One subplot to monitor as Marlins bid to close the nine-game gap with the National League East-leading Braves is the play of the two center fielders. Unsure of the production they'll get from Nate McLouth fresh off the disabled list, the Braves are looking at Ross as an outfield option. They had multiple special assignment scouts at Sun Life Stadium this week.

The Braves aren't the only club interested in Ross as the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline nears. According to a source that has spoken with the Marlins, Ross has come up in discussions with the Red Sox, Phillies, Dodgers and Yankees.

"Anytime you hear your name mentioned around in trade rumors, it's not a good feeling," Ross said, upon the Marlins' return from the All-Star break. "You want to be on a team that's looking for guys to get. It's not the first time I've been in trade talks and probably won't be the last."

I hope we keep Cody. He may not be the best batter around, but he catches pretty much everything that comes his way.
