So last year I did a top ten featuring EBL's top ten WrestleMania matches of all time (click here). This year I wanted to do something a little different, so I wanted to get a list together of the community's worst mania matches. Given the recent hate that the WWE has gotten, with good reason, I thought this would be very appropriate. So here's the set-up. Between now and Friday night sometime, anyone that wants to can PM me a list of their top ten worst WrestleMania matches. Matches at #1 will get 10 points, #2 will get 9 points, and so on. I will add up the points for each match and post the results. The more lists the merrier. Rules 1. Lists must be complete, 1-10, #1 being the worst. 2. No ties on your lists, although there could be ties in the final results. 3. Deadline is some time Friday night, so I can spend Saturday tallying the votes and revealing the results. |

Honorable Mentions (matches receiving multiple votes outside of the top ten) Jake Roberts vs. Rick Martel - Blindfold Match - Wrestle Mania 7 (Two-9th place votes) Butterbean vs. Bart Gunn - Brawl for All - Wrestle Mania 15 (One-seventh place vote, one-ninth place vote, one-tenth place vote) ---------- #10 - Triple H vs. Randy Orton Posted Image Wrestle Mania 25 Votes: 1 Let no one ever tell you only one vote does not count, because this match got in one the power of a single first place vote. So why is this match bad? Everything. The build up for the match was not very good. The placement on the card wasa killer, following one of th ebest matches period in the history of the company. Also add to the fact that you had an older veteran in Triple H go over a young guy who was arguably at the highest point in his career. ---------- #9 - Bret Hart vs. Vince McMahon Posted Image Wrestle Mania 26 Votes: 6, 7, 9 I just watched this match for the first time recently, and a few things stood out to me. The first thing more than anything else was the completely god-awful overbooking of the end of the match. The second thing that I can say is that this match shouldn't have taken place at all unless it was about ten years (or more) earlier. You have a guy who is a shadow of himself due to age, injury, and illness (if you call a stroke illness). Then you put him in a match people have hypothetically been wanting to see since late 1997 against the evil bastard that screwed him over. The problem being that this was supposed to be a high profile match where Vince got his ass kicked by Bret; only the people that cared about such things were about 14 years older and had moved on. Hell, some of the fans in the arena probably looked to their parents and wondered why the two grandpas in the ring were "fighting". Seriously, a good number of the fans of the WWE at the time weren't even alive when Vince screwed Bret. ---------- #8 - 25 Diva Battle Royale Posted Image Wrestle Mania 25 Votes: 2, 8 I know there is this prevailing feeling that as many people as possible should get to be on the card at Wrestle Mania, but come on. I think Santino actually ended up winning this, but I don't want to watch a mess like this with another one on the horizon. you'd think the WWE would stay away from such things, but I guess not. ---------- #7 - Jerry Lawler vs. Michael Cole Posted Image Wrestle Mania 27 Votes: 1, 5, 6, 7, 10 The first match on the list to feature on five different lists, and there's little doubt as to why. I do not have a problem with putting this match on the card. Heel Michael Cole was such a dick to Jerry Lawler that I was actually looking forward to seeing Lawler get his hands on Cole, kick his ass, and get a Wrestle Mania moment. Instead we got a Dusty finish. Yes, the payoff for this entire thing is that Jerry Lawler won, only to have the win overturned by the laptop GM (thanks a lot Baldwin). The ending of this match was just bad. ---------- #6 - Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus Posted Image Wrestle Mania 28 Votes: 4, 5, 6, 6, 7 So, where to start. In the scope of 18 seconds, the WWE cheapened it's other world title even more than it already had and completely set Daniel Bryan back by securely placing him into a feud with AJ. When I spend 50+ dollars of hard earned money on a PPV featuring a title match between the guy that won the EPIC Royal Rumble and the World Heavyweight title, I expect more than an 18 second story line advancement. ---------- #5 - Undertaker vs. Big Bossman Posted Image Wrestle Mania 15 Votes: 2, 3, 4, 5, 10 This was arguably Undertakers second worst Wrestle Mania match. If this match had not been a Hell in a Cell match, I don't think it would be seen as it now is. when you have a match of that type, you have certain expectations, and to be honest, none of them were met. On top of that, Bossman was too far gone to be of any use in singles matches. About the only thing I actually liked about the match was the hanging at the end, but even that garners some hate from people. ---------- #4 - Hulk Hogan vs. Yokozuna Posted Image Wrestle Mania 9 Votes: 2, 2, 5, 6, 8 There have been so many words written about this match, I could not possibly add anything to them. This is a very infamous moment in wrestling history, not just Wrestle Mania history. I am just glad that Bret Hart and Yokozuna recovered from the massive leg drop Hogan dropped on their credibility. ---------- #3 - Akebono vs. Big Show Posted Image Wrestle Mania 21 Votes: 3, 4, 4, 4, 6 One of a couple matches to feature Big Show hilariously taking on real-life athletes. This "match" was awful, just awful. I think the biggest reason is because no one wants to buy Wrestle mania and see Big Show in a diaper. A lot was made of this match, and I understand the WWE reaching out to other areas to grab press for their big show, but come on. Big Show is supposed to be this big huge monster that completely destroys, and you put him in a sumo wrestling match against one of the greatest sumo wrestlers of all time. What did people expect was going to happen? ---------- #2 - Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg Posted Image Wrestle Mania 20 Votes: 1, 1, 1, 8, 9 This was the first time I realized that no matter how good something might sound, sometimes the reality of it is far less desireable. This was my personal #1 because this match was so much less than what it could have been. Before the match you had the news that both men would be leaving, assuring the fans that the match was pretty much meaningless. The crowd shit all over the thing, sucking all the wind out. Not even the inclusion of Stone Cold helped. Both guys weren't out there and walked through the match as if they were still planning it, and the only thing that saved any of the match at all was Stone Cold giving a stunner to both men. ---------- #1 - Giant Gonzalez vs. Undertaker Posted Image Wrestle Mania 9 Votes: 1, 2, 2, 2, 3, 10 Our number one match is the only one to be on all 6 lists, and for good reason. For as much play as Undertakers streak gets, this match is surely a blemish. I cannot sit through this match at all without cringing. In principle it was interesting to be sure. You had Undertaker, the phenom, who had been tearing through the WWF and striking fear into people. He had not faced someone the size of Giant Gonzalez, so as a fan, especially a young fan at the time, I was hyped. If I remember correctly (I try to block this match out), Undertaker got beat up, then knocked out with a cloth soaked in ether, and then after being out for a while, he was resurrected by the power of the urn and got some measure of revenge. I'd say the only good thing about this match was the Undertakers entrance with the buzzard. That shit was cool. |

This list sure is awful. Hopefully nobody ever sees any of these... My personal #1 was Cole/Lawler. I just don't see how anything could possibly be worse than that... THEN, NOW, FOREVER |

Wooo Undertaker wins! ... For the record I was the HHH vs. Orton hater. Hate practically everything about that match except for HHH's entrance. They JUST got through a feud that had Two Last Man Standing Matches in 2007 and 2008. How did a feud where HHH broke into Orton's home and Orton KOed and kissed Stephanie end up being a straight wrestling match. How did HHH go over?! How did it just end with a flat pedigree? It's on my top 10 of worst big matches ever as well I think. Edited by RDT, Apr 5 2014, 07:49 PM.
