Well not so much a replica per se...but I am using 3d modelling to help plan out another project....

Posted Image

I find these days by doing something like this in 3d first I can see what kinds of awkward obstacles lie ahead when actually the build commences which it has...But with the crap weather it's come to a stop...fingers crossed over the next week or so we'll have a few more "real" pics of this thing as it porgresses

I like the idea of the 3D work prior to a build. As you said you can check for any awkward spots in the upcoming build. The flamer is looking GREAT :D

Cheers, I may go the old cardboard route on this and keep weight down...or foamed PVC <sintra> :D I can see the regulator on the side being the bugger to make...The bottles won't be too hard and the mai section is just a box...was think of making this a working model too B)

Had a look around Wickes, B&Q and plumb centre too for something similar but no joy...I think it's an O2 regulator from some scub gear....shouldn't be too hard to scratch build...the knobs I can use a couple of central heating controls It's all good.

The 3d i'm doing now is a vast improvement over what i used to churn out....looking at revisiting dreds eagle too later and maybe knocking a few patterns out ;)

I'm thinking a cPVC 4 way connector may do the trick :-)

Plus I'm working ona cunning plan to enable this to pack down really neatly in much the same way my Fett Jet Pack does

just managed to draw up the patterns and start cutting

Posted Image

Doesn't look much but I've reinforced the interior so it's quite sturdy. I've out in the preparatory steps to make sure the front nozzle will break down, the tanks and handles can be removed, and the rear tank/ stock thing can be removed too...all using the neck and caps off fizzy bottles epoxied in place...makes for a good way of fitting bits together without having to go into minute tolerances and huge amounts of cutting and calculating :-)

The force.....I'm using super glue for some of it where it won't flex and two part epoxy where it does give a little.

It now has the grips fitted and I'm working on the bottle now. I have thought about what to use to fit it to the main body and my run a length of PVC pie through it so it adds a bit of rigidity....Or I may go the whole hog and insert the super soaker in there

Well managed to do the first of the bottles...

Posted Image

due to the size of the bottle require I decided to make the thing more or less from scratch. But still using the end of a bottle of water to ensure I can remove the thing from the main body for transport. I'll be doing the same for the other one and the rear stock...Which i think in the real prop housed the actual propane bottle. Once that's done and dusted I'll move on to the front where the pipes are situated and the main shroud. Then will come the usual polyfilla trick for a quick and easy smooth finish all over and some major sanding.

Yes mate, it's into squillions of pounds now....development cost alone are outrageous...It's old price boards from work that i snagged when the prices went up and they were throwing the stuff in a skip...so I grabbed it

'nother update...in fact quite a lot has changed since this one was taken at about 2pm today...the second bottle is on and just needs the addition of polyfilla then a bit of sanding....I've bunged a three way CPVC adapter thing into a recess and the bottle hangs snugly from that. Best thing is the whole thing breaks down again into 5 bits. The rear stock does indeed unscrew as does the front flamer thingy <all very technical> the bottles unscrew too for packing away and not much space being taken up....all quite sturdy too

Rubbish that ain`t rubbish at all :p
Martin once it`s built are you coating it in anything for strength? More importantly do you have plan`s or plans to cast it?

It's fairly robust as it is <even if the surface is prone to nicks and scratches....No plans as yet to mould it up mate I was only doing it specifically for the event and maybe the movie mania weekend....I'd have to have a serious sit down and think about how i'd mould this...as it all breaks down in to smaller components...we can have a chinwag over the weekend about it Jason

Sounds like a plan Martin :D I`m going to have to look into making the Dec Movie Mania one :D

Hey if it`s un-feasible to cast though then don`t worry.

No it just awkward as I'd have to work out how to make the connections for the rear cylinder and the bottles etc...It's the small iggly piggly bits that cause the head aches...the main section would be easy to do as a simple two piece block or glove mould.

Next i will be having a bash at scratch building this...
