Hi all, can anyone recommend a fix for this lid. It appears only the paint is cracked, not the gelcoat.

So whats the best way to proceed, total sand down and respray?

I am not sure if anyone is the same, but I am 1stly a prop collector THEN a costumer.
there are props that I collect for display and others that I get for trooping. And I am slightly ashamed to admit, that the trooping gear often doesnt get as much TLC as my display stuff.

That said

(1) Display - total sand down and repaint. It would drive me nuts
(2) Trooping lid - its only a matter of time some thing ELSE becomes an issue. Certainly sand back the area, wet/dry sand, a little filler if needed (I use the car stuff eg u-pol and the like). Sand again, then paint that area only and paint. ie like a car repair.

But thats me :D

Nate

Thanks for the info guys, luckily this isnt mine. It's one im looking to buy. It's a VM pull so would need to treat it with maximum respect.

It wont be for trooping, either display or after repair I would sell it on.

If its a VM it will either be in 2k (shiny version) or cellulose for the satin finish version . Cellulose you need to be careful what paint you go over it with as it will react , 2k is fi e whatever .

not that its damaged, but what would you need if it were to require a respray - paint wise that is

Acrylics would react with cellulose and vice versa, flat back and do in celly again or 2k . It has a hardner so it's more resilient and the topcoat doesn't need a laquer.

Nice vader btw :)
