Meh, I give my main team HMs, then just delete them later, and teach them better moves. Donphan's had Strength and Rock Smash most of the game.

With the Pokéathlon, certain events are great, but I'm not so keen on others... my favourites are the hurdles and the block smash...oh, and four way football!

Bongo, you're a traitor to your country. Ass is a donkey, arse is a bum! That said, I don't like Google, it's telling that "arse" isn't a British English word. Microsoft recognises it in Word... bah!

I tried the four way football. It was okay...

Strength's not a bad HM. It's not fantastic, but it's simple and effective. Can you really ask for more?

On the traitor thing... There's not enough ways to tell you to bite me. I'm enough of a patriot to think that England are going to win the World Cup.

Well, patriot or fool. One of them. Not sure which.

Anyway, I might do a bit more tonight. Either tonight or in the morning. See if I can get to Olivine City by the next time I come on.

Oh, Strength is good, certainly earlier in the game. But it's let down by type. If it was any other type at all - well, except dragon, moves of that type are good against Kingdra & Palkia and are otherwise useless - I'd keep it permanently.

EDIT: I haven't played it at all today, I've been busy, and I won't tomorrow either, and possibly not Sunday. What can I say, people are free over these few days, I have a social life for a bit :P

Heh, Morty was easy. Good ol' Murkrow and Croconaw combination. Plus Flaafy helped by paralyzing Gengar.

I haven't got to Olivine yesterday, my batteries died so had to recharge them.

EDIT: Don't know if anyone else had this, but there's quite a cute moment in the lighthouse.

If you have a female Ampharos at the top of the party, and talk to her while she's stood next to Amphy (After being cured), a little heart comes up above her head and the box says that she's interested in him.

So, although the gender isn't specific, either Amphy is male, or my Ampharos is of a different sexual persuasion to practically every other Pokemon in the game. Let's not go there.

You mean like Sickle? :P

That's cool. You should email Serebii about that; Serebii.net recently added a page of all the phrases specific partner Pokémon could say in specific places, such as taking a Spinarak to Azalea gym, where it'll say "Spinarak began to scuttle around." But under Ampharos at the Lighthouse it just has "Ampharos sparkled in concert with Amphy", probably for a male? But yeah, that's not listed, I'd let Joe know about it.

EDIT: My Elite Four challenge has begun. I've just slaughtered Will, he didn't barely put a scratch on any of my Pokémon, only managing anything because Donphan had low speed. I'm now switching his Quick Claw for a Choice Scarf. I'll give a full run-down after I've beaten them all.

EDITY EDIT: Bow before your new champion! :D

Heart Gold

So I had nothing to do today, so I traded everything over to Platinum and trained. I got them to level 45, with a few Rare Candies. Based on what I knew of Will's levels I guessed that'd do me fine. I was certainly right.

Will and Koga both crumbled, they barely deserve mentioning. Bruno is where the challenge begins - and what a challenge!

Facing him was my first taste of the new ability exclusive to the Machop line - No Guard. No Guard means any and all moves used by BOTH Pokémon will hit, regardless of accuracies and semi-invulnerable states. I sent out my Murkrow against his Machamp and was horrified as it hit me in the air, taking it down in one hit. Bruno was the first to knock out a Pokémon, and the first to damage more than one.

Karen was also somewhat of a challenge, but simply due to that Machamp Bruno was much harder.

Lance. First of all I'm piddled that he started with Gyarados. I wanted Feraligatr to be first in the Hall of Fame, and against a Dragon type user that should have been fine, he has Ice Fang. But what good's an Ice Fang against a ruddy Gyarados? I just immediately switched to Lapras. Whilst Lance knocked out all but two of my Pokémon, it didn't feel like a challenge - that is, like it was hard. It was just fun.

Mary turning up...meh...I feel bad for poor Professor Elm, he's so relegated in these games because of Oak...

The Hall of Fame was nice. I liked seeing all of my Pokémon's different sprites. I didn't like that Murkrow and Donphan are listed as arriving from Sinnoh when I hatched their eggs in Johto.

The credits were beautiful. They've kept those dancing borders from GSC, but the main animation is new. It basically retells the entire game's story just through minor movements in the sprites (granted Clair appears before Pryce...). It was gorgeous, and very cute, much better than those horrible fake sprites they make for the credits in most games. Normally I get bored of the credits very quickly. Not a chance here, I was captivated.

Teeny tiny "The" at the end, followed by a great big "END". Well, not so much. Next stop, Kanto!

One little closing note...I felt that Stantler was the only Pokémon that failed me in the League, and twice at that. When other Pokémon fainted, I felt it was because I made a bad choice, or because it was unavoidable, but with Stantler I just felt she let me down a lot. And she only made the team because I couldn't think of anything else I wanted; Stantler has mediocre stats (granted, better than Lapras) and a mediocre movepool. If I replace anything for my journey through Kanto, it will be Stantler.

Watch this space!

Well, I did think that it was an odd choice to have in a team. Something about Stantler doesn't scream Champion.

Let's see...

Just about to head off to Goldenrod and take on Team Rocket. Beat Pryce with Ampharos, Growlithe and Nidorino. Met Lance, the team up with him is nice. Caught the red Gyarados.

Gathered up enough Athelete points to get a Fire stone. Now, I just need a Dusk Stone and I'll have what I need to complete the evolution of my Pokemon. But, won't be using either the Moon or Fire stones yet.

And, looking at Serebii, I think my Growlithe missed out on learning Flamethrower, because I levelled the thing up in the Pokewalker. B*****s.

Speaking of the Pokewalker, I did use it to get a Dratini. Yay.

Guess I also need to head to the Safari Zone to do the second part of Balboa's challenge.

Hmm...guess you can either play at the game corner for ages (the TM only costs time now...) or wait until Blackthorn.

Guessing you're using Murkrow too? Or have you opted for Misdreavus? Either way, without trading you won't be getting that stone until post-National dex.

That answers my question about what happens in regard to level up moves in the PokéWalker...have any of them changed, like day care, is it just random?

Yeah, I'm using Murkrow. Good for battling those pesky types that it's strong against. Psychic, fighting, ghost, grass, bug etc. Plus, Honchkrow is awesome, no two ways about it. Although, I didn't trade an egg over from Sinnoh to get it, I used the Poke Walker. Like with my Nidoran and Dratini. Half my team came from the Walker. At least Dratini levels up pretty quick at the moment. Stuck the Exp Share on it and am wandering through the Radio Tower.

I did hear you could win a Dusk Stone at the Pokeathlon. But, no joy so far. I did get a Fire Stone, and my Mum bought me a Moon Stone, which I'll use on Nidorino after he learns Poison Jab. After that, there aren't any other moves worth learning. Not bothered about Captivate and Horn Drill.

If you level up a Pokemon with the Poke Walker, it doesn't learn new moves. Hence my Growlithe not knowing Flamethrower. Grrrr... Where's the move relearner and what does he need?

Mmm, like I say, that stone isn't available until after you get the National Dex (since it's not in the Johto Dex), and then not on Wednesdays or Sundays.

Wish I'd got something on the PokéWalker, just for the fact I had...but Murkrow would have meant waiting longer than I wanted, and nothing else I wanted is on there...

The Move Relearner is in Blackthorn City, and he still wants a Heart Scale. He's in the same house as the Move Deleter and the Move Tutor for the Elemental Beams, AND Grandma Wilma. The Move Deleter debuted in these games, and primarily as a way to delete second gen moves to trade through the Time Capsule - at that point they could hardly imagine you wanting to delete HM moves, so they put it in late. They've shoved everything but the awesome tutors (who are now all stuffed into the Battle Frontier, wanting Battle Points just like the TM shop) into the same house...not as bad as FRLG, where the Deleter doesn't show up until Two Island, and then wanting mushrooms, but still...

Heart Gold

Not got time for a major update. But I waited in Johto on Tuesday to take advantage of the Hoenn Sound yesterday. Replaced my Stantler with a freshly caught Absol.

Explored almost all of Kanto - everywhere except south of Pallet Town - because I just realised you CAN. There are literally no obstacles apart from Snorlax, and you don't need any badges to get past him.

Kanto's all very lush...looking forward to exploring beyond some of these Rock Climb places... (Yep, covering pretty much an entire region just like that.Deal with it :P)

My favourite part of all came in Celadon Condominiums. Went to speak to Game Freak. Oh yeah, Lyra showed up (NOT my favourite part), completely out of the blue - it doesn't make any sense, she had no way of getting there, and she didn't tell me ANYTHING that I couldn't have found out in that very room!

I loved talking to the President. He told me they were working on a remake. On the one hand, they didn't want to make it exactly the same game, because that'd be boring, but on the other, they didn't want to tamper with the precious memories of long time fans.

I mean minor little details like that were put in JUST for us fans! GORGEOUS!

Anywho...bumped into Steven, that was interesting. He set Latias roaming - apparently he's in Johto to investigate why Latias, from Hoenn, would come to Johto. How about because she feels like it, she can do whatever she likes. Or better yet, how about, because Johto is way cooler than Hoenn.

Ooh, he does make a nice little comment though, he asks if he's battled the player before, then mentions how everyone he battles seems to have the same look - obviously either the look of Brendan or May, since so many people playing the game look like him :P

Went back to Johto and tried out the Battle Frontier. Went through the Battle Arcade. Beat it easily three times and got the first Print from Dahlia without breaking a sweat, much easier than either of the other Battle Frontier games.

I still find it weird that I could have a token of victory at the Battle Frontier whilst there are still badges to be won...

Next I'm gonna storm through the gyms, in the proper Kanto order, one immediately after the other. :D

I went and kicked Red in earlier. Made me laugh a bit when Pikachu suicided with Volt Tackle. Now I'm just chasing Legendaries.

Well, I traded my Dragonair into Platinum, so it can gain experience and it evolved into Dragonite. I may use Dragonite and my team to defeat Red. However, Snorlax might be a problem. I have a lot of training to do. I may mix and match my Platinum and SoulSilver team to beat him too.

That's basically the inverse of what I did, since I traded a strong-arm team off of Pearl to kick in the Elite Four and Red as well.

Well, I did something that was very shameful of me when I first bought the game. I zoomed through the gym badges and beat everybody. Now, I have to face Red and my Pokemon are way below level. So, I want to train Dragonite to Level 75 before I bring it back to SoulSilver and then my Weepinbell is next, so it can get experience. Then, I'm evolving it when I grab it back and so on and so forth. Benefit: Adds pages to both Platinum and SoulSilver Pokedexes.

Well, seems like you're missing half the point of the game. What's the point of trading a team over from another game to help you beat HG or SS. Isn't there an achievement in using a group of Pokemon you've raised over the course of the game, battling with them through thick and thin, having used each of them to beat the holy hell out of gym leaders.

I think you're being hard on yourself, Yankee, that's not shameful. I didn't zoom through the game, but I didn't spend much time training, I spent most of it in the Game Corner and Pokéathlon. When it came to the League my team was averaging at level 37, so I traded to Platinum and trained up to level 45 (and they all got a couple of Rare Candies, too). Now after searching through all of Kanto they're about 50/51. The latest is five of the Kanto gyms, and they're still only 52/53. Tried taking on Lance & Clair and got pulverised (to be fair though, that battle is more like taking on two-on-one, Silver is useless).

The thing is, not only is Kanto smaller, but your Pokémon are higher levelled, so it's much more difficult to train them. It's easy to storm through Kanto, because of most of the Pokémon there are lower levels than the Elite Four, who you've already beaten in much tougher circumstances. I know by the time I reach Red I won't be ready for him. I'll be trading to Platinum again and bored out of my skull before level 60.

Incidentally, I've traded more just to playthrough Heart Gold than any other game, for training, or move tutors, or whatever...
