You mean "a gift horse"? I'm not saying you should have tried to get more though, I'm saying you should have tried to get less. Less hacked Master Balls, less chance of your game crashing. Take the good parts, throw the bad away...like wrapping paper. You make it sound like Ł15 is a lot for a game...it really isn't...ok, so it was obviously second hand, but even so, most shops would charge at least Ł20 for it. |

Yeah, I mean the gift horse. I was paraphrasing. Well, long story short, the game hasn't crashed. I suppose on reflection for Emerald, fifteen quid isn't a lot. Although, I think I didn't have much money at the time, so... Not that that situation's improved lately, lol. Anyway, I played an hour this morning. Trying to raise all of my Pokemon's levels up a bit before I go to battle Clair. Currently I have: Feraligatr level 39. Nidorino level 38. Ampharos level 37. Murkrow level 37 Growlithe level 37. Maybe I would have enough, but I'm not taking any chances. |

Hmm...what ice-type move does Feraligatr have? Ice Fang is you best bet, although Avalanche works well too. What's your sixth Pokémon? Do you have an HM Slave or have you just not filled that slot yet? |

My current progress is Soul Silver has me at Karen of the Elite 4, with her Umbreon giving trouble with his Payback move. My team consists of the following: Draco (Feraligtr) level 42 Vida (Ampharos) level 41 Weepinbell level 33 Togekiss level 36 Jess (Arbok) level 36 Dori (Ninetales) level 37 |

I haven't filled that slot yet. I was going to with a Dragonair/nite, but I decided that I couldn't be arsed raising it up to the same levels at this point in time so I'll do it later. Yeah, the Feraligatr knows Ice Fang. Damn, I miss Ice Beam. My ice type move of preference. I'm trying to get a Nidoking and an Arcanine before the Elite Four to give me a better chance. |

Well, you should fill that slot with a Special Attacker that can use it then Personally, just because you get the National Dex straight off post-League, I'd recommend something not in the Johto Dex.I'd have replaced Stantler with a starter if Oak or Steven would ruddy well give me them... |

Did twenty minutes of training this morning. Made my first capture for a while when I tossed an Ultra Ball at a Farfetch'd. Quite a good moveset to start off with in Slash, Aerial Ace, Air Cutter and Swords Dance. All while I was heading back to the Safari Zone. Decided to walk over there for some reason. And, I might put one of the starters in there. Probably the grass type. So, either Bulbasaur or Treecko. |

Thing is though, you can't get either of them until after you've beaten Red. I find that really annoying...I think you should be able to have the Kanto starter as soon as you reach Pallet Town... |

That is annoying. But, I suppose if you did that then people would be rushing straight through to Pallet Town without doing any of the gyms. Wait, that's a pretty crap reason to not do it. On reflection. |

What's wrong with that? I explored most of Kanto, except south of Pallet, before starting any gyms. |

Hence my last line. It's probably a incentive to go and beat seven bells out of Red. You do that, you get the rare Pokemon. Today... -Raised both Feraligatr and Growlithe one level. -Altered the safari zone areas. That's pretty cool. |

Yeah, but I'm gonna fight Red anyway. That battle is the coolest in the history of the franchise, nothing since has ever come close. Plus I'd like to be able to level up that starter throughout the region... |

Well, it was probably Nintendo's screwed up reward system, like I said. Just to make sure that you do go and fight Red. Anyway, I got the last badge today. Even if it did require my charged up Ampharos to deck Kingdra. And, filled the last slot in my party with a Lickitung from the safari zone. Never used one in my team before, so I felt like doing it. It was either that or Larvitar. Plus, Lickylicky is a pretty cool Pokemon. Well, maybe it might be the coolest battle in the history of the franchise, but any battle against Lance comes pretty close. Or, what about the battle against Flint and Volkner with the rival in Platinum. That's also pretty sweet. |

Nice, Lickitung and Lickilicky are both unusual choices, but used in the right way can be awesome. That speed's gonna be tricky to deal with though, you thought about how best to deal with that? Trick Room is one option, but takes up a moveslot and a turn. Personally I favour Choice Scarf, it's practically glued to my Donphan. Doesn't make it the fastest Pokémon around, but fast enough. It can knock out most Pokémon in one hit and when it can't it's bulky enough to take a lot. Well, guessing you haven't heard about a certain battle you've got coming up? All I'll say is if you like battling Lance, and you liked battling Flint & Volkner, you'll love what's coming. The coolest battle possible in these games, were it ever to happen, would be either Gold & Silver v. Red & Blue or Gold & Red v. Silver & Blue. Red & Gold v. Brendan & Lucas would be quite cool too, but not the same... Ooh... Gold & Kris v. Red & Leaf...or Gold & Red v. Kris & Leaf, battle of the sexes...that'd rock too... Screw Lyra though. That excuse for a character, along with Gold's hideous name change (nothing against the name Ethan, it's a nice name, although I'll forever associate it with black video game nerds) is the worst change made to these remakes. I liked Gold and Kris. The game names for the playable characters was awesome...plus, Red and Blue just seem like freaks now. Their names are still colours, as is Silver's for that matter. Gold & Kris forever, Ethan & Lyra never! |

What, the one against Lance and Clair? Know about it. Yeah, the speed might be an issue. Because, with Ampharos, Feraligatr, Nidoking and Licklicky, my team's got absolute electric pace, lol. Part of me wants to think that Honchkrow isn't that quick either. In comparison, Growlithe/Arcanine is made to look like Theo Walcott... I better work on that defense. I do have a Choice Scarf, but I'm still raising Lickitung at the moment so haven't used it yet. I wouldn't mind finding a Heart Scale to teach my Growlithe Flamethrower. Prefer that to Overheat or Heat Wave. Mix of good power and good accuracy. Red and Lance vs Cynthia and Steven? That would be awesome. Or, replace in any order. Ethan? Because of the Dino Thunder ranger? I associate the name with Tom Cruise's character in Mission Impossible. |
