And here's a look after Training Camps:

Overall, a good TC for the Hornets. Tim Duncan stays about the same while Tony Battie may have improved enough to actually take the starting spot from Loy Vaught. Paul Pierce looks to possibly breakout this year in his sophmore season. Penny went down slightly, but should still be the Penny we know and love. Billups will once again be a good 6th man as his handling improves and perhaps his career as a future PG in this league is still a possibility. Weasley also improved back in his handling, which is a nice bonus.

Looking forward to this season and hopefully we can improve on last season's finish with a title!

1999 Regular Season

The Charlotte Hornets pickup where they left off in 1998 - and that's fighting for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. A slow start by the Chicago Bulls allow the Hornets to find themselves in a 3 game lead in the Eastern Confence Standings.

Tim Duncan is having his best seasno yet while Paul Pierce has improved greatly in his sophmore season. Weasley is holding down the fort at point and is doing a good job of being the floor general. Tony Battie struggled starting, and was quickly back on the bench and Loy Vaught was starting again.

Kobe Bryant gets stung! Kobe Bryant was selected by the Lakers in 1996 as their first round lottery pick. Straight out of high school, the Hornets expected Kobe to develop a lot quicker than he has. He has not developed into the all around star he was projected to be, and looks to be more of an outside specialist. He's still very young, but the Hornets are thinking about the future already.

The Hornets trade Kobe Bryant to the Seattle Supersonics for their 2001 1st round pick, 2000 2nd round pick and SG Nate McMillian.

1999 End of Regular Season

Could this be the Hornets year? They've certainly looked good all year long. Former Eastern powerhouse Chicago Bulls have all but faded with Jordan and Pippen not having as good a supporting cast anymore. Duncan finished off his best season yet with 22 points and 11.7 rebounds, second only to Shaq's 13.2 rpg. David Wesley had perhaps his best season as well - his 9.2 apg ias 4th best in the league.

Not only is their 59-23 record best in the East, but it even tops perenial powerhouse Los Angeles Lakers, giving the Hornets homecourt advantage throughout the playoffs. It was a down year for the NBA in general though, only 3 teams above .600 and in the West, two sub-.500 teams made the playoffs.

Has there been a changing of the guard in the NBA? Penny Hardaway outdoes Michael Jordan and earned the SG spot in the 1st team of the NBA All-League team. Two other Hornets made the All-League Team. Wesley was 2nd team and Tim Duncan made third team.

Paul Pierce once again made the 2nd team of the All-Defense team.

Other awards...

Alonzo Mourning dethroned the mighty Shaq to win the 1999 MVP Award.

Shawn Marion ran away with the Rookie of the Year award.

Shawn Bradley took home Defensive Player of the Year for the 3rd time in 4 years.

And 6th man of the year went to the Rocket's Oliver Miller

Nothing much of note...Penny goes up and a few of our reserves go down.

Rumors are flying in Charlotte that Chauncey Billups is requesting a trade...says it was time for him to be a star, but that he wasn't going to do that playing behind Penny.
