So! Pokémon Netbattle's a fun way to play with others without Wifi or having to train your Pokémon the freakishly-long-and-difficult way. It's pretty cool, and appeals a lot more to strategy than anything in a game where you'd choose any Pokémon you'd like and pit them against others all over the world. The website's here. It's not being updated anymore, but it's still very much active. What is in development is a 4th generation version of Netbattle called Competitor. While I know little about it... well. It's still in the pipe and all. That said, I'm hoping we might arrange a few games over Netbattle and stuff. We could have our own private tournaments and all, too =/ |

That's great! Just a few more, and we can organize some kind of session or something =X I can play with Psyduck since we're both on MSN, but it's a little harder to play with the rest of you, ne? |

We should try and organise a proper tournamnet. You know, with the numbers halving each round. It wouldn't all have to be done at once, either, so only two people who are battling are needed at a time. Then we all have one team of six for the whole comp, maybe the early rounds have just 3, via challenge cup mode...and then we find out the best metagame player of Poké Rangers. |

Actually, Challenge Cup is a lot more luck than skill at all... To put a proper team together's the real challenge... That said, after a lot of rounds with Psyduck, I've decided to put up the few teams I've made so far. We've battled with Bug, Water, Ground and Fire Pokemon so far... and we each chose a Pokemon at a time to make six Pokemon each. While I didn't get some of my favourite sets, I did manage to pull together some decent Pokemon. Here're the sets... Although, please be reminded that some of these Pokemon are specifically made to defeat those of its type. Not always a recommended one. Bug-type Team Ninjask@Leftovers Nature: Adamant Ability: Speed Boost 252 Attack, 128 Speed, 128 HP Baton Pass Double Team Hidden Power: Flying Substitute Notes: The premise of this Ninjask is like that of most BP Ninjask. Substitute to stall for at least four turns, Double Team-ing if possible, then Baton Passing to another Pokemon to transfer the +4 Speed and Evasion to another Pokemon. This variant adds to Attack simply because it can also be a quick striker, using a STABbed HP to deal massive damage to Bug-types. Forretress@Leftovers Nature: Impish Ability: Sturdy 252 Special Defense, 252 Defense, 4 HP Spikes Rapid Spin Toxic Explosion Notes: A simple set. Set the traps (3x spikes), keeping yourself alive with the Steel typing and awesome defense. Use Rapid Spin to clear enemy spikes, and Toxic to annoy them even as you continue to set the scene. Finish off with an Explosion, to make use of its decent attack. Heracross@Leftovers/Salac Berry Nature: Jolly Ability: Guts 252 Attack, 252 Speed Bulk Up Substitute Focus Punch Reversal Notes: This is one of the Pokemon built against the team: it doesn't work often because Fighting < Bug. It is, however, an interesting set I came up with, so I had to put it in. A Subrever, basically, only without the Salac to survive Sandstorms. The theory's to Substitute and Bulk Up whenever possible to keep yourself healthy and strong. Use Focus Punch while Substitute's up, and once your HP's low, let the Reversals fly. Masquerain@Leftovers Nature: Modest Ability: Intimidate 252 Special Attack, 128 HP, 128 Special Defense Ice Beam Protect Psybeam Psych Up Notes: This is one Pokemon dedicated to stopping only two of his Pokemon: Armaldo and Yanma. The Psych Up is for Masquerain to adopt Yanma's Speed Boosts, and with Intimidate to lower the enemy's attack, all she has to do is blast away with her Special Attacks. Parasect@Leftovers Nature: Adamant Ability: Effect Spore 252 Attack, 140 HP, 114 Speed, 4 Special Defense Aerial Ace Hidden Power: Bug Spore Swords Dance Notes: This Pokemon is set to make full use of its Leftovers with the HP points, while the Attack is pretty obvious. Basically, it slows the opponent down with the sleeping, powering up with Swords Dance before sweeping with Aerial Ace and a STABbed Hidden Power. While Parasect's not the fastest attacker, I counted on the speed giving it a small edge over the slower opponents in sending them to sleep first. Scyther@Leftovers Nature: Jolly Ability: Swarm 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP Hidden Power: Flying Reversal Substitute Swords Dance Notes: Another Subrever: this one built to counter Armaldo. Use Substitute to afford a shield while you Swords Dance yourself up before unleashing hell on the Bug-types with Aerial Ace. Reversal and Substitute work together, of course. I make use of Scyther's speed here; a stat higher than that of Scizor. Alternative Bug Sets: After Psyduck got angry for my abuse of Substitute, I swapped a few things out. The alternate sets... Ninjask@Leftovers Nature: Adamant Ability: Speed Boost 252 Attack, 128 Speed, 128 HP Hidden Power: Flying Silver Wind Shadow Ball Return Notes: No room for a Baton Pass here, so just go for the powerful attacks: HP Flying takes care of most bugs, with Silver Wind also good for STABbed damage in the normal game. Shadow Ball to take care of Ghosts and Return for... well; it's a filler, really. Scyther@Leftovers Nature: Jolly Ability: Swarm 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP Agility Swords Dance Hidden Power: Flying Baton Pass Notes: Most of the time, HP Flying pips Aerial Ace. This is no exception. The remainder of the moves are there to make it what Ninjask once was: a Baton Passer, although it's rather risky to have, I'll admit. Still, one Swords Dance and an Agility and it can sweep most Bug-type teams. ... That's the Bug-type team done. More teams later! |

I tried hosting a server for a while... didn't work too well. My connection in Singapore doesn't seem to work optimally with them. Darn. But yeah; Smogon... Pokérealm we went into once. |

Not enough Steel-types to have a proper contest =/ * #081 Magnemite * #082 Magneton * #205 Forretress * #208 Steelix * #212 Scizor * #227 Skarmory * #303 Mawile * #304 Aron * #305 Lairon * #306 Aggron * #374 Beldum * #375 Metang * #376 Metagross * #379 Registeel * #385 Jirachi Only 10 fully-evolved Pokémon. Top picks? (5 out of 10, not going for Legends) Magneton (OMG MAGNET PULL) Forretress (Tough defense, great utility) Skarmory (Amazing physical defense) Aggron (Versatile physical attacker) Metagross (Very powerful physical attacker) Not a lot of choice, really. |
