. It'll just be two hard-nosed competitors going at it 110% for the most prestigious title in all of wrestling. Once Sting was done addressing the fans, Tenay brought out WCW Champion Booker T who also received a huge pop from the crowd. He still was a little bandaged up from Bash at the Beach, but was at least off his crutch. Booker joined Tenay and Sting in the ring, shaking both men's hands. Booker said it was going to be an honor to defend the title against Sting and was looking forward to putting on a match of the year candidate with the Stinger. Tenay said there was no point in holding things up any longer as it was a pretty straight forward process. Tenay directed their attention to the contract on the table - going over the details of it just being a one-on-one wrestling bout to one fall for the WCW title at WCW Mayhem. Booker glanced it over and said he saw no problems here and put his John Hancock on the paper. Sting glanced it over as well, and just as he was about to ink it.... "WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Ric Flair made his way down to the ring from the back to nothing but boos from the crowd. Flair joined the trio in the ring and took his own microphone. Flair said he was tired of sitting around in the back and watching this man-lovefest in the ring. It made him SICK. Flair wanted to know what he had to do to get his name on that contract instead of Sting's. Tenay reminded Flair that the stipulations from the 'I Quit' match at Bash at the Beach clearly stated Flair could not receive another title shot as long as Booker T was champion. Flair demanded to see the contract, and snatched it off the table. "So," Flair rationalized, "If Sting were to beat Booker T...I could contend for the title again?" Sting confirmed that he, in fact, was NOT Booker T....but Booker said that, no offense to Sting, that wasn't going to happen. Sting fired back with a snarky "We'll see about that" - before telling Flair if he wanted a title shot after he wins the title at Mayhem, he'd have no problem giving him one IF he earned it. Flair seemed to enjoy watching the two 'friends' bicker about their match at Mayhem and also was delighted at the idea of getting another title shot. Flair promised Sting he would do anything in his power to make sure that HE walks out of Mayhem champion and NOT Booker T. Sting sarcastically responded that he greatly appreciated the offer - but surprisingly, he doesn't want Flair or anyone else's help. He doesn't need it. Flair said it wasn't an offer...it was a promise. WOOOOO! Flair headed out of the ring as Booker T shook his head in disgust. Sting told Booker that there's no way he would ever want to win the title any way but cleanly. Sting then put his signature on the contract to make the match official. The two shook hands again to end the segment. (98%) ----- Andrew Martin vs. Shane Douglas Before the match got underway, Tenay and Gilberti treated us to a replay from last week where Lance Storm berated Martin after his loss to Konnan. Storm called Martin a 'disgrace to Canada.' Tenay enlightened us that this week Martin went to Hulk Hogan and the rest of the Board and requested a shot against Lance Storm for the United States Championship to show Storm who the 'real' disgrace is. The board apparently made this match in response - as a contendership match for the United States/Canadian Heavyweight title - with the winner getting a shot at Mayhem against whoever walks out of tonight's main event as champion. Martin looked as focused as he's ever been in the few short month's he's been in WCW as he took it to former US Champion Shane Douglas. Martin was dominant early, but midway through the match Douglas took control after poking Martin in the eye. Douglas continued to use underhanded tactics to keep Martin off his feet. Douglas was unable to keep Martin down for a three count, and soon Martin began to fight his way back into the match. Martin reversed an Irish Whip attempt by Douglas and sent him into the ropes. Off the ropes, Douglas ran into the Big Boot from Martin! Martin was in the driver's seat from here and finished Douglas off with the Pumphandle Slam for the three count! WINNER - Andrew Martin by pinfall (69/71/66) After an impressive victory against Douglas, Tenay suggested that Martin showed he is no 'disgrace' - and has certainly earned himself a shot at the United States title! And hopefully Martin would have enough respect for the title to call it by it's rightful name if he won! ----- Feel the Bang Backstage, Scott Hudson was standing by with the man who returned last week and nearly ran over Johnny Stamboli and also the man who would be defending for the United States/Canadian Heavyweight Title here tonight - Diamond Dallas Page. Hudson welcomed Page back but wanted to know what was going through his mind last week...Page was intense in his promo, much more so than we're used to seeing him - he said that he is just doing what any man out there who had his wife stab him in the back and try to 'replace' him would want to do...maybe he took it too far last week...but he literally wants to seriously hurt Stamboli. The man has taken everything from him and then at Great American Bash, Page was beaten to a bloody pulp as his wife just watched on with sadistic joy. So yeah, he feels like his actions were justified. Stamboli wants to talk about legal ramifications...well he could turn right around and call for assault with a deadly weapon to Stamboli. So Page says just BRING IT to Stamboli. As for tonight, he was going to try and put all that aside so he could focus on adding another US Title reign to his resume. He promised that by the end of the night, Lance Storm would FEEL...THE... BANG! (74%) ----- Crowbar vs. "The Prophet" A.J. Styles (w/Midas) The masked Midas joined Styles at ringside as he made his 'official' WCW in-ring debut against the man who defeated Midas on Thunder - Crowbar. Styles looked very impressive in his 'debut' (we must be overlooking the brief Air Raid tag team from earlier this year) - as he and Crowbar went back and forth for a solid match that showcased a wide variet of Styles' offensive skillset - which seems to be quite the impressive one. Both men picked up several nearfalls in a fast paced matchup, but in the end it was Styles who laid out Crowbar with springboard moonsault DDT to lay out Crowbar in the middle of the ring. Styles climbed to the top turnbuckle and hit one of the more awe-inspiring finishers in WCW as he performed a corkscrew moonsault into a senton bomb in a move dubbed the Spiral Tap by Mike Tenay! Styles made the cover and picked up a three count victory! WINNER - A.J. Styles by pinfall (75/59/92) Join the Prophecy After the match, A.J. Styles took the microphone as Midas joined him in the ring. Styles helped Crowbar to his feet and shook his hand, telling him he put on a great match. Styles told Crowbar he was very impressed with his in-ring skill and was confused to see Crowbar hasn't found more success in WCW than he has. Styles asked Crowbar if he wanted to succeed. Crowbar grabbed a handful of his own hair as he slowly shook his head positively. Styles said Crowbar was deeply disturbed...he wanted to know what made Crowbar the way he is. Where in his life did Crowbar lose his way? Styles questioned Crowbar, but Crowbar did not answer...he remained completely silent. Styles told Crowbar that he could help him. He could be a part of his Prophecy and he promised that crowbar would find the success that matches his talent. As Crowbar continued to claw at his own hair, he seemd to be mulling over the offer in his own strange way...but as he did Sean O'Haire walked out from the back and climbed into the ring. O'Haire took the microphone and told Styles to leave Crowbar alone - he knows exactly the kind of person Styles is and said that Crowbar wants nothing to do with him or his so-called Prophecy. He suggested Styles leave the ring before he 'lost his cool' - and trust him, you won't like him when he loses his cool. Styles calmly responded to O'Haire, saying he didn't mean to offend anyone. He's just here to help. He said Crowbar was free to make his own choices, but he still wants Crowbar to think about his offer. Styles and Midas left the ring without any altercation as O'Haire helped the kneeling Crowbar to his feet. (63%) ----- MAIN EVENT - United States/Canadian Heavyweight Title Match Lance Storm (c) vs. Diamond Dallas Page As Page looked to pick up his third US Championship, Storm was looking to extend his own reign. Page seemed to be having a hard time focusing on the title match, which could be expected given his current situation. As a result, after a brief back and forth in the early goings - Lance Storm took control of the match and grounded the distracted Page and worked over his legs for most of the match. Storm even went ahead and trapped Page in the Canadian Maple Leaf, but Page used the crowd's energy to force his way to the ropes to break up the hold. Storm released the hold at the 5 count and went right back to work on Page, not letting up for one second. Storm continued on the offensive and picked up a nearfall off of a Northern Light Suplex to Page. Page finally started to fight back after he ducked a leg lariat attempt from Storm. Storm was slow to his feet and Page met him with right and left jabs before taking Storm to the mat with a side slam. DDP hooked the far leg but only got a two count. Page continued to find some offense - picking up nearfalls off of a swinging neckbreaker and a gutwrench gutbuster. Page continued to steadily work over Storm until he laid out Storm with a spinning powerbomb. Page threw up his hands and signaled for the DIAMOND CUTTER! Page stalked Storm as he began to stagger to his feet..... "Oh Dallas...." Kimberly Page was heard over the PA System as she and Johnny Stamboli walked out from the back arm in arm. This caught Page's attention. "Sorry, didn't mean to interrupt your little title match...but you didn't really just think you could get away with attempted murder, did you?" The distraction was enough for Storm to roll up Page! One, Two, Three! WINNER - Lance Storm by pinfall (78/79/79) Storm rolled out of the ring and took his title to the back as Page got up to his feet. Page had his hands on his hips in frustration as Johnny Stamboli took the microphone. He told Page that his little stunt last week was a felony and that he's always respected the law....so with that in mind... A group of four police officers walked from the back and passed by Stamboli and Kimberly heading to the ring. "Diamond Dallas Page, you are under arrest!" Stamboli laughed as the cops entered the ring and restrained Page, who just smirked and shook his head as he had his arms pulled behind his back and handcuffed. The cops pushed Page out of the ring and up the ramp, but not before stopping by Stamboli and Kimberly who were mocking Page. Page spit right at both of them, which resulted in one of the cops jabbing Page in the midsection with a nightstick. Nitro went off the air as Page was escorted backstage by the police while Stamboli and Kimberly celebrated at the top of the ramp. (80%) OVERALL - 75% ---------

WCW Thursday Thunder July 26, 2001 Announcers: Scott Hudson & Don Callis The show kicked off with a package highlighting the events of Nitro as Hulk Hogan signed Scott Steiner's return match against none other than Goldberg while Shane Helms will find himself two partners to take on the Gentlemen's Club's Curt Hennig, Mark Jindrak, and Shawn Stasiak. Scott Hudson & Don Callis welcomed us to the show and hyped up tonight's main event which would put Shane Helms against one of his opponents at WCW Mayhem - Curt Hennig. Also tonight, we would see some cruiserweight action and some Extreme Division action. Also tonight, we have a video from Mike Tenay who visited Diamond Dallas Page yesterday in an interview from jail! But we start tonight off with a title match! WCW Cruiserweight Title Match Chavo Guerrero (c) vs. Lash LeRoux Chavo came down to the ring with his title and his briefcase full of money that he won from defeating Shane Helms at Bash at the Beach. Tonight would be his first title defense as champion and he would be taking on his old friend Lash LeRoux. The match was back and forth but not on par with some of the recent cruiserweight matches as LeRoux just doesn't match up to the speed and efficiency that most in the division have. But Chavo slowed his pace down to match LeRoux's style and still put on a decent match with the Ragin' Cajun. LeRoux stayed true to his clean cut ways as he wrestled a clean match against Chavo and picked up a few nearfalls along the way. However when he picked Chavo up for the Whiplash, Chavo broke free and slid down LeRoux's back and rolled him up into a cradling pinfall attempt - but LeRoux kicked out. Chavo would end up tossing LeRoux towards referee Billy Silverman - LeRoux stopped himself from colliding with the ref, but in the confusion - Chavo hit a low blow to LeRoux as Silverman regained his composure from the shock of almost going head on with a WCW star. LeRoux was doubled over, allowing Chavo to lay him out with the brainbuster before climbing to the top turnbuckle and finishing LeRoux off with the Frog Splash for the three count! WINNER - Chavo Guerrero by pinfall (67/67/83) - Cruiserweight title has lost image Chavo Guerrero celebrated in the ring with his cruiserweight title in one hand and his $500,000 briefcase in the other. ----- The Auditions are Heating Up! Backstage, Shanon Moore and Evan Karagias were with Cassidy O'Reilly and Joey Matthews. They informed the duo that they had been chosen as finalists for the new member of 3 Count. Matthews and Reilly were both excited, but another duo was not as exicted. Alex Wright and Norman Smiley interrupted the joy and wanted to know why they were excluded. Norman Smiley said that this was RACISM. Karagias and Moore looked on nervously and said it was obvious they didn't pick him because he's...British. Alex Wright agreed and said Karagias and Moore obviously have something against European Megastars such as themselves. Wright and Smiley then simultaneously demonstrated their dance moves for Karagias and Moore. Feeling confident in their two finalists, Karagias decided to put Smiley and Wright in their place - he said that if Wright and Smiley were able to defeat their two finalists tonight - they will compete next week in the SEMI-FINALS for the final spot in 3 count. But if they don't win, no more begging and pleading - it's over and done with. Wright said he could respect those terms. Wright and Smiley, excited about their opportunity, danced their way off screen as Karagias and Moore became firm with O'Reilly and Matthews - telling them if they don't win tonight - there would be serious consiquences. (74%) ----- German Chocolate vs. Cassidy O'Reilly & Joey Matthews The 'European Megastars' - German Chocolate had one last chance to prove themselves to the existing members of 3 count as they battled the cookie cutter teen idol image of Joey Matthews and the more 80's glam-rock persona of Cassidy O'Reilly. Reilly and Matthews had issues the entire match with communication as both men wanted to show their worth to Karagias and Moore who were watching on at ringside. Both men took turns working over Norman Smiley, but neither man wanted to tag the other in for fear of the other one outshining. This led to a heated arguement between the two which allowed Smiley to make the tag to Alex Wright! Wright entered the ring and took out Matthews with a back suplex and then a spinning heel kick to O'Reilly. Matthews stumbled back to his feet into a scoop powerslam from Wright. O'Reilly leaped onto Wright's back, but Wright snapmared him to the mat. O'Reilly stumbled back to his feet and he tried to double team Wright with Matthews - but Norman Smiley caught Matthews from behind with the Norman Conquest! O'Reilly went for a clothesline to Wright, but Wright ducked and hit the Hangman's Neckbreaker to O'Reilly! Wright with the cover on Cassidy - One, Two, Three! WINNERS - German Chocolate by pinfall (62/58/81) Alex Wright and Norman Smiley celebrate like they just won the tag titles while Evan Karagias and Shannon Moore watch with disgust from ringside. ----- Hugh Morrus & Dustin Rhodes vs. The Harris Boys In the pure definition of filler match, Hugh Morrus teamed up Dustin Rhodes to take on the rarely seen Harris Boys in what was not nearly as bad a match as you might imagine. The twin powerhouses Don and Ron Harris spent most of the match working over Dustin Rhodes and using illegal switches behind referee Mark Johnson's back. Dustin Rhodes would eventually duck a double colthesline attempt from the bald brothers and take them down with a double clothesline of his own. Rhodes tagged in the fresh Hugh Morrus who came in guns a blazin' to take out both members of the Harris Boys. Ron...Or Don..who knows, was sent out of the ring with a clothesline from Morrus. The other Harris Boy attacked Morrus from behind, but Rhodes made the save and laid him out with a bulldog! With Harris laid out, Morrus climbed to the top turnbuckle and executed the No Laughing Matter to pick up the win for his team! WINNERS - Hugh Morrus & Dustin Rhodes (60/61/73) ------ Up Against The Wall Jimmy Hart led WCW Extreme Champion Mike Awesome down to the ring to scattered boos. Hart took the microphone and brought up Terry Funk's attempts at getting another match with Mike Awesome. Hart said he doesn't care how many times Funk 'gets back up' - because he already was pinned One, Two, Three decisively against the champion and he doesn't understand why Funk believes just because he's so stupid to keep getting back up for more pain and punishment that he deserves another title shot. But, if Funk likes to relegate himself to so much torture - he has a match for him tonight. Hart has found someone who likes to deliver as much pain and punishment as even Mike Awesome...if Funk wants a match, he has one...against...The Wall! (63%) ----- Extreme Rules The Wall vs. Terry Funk Mike Awesome & Jimmy Hart stayed at ringside to watch the match as The Wall dominated the Funkster early on - not even having to resort to any weapons - he just pounded Funk to the mat and kept him there...but as per usual with Funk - he kept getting back up for more. The Wall climbed out of the ring after laying out Funk with a military press slam and pulled a table out from under the ring. He set the table up at ringside, while looking over to Hart and Awesome. Hart gave Wall support while Awesome and Wall just stared each other down. This momentary distraction had given Funk time to recover, and Funk showed just how nimble he is for an old man as he hit a suicide dive out to The Wall! Both men crashed into the ring barrier! Funk was up first and grabbed a chair to slow The wall's progress as he was recovering by smacking the chair across his back. The Wall only stumbled before Funk connected with the chair to his head. The Wall fell to a knee...and Funk decided to turn his attention to Mike Awesome - throwing the chair right at an unsuspecting Awesome. The Chair hit Awesome in the face which sent Awesome stumbling backwards! A ticked off Awesome recovered and attacked Funk from behind! Awesome threw Funk into the ring steps and then rolled him onto the apron. Awesome climbed onto the apron and began setting up Funk for an Awesome Bomb through the table at ringside...but The Wall stopped that as he joined them on the apron. Wall apparantly did not appreciate or want Awesome's help...so Wall grabbed Awesome and CHOKESLAMMED AWESOME THROUGH THE TABLE! Jimmy Hart was livid as Wall tossed Funk back into the ring and finished him off with a CHOKESLAM in the center of the ring for the three count! WINNER - The Wall by pinfall (62/64/74) A dominant Wall stood victorious in the ring, planting a foot on the fallen Funk while Jimmy Hart tried to help his champion up from the split table. ----- Hennig's Nightmare on Helm's Street Backstage, Michelle Gold was standing by with Former Cruiserweight Champion Shane Helms who would later on take on Curt Hennig of the Gentlemen's Club in tonight's main event. Gold wanted to pry some info out of Helms on who his two tag partners would be - but Helms said he wasn't going to let us in on any secrets tonight - but he promised that his partners have a proven track record of winning in WCW and are multiple time champions! Helms said he knows he has found a winning combination to defeat the Gentlemen's Club. Tonight, Helms was looking forward to getting a match with an actual member of the Gentlemen's Club - he promised that tonight would be a NIGHTMARE for Curt Hennig. (73%) ----- Juventud Guerrera vs. David Young As the match got underway, Scott Hudson and Don Callis discussed the current state of the Cruiserweight Division. After Chavo's win against Lash LeRoux tonight, there was no clear number one contender for the Cruiserweight Title. They suggested Juvi certainly has the resume to be a contender - and after this dominating performance over relative unknown David Young, Juvi could put a claim to just that. Young got in very, very limited offense against the veteran cruiserweight and Juvi finished him off with a JuviDriver followed by the Juicy Elbow which got a decent reaction from the crowd. WINNER - Juventud Guerrera by pinfall (63/56/84) Cruiserweight Mayhem After the match, Juvi took the microphone and did his "FINALLY, THE JUICE..." shtick which got a decent pop from the crowd. Juvi explained that while he enjoys teaming with his Mexican brother as Mexico's Most Wanted - he still has his eyes on the prize of the WCW Cruiserweight Title. This brought out "Primetime" Elix Skipper who entered the ring and said that if anyone was going to stake a claim in getting a shot at the WCW Cruiserweight Title - IT WAS HIM! It was PRIME TIME for PRIMETIME to be back on top! And he was tired of him not getting what he deserved. "Boy, I'll give ya what ya deserve!" Jamie Noble said as he walked from the back with a microphone in hand. Noble walked down to the ring and explained that what Skipper needed was a good ole' fashion Southern ass-whoopin and he would be more than happy to be the one who gave it to him and HE would be glad to get himself a title shot! "Not so fast," Leia Meow said as she brought Kaz Hayashi down to the ring. She explained that her man was more man than anyone in this ring and if anyone deserved to be champion - it was HIM! Juvi, Skipper, Noble, and Meow all began talking at once, arguing their case when Kash ran from the back and slid into the ring. Kash snatched the microphone from Meow and said that everyone can talk all they want, but is anyone going to DO anything about it? Kash said...HE WAS! Kash turned and smashed Noble across the face with the microphone! This started a maylay as all five men started going at it. Juvi's partner Psicosis ran down to the ring to join in and help his partner. It was a six man brawl between the cruiserweights that went on briefly before WCW officials stormed the ring to break it up. (67%) ----- Jail House Rock In a pre-recorded interview, Mike Tenay had the chance to talk to Diamond Dallas Page from across the glass in jail. Tenay asked Page what his plan was from here. Page said he's never had a plan - all his life he has been simply wingin' it. And that's what he was going to do this time...just wing it. He doesn't know what happens next - but he does now just as soon as he gets out of there, he would be right back at Stamboli's throat. If Stamboli and Kim think they can get rid of him this way - they have another thing comin'....in fact, they both might just have a Diamond Cutter coming their way. Tenay was unable to continue the interview as a guard came by and told Page he had 'another visitor.' Page smiled and thanked Tenay for visiting, but he may have a plan after all.... (73%) ----- MAIN EVENT Shane Helms vs. Curt Hennig (w/Stacy Keibler) The Vertebreaker Girls danced on the stage to send Helms down to the ring - but in the ring it was all business as Helms had something to prove against The Gentlemen's Club after Flair had spent so much time and effort in making Helms suffer the taste of defeat. Helms went toe-to-toe with Hennig from the opening bell, but Hennig quickly took control of the smaller Helms and wrestled him down to the mat. Hennig's strategy was to keep the quicker Helms on the mat to handicap him from his strengths. Hennig kept Helms down with some restholds that started to make the crowd grow ancy. Finally the crowd began to get back into the match to try and drive Helms into some sort of offense. Hennig went for a back suplex to Helms, but Helms backflipped through and landed on his feet. Helms took Hennig to the mat with a sleeper sitout slam. Helms hooked the leg and went for the pin - One, Two, kickout by Hennig! Helms continued to find the willpower to remain on offense as he got a few more nearfalls off of a northern lights suplex and a single knee facebreaker to Hennig, but Hennig kicked out of each attempt. Helms was firmly in control of his opponent, and seemed to be on his way to victory after laying out Hennig with the topspin facebuster as he signaled it was time for the Nightmare On Helms Street! But Stacy Keibler climbed onto the apron, distracting both Charles Robinson and Helms as Mark Jindrak and Shawn Stasiak came from the back and slid into the ring. They attacked Helms from behind and laid him out with the Mark of Perfection! The climbed out of the ring as Keibler smiled and got down off the apron. Hennig recovered and pulled Helms up...HENNIGPLEX - One, Two, Three! WINNER - Curt Hennig by pinfall via interference (72/82/81) After the match, Stasiak and Jindrak climbed back into the ring and they each grabbed one of Helms' arms as they pulled him up as Hennig berated Helms right in his face. Hennig then gave Helms a stiff open handed slap across the face before Jindrak and Stasiak threw Helms face first to the mat. The Gentlemen's Club trio along with Stacy Keibler celebrated in the ring to close out the show. OVERALL - 64% ---------

WCW Tuesday Nitro July 31, 2001 Announcers: Mike Tenay & Glenn Gilberti Welcome to WCW Tuesday Nitro! Tenay and Gilberti were our usual hosts and they immediately hyped up the 'HUGE' main event tonight that will put challenger and champion for WCW Mayhem together as WCW World Champion Booker T will team with his challenger at Mayhem, Sting to take on their common enemy - The Gentlemen's Club - more specifically, Ric Flair and Goldberg! But first... Above the Law To kick the show off, the duo of Johnny 'The Bull' Stamboli and Kimberly Page made their way down to the ring to loud boos from the crowd. Stamboli sauntered down to the ring with Kimberly by his side. He held the ropes open for her as she bent over and stepped in, making eye contact with Stamboli and looking seductively at him. They climbed into the ring and Stamboli took the microphone. Stamboli gloated about having Diamond Dallas Page arrested last week. He claimed justice was served because believe it or not, Page is not above the law...and while he has had some issues with the police in the past - he must commend them on the job they did taking in DDP. Kimberly took the microphone next as a "SLUT" chant broke out amongst the crowd. A furious Stamboli tried to quiet them to no avail. Kimberly said they could say what they want, because they don't know the whole story...they only believe what their 'hero' DDP says. She said that Page has deserved to be in jail for a long time with the way he treated her...and it was about damn time some justice was done. She hoped her rotted away in jail for the rest of his life. "American Made" hit the PA System bringing out the Chairman of the Board Hulk Hogan! The crowd gave the Chairman a huge pop as he made his way down to the ring in his business suit. Hogan climbed into the ring and addressed the duo - saying he wasn't out here to act like Dusty Rhodes and shake his finger at them to tell them what they're doing is wrong - because regardless of how he feels, it won't change what they do. But Hogan did say if they even THINK about TRYING to do what they did to Dusty Rhodes, then Page might just have a cellmate! Hogan said that this little domestic disturbance has gone a bit too far. He'll admit Page stepped over the line with trying to run Stamboli down in his car...but he's been there, he knows what Page is thinking..to hate someone that much. So he's out here tonight to try and talk some sense into Stamboli. He said there was no reason to bring the law into this...this is WCW, we handle our business IN THE RING! Stamboli said this goes beyond the ring and if someone trys to run him down, he's going to press charges. Hogan asked if Stamboli was afraid to get in the ring with DDP. Stamboli said he wasn't afraid of "nothin'." Good to know - Hogan said. Because before Nitro started he signed a match for Mayhem...and it will put Johnny Stamboli in the ring one-on-one with Diamond Dallas Page! And if Page wins, Stamboli will have to drop the charges...and if Stamboli wins, Page can go right back to jail. Stamboli said he couldn't do that...that's not the law. Hogan said that Page may not be above the law, but he's Hulk Hogan and he IS! "American Made" hit the PA system once again as Hogan left the ring leaving Stamboli and Kim fuming in the ring. 90% ----- Shane Helms vs. Mark Jindrak (w/Stacy Keibler) A replay from Thunder showed Helms coming up short in his singles match against Curt Hennig after Jindrak & Stasiak intefered to help Hennig pick up the win. Tonight, Helms returned to singles action once again to take one another member of the Gentlemen's Club - Mark Jindrak who was accompanied just by Stacy Keibler, but Helms knew from experience that just beyond those curtains any member of the Gentlemen's Club could be waiting. Helms started out strong against Jindrak - using his speed to out manuever Jindrak and picked up some quick nearfalls. But when Helms charged into the corner for a clothesline, Jindrak got his boot up and slowed Helms down. Jindrak took control, muscling Helms to the mat and took control by grounding the high flying Helms. Jindrak kept Helms on the mat and really grounded him with a chinlock...but eventually Helms would fight his way free and catch Jindrak almost out of nowhere with a Shining Wizard. Helms suddenly was back in control and after the Sugarsmack, Helms made the cover again for a very close two count. Helms looked to be on his way to certain victory as he was going to attempt to lift the larger Jindrak up for the Vertebreaker - but Shawn Stasiak and Curt Hennig slid into the ring and attacked Helms right in front of referee Billy Silverman! Stasiak and Hennig took Helms to the mat and were stomping away as the ref called for the bell. WINNER - Shane Helms by disqualification (67/71/80) It became a three on one as Hennig, Jindrak, and Stasiak worked over Helms. Hennig laid out Helms with the HennigPlex again before the trio felt like the enough punishment was done. The three lifted their arms in celebration as Helms was left needing assistance to get from the ring. ----- Wait No Longer...Well Another Week After the break, Scott Hudson greeted a wounded Shane Helms as he came through the curtains with the assist of a couple WCW officials. Hudson wanted to know if Helms was okay - he said "never been better" as he winced in pain. Helms said that they may have the numbers for now...but not after he brings his guys in. In fact, why wait until Mayhem...next week, here on Nitro...he will reveal his two partners for the world and The Gentlemen's Club to see! (81%) ----- Konnan vs. Crowbar As the match got underway, we were reminded of "The Prophet" A.J. Styles and his attempt last week to bring Crowbar in to "The Prophecy" just as he had brought in David Flair. But for now, Crowbar is still Crowbar and he's in singles action against Konnan. Crowbar looked impressive early against Konnan, apparently catching the Mexican star off guard as it was all Crowbar early until Konnan snuck in a thumb to Crowbar's eye to take control. Konnan kept the dangerous Crowbar down on the mat and tried to make him tap to an armbar and an Indian deathlock - but Crowbar didn't seem to mind the holds one bit. A confused Konnan went back on the attack as A.J. Styles and Midas made their way down to the ring. They watched as Konnan went for his Rolling Thunder Lariat, only to have Crowbar ducked it and hit a dropkick to Konnan! After a belly to back suplex - Crowbar picked up a two count. Crowbar's offense lasted until he went for a moonsault only to have Konnan roll out of the way! With Crowbar down, Konnan looked to take advantage as he locked in the Tequila Sunrise! But when he did A.J. Styles climbed into the apron, catching Konnan's attention. Konnan dropped Crowbar and got in Styles face as Crowbar started to recover. Styles smirked and jumped back down off the apron...a confused Konnan turned around and walked into a small package cradle from Crowbar - One, Two, Three! WINNER - Crowbar by pinfall by interference (63/69/73) A frustrated Konnan left the ring as A.J. Styles and Midas climbed into the ring. Styles took the microphone and began talking to Crowbar once again about what he's capable of. He said this proves Crowbar is capable of so much...he just beat Konnan who is a huge star in Mexico and a former champion here in WCW. He said that whatever is going on inside Crowbar's head that is holding him back...it's keeping him from being a huge star here in WCW. Styles just wants to find out what's going on inside his head and let it free. He just wants to set Crowbar free to be a star. Much like last week, Sean O'Haire walked down to the ring to and climbed in. He told Styles that he was losing what little patience he has...he could feel his blood startling to boil. He told him last week to leave Crowbar alone and stop trying to get inside his head to be a part of his little 'cult' he's trying to form. O'Haire stared at Crowbar and told him to not listen to the lies...he told Crowbar that he just wanted to make him believe what you want to believe. Styles said he didn't disagree with what O'Haire had to say. He said it is Crowbar who needs to believe...believe in HIMSELF! Let go of whatever happened in the past that has scarred his life. O'Haire said Styles was going to have some scars if he didn't leave the ring right now. As O'Haire was getting in Styles' face - Crowbar took the microphone from O'Haire. Crowbar said that it was okay...he said he had somethinkg in to do. Crowbar reached down and gently put the microphone on the mat before leaving the ring and heading up the aisle by himself. A confused O'Haire was left alone in the ring after a smiling Styles left the ring with Midas. (67%) ----- Johnny 'The Bull' Stamboli (w/Kimberly Page) vs. Andrew Martin Before the match got underway WCW 'Canadian Heavyweight' Champion Lance Storm came down to the rign and joined Tenay and Gilberti at the announce booth so he could watch his challenger in action. Martin looked strong early, much to the dismay of Storm at ringside - but Storm said that Martin always wastes all his energy out early...just watch and he'll show why he's no true Canadian. A true Canadian has the endurance to dominant the whole match. Sure enough, soon Stamboli took control though it took some assistance from Kimberly at ringside. Stamboli worked Martin over with several jabs and martial arts style kicks before sending him into the ropes and hitting an impressive leg lariat to Martin. Stamboli continued to showcase his fancy footwork as he controled Martin - but was unable to put him away. Martin finally began to to fight back as he found his second wind. Martin sent Stamboli into the corner and threw in several back elbows to the cornered Stamboli before setting him on the top turnbuckle. Martin went for a superplex, but Stamboli shoved Martin off to the mat! Stamboli flew off looking for the Diving Legdrop, but Martin rolled out of the way! Both men staggered to their feet where Martin kneed Stamboli in the midsection and set him up for the Pumphandle Slam, but Stamboli slid down Martin's back and hit a German Suplex! Stamboli slowly pulled himself up to his feet when he heard... "SELF HIGH FIVE!" Page's music played and a bewildered Stamboli once again was surprised, and looked around frantically for his nemesis. Realizing it was just another ruse...he turned around only to be hit with a Big Boot from Martin! Stamboli hit the mat and Martin made the cover - One, Two, Three! Storm called the way Martin won a disgrace. No true Canadian would accept a victory in that manner. WINNER - Andrew Martin by pinfall (66/71/77) Martin left the ring victorious as Kimberly entered the ring and tried to help her man to his feet. "SELF HIGH FIVE" DDP's music played again! Kimberly began looking around the arena and telling Stamboli to hurry up and get to his feet. The crowd suddenly grew much louder as Diamond Dallas Page emerged from the crowd! He hurdled the ring barrier and slid into the ring...DIAMOND CUTTER to Stamboli! Kimberly left the ring as Page climbed the turnbuckles and threw up the Diamond Cutter sign to a big pop from the crowd. Page rolled out of the ring, leaving Stamboli lying on the mat as Kimberly looked on with concern from ringside. Page blew his estranged wife a kiss as we headed to the break. ----- Posting Bail Backstage after the break, Diamond Dallas Page returned from the ring and met with Chris Kanyon. The two high fived and Page thanked Kanyon again for making his bail. Kanyon said it was no problem at all, he was his 'boy' and he couldn't leave Page high and dry in the slammer. Page wanted to know how Kanyon came up with that money...Kanyon avoided the question - telling Page not worry about it. He said that Page should just remember to return the favor one day. "You got it," Page said as he gave his old friend a pat on the back before walking off. Kanyon looked slightly nervous once Page had walked off.... (78%) ----- Big Poppa Pump Is Ya Hook Up... A video promoting the return of Scott Steiner to WCW aired that highlighted some of the big moments in Steiner's career. Tonight's main highlight is from April 1999 when Scott Steiner defeated Booker T to become the WCW United States Champion. Scott Steiner makes his return to WCW at Mayhem against Goldberg! (85%) ----- Six Man Tag Match Mexico's Most Wanted & Jamie Noble vs. "Primetime" Elix Skipper, Kash & Kaz Hayashi All six of these men are part of the first ever 'Cruiserweight Mayhem' match at WCW Mayhem. Basically the match will feature all six man in the ring at once and it's under elimination rules. The sole survivor will earn himself a shot at the WCW Cruiserweight title. But tonight it wasn't all about every man for himself as they were put onto teams as a bit of a preview of what's to come. The match itself was fast paced and hard to keep up with who was legal and who was not as most of the match was actually spent with all six men going at it. At one point everyone except Skipper were on the outside of the ring, and Elix Skipper climbed the turnbuckle and came out onto all five men with a corkscrew plancha! Eventually the fight found it's way back to the ring where things continued to be pretty chaotic. Near the end, everyone started to hit or atleast attempt their finishers. Kayashi lifted up Psicosis for a brainbuster, but Psicosis reversed it into a tornado DDT. Psicosis stumbled to his feet only to have Elix Skipper attack him and lay him out with the Play of the Day! But just as soon as Skipper was to his feet, Jamie Noble came at Skipper with a high knee and then hit his jumping tombstone piledriver to Skipper! Noble couldn't capitalize as Kash attacked him from behind and hit him with the Money Maker double underhook piledriver! Kash made the cover - One, Two, ...Juvi pulled Kash off of Noble...he lifted Noble up, JUVIDRIVER! Off the ropes...JUICY ELBOW! Juvi with the cover - One, Two, Three! WINNERS - Mexico's Most Wanted & Jamie Noble by pinfall (68/64/88) ----- Staying Filthy Backstage, Scott Hudson was standing by with the WCW Tag Team Champions - The Filthy Animals. Hudson wanted their thoughts on the fact that the past two weeks we had seem them bested by the duo of Bam Bam Bigelow and Chris Candido. Rey spoke up saying that there's no doubt that these guys are tough...and yeah, they got the best of them the past two weeks...but the Filthy Animals bring it when they have to bring it, and at WCW Mayhem, it won't happen again. Because they're tough, but they're going to be tougher. They are man enough to admit a loss when there's a loss...but they are also smart enough to learn from their mistakes and not let it happen again. Rey promised that the tag titles will be staying FILTHY. (78%) ----- MAIN EVENT Booker T & Sting vs. Ric Flair & Goldberg Despite being champion and challenger at WCW Mayhem - Booker T and Sting have a great deal of respect for each other and worked together as a cohesive unit for most of the match against their bitter rivals, Flair and Goldberg. Sting started the match out against Flair and the two went back and forth until Sting took the upper hand. Sting tagged in Booker T who picked up where Sting left off. Booker T and Sting continued to work well together, tagging in and out and taking it to the former 17 time WCW Champion. A low blow behind Nick Patrick's back slowed Booker T down and allowed Flair to tag in Goldberg. Goldberg began working over the champ, locking him in a leg lock to try and put pressure on the leg that Flair had worked so extensively on at Bash at the Beach. Sting entered the ring and broke up the submission and was immediately sent back to the corner by Nick Patrick. This allowed Flair to enter the ring and join Goldberg in putting the boots to Booker T. Booker T continued to have the punishment dished out to him by Goldberg and Flair as the duo took turns dishing out the offense. With Flair back in the ring, he sent Booker off the ropes and went for a backdrop, but Booker saw it coming and met Flair with a boot to the face! Booker then took out Flair with a bicycle kick that sent both men to the ground. But Booker T used the spinaroonie to get back to his feet and make the tag to Sting! In came Sting like a house of fire - taking the beating to Flair. Flair tried to get to Goldberg, but Sting cut him off and slammed him back to the mat. Sting continued on the attack, sending Flair into the corner for a STINGER SPLASH. Sting then whipped Flair into the opposite corner which happened to be the same corner Booker T was in. Sting charged in for another Stinger Splash, but Flair moved out of the way and Sting accidentally collided with Booker on the apron! Booker fell to the floor and Flair hit a chopblock to Sting! FLair tagged in Goldberg who went on the attack to Sting with Flair. An upset Booker slid into the ring and went to hit the Harlem Sidekick to Flair, but Flair ducked and Booker hit Sting! With all the miscommunication going on, Goldberg took out Booker with his own sidekick before getting into stance as Sting started to get to his feet. SPEAR to Sting! Goldberg lifted Sting up...JACHAMMER - One, Two, Three! WINNERS - Ric Flair & Goldberg by pinfall (77/94/69) The crowd gave Flair and Goldberg loud boos as they celebrated their victory and left the ring. As the dust settled in the ring, Booker T extended his hand to help Sting up...but Sting slapped Booker T's arm away and got up on his own power. Sting started to leave the ring, but Booker grabbed Sting's arm and stopped him. The two went nose to nose as the show came to a close. OVERALL - 74% ---------

WCW Thursday Thunder August 2, 2001 Announcers: Scott Hudson & Don Callis The standard Thunder opening video kicked the show off as Hudson & Callis welcomed us to the show and announced they had a 'great' show for us tonight, including a WCW Extreme Title match between Mike Awesome and Terry Funk! Also tonight, we would see some exciting Cruiserweight action as we grew closer to the WCW Cruiserweight Mayhem match at WCW Mayhem! Billy Kidman (w/Torrie Wilson) vs. Chris Candido (w/Tammy Lynn Sytch) But kicking the show off was another singles match between one half of the tag team champions and one half of the tag team challengers as Kidman of the Filthy Animals took on Chris Candido of Double Jeopardy. The champions have found themselves in the rare position of being outmatched recently as Double Jeopardy has picked them apart so far in each contest. Tonight was a more level playing field as Kidman and Candido matched up well with one another as opposed to the Mysterio/Bigelow David vs. Goliath matchup from last week. Candido tried to keep the high flying Kidman grounded to the match, but an attempt of a powerbomb once again proved futile against Kidman as he reversed it into a facebuster. Tammy Sytch tried to get involved, but Torrie quickly put a stop to that, pulling Tammy off the apron and mounting her and laying him slaps to the valet of the challengers! Back in the ring, Kidman put it on cruise control and wrapped up the match with the Kid Krusher! Kidman picked up the much needed victory for the champions! WINNER - Billy Kidman by pinfall (70/57/83) ----- The 3-Count Semi-Finals Shannon Moore and Evan Karagias made their way down to the ring and addressed the crowd with an update on the ongoing 3 Count auditions. Karagias revealed that NEXT WEEk on Thunder we would find out who the newest member of 3 count would be! Tonight - the audition's semi-finals would be underway in tournament form...Norman Smiley would be taking on Joey Matthews while Alex Wright would be taking on Cassidy O'Reilly. The two winners would meet next week to determine the third member of 3 Count! (59%) ----- Norman Smiley vs. Joey Matthews Karagias and Moore stayed at ringside to watch the semi-finals get underway. This would be a short and sweet match that went back and forth early before Smiley started to get the upperhand. Smiley would manage to hit his trademark offense along with the scoop powerslam followed but the Big Wiggle dance...but when Smiley went for the Norman Conquest, Matthews quickly escaped and grabbed the ropes for safety. Smiley went in at Matthews but walked into a boot to the midsection. Matthews took control and worked over Smiley until he was able to hit a double underhook DDT that put Smiley away for the three count! Karagias and Moore both seemed thrilled with Matthews picking up the clean victory. WINNER - Joey Matthews by pinfall (67/64/71) ----- Alex Wright vs. Cassidy O'Reilly Would the 80's rocker Cassidy O'Reilly share the same fate as Joey Matthews, or could Norman's German Chocolate buddy do what he couldn't and advance to the audition finals? Alex Wright wasted no time taking control of O'Reilly, grounding him to the mat and then adding insult to injury by giving his trademark dance over the fallen O'Reilly. Karagias and Moore were less than pleased at ringside as Wright continued to control the offense. As Wright continued on the offensive, Moore climbed onto the apron to distract referee Billy Silverman as Karagias slid into the ring, but Wright ducked a clothesline attempt from Karagias and Karagias accidentally hit O'Reilly! Wright sent Karagias packing from the ring as Moore reluctantly got off the apron. Wright finished O'Reilly off with the Hangman's Neckbreaker for the win! WINNER - Alex Wright by pinfall (65/54/76) After the match, Alex Wright left the ring - celebrating his victory as Norman Smiley joined him on stage for some dancing. Meanwhile - in the ring, Evan Karagias and Shannon Moore helped Cassidy O'Reilly to his feet...only to clothesline him back down to the mat! Moore and Karagias put the boots to O'Reilly and Moore finished him off with the Bottoms Up! Looks like O'Reilly's quest has come to an end here tonight... ----- That's Why They Call me Kash Backstage, Kash was WALKING when WCW Cruiserweight Champion Chavo Guerrero stopped him in the hallway with his briefcase containing the $500,000 reward for beating Shane Helms for the Cruiserweight Title. Chavo brought up the WCW Cruiserweight Mayhem match and wanted to know if Kash was interested in making some extra money. Kash said they don't call him 'Kash' for nothing and was interested in Chavo's offer. Chavo said he would give Kash 25 thousand right now and an extra 25 thousand later if he can successfully take out everyone in the WCW Cruiserweight Mayhem match - win the match and then lay down for Chavo in the title match he earns. Chavo opened the briefcase and pulled out the first wad of $25,000. Kash took the money and smelled it. He said this would be the easiest $50,000 he's ever made. (68%) ----- For Every Action... Backstage, Chris Kanyon was setting his gear down in the locker room and getting ready for the night when Kimberly Page and Johnny Stamboli walked into the locker room. They were there to voice their displeasure with Kanyon and the fact that he was the one who posted bail for DDP to get out of jail. Kanyon said he was just helping out an old friend...and Kanyon commented on how much Kim had changed. Stamboli promised Kanyon he would regret getting involved with this..and that he should've just let Page rot away in jail. Stamboli told Kanyon he would see him in the ring tonight where he would truly pay for his actions. (77%) ----- WCW Extreme Title Match Mike Awesome (c) (w/Jimmy Hart) vs. Terry Funk Much like the previous match involving these two, it mostly consisted of Mike Awesome dishing out an absurd amount of punishment to the challenging Funk, only to have Funk keep getting back to his feet and kicking out of any pin attempt Awesome made. Hart got involved, tossing his man weapons to use against The Funkster and sliding a table into the ring. As Awesome was setting up the table, Funk found his composure and grabbed a chair already in the ring. Funk slammed the chair across Awesome's back and then slammed Awesome head first into the table! Hudson and Callis were unsure where Funk had found this sudden reserve of offense, but he was certainly using it. Funk laid out Awesome with a DDT and went for the pin! One, Two, Th...kickout by Awesome! Jimmy Hart slid into the ring and tried to attack Funk from behind...but Funk was unphased and gave Hart a boot to the midsection! Funk set up Hart for the piledriver...but Awesome attacked Funk from behind. The momentary distraction from Jimmy Hart was enough for Awesome to take advantage of and he set up Funk for the Awesome Bomb....but before he could hit it, he was hit from a BIG BOOT from The Wall who had suddenly hit the ring. The Wall grabbed Awesome and delivered a big CHOKESLAM to the mat! Funk stumbled up but also was manhandled by The Wall and sent THROUGH THE TABLE with a Chokeslam! Mike Sanders joined The Wall in the ring with the WCW Extreme Title. He handed the title to The Wall, who looked at it and smiled sadistically. The Wall lifted up the title as apparently this match was ruled a No Contest. WINNER - No Contest via interference (70/65/76) ----- Here Comes The Juice! Juventud Guerrera made his way down to the ring to a mixed reaction from the crowd, though it seemed to be mostly cheers. Juvi took the microphone and announced that "FINALL, THE JUICE HAS COME BACK..." - Juvi refered to himself as the People's Cruiserweight Champion and that he was looking forward to stepping into the ring with the other jabronis and walking out with a shot at the Cruiserweight Title. He then finished off his promo with a new phrase "If you feeeeeeeeelalalalalalaa what the JUICE...is...SQUEEZIN!" (70%) ----- Juventud Guerrera vs. "Prime Time" Elix Skipper In a match between two of the competitors in the WCW Cruiserweight Mayhem, these two challengers went back and forth early before Skipper used some underhanded tactics to take control. Skipper displayed his innovated style to the crowd and picked up a nearfall off of his impressive "New School" manuever, but Juvi kicked out in the nick of time. Skipper's advantage was short-lived, as soon Juvi took control and got a nearfall off of wheel barrow facebuster - but Skipper still managed to kick out. Juvi scooped up Skipper for the Juvidriver, but Skipper managed to escape down Juvi's back and roll him up in a cradle for a two count! Just as it looked to be either man's match to win - Kash slid into the ring with chair in hand and took out Skipper with a chair shot! Referee Charles Robinson immediately called for the bell. WINNER - Elix Skipper by disqualification (76/64/88) An upset Juvi tried to intervene, but Kash drove the chair into Juvi's midsection. Juvi doubled over and received a second chair shot to the back! Juvi hit the mat as Kash then worked over Skipper with the chair as the crowd reacted with boos towards the chair wielding cruiserweight. Kash finished Skipper off with the MoneyMaker piledriver! Kash took the chair and climbed the turnbuckles, throwing the chair up and receiving boos from the crowd. A cut to backstage showed Chavo Guerrero watching on with a smile on his face. ----- The Sirens Draw Nearer Another promotional video for Scott Steiner aired. The familiar sirens of Big Poppa Pump's theme music roared in the background as highlights from his career aired on the screen. This time the featured clip was a retro clip from July of 1996 when Scott Steiner won the tag team titles along with his brother Rick Steiner from Harlem Heat. The video ended with promotion for WCW Mayhem when Steiner would make his in-ring return against The Gentlemen's Club own Goldberg. (87%) ----- MAIN EVENT Chris Kanyon vs. Johnny 'The Bull' Stamboli (w/Kimberly Page) A recap from Nitro showed DDP returning to hit Stamboli with the Diamond Cutter after his match on Nitro and then the reveal that it was Chris Kanyon who found the money to post Page's bail and get him out...which of course means that Page will be available to face Stamboli in singles action at WCW Mayhem. But tonight, Stamboli was looking to blow off some steam against Page's close personal friend Kanyon, and show him you don't stick your nose into The Bull's business. This was also Kanyon's first match back from injury, but he did not show much sign of ring rust as he hung tough with Stamboli in the ring. In fact, Stamboli seemed taken aback by Kanyon's offense as Kanyon just continued to pull moves out of his playbook to keep Stamboli down. After a backbreaker rack into a neckdrop, Kimberly began to get very nervous as Kanyon went for the pin. Kimberly could breath a sigh of relief when Stamboli managed to get his shoulder up just in time. Kimberly climbed onto the apron to distract Kanyon - which proved successful as Stamboli recovered and attacked Kanyon from behind. Stamboli took control off the opening created by Kim. He muscled his way into several nearfalls on Kanyon - but Kanyon kept showing his determination as he kicked out of everything Stamboli was throwing at him. Stamboli too was growing more frustrated as Kanyon continued to show preserverance. Stamboli began to set up Kanyon for the Fuh-Get-A-Bout-It but Kanyon blocked it and took Stamboli to the mat with a DDT! Both men were slow to recover, but Kanyon was up first and took Stamboli right back down to the mat with a swinging neckbreaker. Kanyon hit a diving legdrop to the back of Stamboli's head and went for the cover - One, Two, kickout by Stamboli! Kanyon looked to be in firm control as he lifted Stamboli up and hit him with the Electric Chair Facebuster, but before he could follow up with a pin or more offense - Kim once again climbed onto the apron. A frustrated Kanyon told Mark Armstrong he needed to get control as he Kanyon grabbed Kim by the hair and pulled her into the ring! Kanyon set up Kim for the Flatliner....but Stamboli clipped Kanyon's legs from behind! Kim rolled out of the ring to safety as Stamboli took advantage and hit the Fuh-Get-A-Bout-It to Kanyon! Stamboli made the cover - One, Two, Three! WINNER - Johnny Stamboli by pinfall (76/75/77) The show came to a close as Kimberly climbed into the ring and celebrated with her man in victory - standing tall over DDP's fallen friend. WCW Tuesday Nitro August 7, 2001 Announcers: Mike Tenay & Glenn Gilberti Kicking off the show this week, The Gentlemen's Club made their way down to the ring led by Ric Flair. Flair climbed into the ring along with his cohorts and took the microphone. After initially berating the crowd, Flair turned his attention to Sting and Booker T - and rehashed our memory to last week where they found themselves on the losing end in a tag team match involving himself and Goldberg. Flair teased the tension between Sting and Booker T and said that there may be 'trouble in paradise' after all between these two so-called 'buddies.' This brought out WCW Champion Booker T. Booker T showed that he's either brave or just plain dumb as he walked down to the ring and climbed into the ring with all the members of the Gentlemen's Club present. Booker T said that he still has all the respect in the world for Sting, unlike Ric Flair, but that doesn't change the fact that he will walk out of Mayhem as the WCW Champion. Flair began hyping up Sting and his accomplishments in WCW. Booker T said Sting didn't need Flair to do any talking for him - Sting is his own man and a much better man than Flair ever was. Flair said that he was going to do everything within his power to make sure Booker T does not walk out of Mayhem champion so he could get himself another title shot. Booker T said he had been thinking about how much he wanted to get his hands on Flair again...and the contract said that they can't have another title match...HOWEVER, Booker T just came from the Board of Director's office before Nitro...and there's no where in the contract that says they can't have a NON-TITLE match! Booker T announced that Hulk Hogan has signed the match for tonight's Main Event - Booker T vs. Ric Flair in a non-title match! (95%) ----- Kash vs. Psicosis As the match got underway, Mike Tenay went over the rules for the Cruiserweight Mayhem match at WCW Mayhem this Sunday. It will be six men all going for a shot at the WCW Cruiserweight Title and it will be elimination rules. However, it will start with just two men in the ring, with another one entering every 3 minutes! The match continues until just one man is left standing. And it certainly could be either one of these two men, as both are very talented and capable cruiserweights. Psicosis has the most experience of these two as Kash is still making a name for himself in the Cruiserweight Division here in WCW. However after accepting a deal from Champion Chavo Guerrero, Kash seems more interested in causing damage to the competitors and walking out as the winner only to potentially 'lay down' for Chavo for some more money. All dirty deals aside, this was a fantastic little match between two of the six men competing in the challenge. While it went back and forth for the majority of the match, it looked like Psicosis was going to walk away the victor, but Kash rolled out of the way of a Guillotine Legdrop attempt from Psicosis. Kash returned to the ring with a chair and cracked it over Psicosis' skull right in front of the referee! WINNER - Psicosis by disqualification (85/70/100) After the match, Kash continued belting Psicosis across the back with chairshots until Juventud Guerrera rushed down to the ring with a chair of his own to make the save. Kash darted from the ring just as Juvi slid in. Juvi dropped the chair and checked on his Mexico's Most Wanted partner. ----- Filthy Americans The 'Canadian Heavyweight' Champion Lance Storm made his way down to the ring to decent heel heat from the crowd. Storm climbed into the ring and talked about tonight he would be teaming up with the 'extreme' duo of Bam Bam Bigelow and Chris Candido - Storm explained he was very familiar with both of them as they had worked together before in ECW. He had no problem with teaming with them, especially to take on the likes of Andrew Martin and the 'Filthy Animals.' He cut into both the tag champs and his challenger, calling The Filthy Animals the proper name for two degenerates with no respect and Andrew Martin certainly fits in with his partners tonight since he's just as bad as any 'Filthy American.' He continued to trash America, playing on the 'Filthy' wording. He dedicated his upcoming win to his hometown of Calgary........Alberta, Canada and promised to successfully retain the 'Canadian Heavyweight' Title this Sunday at Mayhem. (71%) ----- Six Man Tag Match Lance Storm & Double Jeopardy (w/Tammy Lynn Sytch) vs. Andrew Martin & The Filthy Animals (w/Torrie Wilson) With the PPV on Sunday, this was the usual six man tag preview match as Martin got an early opportunity to get to the WCW United States Champion while Double Jeopardy tried to continue to one-up the tag champions despite Billy Kidman getting a clean victory over Chris Candido last week on Thunder. The faces started out on fire with Martin using his size to take control of Candido and then Storm before Bigelow got into the ring and put a halt to any momentum the faces had. Kidman found himself in the ring matched up against the Beast from The East, which proved to be the huge mismatch you would expect it to be. With Bigelow dominating Kidman, he brought Candido and eventually Storm back in as well as they worked over Kidman and kept at it with pinfall attempts - but Rey or Martin would always be there to break it up. Eventually all hell would break loose after the faces got tired of all the cheapshots and double/triple teams and it was all six men in a free-for-all brawl that saw Bigelow get taken out of the ring by a double dropkick from Kidman and Rey! Candido ended up taking out Kidman only to have Andrew Martin grab Candido from behind and toss him over the top rope. Ultimately Lance Storm ended up eatting a tiger feint kick across the middle ropes that Rey is calling the "6-1-9" sending Storm stumbling backwards into a waiting Martin who put Storm away with the Pumphandle Slam! Martin made the cover and picked up the three count win! WINNERS - Andrew Martin & The Filthy Animals (73/66/81) ----- A Mystery No Longer The sounds of "Vertebreaker" hit the PA system, bringing out Shane Helms to a nice sized pop from the crowd. Helms savored the cheers as his backup dancers danced on the stage. Helms slid into the ring and took the microphone. Helms reminded us that this Sunday at Mayhem, he'd be taking on the Gentlemen's Club team of Curt Hennig, Mark Jindrak, and Shawn Stasiak...but that he wasn't going it alone. He had saught out help and found it in the form of a well established team. But first, he wanted to ask Mark Jindrak and Shawn Stasiak to join him out there right now. A reluctant Jindrak & Stasiak came down to the ring along with Stacy Keibler, who demanded to know what the meaning of this was. Helms smiled and said that the Board had agreed to give his partners a match TONIGHT...as in RIGHT NOW...against Stasiak and Jindrak. Keibler wanted to know why she wasn't informed of this, and Helms replied that he had JUST informed her! He said that it was no longer be a mystery as to who his partners would be at Mayhem. So without further adue...Helms wanted his partners to come out...HEY YO! The familiar wolf howl is heard as Scott Hall and Kevin Nash made their way out from the back to a loud ovation from the crowd. Stasiak, Jindrak, and Keibler could only stare in disblief as Nash and Hall joined forces with Shane Helms in the ring...but they didn't have much time to stare because they had to take on their opponents...right now! (89%) ----- Mark Jindrak & Shawn Stasiak (w/Stacy Keibler) vs. The Outsiders (w/Shane Helms) The fact that they were still in utter shock to the sudden arrival of Hall and Nash coupled with the fact that they were completely unprepared (both were in street gear) - made this a pretty one sided fight. Nash started the match out against Jindrak and hit several trade mark Nash offensive moves including some corner back elbows and the Snake Eyes - before tagging in Hall and letting him hit some offense to Jindrak. Stasiak managed to get the tag, but ran right into a blazing Hall who took him down with some quick left hands. Stasiak fought back against Hall, but an attempt of a crossbody was only countered with a catch followed by a Fallaway Slam from Hall! Hall tagged Nash back in, and Jindrak entered the ring only to receive a Big Boot from Nash! Nash then picked up Stasiak..JACK KNIFE POWER BOMB to Stasiak while Hall picked up Jindrak and hit him with the Outsider's Edge! Nash made the cover on Stasiak - One, Two, Three! WINNERS - The Outsiders by pinfall (74/78/68) After the match, Shane Helms entered the ring and celebrated with his two partners at Mayhem. Nash and Hall made the Wolfpack sign with their hands and Helms joined in the fun while Jindrak, Stasiak, and Keibler regrouped at ringside. Was this a sign of things to come for Mayhem as well?? ----- Big Poppa Pump To Return...AT THUNDER! One last hype video for the return of "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner aired - once again showcasing his career highlights but this one focused on his WCW World Title win. The video wrapped up by saying Scott Steiner's in ring return would be against Goldberg this Sunday...but he WILL be making his first APPERANCE this Thursday on Thunder! (78%) ----- No Help Wanted Backstage, WCW World Champion Booker T was taping up his wrists and preparing for the Main Event match tonight against Ric Flair, when Sting entered the locker room. Booker T immediately stopped what he was doing and wanted to know what Sting wanted. Sting asked if Booker was still sore about what happened last week - Sting explained that both of them were guilty of miscommunication, and that's all there is to it. Booker wanted to know if Sting was sure that was all there was to it - or did he subconsciously want to soften Booker T up for the title match at Mayhem? Sting said that Booker knows the kind of guy Sting is and he should know that he wants Booker at 100% for their match. Sting told Booker that despite their differences after last week - he has Booker's back tonight if things get out of hand with the Gentlemen's Club. Booker gives Sting a 'thanks, but no thanks' - and assures Sting that he doesn't need or want his help. He'd hate for there to be some more 'miscommunication' tonight. Booker told Sting to just sit back in the locker room and enjoy having the night off before their match at Mayhem. Sting bit his tongue, deciding it was best to just say nothing at all and simply shook his head before leaving Booker to prepare for his match. (85%) ----- The Wall & Mike Awesome (w/Jimmy Hart & Mike Sanders) vs. Hugh Morrus & Dustin Rhodes As the two powerhouses Wall and Awesome made their way to the ring with their respective managers - we are reminded of how these two have had run-ins with one another recently, as the past two weeks in a row Awesome has been put through a table by the man he's teaming with tonight. Tenay announced that at Mayhem, these two will actually be opponents as Mike Awesome will defend the Extreme Title against The Wall! In this match, Awesome and Wall proved to be difficult to work with as they spent most of the match arguing over who gets to be in the ring - while Hart and Sanders argued at ringside as well! This allowed Rhodes and Morrus to get the advantage against Awesome briefly...but even with their differences, the menacing combo of The Wall and Mike Awesome proved too much for even Rhodes and Morrus...The Wall put Dustin Rhodes away with the Chokeslam to pick up the win for his team! WINNERS - The Wall & Mike Awesome by pinfall (73/68/78) After the match, Jimmy Hart tossed Mike Awesome a chair, and Awesome proceeded to nearly break the chair across The Wall's back as Mike Sanders was raising his arm in victory! The Wall stumbled, but still did not fall until Mike Awesome showed off his strength, hitting The Wall with a chokebomb! Mike Awesome picked The Wall back up and laid him out with the Awesome Bomb! Awesome left the ring with The Wall laid out in the ring...Hart and Awesome celebrated on the ramp - but back in the ring, The Wall started to pull himself up to his feet. The Wall kneeled on one knee, staring up from the ring to Awesome on the ramp! What a battle of goliaths it will be at Mayhem! ----- A Friend in Need Backstage, Scott Hudson was standing by with Diamond Dallas Page to discuss his match against Johnny 'The Bull' Stamboli at Mayhem. Hudson wanted to know what state of mind Page was in, and Page explained that he's thinking a lot clearer now than he was a couple of months ago when he had a match against Stamboli, right after he showed up on the scene with his wife. But Page said that doesn't mean he's going to be taking it easy on Stamboli...he still wants to beat the snot out of that greaseball. Speak of the devil - Stamboli's voice was heard in the distance calling for Page! "What the Hell.." Page commented as he followed the voice til he found Stamboli beating on a fallen Chris Kanyon with his chain! Stamboli pulled Kanyon up by his hair and held the chain up and told Page that this is what happens to people that get in The Bull's business. Page tried to intervene...but was attacked from behind by his estranged wife as Kimberly Page snuck in a low blow to her husband! Page doubled over and Stamboli came over and delivered a chain assisted punch to Page, sending him to the ground! Stamboli thanked Kim for a job well down, and the two shared a kiss over Page's fallen body before the two left Page and Kanyon laid out backstage. (81%) ----- MAIN EVENT - Non-Title Match Booker T vs. Ric Flair Another match in the Flair/Booker T series - but this one was not for the title, mainly bragging rights or for Flair it was the opportunity to wear down Booker in hopes that Sting would win the title at Mayhem, allowing him to get another title shot. The quality was a little below that of their more recent encounters, probably due to the TV time constraints - but Flair took control and worked over Booker's leg just as he has done in the past. A figure four attempt to Booker was unsuccessful as Booker was able to work his way to the ropes to get the clean break. Flair got back up and went back on the attack, hitting a big back suplex to Booker and then going back to work on the leg. He went for a second Figure Four, but Booker fought free - kicking Flair right square in the jaw with his free leg. Flair was stumbled and Booker got to his feet with a Spinaroonie! Flair walked right into a Harlem Sidekick from Flair. A pinfall attempt would only net a two count. As Booker began to solidify an advantage in the match, Curt Hennig made his way down from the back! Hennig slid into the ring and was immediately bet by referee NIck Patrick who cut off Hennig. But with the referee distracted, Flair was able to hit a low blow to Booker T! Hennig climbed out of the ring as Flair retook control. Flair would pick up a couple nearfalls until the crowd began to draw Booker back into the match. Booker fought back to his feet like a house of fire, but a wild punch from Booker was ducked and Booker accidentally punched Nick Patrick! Patrick dropped to the mat and Hennig immediately slid into the ring. Booker met Hennig as he entered the ring and the two exchanged blows until Sting ran down from the back! Sting slid into the ring to even the odds, taking on Hennig as Booker T went back to work on Flair. However when Sting went for a jumping clothesline to Hennig, Hennig ducked and Sting took Booker T down with the clothesline! Booker immediately got back to his feet and shoved Sting...suddenly the two opponents for Mayhem were brawling in the ring! Flair and Hennig rolled to ringside as Booker and Sting were exchanging blows in the ring! Flair grabbed the WCW Title and rolled back into the ring...Flair swung the title at Booker, but Booker ducked and Flair clocked Sting with the title! Booker ducked another attempt by Flair to hit him with the title and dropped Flair with the BOOKEND! Hennig tried to get into the ring, but a bicycle kick sent him out of the ring. Booker made the cover as Nick Patrick got back in position to make the count - One, Two, Three! WINNER - Booker T by pinfall (89/98/70) After the match, Booker took the WCW title and rolled out of the ring, celebrating with the crowd at ringside who greeted him with a big pop. Booker headed up the ramp and stopped at the top of the stage to throw the title up in the air as Sting was getting to his feet in the ring. From the ring to the stage, Sting and Booker T had an intense staredown as Booker kept the title lifted high in the air for Sting to watch. The show came to a close as Tenay and Gilberti gave one last hype up for the title match at Mayhem! OVERALL - 81%

Great show, probably my favorite Nitro since I started reading about halfway through. Sucks about AJ, as that was something I was really keeping my eye on, but the show must go on. The Outsiders were a good addition, and I like the Chavo/Kash angle a lot. Hopefully Thunder stops being a disappointment to everyone. :shifty: |
