Not really with the clan chat. I don't see any big problems with a temporary ban, using someone's old username is a clear attempt at impersonating them, even if it's a joke - it still results in some negative reactions. He's stuck with the name for a month, we either completely ignore it and don't do anything (which only increases the chances of it happening again, or other people imitating it), or do something to stop/limit their ability to cause trouble with it (copying people's username generally seems to cause more negative reactions than good from my experience). It is a long ban, but there's not much that can be done about it since the decision to restrict name changes to 1 per month is made by Jagex. A shorter ban makes the ban pointless because you can't change the name before the month is up so the effects of having it still occur. It's only temporary, so once the month is up and you change your name you'll be allowed back in as usual. If you don't have membership to change your name, then I'm assuming you won't be playing much/at all anyway, so most likely won't be using any clan chats either. Once you get back into playing, you'll probably get membership and can change your name and rejoin if you want to. Also, keep in mind this is only a temporary ban, some of your responses in this thread are bordering on breaking the rules. So be a bit more careful what you're saying unless you want to end up with a more serious ban (or better yet listen to Zeldy and try to drop it, there isn't anything you can say to remove the ban so it's pointless trying to have it removed. Best you can do is just wait it out and make sure you don't do it again). The chat rules have to be followed (including any 'new' rules that come up as a result of something that hadn't be thought of before that could cause problems), you may not agree with all of them, but they are there to help keep the chat free from excessive spam, flaming etc. |
