Rinkus plays with his tail; Why DOES Rinkus play with his tail?

I've always wondered about this. In "cold fire" Rinkus strokes/plays/holds his tail.

I wonder why that is? And I also wonder what he'd say to me if I asked him that.

Here's a few screen shots:

(Personally, I fidget with my hands when I get verrry nervous about something)

Maybe he likes to fiddle with his tail. As I recall there was a pink panther and sons cartoon where his oldest son liked to hold his tail and while walking around spin the last bit of his tail sometimes. SO not unusual in animation.

Allow me to put on my ~skepticals~
And it might just be a nasty habit. Like me biting my nails all the time, or chewing the end of my hair when I was little.

That's true. I always saw it as being one of Rinkus' quirks. One of my quirks is that I'll have my right thumb pressed against the side of my head when I'm thinking.

I'm a historian. I MUST be like that!

There might be practical reasons as well. I do not recon the flier would be as thick skinned (in the literal sense of the word) as most other species (who by the way are not usually shown to drag their tails over the floor either). Maybe he just wants to keep his tail from being scratched and bruised by dragging over the ground all the time. In any case I do not see what would make this a "nasty habit" of Rinkus.

I never thought of that but it does make sense. His tail may have enough muscles and such to keep it off the ground, like the tails of some monkeys, but he may prefer holding it and or it may give his hands or a hand something to do as well.

I always thought it was part of his act to make himself look more weak and cowardly. But I guess it could be a nervous habit.

I would just say it has to do with his personality, and like Malte said, maybe more literal reasons as well.

I think it is nervous tic of his. Not to mention, he may not want it to get injured or dirty, which might impede his flight capabilities.

I think of it has just one of his almost involuntary habits like when I tap my thumb against each finger without really knowing.
I first thought it was about him being nervous but in the end when he and Sierra where betraying Pterano he was holding his tail while walking towards Pterano and he didn't look nervous at all.

It's probably nothing. Just like when some people wring their hands.

People do strange things when they're nervous. For example in the earlier movies Spike would bury his head in the dirt (though it doesn't sound to comfortable I might add)

Well, Rinkus IS the nervous/cowardly type.

That's what I always got from him doing it.
