The rules are simple: You pick one person to vote for, and the one who receives the most votes will be in the HOF. You may choose to give reasons for your voting or not, but please consider all candidates and don't jump to conclusions in voting. Voting ends next Thursday. Thanks!

In addition, the stats site archive will be used for players pages who retired during the years available.

And please no "these HOF nominees are weak or terrible" posts/comments.

2055 Nominations

Dave Merchado

5th and Final Nomination

http://www.mchlclrk.com/old_ebl/2050/players/player94.htm

Career stats: 1606 games (1st), 29095 points (29th), 11036 assists (16th), 2264 steals (49th), 11008 FGs (29th), 4546 FTs (58th), 2533 3s (29th), 4226 turnovers (2nd)

The case for Dave Merchado: The only person in EBL history to ever play 1600 games. Has 11 20 PPG seasons on his resume, including 4 of 25+ in a row from 2037-2040. Was a great PG who struggled with turnovers early in his career, then transitioned into a great all around SG for the 2nd half of his career, showing versatility. Being 16th all time in assists despite playing half of his career at SG speaks wonders to his career. He was often a very good defender much of his career. Also an efficient shooter (career line of .457/.855/.400).

The case against Dave Merchado: As mentioned, struggled mightily with turnovers when he played PG. He was never able to win a title despite being on many good teams. Played too long, hurting some of his legacy as he went on.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ryan Laird

2nd Nomination

http://www.mchlclrk.com/old_ebl/2051/players/player45.htm

Career stats: 28380 points (33rd), 11814 assists (11th), 2573 steals (26th), 10922 FGs (30th), 2573 3s (28th), 591 double doubles (44th), 3291 turnovers (21st)

The case for Ryan Laird: A very protective PG during his career, with 15 seasons of 20+ PPG and 13 seasons with 9+ APG. Was a very good 3pt shooter for his career (40%). He was productive until his retirement, making the finals his final year as a starting PG for the Wizards. He was adept at getting steals and playing good defense.

The case against Ryan Laird: Struggled with turnovers earlier in his career. Was somewhat a liability as a rebounder. Never won a title and struggled early on at making the playoffs.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ricky Hart

2nd Nomination

http://www.mchlclrk.com/old_ebl/2052/players/player407.htm

Career stats: 14005 rebounds (24th), 3856 blocks (18th), 5055 FTs (35th), 768 double doubles (t-12th)

The case for Ricky Hart: He was often one of the best big men in EBL during his career, capable of not only being an elite rebounder/defender, but also an underrated scorer (13 seasons with at least 16 PPG). An efficient shooter for a big man in EBL (46%). Only had 1 season below 10 RPG his entire 16 year career (his rookie season). Won 2 titles in Denver as a core player and had numerous other success on other teams.

The case against Ricky Hart: Doesn't have the career scoring numbers you'd expect from a good scorer like him (90th in points). Struggled mightily with FTs his whole career. Never had an outside game to speak of. Non existent passer.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fred Evangelisa

http://www.mchlclrk.com/old_ebl/2054/players/player336.htm

Career stats: 36001 points (5th), 10917 rebounds (77th), 2485 steals (30th), 13511 FGs (6th), 6514 FTs (4th), 2465 3s (34th)

The case for Fred Evangelisa: One of the most durable and consistent players in EBL history. A top 5 all time scorer in the league. Averaged at least 20 PPG in 16 of his 17 seasons, with multiple seasons above 28 PPG. He was an elite rebounder at the SF spot, as well as a great defender and an underrated handler. Made 13 all star games, which is no small feat considering the SFs he was up against in his career. Never played fewer than 77 games in a season. Was the best player on the 2052 Raptors championship team.

The case against Fred Evangelisa: Never was a great outside shooter, though he often didn't hurt his team with it. His teams failed in the playoffs with him as the best player very often until he broke the rut and won a title.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tom Alers

http://www.mchlclrk.com/old_ebl/2054/players/player509.htm

Career stats: 25215 points (62nd), 16262 rebounds (6th), 3599 blocks (23rd), 8970 FGs (70th), 6243 FTs (8th), 868 double doubles (5th), 2944 turnovers (36th)

The case for Tom Alers: He was at one time the unquestioned best big man in EBL. Had a 7 year stretch where he averaged at over 20 PPG/11 RPG each season. Was a great shot blocker, especially early in his career. Had a great mix of inside and outside scoring, making over 1000 3s in his career while shooting nearly 40% on them. Elite FT shooter for a big man (career .876). He was one of the best rebounders in EBL history. Solid passer at times. Made 11 ASGs, a noteworthy accomplishment for a big man.

The case against Tom Alers: Struggled at times with turnovers. His team lost a lot of games during his career. He became a mediocre to bad defender the 2nd half of his career.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Andrew Kopp

http://www.mchlclrk.com/old_ebl/2054/players/player134.htm

Career stats: 30761 points (22nd), 6747 assists (68th), 3165 steals (5th), 11588 FGs (23rd), 4393 FTs (65th), 3192 3s (4th), 2773 turnovers (50th)

The case for Andrew Kopp: One of the best shooters in EBL history. He currently holds the single season 3pt record, making 288 3s in 2049, in addition to holding the single season FT% record of .964, set in 2050. He not only made a lot of 3s, he made them at a high percentage, shooting over 42% career with 7 seasons of 200+ made 3s. One of the best defensive guards of his era. Prolific scorer, with 11 straight seasons of 20+ PPG from 2041-2051. Great passer out of the SG spot.

The case against Andrew Kopp: Failed miserably as a PG early in his career. Very poor rebounder for a starter. Didn't offer much positional versatility in his career due to his size and inability to play PG effectively. Never won a title in his career.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Vote Tally

Fred Evangelisa: 9
Dave Merchado: 8
Tom Alers: 2
Ryan Laird: 0
Ricky Hart: 0
Andrew Kopp: 0

Tough decision here, as there are a few that probably should be in.

In the end, I have to go with Dave Merchado because it's his last shot via vote.

Dave Merchado - His durability and versatility were amazing and he was an elite player at two different positions, a rare feat.
