Have anyone read the books by Robin Hobb? She has written three trilogies (well, four, but the last is not worth mentioning <_< ).
The trilogies are:
-The Farseer
-The Live Ship Traders
-The Tawny Man
-(and The Soldier Son trilogy, but I have heard of very few who liked it. I never managed to finish the first book.. Which is really sad, as her other books are really great!)

Anyway, I highly recommend the first three trilogies!

For those who doesn't know the story, here's the back of the first book:
********
The first Robin Hobb Trilogy, The Farseer Trilogy, took place in the Six Duchies. It is the tale of FitzChivalry Farseer. The discovery that this bastard son exists is enough to topple Prince Chivalry's ambition for the throne. He abdicates, ceding the title of heir to the throne to his younger brother Verity and abandoning the child to the care of the stable master Burrich. The youngest prince, Regal, has ambitions of his own, and wishes to do away with the bastard. But old King Shrewd sees the value of taking the lad and training him as an assassin. For a bastard can be sent into dangers where a trueborn son could not be risked, and may be given tasks that would soil an heir's hands.

And so FitzChivalry is trained in the secret arts of being a royal assassin. He shows a predilection for the Wit, a beast magic much despised in the Six Duchies. This secret vice in the young assassin is tolerated, for a partnership with an animal may be a useful trait in an assassin. When it is discovered that he may possess the hereditary magic of the Farseers, the Skill, he becomes both the King's weapon, and an obstacle to Prince Regal's ambitions for the throne. At a time when the rivalry for the throne is intense, and the Outislanders and their Red Ship raiders are bringing war to the Six Duchies, FitzChivalry discovers that the fate of the kingdom may very well rest on the actions of a young bastard and the King's Fool. Armed with little more than loyalty and his sporadic talent for the old magic, Fitz follows the fading trail of King Verity who has traveled beyond the Mountain Kingdom and into the realm of the legendary Elderlings in what may be a vain hope to renew an old alliance.

Oh, please do! I'm sure you won't regret! ..at least i hope you won't :ph43r:
It's a lot better than it sounds from what I wrote up there, but there are so many things happening that I didn't know where to begin to decribe it. That why I ended up with the lame copy-pasting of the back of the first book XD

I adore Robin Hobb's Farseer, Liveship and Tawny Man series...up until the last half of the last book of the Tawny man! What was that about?! She completely sold out, ruining everything she had built up with Beloved and Fitz! Argh! Molly can go and drown herself in the river for all I care...........

not that I am bitter....

If you liked the Farseer and so on, George R R Martin has some good books. If he would only finish them...

Why is it that my favourite authors are either dead, give up or just don't write anymore? Must be a curse that starts everytime I open a book. Bam! Curse.

I just read John Barrowman's biography...does that mean he is affected by the curse too? Does it mean he might never ever return to BBC1? *ponders*

YAY! Finally another member here that's read the books! :D I know Msitu are reading them, but she's been doing that for a while now (hurry up! :P )

Yeah.. I kind of wish the last half of Tawny Man didn't exsist... It was not the ending I hoped for! Yeah, yeah, I know many likes it and all.. But it's so.. so.. not how it was supposed to be! *sniff*

I've read one short story by George R R Martin, and he's definitely and author I'll read more from! Just haven't had the time just yet..

Hmh... You could've warned me about that curse earlier! Now you'll make me suffer from it too, seeing as you keep recommending things, and I read them XD

LOL! Yeah, sorry...May I recommend Mercedes Lackey's The Last Herald-Mage trilogy? Looooovely books with a gay main character...rare for fantasy...

He might even get his man! (No, seriously...)
