A Guide To Xfire Using Xfire Guide First… If you are interested in getting xfire go to the following site. http://www.xfire.com/download/ Second… When you have gotten xfire (if you wanted to get it) go to Tools, Add Friend(s), Search Xfire users and type in zeroship and accept the first one you see (it would be me). Third… If you want to add more information please pm me or just post it and ill add it to the Guide Fourth… If you think it is horrible, keep it to yourself this is my first guide ever written so keep the comment to yourself ( but you may give suggestions to make it easier to read or so) ![]() Keys > < (means of a subsection under a section in a menu) ( ) useful notes on anything. Installing Xfire As some people may know xfire does have many uses. If you do not know some of the uses are: Chatting in game, Hosting voice chats, Talking in game (not all games), finding servers quickly in the server section or download files, demos, game updates and many other things in the files section. After you have downloaded the .exe from http://www.xfire.com/download/ and it finishes, you open it and follow the instructions’ or just be lazy and accept everything it says without knowing a word and may have an issue later. Back to the installation process. After accepting all instructions you go to http://www.xfire.com/register/ and create a profile and enter in information that it requests. RECOMMEND TO USE AN ACTIVE EMAIL ACCOUNT SO YOU CAN ACTIVATE YOUR PROFILE, and if you forget your password. For name and last name you don’t have to spell your actual name or entire name just something people will know it’s you. After doing this and submitting it please wait around 5 minutes (I think, not quite sure) at least until you check your email and activate it. Well then the next steps are up to you really. Rather you can turn on Xfire and put in you information or reboot and do it. Xfire and Its Menu Items There are 3 menus and 3 submenus. The menu shows the 3 sections, Xfire, Tools, and Help. The submenu shows the 3 sections, Friends, Servers, and Files. The menu section Xfire when open shows My Profile, Always on top, Log Off, Close, and Exit. If you have pressed My Profile you will be brought to your Xfire profile. If you have press Always on top you have selected that Xfire will be on top of all programs. So the only time you can hide xfire is if you have minimized it. If you press Log Off you would (obliviously) turn off that you are logged on xfire and you would be able to enter under a different username if you wish. If you have pressed Close Xfire, it will simply close the maximized version and be at the lower-right corner (if you have the taskbar in its default placement). If you have pressed Exit Xfire will simply disconnect and close. The menu section of Tools when open shows Add Friend > Search Xfire Users, Invite via Email < Options, Add Custom Game Server To Favorites, Manage Screenshots, Launch > what ever games your xfire has detected < Skins > with what ever skins you have downloaded in your files section < Themes > only has themes if the skin has different themes < Friends > has different things depending on what name you have highlighted on you friends or friends of friends list. < The menu section of Help when open shows Contents and Abouts. I’ve never used these so if you know what they are just say and ill add information... The submenu section of Friends when open shows Friends Online, Friends of Friends playing, Friends Offline, and also what ever guild / clan / squad / etc… you are in. The submenu section of Servers when open shows Chatrooms, Recent Game servers, Favorites, LAN Servers, Friends’ Favorites > depending on games you have that xfire detected < All > shows all servers of the games you have <. The submenu section of files when open shows Help, Popular Downloads, Newest Downloads, All Channels, Active, Completed > depends on what you selected to be auto downloaded < Archive, Videos, Screenshots > Local Screenshots, Remote Screenshots < (this section I find to be confusing for beginners of all the channels and how to pick channels and how to know what you want to get). Xfire Uses Specifically of all the uses of xfire are: Chatting in game or out, Voice Chats, Random Chat Rooms or Organized Chat Rooms, Finding Servers, Saving Servers in favorites to join faster (not recommend for all games), taking Screen Shots, download files of many types, use chatting to sell items for business (I have actually done business using Xfire selling an item). Chatting. Chatting outside a game is clicking on a name until it’s highlighted, then all you have to do is double click it until a chat box comes up and type and press enter. To type in game you must set 2 buttons in your options to open it up (not a guarantee that it will work in all games all the time, nothing is perfect). Eventually scroll around through names, switch sections using the F1, F2, and F3 keys and using the arrow keys to move around. Voice Chats. Voice chats can be pretty useful if you prefer to talk through a headset rather than talking in Runescape, so press on the phone button and if the other person accepts talk. Voice Chats are also not guarantee to work all of the time. You can bind or have voice activated microphone for voice chats. You may also call someone from ingame (on certain games) by typing in /call and accept a call by typing /acceptcall n rejecting by /rejectcall. You can also use the voicechat to broadcast music to friend/s. I usually broadcast twice a week. Chat Rooms. These can be used for a lot of reasons. As well as just having a bunch of friends in one room to have fun. In chat rooms you may host voice chats so that everyone can have some crazy fun. Finding and Saving Servers. In the Server section of xfire there are several sections related to chat rooms and servers. Only certain chat rooms will save in the Chat Room section because not all chat rooms are (persistence) always set to. The Server sections are different > there are Recently Visited, Favorites, Friend’s of Friend’s Servers, LAN servers, All <. If you want to add favorites there are two ways. One is to right click the section or any section and press add to favorites according to IP, where you add the IP and select the game. The other way is if you have recently visited it and its in you recently visited section, you just right click the server (If it’s there) and press add to favorites. Saving Servers are not capable with Runescape, so don't even bother!! ![]() Screen Shots and downloading files. To get screen shots requires several factors. One of those factors is have two buttons set to take the pictures (not recommended to use buttons for in-game chat). Another factor is that your Xfire online (in-game access) works. Easy way to test if your Xfire online works you try to open your in-game chat. The screen shots can be viewed on your Xfire profile or in the file section of you Xfire. Downloading files, you can be in 2 places to get files through Xfire. You must be on the website at http://www.xfire.com/files/ or on Xfire. You go to the file section and go to the sub section(s): Popular Downloads and Newest Downloads. Now if you want certain kind of files to download automatically you go to All Channels to select which ones you want. If you have Xfire, you may post your login usernames here so that we can be able to add eachother :). Thanks! Edited by Thy, Oct 14 2009, 06:22 AM.

You can't know for sure unless you've tried it. It seems to me that you didn't even bother attempting to use it, lol. skype, ventrilo, and ts are all basically just voice chat servers. Xfire has that included, along with other many useful tools such as Game Detection, Instant Messenging, Screen Shots & Video, Live Video Broadcasting, etc. MSN, is a bit minor compared to Xfire seeing how it's extremely laggy when you attempt to play games, while Xfire is less laggy and works just like MSN. Xfire also has gaming tournaments where you can win prizes such as new pcs, alienware products/hardcore gamer products, $, etc. Xfire is just a useful gamers tool. Some games, when downloaded, have an optional option to download Xfire along with the game because Xfire can be useful with the game. I recommend you try it out ![]() edit: Xfire also currently has (as of 11/11/09): Registered Users 14,694,564 So it's pretty popular in the gaming world. Current RSMDB Xfire users (that I have on my friends list via Xfire): Me, Z-ber, Panix, Nacos, Sideways, Ruler, Q8yshadow, and Evan (Not quite sure what his RSMDB username/RSN is, I've forgotten. Sorry!!)

I recommend testing it before saying anything Dante ![]() It tracks your hours and you can see how long you've been online in a particular game It shows your friends your playing RS while you friends maybe are playing WoW or something You can chat from game to game without having to minimize the window You can take and upload pictures and videos You can make chat rooms, and use voice chats and mics with 10+ people Very usefull for a gamer, since it's not just a Skype or Ventrilo. |
