^ The nazis often tried to abuse parts of Germany's history for their purposes (the nazi greeting with the stretched out arm and the call "Heil" are just two examples). I wonder though if Hitler was aware of the fact that Barbarossa passed laws to protect jews in his realm from arbitrary attacks.

Crazy Horse - Chief of the Lakota who played an important role in several victorious battles of native Americans against the US army (e.g. Lodge Tail Ridge and Little Big Horn). He was bayoneted after being captured and trying to escape when he was about to be locked away in a cell.

George Gordon Mead - Another US civil war general who had the command during the battle of Gettysburg, although he took very little influence on the battle, except perhaps through his refuse to attack the defeated confederates.

^ Nope, you are confusing him with General John Pope who was defeated in the second Bull Run battle. McClellan never got his command again after Lincoln dissmissed him when he failed to pursue Lee after the battle of Antietam. Lincoln could not simply dismiss the "victor of Gettysburg", but due to general Grants assignment as the leader of all Union armies Meade's de facto power as the commander of the Army of the Potomac was little. He held that command up to the end of the war though.
