Maybe... That's always a possibility. Still haven't decided which one I'm going to get. Probably do what I did with HG and SS. Stay in a state of indecision and decide on the day when I wander into the shop. |

So, it looks like Serebii has confirmed that list of English Gen 5 Pokémon names is official. And I've pre-ordered both Black and White.

And they're out now! Sort of. I don't know of any midnight releases, but in a few hours I'll be getting my game and I still don't know which! EDIT: Ultimately, I simply couldn't choose. I bought both. I've put my team together, only managing it by promising myself I'd use Pokémon that didn't make it I'd use in the other version. I'm starting with White and will eventually have Samurott, Stoutland, Simisear, Archeops, Galvantula and Chandelure. Some Pokémon I'll use in Black are Golurk, Emboar or Darmanitan, Simisage or Simipour, Sigilyph or Jellicent...this generation has some great Pokémon. Just battled a Youngster Joey. I washoping he'd say his Patrat or Lillipup were in the top percentage. No such luck. EDITY EDIT: THE GYM CARETAKER IS CALLED CLYDE!! HE HAS A NAME! EDITIER EDIT: Already sick of Patrat. EDITYEST EDIT: The trainer classes have all been named to remain neutral worldwide! For example, the Soccer Player is now Striker! YES!!! |

Wooo, got it, it's awesome!!!! I've just seen the Munna and the Musharna in the Dreamyard. Current team is Oshawott, Lillipup, Pansear and Purriloin. I will probably get both versions at some point, but staying with White for a moment. The amazing thing is that HeartGold and SoulSilver are more expensive second hand than Black and White are brand new. I want a Golurk. Ground and ghost. Eat that society. The what player, Psyduck? |

That's disconcerting, we have VERY similar teams...still, that's what you get when there are few decent Pokémon early in the game. The monkeys are a real shame. They're so awesome but so overused, every other NPC has them, including the first gym and your rivals. Because of the way they're obtained so many people will end up with them... I currently have Dewott, Stoutland, Simisear, Archen & Joltic. Looking forward to rounding it off with Litwick. It says a lot about feedback to Diamond & Pearl that I can have two fire types on my team now, and neither of them redundant. Well Bongo, in the Japanese versions there's a trainer class that apparently translates to "Soccer Player" (I don't understand either), but for English they've called it Striker. Sadly, however, the word "soccer" is still plastered all over everything. Whilst the graphics are very nice, they're utterly pointless, adding nothing to the game, usually. Skyarrow Bridge is a very notable example of this, there's no point in it, literally nothing happens at any point in the game related to it. I don't play Pokémon for the way it looks, I play for the gameplay. Oh, had a triple battle too. That was fun. Something to note: if you take out the middle opponent Pokémon, and, for example, the one on the left of the screen, your Pokémon on the left of the screen will only be able to target your own middle Pokémon! Happened to me but fortunately it was Archen, which has Acrobatics (all Flying type moves, and a few more, can hit Pokémon on the far side). I want Golurk too, it just didn't fit on this team. When I start Black, though... EDIT: I've just been to Route, where I was offered an egg. I looked it up. It's Larvesta. I'd come to think because 18 was the last route you couldn't go there until after the game and not factored in I could have that...Volcarona is on my Black team, no question. |

Really, you rate Pansear? Sure, it's not bad, but I've seen better fire types. Maybe I'll need to stick with it until it learns a better fire move than Incinerate, but... Just not that sure about it. Whether I'll keep it or not when another fire type comes on offer, I don't know. But, with Incinerate, it's actually so much crapper than it sounds in terms of damage. The burning the berry thing is neat, but the damage is horrible. When it can't kill a lower level grass type in one hit, you know the move isn't that good. They changed Sturdy as well. Now it actually stops one hit KO's from super effective moves, rather than just from Fissure and the like. Maybe it was like that before, but I never saw it like that. And I must have beaten hundreds of Geodudes over the like that have had that ability. My current team is Dewott, Blitzle, Tranquill and Pansear. Don't know what else going to go with. I did have Herdier, but just can't see it as a long term option despite liking it. Might be something to go back to when the game is completed. If Patrat is annoying, the Watchog in the second gym is even more so. Know what else is annoying? Woobat. |

Hmmm... I'm noticing something recurring here about the choice in starter Pokémon. Which is surprising considering I think Psyduck said he hated the idea of Oshawott at the top of the page. Edit. My mistake, it was Hotrod who said that. Not Psyduck. Ah, I managed to get around retaliate by using the rest of my team as cannon fodder. Along comes Oshawott and Razor Shells it into oblivion. Bwahahaha! BTW, I quite like that move. Razor Shell. Edited by Blue Bongo, Mar 6 2011, 02:01 PM.

Correction Blue, I said I hated the name, not the Pokemon itself. I am most likely going to use Oshawott as well. Though Tepig is another high choice. So with White preordered, heres my team layout *hopefully* My team is hopefully going to be Samurott, Stoutland, Darmanitan, Krookodile, Leavanny/Lilligant (undecided) and last but not least, Unfezant. I'll also have "backups" incase I need them for certain gyms or if I feel one of them isn't as good as I thought. These are: Crustle, Sawk, Hydreigon, Archeops and Galvantula. |

My third day playing it, and I have already beaten my third gym leader. My current team is Connor (Servine), Jonson (Purloin), Flashy (Blitzle), Borge (Though the 'g' should actually be a 'j' instead) Timburr), Minnie (Herdier), Suzy (Woobat). Though the final team is not decided yet as I haven't seen all the Pokémon there is. I can agree with you about Skyarrow Bridge. It's so long and boring to go through. Ghost and Ground? Do you two happen to be talking about the Sarcophagus Pokémon? Or am I thinking about Archeops? Edited by Lucario, Mar 6 2011, 02:59 PM.

Yeah, Simisear's ok. Both attack stats and speed are pretty good, and the moves aren't bad either. In hindsight though, I wish I'd gone for Simisage. Simisear does have Grass Knot though, so... Well yeah, 30 is intolerably low power. Yeah, we knew about Sturdy from the Japanese release. It wasn't like that before, but now it won't necessarily block an OHKO, only if it's at full health like anything else. And so many hikers with Boldore... Well, I've not bothered catching and training Pokémon I didn't plan on using long term for years, it's a waste of experience the Pokémon I do want could have. Yeah, I didn't like the name, but in hindsight it's pretty good, actually... Razor Shell rocks. Really Hotrod, you're going with Unfezant? Really? Lucario, it's my third day playing it and I've already beaten the seventh gym leader. Cofagrigus is pure Ghost, and Archeops is Rock/Flying. We were talking about Golurk, like Bongo said. |

Already beaten the seventh gym? Oh man... *Sits down in a corner, ashamed* OK. Golurk, what I have seen seems really cool, and therefor so will I get it. :) I liked to dress up Connor and Janson for the musicals. Connor for Stardom (though in hindsight so should I have him be in A Sweet Soirée due to him being dressed as a gentleman) and Janson for Forest Stroll. |

Ah, yeah, them musical...that's an utterly pointless waste of programming. So Generation III introduces contests, with an "appeals" round that you can't affect at the time and a battle round. That was fun. Generation IV upped it by adding in the ability to dress up, making the appeals more interesting, and adding in a silly dancing bit. Generation V took away the moves - i.e. what makes Pokémon Pokémon - and more or less the dancing too, leaving one button you can use once. After that the owner just makes some random comment and walks away. WHAT'S THE POINT!? I see why they're not being featured in the anime. |

I'm only going for Unfezant mainly because its an early flyer. I'm most likely going to replace it with Braviary. Its mainly a HM Fly slave coz I really don't wanna teach it to Archeops or Braviary. And I don't really wanna catch a Woobat... |
