Theres a huge difference between selling the security keys with bank space and selling runescape cash/items. Jagex want as many players accounts as possible safe from being hacked. Why? Because they spend god knows how many hours chasing up on phishers and helping players recover their accounts. IMHO, Jagex have played their cards right on this update, and despite having never been hacked, I'd be on the buyers list. The bank space is just an incentive to save some staff hours. I am not, however, saying that selling advantages for real-life cash is the way to go. This would clearly ruin the game, but lets face it, the advantage from extra bank space is a good incentive to buy whilst not giving a large advantage to players that buy it. |

The problem is, I'm already paying for more bank space with my membership, why should I pay more for something I am supposed to get when updated in first place? I'll definitely pay extra for more security, but only because I know this product is not free to make; I won't pay for getting an extra advantage that I was supposed to get with my membership. I don't think f2p players will get an advantage for this either, the bank space is not excuse, since they can pay membership for that; if they only want more bank space, they can just pay a membership wich is CHEAPER and EASIER to get. If they want security, buy the product then, if they want both, get both then; but don't mix those two. No offense to anyone, but if jagex actually includes bank space for this, that would be a pile shit put in the top of a teasing stick. Also, I see a contradiction here, jagex is pretty much breaking their own rule with this: Quote from jagex rules:
Guess is time to return jagex the favor, they like being literal to us when it comes to reports; ok, I'll be literal with them now: Jagex is breaking its own rule by indirectly selling an ingame content. Thing is different with memberships, because ALL MEMBERS get the same product, in this case, access to the whole game, so there's not an actual advantage. F2p have the oportunity to expand the game, membership is optional for them, and since they can't interact with members features, there's no advantage either. I see why rwt was taking down now. I feel ashamed now, because I actually thought Jagex did it for the horrendous truth behind rwt, but now they'll do some of it by themselves... This is just a first step. Starting to lose the respect I have for Jagex and their staff... With those newcomers mods and with these changes, I see me changing to another game in the not so distant future. Edit: People are actually suggesting jagex in the forums to open an online store... I swear, if they do that I'll just quit, download silkroad again (didn't play it for being on runescape), and play it alongside with requiem, both have online stores and for the prices they have, I bet I'll pay less for both than I'll pay for runescape... This is really starting to piss me off... Edited by Z-Berenice, Jul 11 2009, 10:52 PM.

They want as many players safe from being hacked as possible? Could you please explain why question 2 is worded like this:
Most you are willing to pay. If they were doing this only to protect players accounts they wouldn't be asking that, they would simply sell it for the lowest price that they could so that as many players as possible could buy it and word that question something like "The security key costs £3/$6/4€ for us to produce, would you consider buying one for this price?". It's clearly just another product for the store, one to earn them some more money. There's nothing wrong with them earning money from physical items in the store, but what they're doing is bundling it with in-game benefits and earning a profit from it separate to what we're already paying for with our membership. If it is successful do you honestly think they won't consider doing it with other game benefits? The other reason is people are ALWAYS asking for more bank space, yet they very rarely give it to us and when they do it's barely an increase worth getting excited about and doesn't come close to the number of items they release in that time period. Now they're saying it's possible, but the only way to get that extra bank space is to purchase this security key. These are the standard updates we pay for as members, we should be getting more bank space if it's possible for them to do and we're asking for it. |

I don't think you understand the key even if the hacker has a key of there own it only give out a key for their rs account not the person they are trying to hack. SoSolid2K Question 2 - What is the most you would be willing to pay for a Jagex security key? An answer to your question would be if we said we were willing to pay $10 for the key with bank space they probably have a quote from the company that would be supplying the keys and software for how many would need to buy for them to sell them at that price or lower. |

They're gonna need to buy tens/hundreds of thousands, maybe millions anyway, these keys aren't something that are expensive to produce. The manufacturer producing them wouldn't add that much onto the price if they have a customer buying mass amounts of them. Jagex wouldn't say a price if they didn't know the cost already. They are most likely just trying to get an estimate of the profit they would make from it, and if charging too much for them would prevent a lot of players from purchasing them at all. |
