just found the story about the old railway line in thrybergh. Knowing the area thought id have my tuppence worth lol The story about the man gettin killed on the line is true i remember this when i was young, from what i remember im sure he got both his legs chopped off. As for the sound of trains and children im pretty sure these r just stories although i have heard ppl say they,v heard trains down there. Been an old dissused and dark place im sure ur gonna hear stuff the mind plays daft tricks on u in the dark (just my opinion) I have walked the full length of this track in the dark years ago and yup its eerie but i think thats all it is. There is other stories about ghosts n stuff in thrybergh like the main house at the golf course thats haunted, a supposedly white lady down by the canal and the usual grave yard stuff. Oh and theres a pub thats run down undergoing a face lift etc my sons seen things in this pub when it was open (dont know if its the spirit in the bottle talkin lol) but there was once talk of the owners gettin tv crews, ghost hunters etc in as they was convinced they wasnt alone after closing time.

hiya and thnx. The pub is The Royal Oak its situated on the corner of Hollings Lane a bend which thrybergh stops n ravenfield starts. The landlady that had this pub wouldnt go in certain parts on her own ( i think it was more the staircase to their living quarters) that she felt something. Theres been lots of dark shadows seen all around the pub by various people. im a believer but like to keep an open mind and look for a logical explanation first as you cant believe everythin you see or hear to be unexplained.. iv had my own little personal experiences too many to list some id rather forget lol i did see my parents though which was a great feeling. I woke up in the middle of the night and saw them side by side in my mirror i believe this to be true but please fire away with any reasonable explanation Im sure gonna look up my village history now as i love hearing the ghost stories old and new ^^ |

Hi Penny and everyone, yes I know the pub you're talking about and a bar maid did tell me once that a ghost was seen on the stairs area like you said so maybe there's something in it. Although my niece used to work there as a barmaid and she never said she saw anything. The pub used to be the old Silverwood Pit Manager's house long ago, my hubby (who used to work at Silverwood Pit) thinks his name was Mr Tuke. (Not 100% on the name.) I heard that someone is turning the old pub into flats but not sure if it's true 'cause they've been renovating it for ages now! As for the death on the railway, yes it did happen I know the lads name. Kids used to jump on the coal wagons as the trains went by and I think he fell off and went underneath. It happened just down from where I lived, our house backed onto the railway. I've never heard that the railway was haunted but it does have a strange feel about it. The house that I was brought up in had some very strange goings on though I can tell you and I've never found an explanation for them!!! |
