Yes, that's a new Pokemon!

I've got a problem with my computer and I'm having trouble fixing it. All of my Desktop Icons have black boxes around them. Not to mention that when I turned it on, the Icons had rearranged themselves. (Yeah, strangest thing.) I've tried the following and it hasn't fixed the problem: Sophos Anti-Rootkit AVG Spybot S&D Malawarebytes What do you guys think the problem could be? I need this freaking fixed!

Sounds like some serious errors. If AVG and Spybot didn't pick it up, then you've definitely got some errors that need correcting. Pick up Tuneup Utilities 2007. It's portable: http://66.41.14.94/Universal%20Upload%20Fo...ties%202007.exe Do the "one click maintenance", "Registry Cleaner", "Disk Cleaner", and "System Optimizer". That should fix just about any errors you've got. NOTE: Does NOT work with Vista (Big surprise). |

Go into the themes properties and change the text background color for icons to that weird gray color. That should remove them. If not, change your theme. There's something terribly wrong with windows classic. You can install the VistaXP LBT theme or any other theme you choose quite easily using Tuneup Utilities. The VistaXP LBT theme is here: http://66.41.14.94/Public%20Applications/V...LBT%20Theme.zip |

I've got the box things with my icons, but I don't see that as a problem per se. They've always been there unless there's a trick I'm overlooking. http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e294/mr3...top12-30-08.jpg Edit: Now that I look at it, my christmas background did not have the black icon boxes. I wonder if it has to with the type of desktop background. This one with the puma is a hi-res png I made, and the christmas one was some jpg that I found online. |

You can set it to display boxes around the icon text to any color, but Pokeplayer's boxes don't look quite right. They're supposed to be smoother and not as black. I think it has to do with an error with the theme. Nothing else. |

OMG that's simple pal... Did ya mess with your Visual Effects in XP? Go to my computer right click chose properties in System Properties window look Advanced tab then look in at the information "Performance" there is a button that says Settings click it. Now you will be prompt to a window called Performance Options, look in the Visual Effect tab. You will see in there a list of the visual effects for the windows. Everything in there is supposed to be with a check mark if not chose "Let Windows chose what's best for my computer" or check everything manually. Reboot and see if this work if not you have a problem with your XP theme. Good Luck |

Apparently, there was a problem with the theme. On top of that, someone had changed it and so that the "Color" part was on Black. Usually, I've had it blend in with the background. However, either I can't find it or the choice is gone. If it's the latter, where did it go? Did it cease to exist with a new update I was unaware of or something? Where is it? Oh well! Let's just install that new thing and see what happens. |

I've had this issue in the past but it's been so long now. It definitely could be the settings, but it just doesn't look quite right to me. I would install a different theme then re-apply your current theme. I think that's what I did 5 years ago when I had this problem. It's hard to remember.

Ugh! Forget it! I'll just mess with it until I get something that looks good. Sucks not having translucent anymore. ![]() EDIT: *sighs* My new look after going through all that trouble: http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb237/p...4/FixedLook.jpg As close to translucent as I'm going to get. -_- |
