Welcome to the Show

Let's meet the 5 players we'll be following this year -- and hopefully for many years to come.

2B Mike Marks
A 6'1" 185 pound second basemen out of Memphis, TN. He's got impact tools, but he's still learning to translate those tools into performance. He projects as a plus .300 hitter with little power. He's very patient at the plate and above average on the base path. Defense is this kid's game. Personality wise, there really isn't much to dislike.

1B Chris Ticon
A 6'4" 220 pound first baseman out of Youngstown, OH. He's a scouts dream and should be a star for many seasons to come. He's got above average contact potential and a very high ceiling when it comes to power. He exhibits patience at the plate, competence on the base path, and skill in the field. Personality wise, he's charismatic, but his poor work habits can set a bad example for teammates.

SP William Cody Perkins
A 6'1" 185 pound starting pitcher hailing from Tulare, CA. He's the kind of player you build a franchise around. If he keeps developing, he'll be one of the league's top strikeout pitchers for many years. He has absolutely filthy movement on his pitches, but can be a tad wild with his control. Personality wise, he's pretty ordinary. He did let us know he enjoys fishing on the weekends.

SP Santiago Cabrera
A 6'4" 235 pound starting pitcher from Cuba. The scouting report on this guy says he has the potential to be a #1 or #2 starter in the Majors. He has great stuff and movement, but can be a little inconsistent when it comes to control. Personality wise, he cherishes his privacy and can't wait to leave after a game.

C Jon Dubb
A 6'3" 230 pound catcher from Raleigh, NC. He has impact potential and could be a superstar -- if he figures it all out. He's got well above average contact potential and should be a high RBI/HR clean-up hitter in the future. His eye is solid, if unspectacular. With a little practice, he could be pretty good at drawing walks. Running is not a factor in his game. He has plus-plus defense behind the plate. Personality wise, he has a tendency to become complacent, and lacks the determination to make the most of his tools. In short, his work ethic is a concern.

These first few updates will come quick as there isn't really much to update.

Through July 1, 2011

2B Mike Marks
Drafted by the Washington Nationals with the 7th overall pick, Marks has not yet been signed by the club. Rumors are that he's demanding a signing bonus of $5,370,000.

Chris Ticon
Drafted by the Seattle Mariners with the 2nd overall pick, Ticon signed fairly quickly probably in part because of the hefty $6,020,000 signing bonus given to him. Ticon has played 1 game with the Peoria Mariners of the Arizona League. Seattle apparently liked what they saw and called the 16 year old up to the big leagues (so much for development, eh?). Thus far, Ticon has struggled in the Majors. Defensively, Ticon has already committed 2 errors through 5 games. A trip to minors might do him some good.

William Cody Perkins
Ticon's signing bonus is nothing compared to what the Arizona Diamondbacks gave the 3rd overall pick. Perkins received $9,000,000 and the 16 year old was immediately named the teams #2 starter. Perkins could probably use some time in the minors, but he's performed a little better than Ticon thus far. Through 4 starts, Perkins has compiled a 1-2 record with an ERA of 6.00.

Santiago Cabrera
The 11th overall pick has not yet signed with the Mets. Reports are that he's seeking a signing bonus of $4,190,000.

Jon Dubb
Dubb has yet to sign with the Orioles. Thus far, the Orioles have balked at his bonus demand of $6,930,000.

The deadline to sign draft picks is August 5th - a little over a month away. Will Marks, Cabrera, and Dubb sign before then? Or will we see them in next year's draft? Will Ticon and Perkins better adjust to the Majors? Or do they both need some seasoning in the minors?

It appears I made have made you guys a little TOO good. Oh well, trial and error.

Through August 1, 2011

2B Mike Marks
Marks finally signed with the Nationals on July 5th and received a signing bonus of $5.9 million. Like Ticon, he spent one game in the Rookie League, before getting called up the big league club. Unlike Ticon, Marks has been tearing the leather off the ball thus far and could be a favorite for rookie of the year. Mike Marks is an every day player and bats 6th in the lineup. The Nationals find themselves at 52-55, good for 3rd in the NL East.

Chris Ticon
Ticon has remained with the Mariners thus far and has improved his numbers a little bit. At 16 years old, he has room to improve and I'm scared to see what this kid can do in the future. Ticon currently plays against right handed pitchers and bats 3rd in the lineup. The Mariners find themselves at 60-49, good for 1st in the AL West.

William Cody Perkins
Like Chris Ticon, William Cody Perkins has spent the entire year with the Diamondbacks. Perkins looks like a mainstay for years to come in the D'Back rotation. Statistically, he's brought his numbers way down, but the team hasn't had the jump in standings as expected. Perkins is still the #2 starter in Arizona. They currently sit at 55-53, fourth in the NL West.

Santiago Cabrera
Cabrera still has not signed with the Mets. His demand remains the same.

Jon Dubb
Dubb and the Orioles have not come to terms. Many wonder if that's because of Dubb's bonus demand.

5 days left for Cabrera and Dubb to sign. Marks, Ticon, and Perkins have all been impressive thus far helping their respective teams to winning records.

Through September 1, 2011

2B Mike Marks
Marks has continued doing what he does best - hitting for average and playing excellent defense. If he keeps this up, he'll have a job in the Majors for years to come. Through 45 games with the Nationals, Marks has a .307/.387/.423 line with 7 doubles, 4 home runs, 19 RBI, 2 stolen bases, and 18 runs scored. Analysts would like to see his on base percentage rise as he's only drawn 22 walks to 24 strike outs. Defensively, Marks has committed just one error and has a UZR rating of +3.4.

The Nationals had a rough month falling to 66-69 - 12 games out of 1st in the NL East.

Chris Ticon
Chris Ticon has played almost a third of a full major league season and has amassed pretty pedestrian numbers. You have to wonder if the Mariners are hurting this kid's future by playing him before he's ready. Through 50 games, Ticon has a line of .237/.306/.407 with 10 doubles, 1 triple, 7 home runs, 30 RBI, 5 stolen bases (1 caught stealing), and 31 runs scored. Like Marks, Ticon could definitely improve his on base percentage, but that should come with time. Defensively, Ticon has committed 4 errors and has a UZR of just +0.2.

The Mariners continue to play Ticon against right handed pitchers only and sit in first place in the AL West at 71-65, 1 game ahead of the Oakland Athletics.

William Cody Perkins
William Cody Perkins might just prove to be the best prospect out of this year's draft class. Within a few years, Perkins could very well be a #1 starter and in the race for the Cy Young award. Through 15 games started (93.1 innings pitched), Perkins has a 6-4 record with a 3.47 ERA and 116 strikeouts to 60 walks. Opponents are batting just .233 against him. He's given up 11 home runs on the year. Perkins has committed 1 error and has a UZR rating of -0.1.

Perkins recorded his first career shutout on July 2nd against the Oakland Athletics, allowing 6 hits while striking out 10 and walking 1.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are in 4th place in the NL West with a record of 70-67 - 13 games behind the San Francisco Giants.

Santiago Cabrera
August 5th came and passed. Santiago Cabrera and the New York Mets could not come to terms on a contract. Cabrera has instead opted to sign with the North Carolina Tar Heels and we'll see him in next year's draft.

Jon Dubb
Like Cabrera, the Orioles failed to sign their first round pick Jon Dubb. Dubb, probably the top catcher in this class, reportedly refused to budge on his bonus demand. Until next year, Dubb has decided to attended Charleston Southern. Better luck next year Dubb.

Through October 1, 2011

2B Mike Marks
Mike Marks had a rough month. Might be a sign that the Nationals are pushing their young 2nd baseman too much too soon. At 18, it might do him some good to play in the minors for a bit.

On the year, Marks has a .283/.367/.439 line with 8 doubles, 2 triples, 8 home runs, 31 RBI, 4 stolen bases, and 32 runs scored. He's drawn 32 walks while striking out 34 times. Defensively, Marks has committed 4 errors and has a +2.6 UZR rating.

Due to his poor month, Marks is now only playing versus left handed pitchers when there is a DH. As a team, the Nationals finished the year 85-77 - 10 games out of the wild card.

Chris Ticon
Chris Ticon played in 72 games for the Seattle Mariners. He finished with a .249/.318/.436 line with 13 doubles, 1 triple, 11 home runs, 40 RBI, 6 stolen bases (1 caught stealing), and 47 runs scored. Ticon drew 26 walks and struck out 40 times. In the field, Ticon committed 5 errors and finished with a +1.2 UZR rating.

Oddly enough, the Mariners decided to move Chris Ticon to SS (probably due to the presence of Justin Smoak). He's currently batting second every day for the team.

The Mariners finished the year 84-78 - 1st in the AL West. They'll meet the Boston Red Sox (97-65) in the ALDS.

William Cody Perkins
William Cody Perkins had a rough close to the year much like Mike Marks. Seems like fatigue set in for the 16 year old phenom. On the year, Perkins started 20 games (119.1 innings pitched), winning 6 and losing 6. He amassed a 4.07 ERA with 87 walks and 147 strikeouts. Opponents hit just .237 off the youngster with 12 total home runs. He committed just 1 year and had a UZR rating of +0.0.

The Arizona Diamondbacks finished in 4th place in the NL West with a record of 77-85.

2011 End of the Year

Congratulations to the Atlanta Braves (93-69) on sweeping the Boston Red Sox and winning the 2011 World Series.

Chris Ticon and Seattle Mariners were beaten 3-1 in the ALDS by the Boston Red Sox.

No one won any awards.

William Cody Perkins, Chris Ticon, and Mike Marks all received one year, $414,000 contracts through automatic renewal.

Through April 30, 2012

2B Mike Marks
Mike Marks is still playing only versus left handed pitchers when there is a DH. It seems he'll need to get out of Washington if he wants solid playing time. He's currently scouted as 3 and a half star overall with 3 and a half star potential.

On the year, Marks has played in 18 games and has a line of .254/.293/.310 with 2 doubles, 1 triple, 5 RBI, 1 SB, and 6 runs scored. He's drawn 4 walks to 15 strikeouts. He's only been in the field once so his defensive numbers aren't enough to report on.

Washington currently sits at 14-8 - tied for first with the Atlanta Braves in the NL East.

Chris Ticon
Chris Ticon is not rated as favorably by the scouts as he once was. He's currently listed as a 1 star overall with 1 star potential. You have to wonder if that's due to the Mariners rushing him to the big leagues.

Ticon only appears in the lineup against right handed pitchers with a DH (good news since he's in the American league). On the year, his line is .320/.358/.640 with 4 doubles, 4 home runs, 12 RBI, 3 stolen bases (1 caught stealing), and 9 runs scored. He's drawn 3 walks to 10 strikeouts. Defensively, he's had no errors through 12 games started with a +0.7 UZR.

The Mariners sit in last place in the AL West with a 9-13 record.

William Cody Perkins
William Cody Perkins is still the #2 starter in Arizona, but has not had a good start to the year. He still projects to be a future ace. Scouts view him as a 4 star overall player with 5 star potential.

On the year, Perkins is 1-4 with an 8.44 ERA in 21.1 innings pitched. He has 15 walks to 26 strikeouts. Unlike last year, opponents are hitting .341 against him. In his 5 starts, he's had no errors and a UZR of +0.1.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are currently 10-12 in the NL West - 8 games out of 1st.

2B Mike Marks
Nothing has changed for Marks in regards to his playing time. Scouts, however, now view him as a 3 star player with 3 star potential. Mike Marks is said to be very unhappy with his role on the team.

Through 37 games, Marks has a .248/.303/.327 line with 3 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run, 10 RBI, 1 stolen base, and 9 runs scored. He's drawn 8 walks to 19 strikeouts. Marks has committed 1 error in 20 games and has a +2.7 UZR rating.

Washington is currently 28-22 - 3 games out of 1st in NL East.

Chris Ticon
Chris Ticon has not had much luck in his short professional career. Once a highly touted prospect, Seattle has absolutely abused him. He's currently played A ball for the High Desert Mavericks. He's said to be very unhappy with the transactions made by the team.

In the majors, Chris had a line of .263/.306/.525 with 6 doubles, 5 home runs, 17 RBI, 3 stolen bases (1 caught stealing), and 11 runs scored. He'd walked 5 times and struck out 17 times.

In A ball, Chris is currently hitting .394/.459/.758 with 6 doubles, 2 home runs, 7 RBI, 1 stolen base, and 5 runs scored. He's walked 3 times and struck one twice. Looks like Chris is absolutely raking in A ball.

The High Desert Mavericks are currently 26-28 - 7 and a half games out of 1st in the South Division.

William Cody Perkins
William Cody Perkins is now the staff ace in Arizona after Ian Kennedy struggled to start the year. Scouts still have the same outlook on Perkins as last month.

Perkins improved his record to 6-5 this month and lowered his ERA to 4.45. He's struck out 67 while walking 38 and brought his opponents batting average down to .228. Defensively, nothing has changed through 11 games.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are currently 25-25 in the NL West - in 3rd place and 5 games out of 1st.

Let's meet the 3 new players we'll be following this year -- and hopefully for many years to come. We'll also get an update on our 2 players from last year - Santiago Cabrera and Jon Dubb - who failed to sign.

SP Santiago Cabrera
A 6'4" 235 pound starting pitcher from Cuba who spent the last year at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The good news is that scouts view the competition level he faced as great. Cabrera went 10-5 with a 2.51 ERA and 173 strike outs for the Tar Heels. He pitched 132.2 innings, walked 59, and held opponents to a .199 batting average.

Scouts think his talent, instinct, and desire to make it as a big leaguer could translate into mid-rotation potential. He still has great stuff and movement, but inconsistent control stil plagues him. Nothing has changed in his personality.

C Jon Dubb
A 6'3" 230 pound catcher from Raleigh, NC who spent the last year at Charleston Southern University. Scouts view the talent level he faced as only average which may hurt him in the draft. Dubb had a .278/.301/.378 line for the Buccaneers with 7 home runs and 54 RBI.

Scouts no longer view Dubb as the impact player he once was. Best case they see him as a future role player on a team. He figures to be an average contact hitter and plus raw power with the chance to be a run producer. He has poor plate discipline, with no signs of improving. Running is still not a factor in his game. He has plus-plus defense behind the plate. Personality wise, he has a tendency to become complacent, and lacks the determination to make the most of his tools. In short, his work ethic is a concern.

Kou "Friend of the People" Kouerson
A 6'1" 197 pound right fielder out of Toronto. Kouerson has a sky-high ceiling and could be a dangerous hitter for years, if he reaches it. He projects as a .330 hitter with plus-plus power potential. He's very patient at the plate and possesses good speed. Defensively, he has good hands and makes difficult plays look easy. He looks to be a true 5-tool player. Oddly enough, the scouts couldn't get a bead on Kou's personality. Seriously. They left the personality/makeup section of their scouting reports blank.

Jack Allen
A 6'2" 220 pound catcher from Louisville, KY. He's similar to Kouerson in that scouts view him with a sky-high ceiling. He also projects as a .330 hitter with plus-plus power. That's where the similarities end. His eye grades as solid, if unspectacular. It could certainly use some work. On speed, scouts just comment that he runs like a catcher - certainly not a compliment. His defense is stellar and scouts view errors as very rare. Personality wise, scouts see Allen as very introverted.

You have to wonder if the presence of this catcher is also hurting the draft stock of Jon Dubb.

Nick Gage
A 6'5" 225 pound first basemen out of Omaha, NE. He's the kind of player you can build a team around and possesses true superstar potential. He has well above-average contact potential, tremendous power potential, and is very patient at the plate. He is tremendous defensively - moves his feet well, has good hands, and throws the ball well. Running might be the weakest part of his game. Personality wise, Gage is a player other guys look up to. He's a good influence to have on a team.

This guy could very well be the #1 overall pick.

---

Personalities were auto-generated. Should be interesting to follow.
