Well if you want to break it down in years:

Stone Cold won the majority of main events in 1998, 1999, and 2001

John Cena won the majority of main events in 2006, 2007, 2010, 2011, and 2012.

Stone Cold's main event run lasted from 1998 to 2001, four years.

John Cena's has lasted from 2006 lets say, until now.

Also, during Stone Cold's time at the top, The Rock, Mankind, Triple H, and Kurt Angle rose to the top of the card. Hell, even Jericho officially went main event during that time. All of these guys were helped to the top in some part by Austin.

CM Punk was not elevated by Cena. Edge is arguable by some, including me. Orton and Batista were elevated by Triple H first. Punk was already over thanks to feuds with Edga and Jeff Hardy. the only guy I can say without a doubt Cena helped to actually make into a star was Sheamus.

Lol Sheamus.

I still say a Cena heel turn as the ultimate "company" man is much needed.

CM Punk was easily established as a main event guy with his feud against Jeff Hardy in late 2009. Hell, even before that he was already cheered as one of the under card guys that needed a shot.

Punk was so established that he was leading the new nexus and getting buried by Randy Orton....

See, now you are confusing how he was booked with how over the man was. There's a difference :shifty:

By the way, for some clarification on the whole Cena putting Daniel Bryan over? How is Cena coming out and saying that Bryan was the better man, then showing his swollen elbow to the world doing anything but making an excuse for the loss? Hell, the man even did the same thing to the Rock before their rematch. he claimed he was just "off his game" when the Rock beat him.

I don't think Punk was main event level over until the pipebomb promo.

Even with that, it was the promo he cut that got him to that level not his win over Cena afterwards.

Punk was floundering between the SES, and the New Nexus in 2011. He was a main eventer no different than Sheamus, The Miz, etc. at different points. Pipe bomb was cut on which character? John Cena! You really think Punk hits the level he did if he loses at MITB? Come on now. You can't just ignore how interactions with Cena put people to that mega over level when just zeroing in the times it hurts his characters opponent.

You can even use Punk as an example. He got nowhere when Cena was owning the New Nexus. Cena works even with him and he's suddenly the 2nd biggest star in the company.

Fun part about the Bryan point. Good way to short term it to keep Cena strong, and refer to it in the future for Bryan.I mean, does anyone remember that Undertaker's hand was broken and that he did a whole interview about it when he made Lesnar at No Mercy 2002? Or that Steve Austin's hand was under the bottom rope when he solidified Angle at Unforgiven 2001? Or that Jericho got 8 billion different people to interfere when he became the man to beat Rock and Austin the same night, something he used for years to stay over?

Lot's of interesting points here.

#1. Punks promo worked because he was using exactly what a lot of fans had been feeling at the time. again, it goes back to how Cena has been booked and the fact that Punk used that to his advantage. that is the reason it resonated so well with the fans and got him so over. they used a real life issue fans have with the product. It's almost the same as Paul Heyman's promo this past Monday in a sense.

#2. You bring up the SES and New Nexus. Good points, but I am talking about how over Punk was before that. HIm cashing in MITB on Edge, and his feud with Jeff Hardy were excellent.

#3. Undertaker, Austin , and Jericho are completely different animals. Again the difference is in the booking. Yeah, Jericho had help, but he has completely made other people along the way, and those people have been booked very strong coming off of it. Same can be said for just about anyone you can name. again, I don't see this so much a John Cena issue as it is that the company simply refuses to get strongly behind anyone else but Cena. That isn't Cena's fault, I know. Every time they try to do it, they get screwed over in some form of fashion.

Seriously though, how sad is it that Chris Jericho, a 40+ year old part time guy has to come in and feud with Bray Wyatt to try and re-establish his credibility after the Cena feud?

All that being said, I do think the way they did the John Cena/Roman Reigns stuff recently was a step in the right direction.

John Cena is awful and needs to go away. He
Is actively hurting the product by being there now. If his "merch" and goodwill are all that matter then that is just the tail wagging the dog at this point.

Just watch tonight's Raw and that is proof positive at how awful John Cena is... Then. Now. Forever. (Actually don't watch Raw; it's the worst episode in the last 4 years since I've been watching regularly. Just find Damien Mizdow and that's all you need to see)

Cena certainly finished the job on burying the entire Wyatt family, not sure Bray will ever recover

Quote from reddit:

John Cena on 2/8/14:
>For quite a few years, WWE didn't step up to the plate and correctly build new superstars, and didn't correctly provide new main event talent.

>I often tell people that I'm working with, if they're in the ring and half the fans are cheering me and half the fans are booing me, "Shouldn't you be the one that's mad? Because they're not noticing you at all."

>And people talk about being a babyface and being a heel...what happens when there's no one? And that's honestly the thing I wish...and right now I'm very excited, not only for stuff like the WWE Network, but I think we are on the cusp of getting a true All-Star line-up for first time in a long time.

Mark Henry (18 years in WWE) and Big Show (19 years [15 in WWE]) were used in the main event to prop up John Cena being fed a super promising and talented stable as kibble for a middle of the road PPV.

Fuck off, Creative.

Agreed.
