Not big, about the size of 2 terreced houses. I got the invest last night after someone messaged me on FB ![]() My first Investigation I have managed to secure and make happen I am so pleaed with myself lol! haha! She wants a medium there, so we need to find one or else, and hard as this is to say, I will ask Ozzie myself. Her mum and dad believe in the paranormal so I dont want to upet them by trying to disproove a lot of things as to them, its a comfort that they think the spirits there are family members who have passed away over the years, and I dont want to destory that for them. The daughter, who I dealt with, she isnt so sure if she believes and tries to find the scientific explanation for things. |

I have told the owner our medium is on holiday, and that we dont usually bring them to pre-invests anyway as they might find out information from us insted of picking it up/ haha! So, no medium for tonight, all being well I hope lee has asked alyisha to join us in time for the investigation at this place. All we are doing is a walkround with interview at the same time in each area. Instead of sittong in one place and doing the interview, we wil interview each area. As i understand it from Lee, Lee S and Simon will walk round with the owner asking the questions about sightings, another person will record it, another will have EMF meter only in the background, someone else will have dictaphone only in the background, and the rest will be behind the camera, no taking photo's during the interview (this is done after). Is it worth doing the walkround with lights on, then during the actual investigation, the owner can walk round with a medium while being filmed in nightshot and see whats picked up? Then we will do the rest of the investigation same night? Just an idea. |

Went very well, owners are very nice and very interested, not like the usual crowd who are one track minded they are very open minded. EMF base readings were very strange, first time ever we have got no explanation for what readings we got. Cant wait for this invest which is: February 14th (Valentines day yes) 9pm start, meet at Lee S house 8pm as we having a short meeting first. Areas to investigate are: Deli shop floor and kitchen area Butchers shop floor, back room and small corridor Beauty shop waiting area (use to be bedroom), corridor and rooms |

As I have just started looking at the history of the Wickersley area i came accross this article. http://www.wickersley.info/pdf/history.pdf which gives reference to a haunting next to the Wickersley working mens club: The Grange, which has an old Toll Booth built into the corner of its wall, stands next to what is now the Wickersley Club on what was the original road to Bawtry. Now a two-storey Georgian house, originally a singlestorey dwelling with a thatched roof, is reputed to be haunted by the ghost of a previous owner, dissatisfied by his sons’ alterations to the house after his death. |

This is a photo of the building on the far left, you can verify this by looking at google street view, the roofs have changed and the brickwork has altered but i think you will agree that this is it. Not sure on a date of this photo, possible very late 1800's or very early 1900's picture |

Looking along Bawtry Road today, it is easy to distinguish between the old and more modern buildings. The old village was built entirely of stone. In some instances, the ground floors have been changed into shops, but a glance at the facades reveals their original use. Prior to the construction of the dual carriageway, the old road followed the route of the side-road from the end of Chevril Court, up to the Masons’ Arms. There were two public houses, one being the White Swan, of which there is now no sign, and the Masons’ Arms. The current Masons’ is a replacement for the original building. I was considering that maybe one of these buildings could have been the swan but i think not. I need a trip to the archives! I have found reference to a ruin behind the buildings but i am not sure what it is? Could be nothing and its not as close as i thought looking at the maps. The building is on the 1892 maps but the earlier maps i have had access too are a bit rubish |

The husband of the couple who own the Deli said that there was just fields behind it when his grandad baught it, before the housing estate was built, and he use to bring his caravan onto the field. He didnt mention any other buildings. Thats nots saying there wasnt one. |

the ruin appears on a 1950's OS map so it could have come from an archaeological dig, still looking into it |

http://www.wickersleyweb.co.uk/stories/shops.htm![]() Wickersley has changed much over the years. Businesses have come and gone and shops have changed ownership. My memories are of the 1960's when I was at St Alban's school. Bawtry Road My journey starts as you travel from Rotherham, past Lister's castle. There was a general grocer on Dale Road, on the right hand side in the first house's front room. Here you could purchase items such as washing powder, brushes other household items. At the corner of Springfield Road was a car show room which I think belonged to Listerdale Motor Company. Next door was a shop but I can't remember what it sold. Across the main road John Powell's booking office was in the corner house and in the same terrace of houses Miss Spencer had her hair dressing saloon. This was where my dad's sisters had their hair done every two weeks. Further along, past the fish and chip shop, was Wickersley's Co-op. The building is now Edward Healy & Son. My journey now takes us back across Bawtry Road. John Glaisher had a general grocery store (until recently a newsagent) and next door was Millward's garage with petrol pumps on the pavement where now you can enjoy a cup of coffee. Upstairs there was a betting office. Around the corner, on Green Lane Mr Pearce repaired shoes and further along there was a factory which made fencing, I think this was owned by a Mr Wood and at number 2 Green Lane was F. A. Booth, Family Butcher, my dad. On the other corner of Green Lane stands the Three Horse Shoes and in 1960 Mr. & Mrs. Hart (Bob and Margery) were behind the bar, they had two daughters Jo and Jackie. Moving along Bawtry road took you past Doctor Kennerly's surgery and Stringer TV sales and repairs. On the corner of The Grove, Mrs. Boyd ran a drapers shop where you could buy clothes, wool and matchbox cars! Next door to her was a barber's shop where my dad had his hair cut. Mr. Albert Smith, Butcher was the next shop with saw dust sprinkled on the floor (this is still Smiths Butchers). At the rear, now The Courtyard was an ice cream factory. The next shop along Bawtry Road was Staniforth's selling bread and cakes (until recently this was a car spares shop). Then you came to the greengrocers owned by Mr. & Mrs. Pellett, today you can eat an Indian meal in this building. The next two shops stood well back from the road with a garden to the front, they housed a small tea room and the Majestic Hair Saloon. Then came the best shop in the village as far as many children were concerned, Mrs Woodcock's sweet shop. Here on the shelves stood many jars of sweets, candy and sherbet. She also had a fridge containing ice cream and lollies. This property was demolished when the road was altered and became a duel carriageway. So we have a Barbers where the Deli is and the butchers which still is. |

just a trivial bit and nothing really to do with the shop: As early as 1903 Rotherham Rural District Council was proposing to introduce piped water to the village. This met with little support from the villagers who preferred their well water. The scheme was resurrected in 1910 and approved in 1912. Many villagers expressed their objection to the new mains water on the grounds that it "had no life in it". The parish council supported Rotherham Corporation's scheme to run trolley buses to Maltby. When this service started in 1912 it greatly improved the public transport available to the villagers. In 1921 the parish council agreed to participate in the West Riding's scheme for village libraries. Gas lamps were introduced to Wickersley's streets in 1927 well well well   "a dunt waant that wata" |
