Pretty amazing how many good shows listed there that aren't even in the top 31.

And I loved Playmakers, but one season wasn't enough for me to bump a show off of my own list.

Stupid NFL pressuring ESPN to end the series.

I had Who's Line is it Anyway, Full House, Fringe, That 70's Show, and The X-Files on my original list of like 40 that I had to weed down <_<

I didn't even consider any of the cartoons mentioned so far like the Batman, Spider-Man, etc...even though those were huge for me when I was a kid. But I doubt I'd want to remove anything from my top 10 for them though.

t-#30: Family Guy (11 total points)

While some may say Family Guy has fallen off quality wise, it still manages to crack the top half of this list due to it's past.

Quote:

t-#30: Community (11 total points)

It's fitting that Community barely gets any votes here (look at the tv ratings for it), but Community has been a comedy that is not afraid to devote entire episodes to obscure references, something other shows simply will not do. It is what it is and doesn't apologize for it and has found a niche audience due to it.

Quote:

t-#27: The Fresh Prince of Bel Air (12 total points)

The launching pad of Will Smith, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air provided many laughs and most notably (to me anyway), an amazing theme song that will live on forever.

Quote:

t-#27: The Big Bang Theory (12 total points)

The most popular comedy on TV today, it falls short of the top 25 in this list but still appeared on 4 different ballots.

Quote:

t-#27: Saturday Night Live (12 total points)

Probably the most unique show in TV history (look at all the failed copycats), SNL continues to churn out star after star and be a giant hit every season.

Quote:

#26: Mythbusters (13 total points)

The show title speaks for itself as two special effects experts tests various myths and such in this popular TV show.

Quote:

t-#23: The Walking Dead (14 total points)

The zombie drama based on the comic book of the same name, The Walking Dead finished #1 among adults 18-49 in ratings last year and provides much more than just zombie killing weekly (although there's a lot of that).

Quote:

t-#23: Heroes (14 total points)

The controversial science fiction drama ran four seasons and made a lasting impact (both positive and negative) among it's fans and critics.

Quote:

t-#23: Home Improvement (14 total points)

The sitcom starring Tim Allen was one of the most popular of it's time and launched the careers of many of it's actors.

Quote:

t-#20: The West Wing (15 total points)

The 4 time Emmy winner for best drama series, the show about the President of the United States and his staff was popular among fans and critics alike.

Quote:

t-#20: The Shield (15 total points)

A show about corrupt police officers, The Shield provided the drama and acting to give it's fans consistently entertaining television.

Quote:

t-#20: NCIS (15 total points)

The long running drama about a team of special agents starring Mark Harmon, NCIS continues to be one of the most popular shows on TV today.

Quote:

#19: Supernatural (16 total points)

The series about many types of supernatural beings (anything you can think of) being battled by 2 brothers has lasted 8 seasons and is still going strong.

Quote:

#18: Chuck (17 total points)

The action comedy struggled for years to stay on the air, but it made it through 5 seasons and satisfied it's fans all the way through

Quote:

#17: Arrested Development (18 total points)

Loved by a niche group of fans (who helped secure new episodes this year after a long absence), Arrested Development doesn't have a broad appeal but it still was good enough to place 17th on this list.

Quote:

#16: The Simpsons (19 total points)

Arguably the most popular animated show of all time, The Simpsons falls just shy of the top 15 on the favorite TV shows list of EBL'ers.

I finally watched seasons 2-4 a few months ago, and I have to say this show suffered greatly from the writer's strike. Season 2 could have been so much more than what it ended up being, and I actually found parts of the subsequent seasons to be good, but the show lost something from the shortened season #2. And I will always be a fan of Noah Bennet, played by Jack Coleman. I don't care how bad some of the episodes may have gotten, that guy was always one of the better things about the show.

t-#14: The Wire (20 total points)

Posted Image

Total episodes: 60
Total seasons: 5
Network: HBO

Mofo Analysis: One of the most critically acclaimed shows of all time (despite never winning an Emmy during it's entire run), The Wire was a show that realistically portrayed the drug game in the Baltimore and Maryland areas. There was the point of view from the drug lords themselves, the dealers, the addicts, and the cops that tried to put them behind bars. Each season focused on a different entity of the city (Season 1 was the drug trade, Season 2 was the seaport system, Season 3 was the city government, Season 4 was the school system, and Season 5 was the news media). The show developed it's characters so much that you cared what happened to the lowest of low people. The Wire will live on as one of the most influential TV shows in history.

t-#14: WWE Monday Night Raw (20 total points)

Posted Image

Total episodes: 1,062
Network: USA & Spike TV/TNN

Mofo analysis: Some people may scoff at a wrestling show finishing so high, but there is no doubt the impact it has had in many EBL'ers lives (and you could argue EBL would never exist without it). It is a different format show than "regular" shows because it has no off-season and is a weekly episodic show. From Shawn Michaels to the Undertaker to Stone Cold Steve Austin to The Rock to Triple H to John Cena to CM Punk, stars have come and gone during the 20+ years it has been on the air. Many memorable gimmicks, matches and segments have occurred and in my opinion, it deserves to be this high on the list. It changed the entertainment industry forever.

Quote:

t-#12: Friends (22 total points)

Posted Image

Total episodes: 236
Total seasons: 10
Network: NBC

Mofo analysis: While I did not watch Friends, I know many people loved it (and for good reason). Ever since it became a giant hit, networks have constantly been looking for the "new" Friends (a group of 20/30 something friends in funny situations), but nothing will be able to match the perfect storm that this show ended up becoming. It launched the career of it's 6 stars (some more than others) and it's series finale was the 4th most viewed finale of all time (and the most watched episode of the 2000s). It's impact on society is well known, with each of the characters nuances becoming popular to imitate. Overall, it was one of the most popular sitcoms of all time and will live on for a long time in syndication, bringing in a whole new group of fans every day.

#t-12: Sons of Anarchy (22 total points)

Posted Image

Total episodes: 70
Total seasons: 6
Network: FX

Mofo analysis (with some Tyler help): One of the most popular FX dramas of all time, Sons of Anarchy is known as "that show about bikers", but it is much more than that. From great twists and cliffhangers, to going that extra mile that other shows simply will not go, Sons of Anarchy continues to be a show loved by EBL'ers and it's other audience members. Are you a fan of great cliffhangers and twists? A fan of amazing character development? Or just love a great drama? Sons of Anarchy is a mix of everything you'd look for and though it may not be for everyone, it is a show that it's fanbase swears by, and that says a lot about it (many fans watch shows but will not swear by them to the end). It's well deserving of it's spot on this list.

#11: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (24 total points)

Posted Image

Total episodes: 193
Total seasons: 10
Network: Syndication

Mofo analysis: The highest rated animated show on this list, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has always been one of the most popular kids themed show/toys/etc. and it clearly made a big impact on EBL'ers growing up. The show about four anthropomorphic turtles who were trained in ninja by their also anthropomorphic rat sensai, they fought bad guys ranging from street thugs to aliens. Leonardo, Michaelangelo, Donatello and Ralphael are household names for those of us who grew up on the Ninja Turtles and with a new animated series right now, TMNT will live on to a new generation of kids as well.

t-#9: The Office (US) (26 total points)

Voting breakdown: Two 3rd place votes (16), One 5th place vote (6), One 7th place vote (4)

Total episodes: 201
Total seasons: 9
Network: NBC
Primetime Emmy Nominations: 42 (5 total wins)

Starring cast

Steve Carell as "Michael Scott"

Notable episodes

"The Dundies" (Season 2, episode 1)

Posted Image

Analysis: The Office hit a rough stretch to begin, as the creative team behind the show struggled to find their own footing throughout the first season (they had a lot to live up to being based on the UK version of the show). It wasn't until this season 2 opener that you started to feel like they knew what they were doing. In this episode, Michael Scott hosts the annual "Dundies", a low tech awards show to hand out office awards to all the members, from "hottest in the office" (Ryan Howard) to the "don't go in there after me bathroom award" (Kevin Malone). What makes this special, however, is the change in dynamics in regards to how the office treats Michael. In the first season, they hated working with him, hated his personality and hated everything about being associated with him. In this episode, when some local patrons begin picking on him, the other office members stand up for him, showing that, while they still think he's an idiot, he's now "their" idiot. A big stepping stone episode here.

"Goodbye Toby" (Season 4, episodes 18/19)

Posted Image

Analysis: The long hatred of Toby by Michael provides much of the humor throughout the series, and there is no happier point for Michael Scott than this episode where Toby decides to move to Costa Rica. He throws an elaborate party in order to celebrate the occasion. The real development in this episode, however, is the introduction of Holly Flax, Toby's replacement. She ends up being a complete carbon copy of Michael's nerdyness and inside jokes and they instantly hit it off. It sets the stage for Michael's eventual exit in the series in Season 7 and gives Michael the happy ending everyone wanted to see him get.

"Niagara" (Season 6, episodes 4/5)

Posted Image

Analysis: The series long Pam and Jim relationship provided the moral backbone of the series, and when they finally got together in the season 3 finale, it was well done in all aspects. While there may be some fans who did not like what became of both of them as the series progressed, there is little doubt that the wedding episode for Jim and Pam is among the most beloved in the series. With Michael's personal touch, it became a fitting Office wedding episode and a fantastic "conclusion" to the Pam and Jim story.

Overall analysis: The Office was one of the most popular comedies on the air for much of it's run. The large supporting cast provided great laughs, from Creed's 1 liners to Kevin's stupidity to Angela's up-tightness to Meredith's drunk behavior, there was not a bad fit in the cast throughout most of the shows run. By developing a wide variety of characters and putting them in hilarious situations, the Office will be remembered for it's laughs, emotional moments and great goodbye send offs (two episodes not mentioned, Goodbye Michael and the finale, were both arguably the 2 best episodes of the entire series). The Office was one of my favorite tv shows of all time and I am happy to see it land so high up on this list.

t-#9: Friday Night Lights (26 total points)

Posted Image

Voting breakdown: One 1st place vote (10), One 4th place vote (7), One 5th place vote (6), One 8th place vote (3)

Total episodes: 76
Total seasons: 5
Network: NBC/DirecTV 101 Network
Primetime Emmy Nominations: 13 (3 total wins)

Starring cast

Kyle Chandler as "Eric Taylor"

Posted Image

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Connie Britton as "Tami Taylor"

Posted Image

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Taylor Kitsch as "Tim Riggins"

Posted Image

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Zach Gilford as "Matt Saracen"

Posted Image

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Scott Porter as "Jason Street"

Posted Image

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Notable episodes (with analysis from MSC)

"The Son" (Season 4, episode 5)

Posted Image

Analysis: This episode won the series its first and only Emmy nomination for writing. Former quarterback Matt Saracen struggles to grieve over the death of his absentee father. Matt goes through seemingly every stage of grief in this episode.

"Pilot" (Season 1, episode 1)

Posted Image

Analysis: Introduces the audience to Texas high school football and coach Eric Taylor. Star quarterback Jason Street throws an interception in the season opener. After making the touchdown saving tackle, Street suffers a horrific spinal injury forcing back-up Matt Saracen into the game. After 5 seasons, this episode still sticks out to me as one of the best of the series mostly for the shock factor.

"Tomorrow's Blues/East of Dillon" (Season 3/4, episodes 13/1)

Posted Image

Analysis: The season three finale and season four premiere belong together. Season three ends with Coach Taylor getting fired at West Dillon due to small town politics and hired at the "expansion" East Dillon. We get introduced to a whole slew of new problems for the Taylor family - poor funding, low income kids, and for Coach Taylor, generally poor talent. Probably helped keep the show interesting by introducing a bit of bad news for the seemingly perfect Taylor family and arguably was a second "pilot" for the show.

Overall analysis: Friday Night Lights was a very influential show (one of the first shows to actual extend beyond basic network/cable due to it's deal with DirecTV). It never was able to gain a huge audience, but some of the best shows don't, and FNL had such a dedicated fan base that it lasted far longer than its ratings would have allowed it to otherwise. Featuring a large ensemble cast starring the first two listed in this post, FNL will live on for years, possibly in other formats as well (a movie sequel is in the works). Being listed on four different ballots shows that around 20% of EBL'ers who voted love the show, and there's a good chance many others would as well if they watched. It could be another show that gains popularity the longer it's off the air. Regardless, it's left a big impression on it's fan base and deserves this top 10 spot.

Coming tomorrow: Show #8
