The fic of what my ranger story is based on here. This is actually my favorite region because of its mysterious tales of the three Pokemon of Air, Earth and Water (Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, etc.)

Anyway, discuss what you like about the 3rd generation. Go ahead.

Oooh, this shall amuse me.

Out of all those legendaries, I like the Regis the least. Well, except for a lot of Sinnoh. So, yeah.

Only aren't you forgetting the Latis? Jirachi? Does Deoxys count?

This mostly reminds me of my mini-project of boredom.

I got bored. xD Then on Emerald, I caught all three of the Trinity with my team. Most of them were level fifty. Sapphy was level fifty-five. And not with a Master Ball either. ^_^

And that is why I like the Trinity. So I can't vote since I'd have to vote for only two.

Only I think the Latis are more fun. -slapp'd-

I'm a big fan of Jirachi...anime-wise it's only appeared in one movie, the only movie that one could have already seen in the UK, but I haven't, and I've never had the opportunity to have it in the game (hopefully Wifi will change that soon), but my cousin once gave me a Jirachi card (he actually had it in swap!), and I fell in love with it from there on...of course, it needed a Steel energy to use its only damaging attack, and I didn't have a single one...maybe now that they're finally classed as a Basic Energy, I'll be able to get my hands on some...

Rayquaza is a cool dragon that stopped Kyogre and Groudon. Those two could destroy the world but he stopped the fighting.

Deoxys is from outer space. How cool is that? Very cool

So is Jirachi, as chapter 48 of Neo made clear...

Heh...through the blessing that is Pokémon Channel, I finally got Jirachi. I played for a few weeks (I didn't play it every day) and finally eventually got it, the entire point of the game...

Anyway, I've been playing through Colloseum the last few days (what, the thread title says third gen, this is on-topic!), and it's pretty good. Got all the legendary beasts, and the first of the three Johto starters, so once I've got Ho-oh that'll mean only one more pokémon from the Johto games would be needed in my Diamond! Anyway, I'm starting to look at Orre in a whole new light asI recognise characters like Skrub and Secc...yeah.

I always use Mudkip whenever I start a new game. When he starts evolving, he owns the battle. I never had one faint on me.

Why always Mudkip? Doesn't that get seriously boring? Not only do you not use the other two starters, Torchic being rather interesting, but there are dozens upon dozens of gorgeous water types in the region. I mean, you could have Starmie, Kingdra, Lanturn, Walrein, Milotic, Crawdaunt, and so many more! Not to mention, just like in the Kanto games, the water type is the easiest to start with in Hoenn, because of frst rock, and then by gym three it may well have evolved to part ground, and...

...Although I have just remembered it's actually grass that's easieast to start with in Kanto... Still, waters pretty damn good. Then gym four you get fire...etc...

It takes forever to get a good water type when you don't have a Water type in Hoenn.

Also, I only beat Wattson once with my Grass starter. Wattson is cake with a Fire starter, and, once Combusken gets Double Kick it is a very good starter until the very end, where you need an electric type or bust.

I don't always start with Mudkip, I just think its a good well-rounded choice. I started with Treecko first. Then Mudkip for a while. Then Torchic. Torchic was really hard to work with, but it made the second gym 10 times easier with Peck...

You can catch Marrill on dry land, and Surf with it to get something else. Not to mention pokémon such as Hariyama and Linoone that can learn Surf. It might take forever, but then the second half of the game you'll see nothing but them.

I start all over the place. The first Sapphire I had, I picked a Torchic. Can't remember how that did, because it was a while ago (multiple years. Don't remember how many, maybe four or so?). Then, I kind of lost it... and the SP... Uh, yeah.

Then I got an Emerald, and I picked Treecko. Was eh. Roxanne's Nosepass almost owned her (multiple restarts for a female, whoopee) because it wasn't part ground, but the Treecko won and I think around then evolved... not sure exactly. Wattson was annoying though. Kirlia and Grovyle had a bit of a hard time, though (had fun mowing down Brawly's gym though. Go psychic types!)

Then it was another Sapphire with Mudkip. And yeah, that was easiest. Meh. I remember nagging my brother to trade over a level 26 Pikachu from his LeafGreen that leveled up fast and owned everything. Then after fighting Winona, I took a break and went combing the river by Fortree for Feebas and caught a bunch. Yay for legit ugly fish!

Actually, I might be wrong, but I think you only get Marill right away in Emerald, before Rustboro. The earliest I remember seeing a Marill in Sapphire was Fallarbor. Not a hundred percent sure though.

So in my Emerald I'm on a particular saved game where I haven't won any Battle Symbols because I leant the game to a friend who's, shall we say, not the best player, and doesn't have any decent Pokémon on it save for the level 92 Rayquaza. Still, I've kept this saved game because the Battle Factory is fun and it's pretty close to completing the Hoenn dex, and therefore earning my Diamond a Johto starter!

In previous saved games I've only once won any Battle Symbols, and that was the Silver Luck Symbol, which in my opinion is, as its name suggests, easy to get, based on luck.

Still, I get through two play throughs of the Battle Factory and go for the third, and one of my Pokémon is a Gardevoir. It has Psychic, Ice Punch, Fire Punch, and Magical Leaf. To most players this wouldn't be particularly significant other than it shows this Pokémon to be AWESOME. However, in my Diamond, one of my best Pokémon, level 81, which I bred to get a specific nature and, of course, gender, on this very saved Diamond game, is a Gallada, with Psycho Cut, Ice Punch, Fire Punch and Leaf Blade. Coincidence? Well either way, along with a Quagsire with an incredible Earthquake and a Mr. Mime with a decent Thunderbolt, we pwn our way through the next six battles. Then the attendant got a phone call...

For the second time ever I found myself up against a Frontier Brain!! And...I won!!!! Hooray!

Here's a play-by-play of the battle, but before I start, I'd like to point out that I was really UNlucky with Noland's Pokémon! He could have had three of so many and he had these!

I send out Gardevoir, he sends out Salamence. Ice Punch takes it down in one hit, but then comes his Snorlax. Mega Kick takes Gardevoir down in one hit. My Quagsire and the Snorlax go at it with Earthquake and Mega Kick a couple of times, until Quagsire goes down, leaving Snorlax low in the red. Mr. Mime's Thunderbolt finishes it off, and Noland sends out his Snorlax. I didn't realise this in the battle, but crucially both Mr. Mime and Alakazam had the Trick/Choice Band move set. I launch in with a Thunderbolt, and Noland makes the critical error of using Trick. Each turn Alakazam is forced into trading our identical items whilst I chop its health down to nothing.

He had three incredible Pokémon, but only one was used well. One was just bad luck for him, whilst the other was due to a critical misjudgement. But I've got my first Frontier Symbol! The Knowledge Symbol!

That's what we in the computer programming know call a logic error. Or is it? I know it's some error that causes an infinite loop. I'll have to look it up.

I started with Torchic in my first Sapphire, and it turned out all right. I built a strong team and took down the Elite Four. Then I got Emerald and picked Mudkip. Best. Starter. Ever. I just breezed through some Gyms, like Mauville for example.

But then I got a Gameshark and started stealing Pokemon from the Battle Factory. Mostly starters and Eeveelutions. But if I get Platinum (and right now, that's a very big if for me), I vow to restart my Emerald and complete the Hoenn Dex legitimately. Of course, that will have to wait until I've gotten all I can out of Platinum, so that could take a while. But I'm gonna get it done!

Ah, who am I kidding? I'll just get the Johto starters from someone on Serebii.
