It all depends on the kit you have, and what paint you'll be running through it. If it's for latex I use pax paint as a base layer <prosaide adhesive mixed with latex> then use FW inks for colouring....Getting a base coat on as soon as possible is a great way of preserving you latex masks, sunlight can turn a mask into goo in a short space of time. a base coat will preserve it. |

FW inks a re a brand of nice translucent inks that you can thin further with alcohol...added bonus is if you use PAX as a base coat the alcohol reactivates the adhesive in the base layer and the inks stick better They give a really nice finish ans you can build up colurs in washes and layer things to get a very realistic looking depth to the colours.![]() ![]() This is the kind of result you can get with them, that was my first time painting with an airbrush too Edited by maverick118, Sep 15 2011, 09:14 PM.

You should be able to find them in an arts and crafts shop...I get mine from a local toy shop that stocks a lot of arts and hobby stuff...you could have a look on amazon too. |

Nope, it's the base coat with the prosaide in it that allows the inks and paint to flex and not crack mate. |

Hi mate, the PAX is simply a 50/50 mix of prosaide and acrylic paint...could be cheap stuff from the craft shop...The main reason for uisng PAX is because the prosaide adhesive is water based not a solvent etc and won't break down the latex. Mould life stock prosaide mate as well as a few other FX houses...it's not too expensive either |

you do have to be careful when using PAX through an airbrush mind, prosaide is a glue after all....just make sure you clean it after using it and you should be fine...having said that I generally stipple on the base layer with a stipple sponge...you know the ones the balck ones with the big wide holes they charge a bomb for in BOOTS etc...the same that you can get in big blocks from the aqwuarium shops for peanuts
