This has always been a tricky helmet to get right as it only has a few seconds of screen time in ANH and is seen fleetingly in ESB, but literally only in a couple of frames. There don't appear to be many decent reference photos about and so we have had to focus on high def screen grabs and frame advancing for this one.

There have been some very good fan reproductions of this helmet over the years but I have always wanted to get closer to complete screen accuracy. When I first started studying this helmet properly about 18 months ago, one of the very first things that struck me was a small area of artwork (probably a decal) that runs along the back of the left and right hemishpheres. To the best of my knowledge and having looked at (and owned some of) the better fan reproductions over the years, I do not believe that this had been incorporated in a replica helmet before and certainly not at that time.

I've tried to show what I mean in the screen grab and back-stage photo by circling the area that I'm referring to;

We have worked on reproducing this and are reasonably confident that it is in fact a variation of the artwork that can be seen on other helmets such as Red 4 (below) and some Y-wing pilots;

Beyond this, we were keen to see as much detail of the back, mowhawk and sides of the helmet as these are almost impossible to see in ANH. Fortunatley we saw that the helmet gets a few seconds on screen in ESB in two scenes in the Hoth hangar;

Tony has had the unenviable task of replicating this on an SDS X-Wing helmet. It's been a very painstaking task as there are huge areas to mask and we keep finding new areas of detail that we missed and so he's had to go back and re-do!

Anyway, Tony must take all the credit for this. I've done a bit of research but he has done some incredible work on this helmet and I cannot wait to have the finished item in my collection along with the other helmets that you have worked on for me Posted Image

Great photos, it really has taken some bashing since ANH. So I just need to replace the Vs with those wing type decals and add a slight bit more weathering.

I hate the red blue line stickers placed on the top.

I'll make this one close to how it was in the movie not how the years have changed it.

There is some discussion about the Helmet on Rebel Legion's forum also.
Apparently, the broken "meatball" decal just above the "bird" was there from the beginning.

At least one helmet was changed after filming. The "blast screen" helmet (that Luke wore on the Millennium Falcon in ANH) was modified with a pilot's visor and worn by a female pilot in ROTJ. Most of her shots were cut, but stills from the production remain. That helmet has a red stripe on the mohawk now that is not in the pics from ROTJ.
