t-#9 Posted Image Orange is the New Black (21)
Main Cast Members: Taylor Schilling as "Piper Chapman" Posted Image Laura Prepon as "Alex Vause" Posted Image Michael J Harney as "Sam Healy" Posted Image Michelle Hurst as "Miss Claudette" Posted Image Kate Mulgrew as Galina "Red" Reznikov Posted Image Jason Biggs as "Larry Bloom" Posted Image -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Additional Analysis: The hit new comedy/drama from Weeds creator Jenji Kohan, Orange is the New Black came out of nowhere out of the shadows of Netflix's other big hits and became one of the most critically acclaimed series of 2013. The show started as a starring vehicle for it's main character Piper Chapman as we see her enter prison on a 15 month sentence for smuggling drugs years ago, but the series develops into a rich story of the women around her in this prison and what they were like before prison, how they got there, and how they are dealing with being there now. Extremely well written character development changes the way you think about these characters from the beginning of the season to the end and it has arguably the best and deepest ensemble cast on TV. A surprise breakout hit this year, the EBL community agrees and it manages to crack the top 10 this year. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coming Friday: Show t-#9 |

t-#9 Posted Image Brooklyn Nine-Nine (21)
Main Cast Members: Andy Samberg as "Detective Jake Peralta" Posted Image Andre Braugher as "Captain Ray Holt" Posted Image Stephanie Beatriz as "Detective Rosa Diaz" Posted Image Terry Crews as "Sergeant Terry Jeffords" Posted Image Melissa Fumero as "Detective Amy Santiago" Posted Image Joe Lo Truglio as "Detective Charles Boyle" Posted Image Chelsea Peretti as "Administrator Gina Linetti" Posted Image -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Additional Analysis: A brand new critically acclaimed comedy from the creator of Parks & Recreation (and Mose from The Office), Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a show about an immature detective (Samberg) who is dealt a blow to his comedy antics when a new captain (Braugher) is brought in and changes the way the station is run. Just like in Parks & Recreation, the supporting cast is top notch, from the hard ass but loyal Diaz to the comedy buffoon Boyle to the over the top comedy antics of Terry to the dry humor of Gina, stories each week give them a lot to do and they all usually shine. Though it only appeared on 3 ballots, it managed to rack up enough points to climb to the top 10 of this years favorite TV shows, and as more people catch on to the show, something tells me it will remain a mainstay in the top 10 in the future. It is a very funny show that I would encourage everyone to watch. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coming Saturday: Show t-#9 |

t-#9 Posted Image Revolution (21)
Main Cast Members: Billy Burke as "Miles Matheson" Posted Image Tracy Spiridakos as "Charlie Matheson" Posted Image Elizabeth Mitchell as "Rachel Matheson" Posted Image Zak Orth as "Aaron Pittman" Posted Image Giancarlo Esposito as "Tom Neville" Posted Image J.D. Pardo as "Jason Neville" Posted Image David Lyons as "Sebastian Monroe" Posted Image -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Additional Analysis: A second year TV show (the second half of season 1 and the first half of season 2 aired in 2013), Revolution takes place in a world 15 years after the power went out (for reasons gradually revealed) and how the world deals with it, through various militias and rebel groups. Revolution has become one of the most improved shows on TV in its 2nd year. There were no doubt some problems with the show early on (Maggie, Danny, Nora, Charlie) but the show either got rid of most of the problems or fixed them with better writing. What you are left with this season is a very entertaining show that has found its focus and developed characters that its audience likes. The result on EBL's favorite TV shows is a placing in the top 10, appearing on 3 ballots overall. Mixing Sci-Fi elements and strong character development, Revolution has nonetheless struggled in the ratings and may not be back for Season 3. It would be a shame, as EBL'ers and other viewers alike agree the show has improved a lot and we'd be anxious to see where it goes from here. If it does return, there's a good chance it stays high on this list as more people catch on to its improvement. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coming Sunday: Show #8 |

#8 Posted Image Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (23)
Main Cast Members: Clark Gregg as "Phil Coulson" Posted Image Ming-Na Wen as "Melinda May" Posted Image Brett Dalton as "Grant Ward" Posted Image Chloe Bennet as "Skye" Posted Image Iain De Caestecker as "Leo Fitz" Posted Image Elizabeth Henstridge as "Jemma Simmons" Posted Image -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Additional Analysis: From the same Marvel universe as The Avengers and all of it's side stories comes Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Starring Phil Coulson (whose return from apparent death in The Avengers is a main storyline through 10 episodes) and including a wide range of different types of Agents, SHIELD is a show about the mystery happenings throughout the world that have to do with things such as super soldiers, mysterious venoms and alien invasions. It is no surprise that it made the top 10 in EBL's favorite tv shows of 2013 as its target demographic falls right in line with EBL's. Created partially by Joss Whedon (who also directed the pilot), SHIELD has been picked up for a full season and seems likely to last on TV for years to come with its initial ratings. Expect to see many more tie ins as it goes along with the Marvel movies (there's already been a few) and that alone makes Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. a very unique show for its viewers to watch. It is already the third new show of the fall season to make the top 10, and by placing on 4 ballots this year, it has earned its spot in the top 10. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coming Monday: Show #7 |

#7 Posted Image Sleepy Hollow (26)
Main Cast Members: Tom Mison as "Ichabod Crane" Posted Image Nicole Beharie as "Lt. Grace Abigail Mills" Posted Image Orlando Jones as "Captain Frank Irving" Posted Image Katia Winter as "Katrina Crane" Posted Image -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Additional Analysis: A surprise hit for Fox this year, Sleepy Hollow is a modern day re-telling of the ancient short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and though it only places on 3 lists in the EBL top 10 voting, it gets placed very high, leading to its placement as the 7th favorite TV show of 2013 among EBL'ers. The fact that it stars 2 relative unknowns and has become such a hit among viewers is a testament to its concept, writing and appeal. The comedy itself is built in with a man from the 18th century now working together with present day detectives as they team up due to a killing spree initiated by the Headless Horseman. The fact this show was created by two of the men behind Fringe show that the creative aspect of the show has a good chance to stay strong, as they did a very good job with the supernatural elements on Fringe. It has also already been renewed for a 2nd season, ensuring it has a solid chance of repeating in the top 10 next year at this time. Overall, it has earned its place in the top 10 with its unique and strong storytelling. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coming Tuesday: Show #6 |

#6 Posted Image Sons of Anarchy (29)
Main Cast Members: Charlie Hunnam as "Jax Teller" Posted Image Katey Sagal as "Gemma Teller Morrow" Posted Image Ron Pearlman as "Clay Morrow" Posted Image Maggie Siff as "Dr. Tara Knowles-Teller" Posted Image Mark Boone Junior as "Bobby Elvis Munson" Posted Image Kim Coates as "Tig Trager" Posted Image Tommy Flanagan as "Chibs Telford" Posted Image Theo Rossi as "Juice Ortiz" Posted Image Dayton Collie as "Wayne Unser" Posted Image Jimmy Smits as "Nero Padilla" Posted Image -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Additional Analysis: The first show on this list this year to make it on the previous years list (and the one before that), Sons of Anarchy continues to be very popular among EBL'ers (though it dropped 4 places from last year to this). Regardless, the show about a close-knit group of an outlaw motorcycle club focusing on the star of the show, "Jax", Sons of Anarchy entered its sixth year on FX and remained one of their most popular shows on the network. With a large main cast this season (10 in all, the most of any show listed so far), SOA finds a way to develop new characters and keep the show fresh as it goes along, maintaining the interest of the its audience. With rumors that Season 7 next year may be its last, SOA is likely going to try to go out on a high note. It remains to be seen what happens to it, but I'd guess there's a good chance it is on the 2014 favorite TV shows as well. There's no reason to think it won't remain just as popular among the EBL crowd. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coming Wednesday: Show #5 |

#5 Posted Image The Big Bang Theory (31)
Main Cast Members: Johnny Galecki as "Dr. Leonard Hofstadter" Posted Image Jim Parsons as "Dr. Sheldon Cooper" Posted Image Kaley Cuoco as "Penny" Posted Image Simon Helberg as "Howard Wolowitz" Posted Image Kunal Nayyar as "Dr. Rajesh Koothrappali" Posted Image Mayim Bialik as "Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler" Posted Image Melissa Rauch as "Dr. Bernadette Rostenkowski-Wolowitz" Posted Image -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Additional Analysis: One of the most popular shows on TV right now, it is no surprise The Big Bang Theory is also popular among the EBL crowd as it makes its 3rd straight top 5 appearance on this list. The show about the life of "nerds" and an attractive neighbor who moves in, The Big Bang Theory has developed into a very reliably funny show week in and out as we examine the socially awkward Sheldon, the straight man Leonard, the ladies man turned married man Howard and the one who can't talk to women without being drunk, Raj. As the series developed, Amy and Bernadette were added and they fit in very well with the cast dynamic, giving new storylines for the show to work with. Though it is hated by many (for a variety of reasons), it is obviously liked by more and with it's ratings, it is going nowhere for the foreseeable future. Likeable characters (except Sheldon at times), funny storylines and a good collection of supporting characters, The Big Bang Theory finishes as the 3rd highest comedy in this years favorite TV shows. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coming Thursday: Show #4 |

#4 Posted Image How I Met Your Mother (32)
Main Cast Members: Josh Radnor as "Ted Mosby" Posted Image Jason Segel as "Marshall Eriksen" Posted Image Alyson Hannigan as "Lily Aldrin" Posted Image Cobie Smulders as "Robin Scherbatsky" Posted Image Neil Patrick Harris as "Barney Stinson" Posted Image Cristin Milioti as "The Mother" Posted Image -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Additional Analysis: The reigning 2 time winner of EBL's favorite TV shows of the year, How I Met Your Mother falls 3 spots this year, ensuring we will have a brand new #1. While some would say the quality of the show has dropped off, there is no doubt the popularity it has among EBL viewers as it is in it's final season. HIMYM took the bold step at the end of Season 8 and introduced the mother, and this season has spent time with her as the audience gets to know her better before she ultimately meets Ted (likely in the series finale). Most of the end of season 8 and season 9 has been about Robin and Barney's upcoming wedding, where the meeting ultimately will take place. With the series finale a little less than 3 months away, HIMYM's time of being eligible on this list runs out next year, but with HIMYM's unique style, it will certainly not be forgotten by its fans when it is gone. Hopefully, it ends on a high note and places high once again next year on this list. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coming Friday: Show #3 |

#3 Posted Image Parks & Recreation (34)
Main Cast Members: Amy Poehler as "Leslie Knope" Posted Image Adam Scott as "Ben Wyatt" Posted Image Aziz Ansari as "Tom Haverford" Posted Image Rashida Jones as "Ann Perkins" Posted Image Nick Offerman as "Ron Swanson" Posted Image Aubrey Plaza as "April Ludgate" Posted Image Chris Pratt as "Andy Dwyer" Posted Image Rob Lowe as "Chris Traeger" Posted Image -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Additional Analysis: Once again finishing in the top 3 (3 years running), Parks & Recreation also finishes as the highest ranked comedy among all voted on shows in this years favorite TV shows list. Now in its 6th season, Parks & Recreation has not missed a beat as it continues to incorporate one of the best ensembles on TV and continues to give them very rewarding and funny storylines. Though it continues to struggle in the ratings, it remains NBC's highest rated comedy and that is a big reason why it has made it so far. Starring Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope, Deputy Director of the Parks & Recreation department of Pawnee, Indiana, Parks & Rec has given their characters much to do this past year, from Leslie's ongoing City Council duties, to Tom's clothing store, to Ron's new love life and upcoming child, to Andy and April's continued developments both professional and personal, to Ann and Chris getting back together and having a baby (and the 2 leaving the show in 2014), Parks & Rec continues to be one of the best comedies on TV and according to EBL voters, it was the best one in 2013. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coming Saturday: Show #2 |

#2 Posted Image Person of Interest (43)
Main Cast Members: Jim Caviezel as "John Reese" Posted Image Michael Emerson as "Harold Finch" Posted Image Taraji P. Henson as "Detective Joss Carter" Posted Image Kevin Chapman as "Detective Lionel Fusco" Posted Image Sarah Shahi as "Samantha Shaw" Posted Image Amy Acker as "Root" Posted Image -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Additional Analysis: Now in it's 3rd season, Person of Interest makes a huge climb and a good effort at the #1 spot among EBL's favorite TV shows of 2013, falling short at #2. Regardless, there is no denying how popular it has become with EBL viewers, and the recent run of episodes were some of the best TV work done in years, if I say so myself. The show about a brilliant tech billionaire who has created a machine that detects acts of violence that are coming up (whether the victim or perpetrator is identified doesn't become known until the episode goes along), Harold Finch recruits John Reese out of his depressed somber and together the two save people and take down various bad groups. Detectives Carter and Fusco end up helping them as the series goes on, and eventually Shaw does as well. Root becomes one of the show's best villains and ends up as a series regular starting in Season 3 as well. Person of Interest does a great job creating a wide variety of villains (all together, probably the best collection on TV), but not in a way that feels overwhelming. It packs create story development with characters you like (including great supporting characters that show up every now and then) and in my opinion, is the best current show on TV. It has earned its spot this high on the 2013 favorite TV shows list. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Coming Sunday: Show #1 |
