STARTING FIVE

CP3 made a lot of Carolinians very happy when he chose to sign in Charlotte this summer. Time to see if he can keep up with the four young bucks.

Posted Image 83 OVR

The Rookie of the Year has a season under his belt. Now that he's not going to be the main man, he'll have some open shots. Whether he makes those shots will have a lot to do with our success come April.

Posted Image 72 OVR

MKG is a good player, who does not excel at any one area. He's a good athletic defender, we'll see how he develops playing alongside his college teammate in Anthony Davis.

Posted Image 74 OVR

Our first overall pick will improve our interior presence on both ends of the court. Davis is a relentless hustler, and we are very excited to see what this young potential-filled lineup can do against some of the older teams. No one will outrun Charlotte this year.

Posted Image 61 OVR

Bismack was one of our most improved players over the offseason. He has a lot to prove if he wants to keep his job. Now that the rest of the team is stronger, he needs to prove that he can keep improving, or he might be replaced.

Key Reserves

SG Gerald Henderson - 70 OVR
PF Kris Humphries - 70 OVR
SF Goran Dragic - 67 OVR
SG Reggie Williams - 66 OVR
PF DJ White - 64 OVR
PF Nick Collison - 59 OVR
C Shelden Williams - 57 OVR
SG Matt Carroll - 53 OVR

New Look Cats Sputter Out of the Gates

Update - 12/13/12

Bobcats: 5-15/ 8.5 GB in the division (Miami Heat: 13-6) / 5.5 GB of the 8th seed (Toronto Raptors: 11-10)

Ugh. This is not what we anticipated when we were making moves in the offseason. Through one month, our team is DEAD last in the NBA. We started off hot, winning 3 of our first 4. Since then, we went 2-14. Kemba Walker has missed games with a pesky calf injury, which has thrust Gerald Henderson into the starting five.

BOBCATS LEADERS
PPG: Chris Paul - 23.5 PPG
RPG: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist - 8.6 RPG
APG: Chris Paul/Kemba Walker - 5.2 APG
SPG: Chris Paul - 2.5 SPG
BPG: Anthony Davis - 2.0 BPG
TOPG: Chris Paul - 3.3 TOPG
MPG: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist - 33.9 MPG

Somehow, despite nearly all of our leaders having better numbers than at this point last year, we've failed to come together to compile wins. Chris Paul and Kemba Walker have been playing nice, combining to average 40 points, 6 rebounds, 10 assists, and 3.5 steals per game. Kidd-Gilchrist has been a surprise, outrebounding all of our bigs. Anthony Davis has been the shot-blocker he was advertised to be, with two a game.

Trade Rumblings

Most of our players are happy enough now, with the exception of reserve center and part-time turtle impersonator, Shelden Williams who is frustrated with his minutes. We're not that concerned about him at this juncture, but he could be used as a throw-in at a later date. Our lack of depth is concerning, and I wouldn't be surprised if Rich Cho were to make a deadline deal for some valuable role players.

Kinda unexpected, but admittedly when your lineup is full of really young guys and one superstar, there could be some problems.

I expect a bounce back though.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Bobcat

Update - 1/24/13

Bobcats: 19-22/ 10.0 GB in the division (Miami Heat: 29-12) / 1.5 GB of the 8th seed (New Jersey Nets: 21-21)

Who the hell knows with this team anymore.

Charlotte bounced back in a big way, going 14 and 7 in their second set of games.

BOBCATS LEADERS
PPG: Chris Paul - 25.0 PPG
RPG: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist - 8.3 RPG
APG: Chris Paul - 5.6 APG
SPG: Chris Paul - 2.6 SPG
BPG: Anthony Davis - 1.8 BPG
TOPG: Chris Paul - 3.4 TOPG
MPG: Chris Paul - 34.5 MPG

He put da team on his back, doe. Chris Paul is carrying this team of youngsters as far as he can. If he has an off-night, that's all she wrote for us. When he's on, we have a good chance of competing with anyone in the league. He makes this team go.

Trade Rumblings

Most of our players are happy enough now, with the exception of reserve center and part-time turtle impersonator, Shelden Williams who is frustrated with his minutes. Terico White is also upset now. We need some better bench pieces. Look for a sixth-man type to be on our trade radar as we near the deadline.

Bobcats continue their winning ways, riding a 9 game win-streak into All Star Weekend.

Update - 2/23/13

Bobcats: 31-24/ 7.5 GB in the division (Miami Heat: 39-17) / Currently the 5th seed

Though the second quarter of the season was encouraging, it muddied the waters as to the level of talent on this team. Were we the team that sputtered out of the gates, or were we the team that won 75% of it's next 20 games? The answer is becoming more and more clear.

Apparently, Charlotte was waiting for the calendar to change to play its best basketball. Since the New Year, the Bobcats are 20-6, shooting from outside the playoff picture right into the middle of it.

BOBCATS LEADERS
PPG: Chris Paul - 25.2 PPG
RPG: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist - 8.0 RPG
APG: Chris Paul - 5.9 APG
SPG: Chris Paul - 2.5 SPG
BPG: Anthony Davis - 1.7 BPG
TOPG: Chris Paul - 3.2 TOPG
MPG: Chris Paul - 34.3 MPG

CP3 continues to drive this team to the top. He has increased his points and assists and has decreased his turnovers. Anthony Davis has been out with strained hamstring, so Kris Humphries has filled in admirably in his absence.

Trade! - January 26, 2013

Posted Image
PG Norris Cole

After shopping some of our disgruntled players, we were able to swing a deal with the division leading Miami Heat that brought us a few young role players and their first round pick this year.

Bobcats receive: Norris Cole, James Jones, 2013 First Round Pick
Heat receive: Goran Dragic, Terrico White, Shelden Williams

None of the guys we lost were terribly irreplaceable. Cole has been a great piece coming off the bench, and we can't wait to see his development under CP3.

Since the trade, we are 11-2, so we decided not to mess with a winning formula at the trade deadline.

Playoffs-bound! Barely!

1st Round

Bobcats: 41-41/ 8th seed

After looking SO good heading into the trade deadline, we completely crumbled down the stretch, nearly falling out of the playoffs. We had to win our last game to finish .500 and qualify as the 8th seed, earning us a trip to play Miami in the first round. Great.

BOBCATS LEADERS
PPG: Chris Paul - 24.9 PPG
RPG: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist - 7.8 RPG
APG: Chris Paul - 6.0 APG
SPG: Chris Paul - 2.3 SPG
BPG: Anthony Davis - 1.4 BPG
TOPG: Chris Paul - 3.1 TOPG
MPG: Chris Paul - 34.1 MPG

Our team MVP, Chris Paul was honored as the second best point guard in the NBA, being named to the All-NBA Second Team.

Meanwhile, both of our talented rookies, MKG and Anthony Davis were named to the All-Rookie First team, but were edged out by Detroit's Harrison Barnes for Rookie of the Year.

Round One - 1 Miami Heat vs. 8 Charlotte Bobcats
Game 1: Charlotte 80 - 108 Miami
Game 2: Charlotte 96 - 102 Miami
Game 3: Miami 81 - 90 Charlotte
Game 4: Miami 111 - 116 Charlotte
Game 5: Charlotte 93 - 95 Miami
Game 6: Miami 92 - 70 Charlotte

As you can see, we put up a valiant effort, but Miami was too talented for us. We were able to defend our home court in our first two home games, and almost segued that into a road win, but missed our shot at the buzzer in Game 5. Things could have ended very differently had the series gone back to Charlotte with an opportunity for us to close them out.

Oh well. Time to plan for the off-season.

In a bit of a surprise, the Warriors were able to overcome the Heat in 6 games to win the NBA Finals.

Charlotte's own, Stephen Curry was named the Finals MVP.

Some players retired, some coaches retired. Nobody cares. Let's move on to the offseason.

Draft Update
After the playoffs and the lottery, the draft order was finalized.

We will have two first round picks and none in the second:

Pick 17
Pick 29

Not really a great spot to pick up guys to star. Hopefully we can find some nice role-players in these spots.

Team Options
SG Kemba Walker - 2 year option - Accepted
PG Norris Cole - 2 year option - Accepted
C Bismack Biyombo - 2 year option - Accepted

Really no questions about any of these three young guys. All are a big part of our team.

We also extended a 4 million dollar qualifying offer to Mr. Midrange Jump Shot, Gerald Henderson. Hopefully that keeps him happy.

Kris Humphries, Reggie Williams, Matt Carroll, and Gerald Henderson will all become Free Agents.

Next post will have the 2013 Draft and Free Agency!

With the 17th Overall Selection in the 2013 NBA Draft, the Charlotte Bobcats select: Guard Tony Wroten, Washington
Posted Image

Scouts say:
Quote:

Strengths: A super athletic 6’5” lefty combo with a finesse game that is under control and spectacular at the same time ... Wroten shows a great eye for the court overall, finding open teammates with creative skip passes, and one-handed lasers to cutters who seem to simply be in the right place for Tony’s passes, instead of the passes being in the right place for their intended players ... He uses his athleticism by helping out on the offensive boards, scooping up loose balls, playing hounding defense and being a general terror on the court ... He picks his spots for his own offense, spending most of his possessions looking for teammates, yet he can rise up and dunk on you with authority if you’re not careful ... Wroten’s most notable skill, however, is his ability to change directions and show great body control ...Physically he is very quick to adjust, whether he’s trying to rise up for a rebound or when attacking the basket ... Teams often attempt to be overly aggressive with Wroten and he has shown that he doesn’t back down. Shows a high level of intensity when he's interested ...

With the 29th Overall Selection in the 2013 NBA Draft, the Charlotte Bobcats select: Small Forward Rodney Williams, Minnesota
Posted Image

Scouts say:
Quote:

Strengths: Explosive, physical freak type of athlete with great length and an improving game ... Makes highlight reel plays on a regular basis, an absolutely breath taking athlete ... Outside shooting has shown solid development and he shows a promising shooting form ... Very aggressive attacking the rim and is great in the open floor ... A nightmare on back door cuts for ally oops. Also excels at crashing the glass for follow up rebound jams ... Has tremendous length (wingspan in the 7-foot neighborhood) and a great basketball body ... Already has good strength with muscle mass (which is sure to improve) giving him the ability to finish at the rim after contact ... Appears to have grown an inch or two in the past year (from 6'5 to 6'7) ... His offensive game should be able to develop considerably while in at the collegiate level ... Shows a lot of potential defensively with excellent anticipation and a great first step to jump passing lanes and get out for breakaway dunks ... Appears to have a high motor and willingness to be coached and improve ... His upside is considerable ...

We are very excited about the value that we got with both of these young men, and look forward to them getting involved with our team next year. With our guard and swing man depth shored up, we'll look to add in some bigs to relieve Bismack and the Brow. We have around 23 million in cap space and 3 spaces to fill before the end of Free Agency--let's do this!

Day 1

Bobcats agree to terms with PF Yi Jianlian on a 4 year deal, reportedly worth $28 Million.
Posted Image

The soft shooting big-man never really had a chance to shine with any of his other teams. He has potential to pair with his rebounding and shooting ability. He offers a change of pace from Anthony Davis and Bismack Biyombo off the bench as the Sixth-Man.

Day 2

David West signs a one year, 4 million dollar deal
Posted Image

A grizzly veteran, West brings some experience to a team that desperately needs it. West and CP3 often connected with one another when they were in New Orleans. It is quite possible they wanted an opportunity to play together again.

Day 3

Bobcats add a pair of role players
Posted ImagePosted Image

Sharpshooter Anthony Morrow and Center Mehmet Okur ink minor deals with the Bobcats. Neither will start, but both will provide instant offense whenever they're on the floor.

Day 13

Gerald Henderson agrees to terms on his one year Qualifying Offer.

New season post to come!

STARTING FIVE

Posted Image 92 OVR

CP3 carried this team last year, let's hope he has a little more help in this campaign.

Posted Image 84 OVR

Kemba had a bit of a down year, but still has all of the talent in the world. We're expecting him to put up great numbers once again.

Posted Image 75 OVR

MKG has been working in the offseason on his perimeter shooting. Time will tell if he's developed a significant jump shot.

Posted Image 74 OVR

Davis made great strides last year, and alongside Block Brother (c) Bismack Biyombo, helped to shut down teams inside. Both players finished with over 100 blocks. Davis - 111, Biyombo 107.

Posted Image 65 OVR

Consistently the most improved player on the team, Biyombo looks like a hardened veteran, but he's still only 21 years old. He gets better every year, and the talent around him is getting to the point where he can really shine.

Key Reserves

PF David West - 72 OVR
SG Gerald Henderson - 71 OVR
PF Yi Jianlian - 70 OVR
PG Tony Wroten - 67 OVR
SG Anthony Morrow - 67 OVR
SF Rodney Williams - 67 OVR
C Mehmet Okur - 62 OVR

Preseason Trade!

PG Norris Cole and SF James Jones were beginning to complain about their minutes. Before they became a distraction, we shipped their sorry asses off to Denver in exchange for their first round pick this year.

Thanks, Nuggers!

Bobcats get out to a quick start

Update - 12/16/13

Bobcats: 14-6/ 1.5 GB in the division (Miami Heat: 16-5) /Currently the 5th seed

Much better. After a season of gelling together and with the addition of valuable bench pieces, we're finally in the mix of things. We started out hot, going 11-2 in November, but we've cooled off a bit heading into December.

BOBCATS LEADERS
PPG: Kemba Walker - 18.5 PPG
RPG: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist - 7.9 RPG
APG: Chris Paul - 8.4 APG
SPG: Chris Paul - 3.2 SPG
BPG: Bismack Biyombo - 1.3 BPG
TOPG: Kemba Walker - 2.5 TOPG
MPG: Chris Paul - 35.0 MPG

Chris Paul is still the centerpiece of this team, however, with Kemba taking on a bigger scoring responsibility, Chris Paul has been able to concentrate on his assists. He's still averaging 17.3 PPG at this point, but the offense is moving better due to him being able to spread the ball around. Rookies Rodney Williams and Tony Wroten are both averaging 4 points a game in reserve roles, usually in the form of two monstrous dunks. Meanwhile, Bismack has doubled his previous PPG, averaging nearly 6 points a game.

Gerald Henderson "Unsettled"

Just when we start to put some god damn wins together, another ego has to get in the way. Longtime Bobcat Gerald Henderson is getting upset about his role (which is stupid, because he's the first guy off the bench). If his attitude becomes destructive to the team's chemistry, we have no qualms pulling the trigger and sending his ass away.

Bobcats Surge to the Top of the East

Update - 1/26/14

Bobcats: 32-9/ Division leader (Atlanta Hawks: 29-13 3.5 GB) / Currently the 1st seed

Talk about getting hot. The second quarter of the season turned out excellently, as the Cats were able to go 18-3. Unfortunately, the schedule was kind of vanilla for most of that period. Also, the team just lost backup big, Mehmet Okur to a lower back strain. He'll be out for 2-4 weeks.

BOBCATS LEADERS
PPG: Kemba Walker - 18.6 PPG
RPG: Anthony Davis/Michael Kidd Gilchrist - 8.1 RPG
APG: Chris Paul - 6.0 APG
SPG: Chris Paul - 2.5 SPG
BPG: Bismack Biyombo - 1.4 BPG
TOPG: Kemba Walker - 2.2 TOPG
MPG: Kemba Walker - 34.9 MPG

Paul was sidelined for a few games with a turned ankle. The team did not lose a beat, picking up the scoring responsibility and filling in nicely for him. David West, in particular, stepped his game up and he's the third leading scorer off the bench.

Gerald Henderson "Frustrated"

Hendo is still pissed off. This week he announced that he'd be testing FA this year. We're sooooooooo scared. Pleeeeeeease, doooooon't gooooooooooooo.

Get the fuck out. Don't even grab a bagel.

So long as his bitching doesn't affect our chemistry, we'll keep him around. But if he starts infecting others, he'll be on the first train to the shittiest team that will take him.

Bobcats Cool Off a Bit

Update - 3/14/14

Bobcats: 41-20/ Division leader (Atlanta Hawks: 42-22 0.5 GB) / Currently the 1st seed

This is the streakiest fucking team I've ever seen in my life. After a dominant second quarter of the season, the Bobcats decided to take it easy, completely blowing the lead they built up over the last sim. Nevertheless, we currently have the same record we finished with last year, this time with 21 games left to play.

We had no one named to the All Star Game, but Rookie Tony Wroten and Sophomore Michael Kidd-Gilchrist both started for their respective sides in the Futures Game. Wroten was named MVP after the Rooks took down the Sophs 93-89. MKG finished with 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals. Wroten led all Rookies with 20 points, 5 assists, and 3 steals.

BOBCATS LEADERS
PPG: Kemba Walker - 18.6 PPG
RPG: Anthony Davis/Michael Kidd Gilchrist - 8.0 RPG
APG: Chris Paul - 6.0 APG
SPG: Chris Paul - 2.2 SPG
BPG: Bismack Biyombo - 1.4 BPG
TOPG: Chris Paul/Kemba Walker - 2.2 TOPG
MPG: Kemba Walker - 35.3 MPG

Not a whole lot of difference. We're very pleased with our bench production this year. David West is second in the NBA in efficiency, shooting .565 from the field and Anthony Morrow is third in three point efficiency, converting on 48.9% of his three point attempts.

Bobcats make a few moves

Sick of listening to Henderson's bitching, we finally had enough. To accommodate the move we wanted to make, we first signed D-League standout and former Bobcats bench warmer, Sherron Collins to a one year minimum deal.

NEXT, we traded Henderson's sorry ass to Portland and swapped first round picks with them this year. They were intent on getting our second round pick next year, too, for some reason. We obliged.

Portland Receives: Gerald Henderson, Bobcats 2014 First, Bobcats 2015 Second
Charlotte Receives: Blazers 2014 First

For those keeping score at home, we currently have two firsts this year, and one first next year.

Portland's pick is currently a lottery pick. Hopefully we get lucky when the balls drop.
