Made a start on some pieces for a Dredd 3D Judge. Gonna scratch build as much of this as possible, as I am on a budget. First job, the badge.

Did some research on various prop boards and the concensus is a badge approx 90 x 120mm, so I scaled up a picture and started cutting layers from styrene.

The eagle feathers are at a quite steep angle and not just bevelled slabs...Which is what i thought they were until the blue ray came out so had to adjust my badges, which was pain int the bum

Are you using plastalina...it's really good to work with when making hard mechanical stuff as it comes in varying hardness

More pics :D

I just used some 1.5mm black styrene sheet that i had lying around. Never used plastina, sounds like interesting stuff.
I'll probably file down the bottom feathers.

Next stages;

First primed with flat black, then airbrushed with brass finish acrylic paint.

Acrylic wash added to give depth and weathering]

Next onto the belt buckle...........

Ohh someone else that uses whats' left over from other projects. I used a combination of 1.5mm and 1mm styrene sheet for mine before moulding and cold casting it :-)

I wasn't that happy with the last version ( not sharp in places, I added a ridge around the edge that shouldn't be there, the bottom feathers were too slab sided, as Martin said, and the angled edges were uneven ).

Remade it, using the letters from version 1, in the same method although I angled an entire strip evenly before cutting up the individual bits.

I'll weather it tomorrow.

Made a start on the buckle too today ( any chance mods could add 'buckle' into the title ?)

Printed out a few images at different sizes until I got one that looked right.

This I then cut up into it's constituent parts;

Posted Image

These I then glued onto offcuts of Kydex sheet. The central part is double thickness so that I can get the curvature on it.

Posted Image

Roughly shaped them with the dremmel sanding disc. Just laid ontop of each other here, nothing glued yet.

Posted Image

Next to begin curving the central section ( and figuring pout how to get the imprinted stars ).

A productive day working on the belt buckle.

Added strips of styrene to the central section and sanded the curves into the edges
Posted Image

Dremmelled and filed the feather ridges
http://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt323/daz70/buckle6_zps37f2a6e8.jpg[/img]

Drilled and filed out the five stars across the top strip ( labourious, but successful ) and added this to the central shield. Also curved the sides a little more.

Assembled, filed and sanded smooth and airbrushed a few coats of brass finish paint.

I’ll post a pic of the badge and buckle weathered later on.........

Just waiting on delivery of my Glock 17 and I can make a start on the Lawgiver....
