I just saw the movie and never read the book. The film was very nice. One of the best films I ever seen. |

You're missing out on so much if you've never read the books. The books are what started it all.

The Dinotopia books don't make for long reading. It is mostly the marvelous artwork of Gurney which makes the books so fascinating. However, he also took great care in making all the details plausible and describe many aspects of Dinotopia rather than remaining superficial. The movies (the mini series in particular) had nothing at all of this love for the detail. On the contrary, they were outrightly violating "rules" set up by Gurney in his Dinotopia books. It may be a good thing though to have seen the movies first as they may not appear so disappointing at all if you don't know the books. |

I've not read the first books in years, but as I recall the artwork was wonderful. I guess it's one of those books you can just flip through and look at the pictures instead of having to read the text every time. |

If it tells you anything, I repeatedly checked out the data book, just so I could write in Dinotopian... |

I plan on buying the first and fourth book within the next month or 2. Isn't dinotopian hard to write and and take longer then using roman letters. Though if one lives with folks who look at your notes it is a great idea to be able to write in something they can't read. |

If anyone wants, I can post a picture of the Alphabet, or a link to it here... Anyone Interested? It's not really that much harder than Regular languages, just slower. |

I wonder if anyone did a font with that so if you type a letter or number it shows up as a dinotopian script. |
