With it being Father's Day weekend - I thought we could all reminisce on the greatest television dad's from the Television universe. I'll list the top 10 I could come up with from shows I've watched and grew up with. What would your list look like? 10. Rick Grimes - The Walking Dead A man who has literally killed for his family and is constantly protecting them as well as his people from the ongoing zombie threat. 9. Homer Simpson - The Simpsons I don't watch The Simpsons anymore, but the first 8 seasons or so of the show are great television. Homer was never the smartest dad, but he always meant well and definitely loves his family. 8. Tim Taylor - Home Improvement Speaking of father's who weren't always the smartest - Tim Taylor spent about as much time in the Emergency Room as he did with his family, but like Homer - he always meant well and always had Wilson next door help him in a moment of clarity to help out his parenting skills. 7. Howard Cunningham - Happy Days One of the most classic shows you can find - and you can't have a best father's list without Mr. C 6. Jonathan Kent - Smallville Jonathan Kent would do anything for his son Clark, including dying to protect his secret. 5. Cliff Huxtable - The Cosby Show Cosby broke barriers on TV with his positive depiction of an upper middle-class African American family and is another classic you just can't leave off a list like this. 4. Carl Winslow - Family Matters Carl not only was a good parent for Eddy and Laura, but was also a hard working, honest cop and plus he had to put up with the constant hi-jinks and property damage of Steve Urkel. 3. Alan Matthews - Boy Meets World In a show about a young boys journey into manhood - the father role is a very important character in that journey - and Alan was always there to help Corey in his journey. 2. Danny Tanner - Full House Danny certainly had his hands full with three girls, his brother-in-law, his best friend Joey, and eventually Jesse's wife and twin sons - plus a dog and the next door neighbor Kimmie Gibbler - but he made it work and every episode of Full House ends with a heartfelt moment of clarity and more often than night it was through Danny Tanner. 1. Andy Taylor - The Andy Griffith Show May be a bit bias since he's a local hero in NC - but to me Andy Taylor is the epitome of television fathering - heck the opening credits focus on him walking his son out to go fishing...He was a totally committed single father who lived with and raised his son Opie and with their Aunt Bea. He was a doting father, but still held Opie to a high standard of morality and proper behavior. |

Tim Taylor was the best dad. He wasn't a loser like Alan Matthews, or OCD like Danny Tanner. And Matlock wouldn't let Opie do anything, who would think he's the best? |

How long until we add Corey Matthews once Girl Meets World starts? Is it to early to add him #1 pre-emptively? Another thing, I argue Mr. Feeny was a surrogate father to the Matthews family. He should get an honorable mention. Same with Wilson <3 |

The worst TV dad I can ever remember is Don Draper. GOB Bluth is also one of the worst. Best ones is harder to think of (your list seems good enough) |

OH WAIT. For those who were privileged enough to watch, Eric Taylor has to squeeze in somewhere between 15-10. Buddy Garriity and Mr. McCoy are somewhere around 99999999. |
