Jagex
While Jagex is a clear industry leader in making our games and infrastructure secure, some of our players’ personal computers have proved vulnerable to account hijacking in the form of viruses, key loggers, phishing websites or players simply revealing their Jagex password. Given these challenges, we are determined that your account remains secure at all times, even if your personal computer has been compromised or somebody else knows your password. We think we have found a solution to these problems: the Jagex security key.

This key looks a bit like a USB dongle, which you will be able to put on your key ring or store in a secure location. The key will reveal a six to eight-digit code that changes every few seconds and is completely unique to you. Type this code into a Jagex login page and you will be able to guarantee that you are secure from any hijacking attempt.

For the techies out there, the key is an ‘Enterprise two-factor authentication solution’. We’re really enthusiastic about its potential to stop hijackers and phishing sites in their tracks, but since this will require significant investment and resources, we aren’t going to make any final decisions without talking to you first. We would like you to head over to the poll system, on the left-hand side of the RuneScape front page, and answer two questions: would you be interested in buying one of these security keys, and what is the most you would be willing to pay?

With the Jagex security key, we would be so confident that your account is secure that we could consider adding expanded bank space to those accounts that are protected by the Jagex security key.

NOTES – it would not be compulsory to buy the security key. It would be an optional means for you to keep your account genuinely secure. The Jagex security key would be available to all countries for a single one-off price. The security key would be available to both free players and members.

While we are enthusiastic about the Jagex security key, there are still a number of variables that could determine whether we can roll this out, ranging from technical challenges and, naturally, players' interest in the device.

Please give us your feedback in the Jagex Store Feedback forum.

Thanks,
Mark Gerhard

i read through that new article and thought that it was a good idea... until i saw the line that says people that get it will get more bankspace

to be honest thats surely a way of encouraging people to buy it just to use the bank space

okay... i don't care if there selling crap like that, but when you have to put expanded bank space with it, that's just wrong. If you pay to be a member on rs, then you should have the same benefits of everyone else. If someone can pay extra money to buy bank space.. i don't want to see what this game is going to turn into..

I think this update just goes to show you that jagex really does only care about the money.

Good idea for people who have spent a massive amount of time working on their account and want a bit more security for it.

Wonder what they'll do if someone loses it or something, if you can't log on without it, you're gonna have to get it replaced somehow. If you get a decent amount of bank space I might get one just for that lol.

The minimum price question is pretty pointless lol, a lot of people aren't gonna answer that truthfully, they'll just pick the lowest/best deal option (which so far they have).

and ya rock, dunno what the reasons are for not giving us more bank space, but I'm pretty sure they could make use of unused slots that lower levels don't use. Makes no sense to give someone with like 100 total level the same bank space as someone with 2000+. I'm guessing it'll be something to do with storing the data or bank loading time, they already store a shit load of data about our characters anyway, don't see how 100 or so extra bank spaces is gonna be any problem when they're already storing probably tens of thousands of things about our characters anyway. And as for the loading speed, I doubt many high levels with overflowing banks would really care about waiting a second or two for their bank to load, as opposed to spending ages trying to find junk to get rid of.

Agreed, I made a topic about it. QFC: 73-74-245-59143423

This sounds like the first step to "pay more, be better". Starting to sound like most mmoprgs online stores...

yea indeed they could. i have a few quotes i'd like to point out that makes it seem like jagex isn;t really 100% this works and just wants to sell this product to make money, so they added extra bank space knowing they wouldn't sell it very well without it..

Some quotes.....

"We think we have found a solution to these problems: the Jagex security key."

Notice how they said they THINK they found the solution. This means they are not 100% sure that there "security key" will even stop hackers!

"With the Jagex security key, we would be so confident that your account is secure that we could consider adding expanded bank space to those accounts that are protected by the Jagex security key."

Notice anything wrong with this quote? well, if your soooo confident that the key will protect your players, why the hell does it make sense to add extra bank space LOL????

that quote right there realllllly got me going lmao. I mean come on now... what does extra bank space have to do with how confident you are that your key works LOL!

Jagex is definitely NOT the same company they use to be and i don't like where there heading.

EDIT: Z berenice, i completely agree, that's where it looks like jagex is heading to.. "pay more, be better"

In my opinion, everything started when jagex started making changes in their staff.
New ones thinks more money wise, as soon as I saw MMG took down bts, I knew jagex were running out of ideas, and my worst fear was that runescape would one day become the typical mmorpg with an online store to boost your character with real cash.

yes i 100% agree, that's exactly what i thought to (but not the online store for boosting skills part)

watch out guys here's what's next!

we have new runescape runecrafting and slayer skill t shirts out! We also added a special package if you buy them, we will give you 1 week of getting double experience in the skill t shirt that you buy!

so if you buy a runecrafting t shirt, you get 2x exp in runecraft for 1 week!

lmao i can so see that happening.

i think jagex is starting to do some rwt of their own lol.
we pay them real money, they give us benifits in game, pretty much
the same as gold farmers giving us gp if we pay them real $

edit: not saying that i have ever bought gp with real $. lol

I'm definitely getting it. Why? Cuz my acc got hacked for the THIRD time today, and I want it as secure as possible, 3k from 99 HP too :'( . But yeah, it's worth the 6 years I've worked on my account, question is: Will I get it back so I CAN buy it?
Retired from RSMDB for the most part.
