Presenting our version mascots! Reshiram & Zokram. So...it seems very much like they could represent light and darkness or something...

Zokram reminds me too much of Dialga & especially Palkia...although Reshiram looks interesting...

Based on this alone, I'm thinking I might just choose White over Black, instead of getting the first of the pair as I usually do...

Anywho. Thoughts?

I could think that they are going to be the Pokémon equivalents of Yin and Yang, with that they are being opposites of each others. With Zokram being male while Reshiram being female (or they will be genderless like most other of the legendaries).

I also think that there's a touch of the Lugia about the white one. I can agree that the other one does look a lot like Palkia in shape.

But, I think that they both look awesome.

Here's a suggestion. Maybe they're based on angels. With the wings and all.

The latest from Serebii, they're both Dragon-types, possibly pure, possibly dual-typed....making Zokram seem all the more like a Palkia rip-off...I hope there's more too that than just Game Freak being lazy...

I don't see Lugia in it really...but I see a whole load of Digimon splattered in there. Like Azulongmon...Magnadramon...other Digimon...something that's white...

The wingspan and the face remind me a bit of Lugia.

Wow, it's really not like GameFreak to be lazy at all. (Blaziken/Infernape anyone? Two fire/fighting type starters were just not needed)

Actually, with the white one (Reshiram I think), if you focus out of it, ignoring the details, the limbs etc, just looking at the body and the tail, and the head etc, it's a similar shape to Giratina. The... I forget what that distorted world where it lives is called, but that shape. Just ignore the legs and I can see that. Damn, what was the name of that place? I should know, I set a rangers chapter there once. Lost it completely.

And, apart from Palkia, Zokram seems to have some of the general shape of Garchomp about it. Ignoring the tail and arms, obviously.

So, yeah, it seems like they're just tacked on bits of other Pokémon.

Incidentally, I just remembered, but I think I set a Poké Rangers record. First one ever to use a fifth gen monster in a fic as the basis for an opponent. Even though Lucario created said demon, I still wrote it. OWZIT!

Whoops, I thought Reshiram was the mascot of White and Zekrom the mascot of Black, based on their colours, but turns out it's the other way round. Very interesting.

These two mean that the total of Pokémon is currently exactly 500. What a milestone. Officially, the 500th honour goes to Zekrom.

The games will apparently have some difference other than the usual wild Pokémon appearances, so that'll be interesting... It could mean differences in things to do...or perhaps this pair will be akin to the original Mystery Dungeon games - one being DS, one being 3DS...

According to SerebiiOne of the Pokémon Sunday hosts posted a blog today saying that due to her love of Electric types she wants to get Zekrom (the black one). This isn't confirmed info - it could have been a mistake, and removed because of that, or she might not have been allowed to reveal it yet for whatever reason. Still interesting though.

It doesn't look like an Electric type, but seriously, an Electric-Dragon? That'd be epic. I hope this is the case, and I hope Reshiram gets Fire as its other type.

Good news, everyone! There's hope for the generation yet! And its name is Shimama!

That's right, a bunch of new info has become available! For more details than I can be bothered typing, and pictures, check out serebii.net

So first off, Shimama. It's a zebra. We've wanted a zebra for years! But wait, it gets better. It's mainly black with white stripes, so my first impression was Dark type...but it's not, and when you notice its hair it's obvious; it's Electric type! Electric! How epic's that? I really hope it has a usable movepool and stats, because I want it!

Next...there's a Fire ape. Sounds vaguely like a Fire monkey. Still, at least it's not identical to Infernape, or whatever else. It's big a bulky, and rests its forearms on the ground. When I first saw the picture I thought it evolved from Pokabu. But, at least there'll be more fire types...I just hope some of them are more original...both pigs and monkeys have been overdone in Pokémon. Indeed, they were both covered in the same creatures, back in Gen I...we don't need more, we need more new animals, like zebras!

The next one's an alligator, and whilst we might have had crocodile-like creatures in Gen II, this does actually look interesting. It walks on all fours, low to the ground, and it's Dark/Ground. Sounds pretty cool, kinda reminds me of Hippopotas, but still very unique.

Nintendo are running out of birds...we have another pigeon. Only this one looks like an actual pigeon, the kind you find eating poop on the street. Only more anime. Also reminds me of Starly.

For the love of God I don't know what Munna is. Serebii's called it a pig, but...oh my, it's horrifying...it's a pink ball with stubby legs, barely a face, and actual flowers on its design. Pink means Psychic type, of course. And it's the Dream-Eater Pokémon...haven't we already had that...

The last new Pokémon is a pair of gears attached together...called Gear. Pure Steel type. It looks like Bronzor meets Magnemite.

So, we have a seriously awesome zebra, a pretty cool alligator, evidence of more Fire types, and new Pokémon that actually look like Pokémon.

They also show the new Pokédex and Professor. Get this...it's a woman! Dr Araragi...I'd love it if someone's able to translate, because I can't find a tree by that name...

EDIT: Zekrom is Electric/Dragon. Reshiram is Fire/freaking Dragon!!!!

I'm getting Black. No question. I've been waiting for this since I first saw Charizard.

EDITY EDIT: Making sense, with all the black and white motif, they're actually based on ying & yang. Reshiram is the White Yang Pokémon, and Zekrom - you guessed it - the Black Ying Pokémon.

Reshiram's ability is Turbo Blaze. Zekrom's is Terra Voltage. Both sound equally epic.

Isshu looks pretty cool too. Bit more water than Sinnoh but a lot less than Hoenn...seems to have a good balance...

I'm seriously liking the Black and White pokemon, some of them anyway. I may be in the minority but I actually like the fire and grass starters, the water starter? Not so much. Anyway, I think the dark/ground crocodile and the electric type zebra are just plain awesome. Even though my favorite type happens to be Fire and Electric, (with Dark being number 3) I'm not sure what to think of this fire-type ape. It looks... odd. Not bad or good, just odd.

The normal-type Chinchilla-mouse pokemon, reminds me of Jigglypuff. Cute but not a lot of substance.

Well, the chinchilla's the early rodent, it's not meant to be used past maybe two gyms beyond an HM Slave.

I do like the Grass type starter, my initial rant was a bit overdramatic, I just hate that they're trying to pass it off as a snake. There are few people older than 3 who don't know that a snake is legless.

You forgot Chiramii, the Chinchilla Pokémon. Me myself have nothing special to say, which could be because it's a normal type and doesn't look anything special.

But I could say what I think of the others.

Hihidaruma: Looks tough, but doesn't interest me that much.

Shimama: I think it's cute and lightning rod and motor drive abilities will be interesting to see how it works.

Meguroko: Another cute pokémon who seems to get higher attack boost when knocking out the opponent. A really interesting pokémon.

Namepato: Looks ok I guess, but as said by you Psyduck so does it seem like they are running out of birds.

Munna: Looks like a piggybank. And that's ridicilous.

Gears: A pure steel type that doesn't look that special but got an attack that sounds to be a good one. I wonder if its/theirs evolution will be some kind of a robot with the Gears inside of it (and I want to find that out myself, it will be so much funnier that way).

Still not sure what version I would like to get. But maybe it will be Black.

Yeah, just checked them out and there are some interesting new critters there. So, it's all bound to be good.

Wonder if Gear's evolution would turn out to be one or two more gears attached to it a la Magneton.

Anyway, I don't know which I'll get. I'm going to decide closer to the time, see what else is available in both versions apart from the mascot.

WANT

A badger
A raccoon
A meerkat (with the meerkat rave in the last couple of years, at least here in the UK, thanks to comparethemeerkat.com. Nintendo should take advantage)

DO NOT WANT

Them to just get lazy and slap a Normal or Dark type sticker on them and be done with it, like they did to skunks. Ok, so they're Poison too, but that was obvious. They should have been Fire. Granted, it makes them less interesting - a Fire type with Dark type moves isn't quite as unique as a Dark type with Fire type moves - but still...

Isn't Zigzagoon a raccoon? I believe so. But a badger and meerkat would be cool, most because of the meerkat craze as you said. Animal Planet had a show centered around meerkats and there are a game on WiiWare about controlling a family of meerkats (which I'm not interested in getting, because there are more interesting games out there and coming to Wii, like Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Transformers War For Cypertron).

Anyway... what pokémon would I like to see? I don't think that they have made a pokémon based upon T. Rex, Albertosaurus, Allosaurus or any other big predatory dinosaur. So I will go for that.
