TFW2005 posted a story about the Amazon pre-orders: one for the soundtrack, another for the score. No artwork, yet.
The difference, of course, is that the soundtrack is like what seemed to be the only TF CD we'd get for the last movie, the one with the average licensed music; and the score was the amazing orchestral CD we got after the petition.
After the first score, and listening to the GoW 2 OST, and the bits from the trailer, I'm really excited about the score, but I will get both of them. And it seems it's getting the wide release it deserves, too, which is good.
I was actually kind of disappointed with the first score, not in the quality of the music, but in the parts they cut out. No one else seemed to care, but grossly incomplete soundtracks is a pet peeve of mine (i.e. Mass Effect, Star Wars prequels). There is a good 30-45 minutes that was missing, but I later found it and put it together into one album.
If you any of you guys are interested, or if you missed your chance on the limited release, I could hit you guys up with a download of it if you want, same with Mass Effect.

Would anyone actually be against a 2 disc extended collection for this one?

When I first heard that Linkin Park was working on the soundtrack, my biggest fear was that they were going to combine both CDs into one, like the Chronicles of Narnia soundtracks, and we'd get less of both songs. So, considering what could have been, I'm pretty happy about this.
Also, Linkin Park's new song "New Divide" is probably the one that played in the most recent trailer, because that's the way it was in the first movie, and it shows up again in this video.

Also, when they actually do come out, let's use this thread to discuss it, like favorite songs and opinions, too.

Amazon now has a special edition of the score, that is $4 more, for $17.99.
Hopefully, it won't be like The Dark Knight, and just have some cards, and a booklet, and a nice case.
I'm really hoping for 2 discs here, and (several pages of) Steve Jablonsky talking about the music in the booklet.

No offense to those who liked the song What I've Done, but everytime it was mentioned on MSN messenger I had to use my little MSN animated gif of a smily face cutting it's wrist.

Mute Math's was not bad. At least it was different, unlike Black Lab.

Whoa whoa whoa!!! I just realized that Kinjite's bad ass TF song isn't on this list!! WTF? Michael Bay just puts in random songs from nowhere, but ignores good/great songs that were made specifically for the movie? I don't blame him for The Touch (at all!) but I thought Tyrese Gibson's song was pretty good, and I love this song, and it just begs to be put in the movie, or at least the soundtrack. I hope he doesn't keep ignoring songs specifically about Transformers, because there will be even more after this movie.
But, I'll just add it in somewhere the album in iTunes, like I did with the 2007 one and this sick techno remix... So, whatever I guess...

So, we finally got some album artwork. One for the soundtrack, and one for the score. Hi-res album art here..
Like last time, the artwork is much better on the score IMO.
There is also a track list. Very minor SPOILERS ahead, not really spoilers, actually, just more like hints, especially #9.

1. Prime
2. Einstein's Wrong
3. N.E.S.T.
4. The Shard
5. The Fallen
6. Infinite White
7. Heed Our Warning
8. The Fallen's Arrival
9. Tomb of the Primes
10. Forest Battle
11. Precious Cargo
12. Matrix of Leadership
13. I Claim Your Sun
14. I Rise, You Fall

My Thoughts:
Does Devastator no have his own crazy, epic, powerful theme? That's kind of a disappointment. I hope one of these is like 10 minutes long or something.
#3: NEST, has an unreadable subtitle under it, that says something like "Includes instrumental part of "New Divide" written and performed by Linkin Park", and the German footage pretty much confirms that that song plays during NEST's hunt for Demolisher. I for one hope that that's the only song they mess with.
I'm expecting BIG things for The Fallen's theme, something very Egyptian inspired, like what we got a little tease of in the MTV awards footage.
"Heed Our Warning" as with most soundtracks, some of these track names are quotes, I wonder who is say that line, and who they're saying it to...
"I Rise, You Fall"... I thought Prime wasn't going to die? Perhaps that was the mis-information we heard about, if it happens, I would like to stay on record that I called it. :) But, this really sounds like a line that Megatron or The Fallen would say, especially right after "I Claim Your Sun".

From what we know, I would say that these tracks are completely in order, so I would love to hear some of your guys' speculation, especially with "Tomb of the Primes" and others.

But, alas, no new on what the special edition would have, I really hope it's a second disc, because this seems VERY incomplete. I hope that the rest of the music will show up on the internet like last time.

Yeah, the soundtrack is basically a list of bands I used to listen to back in college...in 2000! Not a big fan of those bands anymore. But I'm sure the kiddies will eat it up.

My mistake, it seems the special edition was for the Album, not the Score... that's not lame at all or anything.

So, I'll definitely wait for that one, hopefully it will have the Kinjite song on it.

SAMPLES!!!! Yep, 20 seconds (not 30?) of each song on Amazon, check it out, it's amazing! One quick note, why do all the tracks have "(Album Version)" at the end of them?

Following is my assessment of the preview of each track, there may be some spoilers, but it's mostly speculation about where the song plays, but still, I reference some plot points that a spoiler free person would not want to hear, so beware:

1. Prime- Very majestic, like we're used to for the main theme, which I believe this is. This song's name could have another meaning when looking at track #9. But, it seems to be a redo of the first movie's main theme, with some changes, as is customary for sequels, but it also seems to have a flavor of "Optimus" from the first score, which makes sense. But the changes are substantial, such as different background strings, a higher pitched, and predominately female choir, as well as more of an emphasis on the trumpets at the end..

2. Einstein's Wrong- I'm guessing this is the theme for Sam freaking out, but it might also be a more mellow leit-motif for The Fallen, as if it would play whenever some one mentioned him. It has as real feel of anxiety, and the excellent choir work adds quite a lot of suspense.

3. N.E.S.T.- I have mixed feelings about this clip, this song plays in Shanghai, and it features an instrumental clip from New Divide, I think this is the biggest part of what Linkin Park meant when they said they would be working on the score. The clip starts out average, but fitting for NEST, but then something happens half way through, the orchestra starts playing New Divide! The big, African drums replace the drum set, and the trumpets and some strings replace the guitar, I thought that was amazing, and I really can't wait to hear the rest of it.

4. The Shard- I thought that this would be the kind of music that "Einstein's Wrong" was, but it's clearly a battle song, perhaps when Starscream and Megatron capture the kids, but it doesn't seem quite dark enough to have anything to do with The Fallen. It's totally new, but is reminiscent of some of the songs that played during the entire encounter with Barricade in the first movie.

5. The Fallen- This clip is rather tame for the theme of the main bad guy, but it's over 4 minutes long, so it could easily change its pace. It seems to be an appropriate theme for the flashbacks that we saw in the New Divide music video. I would guess that Linkin Park had something to do with this one, too, but, it definitely seems very evil, which I love.

6. Infinite White- What the heck is Infinite White? I would now guess the desert at Cairo, although that's not white sand. This clip features a solo vocalist, and some African drums and stringed instruments, so I would say that it's possibly the introductory theme to Egypt.

7. Heed Our Warning- At 4:26, this is the longest track, and it seems to be a battle theme mostly for Decepticons, or perhaps the theme of when Sam and Mikaela are hiding in the hut while everyone's looking for them in Egypt...

8. The Fallen's Arrival- This one confuses me. Unless The Fallen has a huge, magestic reveal (kind of uncharacteristic for a twisted villain bent on destruction), this track seems way too heroic for the entrance of the big bad guy, especially compared to his other theme. Perhaps he's not the only one arriving at that time, but it just doesn't seem to fit on paper. However, I'm sure it will work great in the movie. It's also a some what long song, so it's not the only theme in that track; but the pulsing, almost footstep-timed drums seem to fit him, but the trumpets just seem too heroic... whatever.

9. Tomb of the Primes- I'm predicting this one to be my favorite, because it's a redo of my favorite from the last score "Optimus", the song that makes me cry. Although, this clip really makes me feel like something big is gonna happen in that tomb...

10. Forest Battle- Seeing as this is the epic battle that early reviewers are saying rivals the T-Rex fight in Peter Jackson's King Kong, and is the most exciting part of the movie, I was hoping this song to be 5-7 minutes, but it's actually the 2nd shortest song. But I think Michael Bay will go the Bourne route and not play music for the whole fight. I sense some Linkin Park in this one, but the clip is mostly reminiscent of Megatron's action theme from the first movie. It's thumping beat gives a really sense that the 3 Decepticons are just continually pushing up against Prime, creating some real tension.

11. Precious Cargo- This is the shortest song, I'm guessing it's the theme for the Matrix, probably a musical translation of the quote "Fate rarely calls upon us at a moment of our choosing". Perhaps the formation of Devastator (although I think that that scene will be music-less to focus on the amazing sound design of the shocking Transformation) or the appearance of the sun harvester. This track seems to reek of Sam's destiny, and his having to do something with the Matrix. But, the "Autobots" choir and trumpets return for this one, which is great.

12. Matrix of Leadership- Yes, I just said that "Precious Cargo" sounds like the Matrix theme, and it does, the theme in these clips are exactly the same, this one just seem much more heroic and successful. Kind of like "No Sacrifice, No Victory" from the last one. Perhaps the Matrix has something to do with the tomb? But, the trumpets are the same, and the choir is slightly higher, but it's a longer song, so that's not all there is to it.

13. I Claim Your Sun- It seems obvious what this is. More Linkin Park in this one, as well as my favorite sound from a soundtrack ever, from an instrument that I have no clue what it is: the deep, bass sound, played once every 4 or 5 seconds. Almost like a simple pluck on the world's largest cello, first heard in "Downtown Battle" which most of this song sounds a lot like. Also, at the very end of the clip, we get a little bit of the creepy strings from "Cybertron", the flashback scene where Papa Witwicky first meets Megatron in the ice cave. It's also a 3 minute song, and is shaping up to be quite an epic battle piece.

14. I Rise, You Fall- A very sad song, with hints of the Matrix and Prime themes, which leads me to believe we might have some mis-information on our hands regarding the fate of some characters. There is some heroic sounds in there, but it's shrouded in failure, and The Fallen's darkness. I honestly don't know what to expect as far as an ending for this movie.

I think the whole thing is about 69 minutes long, which isn't bad, but I'm still quite aggravated that there's not a second disc, nor will I probably ever find the extra songs on the web somewhere like last time. It's especially frustrating that the crap soundtrack is getting a special edition, and not this one.
But, is it bad that I'm more excited about this than the actual movie? Probably. Writing this out was more exciting and heart stopping than watching any of the trailers, for me anyways...

I would like to hear every one else's opinions, too.

Scoring Sessions has a post of behind the scenes of Steve Jablonsky recording the score, which happened only a month ago. He used a 71 piece orchestra, which is pretty big, Halo 3 used a 60 piece. There's 110 minutes of music in the film, enough for two discs. :(

It's mostly just pictures and info, no samples or anything. But, I found one thing interesting, he is recording each section (strings, brass, percussion, and choir) separately. He first talked about doing this in Gears of War 2, because then he has full control over the mix and what he wants it to sound like exactly. But, in a video game, you can actually have the game change the levels of each section to make a completely new song depending on the intensity. I just thought it was cool that he's doing it again, it'sa really smart thing to do.

It's popped up on YouTube in it's entirety, and is now everywhere for download. I will not be posting it for copyright issues, and it is very important to me that people go out and buy stuff like this, but it's out there, if you like stealing.
It sounds amazing so far. I knew that the score would be good regardless of the movie quality.
So far, "NEST" is the most epic one.
Update: Any and every song with The Fallen in it are my favorites, I love the creepy dark sounds. But "Infinite White" is just so tearfully beautiful. It's amazing and better than the last one, not surprisingly, although it's not even an hour long. Go out and buy it, you won't be disappointed.

EDIT: I've been looping the whole thing a few times today, and thought it felt a little short, so I checked, and it's 44 minutes long!!! That is unacceptable!! I can understand not making an expensive 2 disc set, but for Prime's sake, fill the disc!!! I mean 44 minutes is just embarrassing and inexcusable. I could write about 3 pages about why this is terrible and how angry I am and why, but I won't. Suffice it to say, that I am extremely disappointed in the release as a whole, but the music itself is fantastic.
