Pretty amazing how many good shows listed there that aren't even in the top 31. And I loved Playmakers, but one season wasn't enough for me to bump a show off of my own list. Stupid NFL pressuring ESPN to end the series. |

I had Who's Line is it Anyway, Full House, Fringe, That 70's Show, and The X-Files on my original list of like 40 that I had to weed down <_< I didn't even consider any of the cartoons mentioned so far like the Batman, Spider-Man, etc...even though those were huge for me when I was a kid. But I doubt I'd want to remove anything from my top 10 for them though. |

If we were just counting season 1, Heroes would have been high on my list. Unfortunately, there were 3 seasons after that. |

I finally watched seasons 2-4 a few months ago, and I have to say this show suffered greatly from the writer's strike. Season 2 could have been so much more than what it ended up being, and I actually found parts of the subsequent seasons to be good, but the show lost something from the shortened season #2. And I will always be a fan of Noah Bennet, played by Jack Coleman. I don't care how bad some of the episodes may have gotten, that guy was always one of the better things about the show. |

They were by far my #1 and will always be.. The original shows, and even the 2nd generation (the one done by Fox), were GREAT.. The new one kinda sucks, but its still TMNT. :D |

t-#9: The Office (US) (26 total points) Posted Image Voting breakdown: Two 3rd place votes (16), One 5th place vote (6), One 7th place vote (4) Total episodes: 201 Total seasons: 9 Network: NBC Primetime Emmy Nominations: 42 (5 total wins) Starring cast Steve Carell as "Michael Scott" Posted Image ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rainn Wilson as "Dwight Schrute" Posted Image ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- John Krasinski as "Jim Halpert" Posted Image ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jenna Fischer as "Pam Beesly" Posted Image ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ed Helms as "Andy Bernard" Posted Image ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Notable episodes "The Dundies" (Season 2, episode 1) Posted Image Analysis: The Office hit a rough stretch to begin, as the creative team behind the show struggled to find their own footing throughout the first season (they had a lot to live up to being based on the UK version of the show). It wasn't until this season 2 opener that you started to feel like they knew what they were doing. In this episode, Michael Scott hosts the annual "Dundies", a low tech awards show to hand out office awards to all the members, from "hottest in the office" (Ryan Howard) to the "don't go in there after me bathroom award" (Kevin Malone). What makes this special, however, is the change in dynamics in regards to how the office treats Michael. In the first season, they hated working with him, hated his personality and hated everything about being associated with him. In this episode, when some local patrons begin picking on him, the other office members stand up for him, showing that, while they still think he's an idiot, he's now "their" idiot. A big stepping stone episode here. "Goodbye Toby" (Season 4, episodes 18/19) Posted Image Analysis: The long hatred of Toby by Michael provides much of the humor throughout the series, and there is no happier point for Michael Scott than this episode where Toby decides to move to Costa Rica. He throws an elaborate party in order to celebrate the occasion. The real development in this episode, however, is the introduction of Holly Flax, Toby's replacement. She ends up being a complete carbon copy of Michael's nerdyness and inside jokes and they instantly hit it off. It sets the stage for Michael's eventual exit in the series in Season 7 and gives Michael the happy ending everyone wanted to see him get. "Niagara" (Season 6, episodes 4/5) Posted Image Analysis: The series long Pam and Jim relationship provided the moral backbone of the series, and when they finally got together in the season 3 finale, it was well done in all aspects. While there may be some fans who did not like what became of both of them as the series progressed, there is little doubt that the wedding episode for Jim and Pam is among the most beloved in the series. With Michael's personal touch, it became a fitting Office wedding episode and a fantastic "conclusion" to the Pam and Jim story. Overall analysis: The Office was one of the most popular comedies on the air for much of it's run. The large supporting cast provided great laughs, from Creed's 1 liners to Kevin's stupidity to Angela's up-tightness to Meredith's drunk behavior, there was not a bad fit in the cast throughout most of the shows run. By developing a wide variety of characters and putting them in hilarious situations, the Office will be remembered for it's laughs, emotional moments and great goodbye send offs (two episodes not mentioned, Goodbye Michael and the finale, were both arguably the 2 best episodes of the entire series). The Office was one of my favorite tv shows of all time and I am happy to see it land so high up on this list. Coming tomorrow: Show #9 |

t-#9: Friday Night Lights (26 total points) Posted Image Voting breakdown: One 1st place vote (10), One 4th place vote (7), One 5th place vote (6), One 8th place vote (3) Total episodes: 76 Total seasons: 5 Network: NBC/DirecTV 101 Network Primetime Emmy Nominations: 13 (3 total wins) Starring cast Kyle Chandler as "Eric Taylor" Posted Image ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Connie Britton as "Tami Taylor" Posted Image ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Taylor Kitsch as "Tim Riggins" Posted Image ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Zach Gilford as "Matt Saracen" Posted Image ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scott Porter as "Jason Street" Posted Image ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Notable episodes (with analysis from MSC) "The Son" (Season 4, episode 5) Posted Image Analysis: This episode won the series its first and only Emmy nomination for writing. Former quarterback Matt Saracen struggles to grieve over the death of his absentee father. Matt goes through seemingly every stage of grief in this episode. "Pilot" (Season 1, episode 1) Posted Image Analysis: Introduces the audience to Texas high school football and coach Eric Taylor. Star quarterback Jason Street throws an interception in the season opener. After making the touchdown saving tackle, Street suffers a horrific spinal injury forcing back-up Matt Saracen into the game. After 5 seasons, this episode still sticks out to me as one of the best of the series mostly for the shock factor. "Tomorrow's Blues/East of Dillon" (Season 3/4, episodes 13/1) Posted Image Analysis: The season three finale and season four premiere belong together. Season three ends with Coach Taylor getting fired at West Dillon due to small town politics and hired at the "expansion" East Dillon. We get introduced to a whole slew of new problems for the Taylor family - poor funding, low income kids, and for Coach Taylor, generally poor talent. Probably helped keep the show interesting by introducing a bit of bad news for the seemingly perfect Taylor family and arguably was a second "pilot" for the show. Overall analysis: Friday Night Lights was a very influential show (one of the first shows to actual extend beyond basic network/cable due to it's deal with DirecTV). It never was able to gain a huge audience, but some of the best shows don't, and FNL had such a dedicated fan base that it lasted far longer than its ratings would have allowed it to otherwise. Featuring a large ensemble cast starring the first two listed in this post, FNL will live on for years, possibly in other formats as well (a movie sequel is in the works). Being listed on four different ballots shows that around 20% of EBL'ers who voted love the show, and there's a good chance many others would as well if they watched. It could be another show that gains popularity the longer it's off the air. Regardless, it's left a big impression on it's fan base and deserves this top 10 spot. Coming tomorrow: Show #8 |
