having been inspired by a good mate doing this costume, I wanted a cheaper, more personal version of this mask to play with.

for those not familiar with it - this is the mask I wanted to make - from the Old Republic MMORPG

there are at least 2 versions seen in the trailers, and many fans have done personal versions too. There are also 2 fan made masks already out there, both glorious, but are takes on the 1st mask above.

my idea was to make a generic smooth mask, with the elements of the mask built into it. So it would form a nice template for people to paint or build on further.

I started with a Revan mask I had in my collection. A 2nds pull and abandoned project from a while ago

after abt 3 hours of dremelling, HIPS stripes, ice cream sticks and body filler later.....

a bit more general shaping

the plan is to mold these and make some budget casts available in the UK!

main reason is that although I have machines - I only get into the shop abt 10 pm when kids have gone to bed, so have to sand by hand :(

anyways - some basic sanding done

if it makes it to mold and casting - would Mr B consider doing a fancy paint up at the next Prop Display time you think? Id happily supply you one before the event so you can do clean up, priming etc ?

actually - my original idea was to paint on the details, but once the base mask is done, I might do a built up version. What you think? Foam? Styrene?

any recommendations welcomed!

Styrene sheet? should be easy to form to the curves. and you can keep far sharper details than foam too

anyways - mold done and ready for the next RPB prop table

do you guys want castings to play with or me to bring the mold and do a casting demo? It only takes abt 500g of PU resin per mask

Ohhhh a demo would be most excellent mate :-) is that 500g pure resin? You could probably reduse the amount of resin by putting some aluminium trihydrate in the mix

It's 150ml of resin each pour mixed w 3 tbs of aluminium trihydrate and 1 tbs of fibreglass microspheres. Then the slush done in 3 parts.

U think. Could used for filler?

You can load resin up to 400% ally trihydrate. I often use it to bulk out urethane to make a brush able consitency for jackets to my silicone moulds

It's like making your own plastipaste and keeps the weight down. Just work quickly as it can kick and take you by surprise

Do a detail coat first mate with no filler, just enough resin to coat the piece....The more ally tri H in the mix the slower is moves.
