"Mythbusters Cannonball Experiment Gone Wrong" Has anyone else heard about this? Apparently on Tuesday the MythBusters had an accident with a cannon they were firing, where the cannonball literally escaped the bomb range where they were testing, and turned pinball in the neighboring town of Dublin. ![]() Apparently Grant, Kari, and Tory were testing the effectiveness of cannonballs made from different materials, firing them at water-filled barrels to gauge ballistic properties such as speed and destructiveness. However, on the third test of the day, the cast iron cannonball they were firing went over the row of barrels, tore through the cinderblock wall behind them, and deflected off the hill beyond, sending it 650 yards into the nearby town. It smashed through the front door of a house, ricocheted around the interior and eventually through the opposite outside wall, bounced across a road and off the roof of another house, finally coming to rest after crashing through the window of a parked minivan. ![]() The good news is that no one was hurt in the accident. (The owners of the first house actually slept through the whole thing, only waking up when the smashed sheetrock started raining down.) I'm immediately reminded of the MythBusters' anecdote from the top 12 locations special about the shock wave from one of their explosions wreaking minor havoc in the town of Esparto, and the time one of their cars jumped a berm in the Demolition Derby Special. This is definitely the most serious mishap they've had so far, however. Let's all hope that nothing like this happens to MythBusters again. ![]() Here's a few links to some news footage and articles on the incident: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jj-CErr0VOY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdEehdJI4OE http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-my...88.photogallery http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2011...ome-damage.html http://www.charter.net/news/read.php?ps=10...@news.ap.org%3E |

I'm glad no one was hurt. But it makes sense that if they use that are some accident is bound to happen once in a while. |

I agree that it was fortunate that no one was injured; but I can say this: It's gonna be one HELLUVA lawsuit. |

I just remembered that there had been another cannon mishap at that bomb range on Mythbusters before. It was the homemade cannon that fired a bowling ball. It missed the target (bowling pins ) by bouncing off the ground, going over the barrier and over the hill. It didn't go very far, and all I remember seeing on the other side of that hill was a large field. I'm not exactly sure what to say, other than that something happened that prevented that earlier incident from being as bad as this current one.

Sorry to hear about that mishap from a week ago 0.0 I guess if they're doing myths right now, it's for next season, right? |

A few days ago, I saw an ad on the Discovery Channel about a new show that'll be hosted by Adam and Jamie, called "Unchained Reaction". I don't know much else at this time, other than that it'll premier on Sunday, March 18. I'll definitely be watching it. |

Sounds like it may be explosive or chemistry based, or a mix of those 2. |

There's also a new season coming out soon. Unchained Reaction seems more like making Rube Goldberg machines to do some type of task. |

Last night, I watched the first episode of Unchained Reaction. It was quite interesting to see how the two teams built their chain-reaction machines based on the theme of the episode: heavy vs. light. (If anyone missed it, the rerun will be on Thursday evening.) The theme of next week's episode will be fire & ice. As for the new season of Mythbusters, it'll start next Sunday at 9 p.m. (right before Unchained Reaction) Based on the ad I saw, it looks like they're going to see if you could survive on a deserted island if you brought with you nothing but a ton of duct tape. Now this is something I've gotta see.

Hey everyone, I checked the TV Listings and guess what? This Sunday, Discovery will be airing an all day marathon of Mythbusters, which will include a brand new episode near the end of the marathon. Finally, the new episode features our good old friend, Duct Tape. ![]() Should be a good one. See ya later!

Did anyone watch the new episode last night? I'd have to say, Duct Tape Island is now one of my favorite episodes of the entire series. It was quite amusing to see duct tape being used for so many things in ways both predictable and in ways I had never expected. I'm amazed that they were able to check off everything in their "survival guidebook", so I guess that's another reason to always have duct tape with you wherever you go.

Thank you, Mythbusters for showing us how good of a survival tool Duct Tape is. Too bad you ended up right back where you started. ![]() Still, great episode there. Can't wait for next week's episode.

So, the latest episode had Adam & Jamie in a flamethrower vs. fire extinguisher battle. Whereas with Tory, Grant & Kary, it's a question of if you can hide from an unmanned spy drone with a dust cloud? Not going to say the outcome of them, but they were nonetheless enjoyable. As always.

Even though the trio could be able to fool a standard camera and a FLIR through the techniques they used, but a true test would be against a real Predator or Global Hawk spy plane, and that is sure to have better optics than what Grant had. And I doubt they'll be able to try out that part of the test. I'm still waiting to see if a sprung mousetrap could start a chain reaction of other mousetraps, some of which would clamp onto a victim stuck in the center of the whole thing. I placed that suggestion down almost a year ago. |

I liked the latest episode, but I can't wait to see the next one. I don't know what myth they're testing, but it looks like they're going to try to drive a pickup truck with square wheels on it. Square wheels! I can't stop laughing at even the thought of it!

Did anybody see this week's episode? The myth tested was if it's possible to drive fast enough with square wheels to achieve a smooth ride. I couldn't stop laughing at every attempt they made to drive that truck with square wheels. One of the funniest for me was when one of those square wheels fell off. This is definitely among my favorite episodes.

I know what you mean. It was REALLY good. The Square Wheel Myth was one of the best things to take my mind off of my recent root canal. ![]() Also, with the Date Night Myth, I was surprised they pulled off the 180. Very impressive!

Did anyone happen to see this week's episode? It was the "mailbag special" where all kinds of fanmail is answered, not just myth requests. It was interesting to get a behind-the-scenes looks at things like who draws the blueprints and how the camera crew films an explosion. I also liked hearing about that exploding van myth, which was confirmed so quickly that there wasn't enough material for it to air on a regular episode. |

I have been recording old episodes of Mythbusters with my DVR that I got more than 2 months ago. I finally got around to the first episode Buster was in. I'll just say that, even in the early days, they tried to kill him in every explosive way imaginable. Obviously, he's lived to tell every tale. He's one tough dummy. No question asked.

I recently found a video on the Discovery website that gives a preview of what to expect for some of next season's episodes: http://dsc.discovery.com/tv-shows/mythbust...012-preview.htm Looks like there will be some interesting myths next season. Can't wait to see them.
