Orphan Black wins the award for first show from BBC America on this list ever! Don't watch and probably never will. My loss, you say? Probably.

BBT always makes my list just because it's just fun to watch. It's obviously not ground breaking television but there's just something about that show that I can watch it in reruns over and over again and not care. It and Modern Family are just shows, that to me atleast, have amazing rewatchability.

Gotham (24)

Numbers
Two 3rd Place Votes (16)One 4th Place Vote (7)One 10th Place Vote (1)2013 Ranking: N/A

  • Number of episodes aired in 2014: 10

  • Channel: Fox

Additional Info: Gotham is a brand new show to the 2014 fall season about the city of Gotham before Batman came to prominence. It focuses on James Gordon as he has to battle the corruption and chaos that is happening in Gotham. It also features numerous Batman villains before they also come to prominence, including Penguin, Riddler, Two-Face, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, etc. It also focuses on Bruce Wayne right after the murder of his parents as he begins to come to form as the future Batman. It has been a success for Fox thus far and still has 12 episodes to air in 2015, with a very strong likelihood of being renewed.

Critics Consensus: "High production values, a talented cast, and an appealingly stylized approach to the Batman mythos help Gotham overcome its occasionally familiar themes" - Rotten Tomatoes

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Additional Analysis: Gotham is definitely a show that you can see why it would appeal to the EBL crowd, as we are it's target demographic, and it's no surprise to see it reach the top 5 in it's first year of existence. There is no doubt it has gone through some creative hurdles (every show does at first) but the potential for a great show is clearly there. Seeing what Gotham is before Batman is something that has never really been done before in the TV or film world (to the best of my knowledge) so it was a very good idea for a TV show. Some would say it focuses a little too much on pre-teen Batman at this point, or that it is introducing villains a little too quickly, but that falls back to it's creative hurdles and I'm pretty confident it will find it's way by Season 2. It stands a very good chance of being a mainstay on this list going forward.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine (27)

Numbers
One 2nd Place Vote (9)One 3rd Place Vote (8)One 5th Place Vote (6)One 7th Place Vote (4)2013 Ranking: 9th

  • Number of episodes aired in 2014: 22

  • Channel: Fox

Additional Info: Brooklyn Nine-Nine makes the list for the 2nd straight year as it is a show from the creators of Parks & Recreation, about a precinct of detectives and their captain. It moved nights in 2014, as it aired on Tuesday's in the 1st half of 2014 and Sunday's in the 2nd half. It was a winner of two Golden Globes in 2014, one for Best Comedy Series, another for Best Actor in a Comedy Series (Andy Samberg). It jumped 5 spots from 2013 and placed on 4 ballots this year as it ended up being the 2nd highest ranked comedy on the 2014 TV list.

Critics Consensus: "Brooklyn Nine-Nine's winning cast, appealing characters and wacky gags make it good comfort food. " - Rotten Tomatoes

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Additional Analysis: As mentioned above, Brooklyn Nine-Nine was created from the people who made Parks & Recreation, so in my mind there was little doubt it'd be a funny and creative show, and it has lived up to that throughout its 1st 1 1/2 year of existence. The cast is basically perfect, from Andy Samberg's dysfunctional yet effective detective Peralta, to Captain Holt's perfect deadpan deliveries, to Diaz's anger and lack of empathy, to Terry's all around energy, to Santiago's kiss-ass attitude, to Boyle's loyalty and obsession with food, and finally Gina's all around distaste for everything, it all works and blends well together. Even Hitchcock and Scully! Though it has yet to find a huge audience in the TV world, it has found support in the EBL one as clearly we know what makes a good comedy better than others :shifty: I look forward to seeing the continued antics of the 99 precinct going forward.

Gotham - I've watched the first 3 or 4 episodes...it's okay, not really feeling it's as good as I had hoped it would be. I might keep watching when I have time but it's not a priority.

Brooklyn 99 - this time last year, I hadn't started watching...but I believe I started very soon after this list. This show was ranked very highly on my list and is easily one of my favorite shows on right now. I have yet to see an episode that I didn't enjoy.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (36)

Numbers
One 1st Place Vote (10)Two 2nd Place Votes (18)One 3rd Place Vote (8)2013 Ranking: 8th

  • Number of episodes aired in 2014: 22

  • Channel: ABC

Additional Info: Agents of SHIELD continues to be tied into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which means it is privy to appearances from characters such as Nick Fury, Maria Hill, and others (though not the Avengers as of yet). It's fate is also tied to what happens in the movies, as seen after Captain America: The First Avenger when SHIELD was dismantled and the entire show was thrown in upheaval. It also has added from the comics that they are based on, with characters such as Deathlok, Mockingbird & Kraken being prominent on the show.

Critics Consensus: "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. relaxes into itself during its sophomore season, mitigating the show's growing pains by focusing on characters while amping up narrative thrills. " - Rotten Tomatoes

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Additional Analysis: There is no denying that Shield was a show that had trouble figuring out what it wanted to be at first, and the show struggled out of the gates in the 1st season (unfortunately taking much of its big initial audience with it). However, like many shows with good writing and developers behind it, it eventually found its way (specifically after the events of The Winter Soldier) and it has found its footing ever since, finding the right mix of supporting characters, long term storylines and character development. Shield has also done a good job of setting up the Agent Carter series, with some flashbacks to what the audience is going to see on that show. It may never get the big numbers back that it lost during its creative struggles, but it has found a solid niche audience for now and the EBL crowd is obviously a big part of it as evidenced by the leap from 8th to 2nd this year, falling only a couple points short of #1.

Parks & Recreation (36)

Numbers
One 3rd Place Vote (8)Two 4th Place Votes (14)One 5th Place Vote (6)Two 7th Place Votes (8)2013 Ranking: 3rd

  • Number of episodes aired in 2014: 12

  • Channel: NBC

Additional Info: Parks & Recreation makes the list for the 4th straight year, tying The Big Bang Theory for the most consecutive appearances. Remarkably, it has been top 3 each year (2nd in 2011, 3rd in 2012 and 2013). Despite not airing an episode since April, it still garnered significant acclaim as it tied for most ballots (6). Parks & Rec lost 2 main cast members during 2014 as Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones both exited the cast. Parks & Rec also finished as the highest rated comedy for the 2nd straight year.

Critics Consensus: " Consistently bouyed by strong character work and an overarching optimism, Parks and Recreation remains a charming, fun and funny half hour to spend with Leslie Knope and co. " - Rotten Tomatoes

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Additional Analysis: Parks & Rec is consistently funny, and consistently loved by people on EBL. I would argue it is the best comedy cast on TV, as each member has their own significant strengths that somehow have remained as funny as ever through 6 seasons. Parks & Rec has never been a show that a lot of people watch, nor has it been an awards darling, but it is constantly one of the most critically acclaimed shows on TV and it is now going into it's final season. I know I speak for 5 other EBL'ers (at least) when I say that I will miss Parks & Recreation and I am happy to see it always get the credit it deserves on EBL's Top 10 favorite TV shows. With any luck, it could even jump to #1 for its final season next year!

Orange is the New Black (38)

Numbers
Two 2nd Place Votes (18)One 4th Place Vote (7)One 5th Place Vote (6)One 7th Place Vote (4)One 8th Place Vote (3)2013 Ranking: 9th

  • Number of episodes aired in 2014: 13

  • Channel: Netflix

Additional Info: Orange is the New Black tied for most ballots appeared on (6) and that helped it overcome no 1st place votes received. After having barely cracked the list last year at tied for 9th, it jumps all the way to 1st in its 2nd year on the air as more eyes in the EBL world started watching it and enjoying it. With no Breaking Bad to return as #1 and HIMYM falling outside the top 10, OITNB becomes the 3rd different show in 4 years to be #1 in the annual EBL's favorite TV shows list.

Critics Consensus: " With a talented ensemble cast bringing life to a fresh round of serial drama, Orange Is the New Black's sophomore season lives up to its predecessor's standard for female-led television excellence. " - Rotten Tomatoes

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Additional Analysis: OITNB has one of the deepest cast ensembles on TV, and going into its 2nd year the show adapted to this aspect and developed a more "centric" episode storyline that helped the show reach another level quality wise (it was great in S1 still). This is a show that can have a character in reserve for an entire season where they do absolutely nothing but lay around (Rosa, literally) and barely appear, and then in Season 2 she becomes arguably the shows best character. Season 2 saw the introduction of Vee as a diabolical but crafty villain type, and she also made the show jump another level. The focus was shifted from Piper as she was the main focus for S1 and become part of the ensemble more in season 2 as we got flashback episodes for Taystee, Crazy Eyes, Lorna, Mendoza, Poussey, Black Cindy, Rosa, Vee, Red, Sister Ingalis, & Piper/Alex. It became a model that OITNB thrived within and you even get the feeling that season 3 has many more characters they have dive deeper into without losing the audiences attention. I think it absolutely is deserving of its #1 spot this year as it has become one of the best shows on TV and the EBL community agrees.

Agents of Shield - Glad I stuck with it through the hard times of Season 1. Last year I actually chastised people for their existance on the top 10 last year...and then this year I actually put this 1st. The Ward heel turn was probably my favorite twist since Michael's heel turn S2 of Lost. Hopefully this show can maintain ratings and stick around for seasons to come to watch it evolve along with the rest of the MCU.

Parks & Rec - Still way behind on this but I've enjoyed what I've watched. Can understand why it ranks so highly every year.

OITNB - Don't watch and probably never will.
