Hi guys,
thought I'd start a progess thread of my DLT 19 build, I've decided to build one to use at my MS fundraisers. The picture below is actually my second attempt at a basic body, I was given an MG 34 blueprint link off the net, which has allowed me to have a bash at a more accurate build hopefully LOL.

Hi mate,
I'm using tannalised pine and due to having an undersatding boss, I've got access to wood working machinery, which is going to be a massive help. I'm going to try and create something that will resemble an MG34/DLT 19 but it won't be 100% accurate. I'm hoping it will be a great addition to the MS fundraisers I take part in, I'm also thinking of building a sandtrooper back pack to add another element to the MS events, watch this space.

I've used timber as the core for many blaster builds.

Good job so far mate.

I tended to 'skin' the timber with 0.5mm sytrene sheet. That way you don't get a woodgrain popping thru your paintjob.

Styrene sheet sounds like a good idea, I've now roughly cut out the pistol grip, I won't properly attach it until I've carried out more work on it.

Roughly cut butt section added, going to have to do some serious sanding now.

That's coming along nicely

Another thing to remember is when it's done to try and keep it somewhere dry . In damp conditions timber will swell up and crack the paint job .

I mostly use mdf as it will swell up a little but nothing like timber does and you can get a smoother finish on it

Thanks for the tip, tbh I hadn't thought about that. I hadn't thought about using MDF either, think I'll use that next time.

Excellent work, just looking at the work gone into this...Always been a bit daunted working on a big prop like this, and you've done a cracking job there :-)

Thanks guys, worked stopped at the mo due to lack of time. I don't how possible this would be but I've been thinking of maybe trying to make moulds from my build and maybe cast in resin. I could have a couple of DLT's then.

If you do it would be best to mold in smaller sections .

It's a big prop though and you'll need to use a lot of silicone to cast it .

Yep, I was kind thinking of breaking it down, I might have a bash at casting the muzzle section first and see how it goes.

Decided to just crack on with the build, might consider casting idea in the future. Found a bit of time today to start shaping the butt.

Next stage is to break it down in order to cast it, this will be an experience. I want to make a resin version as I think it will be more durable than the original. Can't wait to have it at the MS Troopers fundraisers.

Haven't bothered weathering it due to the dismantle, will have a bash at weathering the resin version.

Thanks mate !, it's took a while but I'm well pleased with the result. I've built an E-11 before but that wasn't a complete scratch build project.

When you make something from scratch it's a really satisfying <if a bit daunting> feeling when it's complete...tinged with the "what do I make next" :-)
