Ano wot yer gonna say before yer say it, but roach abby is a fantastic place and never dissapoints, even if it has been done a million times lol. We went last night and for some of my gang it was there first time there. It was lighting too (very atmospheric). The entire place was silent honest i ave never heard the place soo lacking in sound. Very creepy. no owls no nothing. Maybe that was prob down to the lighting. We went round to where the hole in the fence used to be, and while round there one of the team noticed some shapes in the feild. He was convinced they where bulls!! we went for a closer look as i ave been to roach abby many times now and i have never noticed live stock in that feild. All of us could see about a dozen or so black shapes in the field. They seemed to be comming towards us slowley. we decided the must be cows as the where the right size and shape. We carried on with or invest. then noticed they where even closer but we could still not tell if they where cows or not as they where very black and made no sound. no moo'ing or anything. When i decided enough was enough and went to check em out i felt like i was walking through treakel. Kenco didnt like it and made me stop. So we went back up to the entrance bit and did some evp stuff. We put it down to cows in the feild. so we didnt think much of it. Untill this morning when i said they made no noise and we went back to look. No cows. spoke to lee s he says no cows. what the hell were they then? If anyone knows please can u let me know? |

Been once, was dead as a door nail so I want to go again and maybe a few more times after as well. The more times you go to a place the more chance of experiancing something, after all spirits dont haunt 24/7 365 days a year in the same place. |

At risk of repeating myself in a previous post, ghosts and spirits are not around 24hrs 7 days a week in the same place. As we do more invests there I am sure things will pick up - just like Hoober Stand! Take nothing for granted as we found out! |

I am sure many of you have seen this link for the history on the abbey http://cistercians.shef.ac.uk/roche/location/ Ghostly apparitions at Roche Matthew Paris, a monk of the Benedictine abbey of St Albans, Hertfordshire, wrote an extensive chronicle in which he mentions ghostly apparitions that occurred near Roche in 1236. Matthew did not himself witness these events, and shows little knowledge of Roche or the north of England, but reports what he has heard from reliable witnesses. These include Richard, earl of Gloucester, a leading magnate of the day. In May 1236 the locals of Roche were startled when troops of knights, riding on horses and fully armed with shields, standards, helmets and coats of mail suddenly appeared out of thin air. They had never before seen such a sight, and were terrified, yet drawn to the scene, and watched from a distance. They remained transfixed, observing these splendidly armed knights who rode in organised lines, and then engaged in fighting, with a tremendous clash of swords. After several days the vision vanished just as suddenly and mysteriously as it had appeared. The inhabitants of Roche were not the only ones to witness such a scene, and similar occurrences were noted at Southerfell, Cumberland and Suffolk. In some parts of Ireland the people saw knights, who were bloody, wounded, and dragging their horses behind them, as if returning from battle. Their footsteps could be seen on the ground, and the grass was trampled underfoot where they had walked, causing many to think that that this was not simply a vision. Fearful that these were real knights returning from a real battle, they fled, seeking refuge in churches and castles. http://cistercians.shef.ac.uk/roche/location/quote.php |

Yes. We where there with a miduim called ian. he had no seen wot shabs had put on here and non of us ad told him. Just that we had seen shapes in the feild. when we got to that spot he told us about a army camp where they where resting. No horse just tents etc and these blokes milling around watching us. It kinda makes sence cos it looked to one of my lot like they where in formation with there sheilds in front of em if yer get me. honestly though no idea wot they where, but to be seen by six ppl at the same is amazing. Thats why i was so sure it was not paranormal, but it seems now I was wrong. |

I like roach abbey cause i simply like abbeys, Bolton abbey is an exellent 1 but it's just been on the news, unfortunetly a child has just drown there. Ive crossed those steppin stones too which cross over it's river, i did'nt realize the current there was so strong as it looked calm when i crossed it. This is where the childs fallen in an been swept away apparently. It's a beautiful abbey tho and massive acres of land to it. I suggest u look on web 4 more info on that 1, as it would be brill to camp there.
