Hi guys, need some advise. The shoulder bells on my Vader are two tone.

I want to paint them totally black, as an ESB should be. Can anyone guide me through the process of repainting the bells.
Once i get them ready for painting I can get then get them repainted in a car body shop, but it's not cheap.

So any help is greatfully received

All depends what kind of paint is on them now and what paint they will be spraying them with. If it's cellulose you are best to strip it off as it may react with some primers . Do you intend to prime it yourself or will the body shop do that?
Most paint strippers like nitromors will strip cellulose . If its in an acrylic or 2k paint now you can just flat it down with wet and dry paper and they can spray over that with 2 k primer and the black finish .

There are many ways pf doing this, if you can contact MJ ask him how he does his stuff.

I'd strip it right back myself by sanding, then use a primer and it's a case of prime and sand using higher grades of wet and dry, to get a black glass like finish, the more effort you put in the better the results. I wouldn't use a rattle can myself but an airbrush if you have one. Spray light coats of black enamel gloss, it's how I got a glass like black finish on my 3PO before I added alclad.

MJ. did all his with 2k paint Tony so not an option for the DIY route.

As Tont said an airbrush will give great results but if you don't have access to one then you can get good results with rattle cans if you put the time in.

As Tony said , strip back all the paint first then thoroughly clean the shoulders. Key up with a fine wet n dry then give a few good coats of primer. Allow to dry and give the primer a rub down with an 800+ grit and get the primer as flat as possible. Then coat with a few coats of black ( I used halfords BMW black on my vader) you could flat this down with a 1200 + wet and dry but to get a deeper shine it's best to use a laquer and then flat it down , use water when flatting it down , dip the paper in as much as you can as this will stop the paint clogging in the paper as you sand it and wipe with a cloth every now and then . Again I use halfords laquer for this, do quite a few coats for better results and allow as long as you can for drying .
