The My Little Pony - Friendship is Magic Thread; Its epic... trust me

Allow me to put on my ~skepticals~
I feel a little disappointed with it...mostly because it dashed many a shipper's idea that Discord and Celestia had some kind of mutual relationship in the past...though Celestia seemed pretty darn confident while delivering Discord, rather than some amount of "this be serious!" than I expected.

Well I've had time to gather my thoughts after having watched the episode.

It started out pretty funny. In my opinion one of the funniest episodes of the entire series. I really loved seeing Discord give Angel what he deserved from the very beginning. Also, remember when I said Applejack and Fluttershy should interact with each other more? Looks like someone on the show read my post :DD

...The ending however...killed it. I'm sorry it really did. Not only was the ending rushed but I didn't believe it in the slightest. Discord is reformed by Fluttershy telling him she's not going to be his friend? Seriously? And why would Discord even care that she didn't want to be friends with him? He's the spirit of chaos, for Celestia's sake!

I liked this episode better than I thought I would but the ending really wasn't great. I was also really hoping that Discord would have turned Fluttershy into a dragon since there were rumors circulating before season three that it would happen.

Overall I liked the episode. Though the ending did seem a bit rushed. Like maybe the writer thought the episode would be a 2 parter or got caught by surprise when they realized they only had a few minutes at most left. I would not think that discord would care if he had friends or not. Since he can change a pony's mind he can make someone a friend of his likely.

Yay, AJ and Fluttershy interacts more fanon than canon.

Okay, I was going to explain the ending of the latest episode to those who thinks it was rushed/doesn't work for Discord, but someone on EqD did it for me, so I'll just quote them.

Quote:

Okay, it seems the dominant opinion is that Discord's change was too abrupt, making this a bad episode.
So I'm here to defend the other side of the story, where many people can see it.

Discord's change wasn't abrupt because he didn't really change at all. (calm down, let me explain.)
He changed his attitudes, but not his personality. He has always done what he wanted, and he's still doing it. Though, before he wanted chaos, and now he doesn't want to lose his only friend.

Come to think of it, the only possible way of "reforming" Discord was to make him want to act reformed. And that's exactly what happened:
Remember when he looked at Fluttershy and said: "Well played."? Yeeeah. (btw, that made me cry rivers)
Welp, Celestia said so: "[...] get him to use his magic obediently at his own free will."

"I like it better my way, but I guess when you're friends you can't always have things exactly your way all the time."
He's still doing what he wants: he wanted to keep his friend, so he went there and BAM, made everything normal again. Otherwise he'd lose his friend, and he definitely didn't want that to happen.

Besides, he had never experienced friendship before, hence why he'd never acted in such a way, or similar. Once he experienced it the first time, he acted that way.
It's not like he was evil, as I said, he simply did what he wanted. Acting frindly wasn't against his principles or anything like that. So he didn't change.

And I know, Celestia said: "I definitely sense a big change in Discord.", but she was talking about his attitudes, which indeed changed a lot. I'm talking about his personality, which didn't change at all!
He is Discord, things work this way for him. Simple as that. Fast as that. The way he wants to.

Ahem. Well, I have the feeling this isn't even close to what it would take to convince you people, but well.. I did my job here. Maybe someone else can explain better.

As for better proof that it wasn't rushed.

Quote:

I don't see it as rushed, actually. It seems a lot of the perception of the abrupt heel-face turn centers on the only time Discord acknowledges he cares about Fluttershy's friendship is at the end of the episode, when he delivers the "Well-played, Fluttershy," and the like.

However, he already acknowledged prior that he was warming up to the idea of being friends at the little dinner party. The very thought gave him pause, so largely what remains at that point is whether you believe he was being sincere with that particular statement. I believe that he was, because I've never believed Discord was "evil," per se. He's mischievous, a trickster. He's more interested in being able to do what he wants, not being a jerk. Naturally, this attitude still makes it hard to make friends (especially when your power is relatively boundless compared to the average individual), but he would appreciate a good friend just like anyone else. He just didn't realize it yet.

So yeah, it wasn't rushed, but in actuality a new experience for Discord.

Sometimes, you just need to look at things in a different way to really understand what is actually going on. This was the case here.

Hope that helps some of you on this.

Now, I await the upcoming Discord&Fluttershy Fanfics. (You know they're coming! It's inevitable! ;) )

See ya later! :wave

I thought the new Discord Episode was bad. I didn't like it a lot. I try to liked it but I couldn't. One of the worst episodes I've seen yet.

Not many people I knew also didn't like the new episode and I can see why. Horrible writing and it was very childish to me.

This is the first full episode I've watched of this show, on the recommendation of a friend. I have to say, looking at it in context, and given the fact one can only do so much in a 22 minute time slot, I think they pulled off a pretty good reformation episode. That's something that not a lot of kids' shows will attempt, and given the fact that it was by pure accident this show picked up a much older fan base than it was originally conceived for, I would certainly expect this episode to be a rather discordant one (pardon the pun) for some fans.

Still, I think Pokeplayer984 has posted some good points about it, and looking at it once again from the standpoint of they only have 22 minutes with which to do so much, I wasn't expecting anything stellar, but it certainly didn't disappoint me at all either.

The show will be available in one of the largest distributors of animation by country, Japan!

Looking forward to seeing what happens to it there in April.

Best of luck, because there's serious competition there! :)

With MLP going to Japan, who thinks this would be a perfect ending theme? http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=playe...d&v=tV-ohjTlsNo

For a while now, Amazon has had a DVD listed as "My Little Pony Friendship is Magic: April". The information on it is your typical generic pony summary without an episode list.

Someone going by the name of Sebastian tossed the UPC into Google, and found a bunch of other locations carrying the disc. While the information is still generic, they all drop a specific "Twilight Sparkle Princess" title. How ominous!

I guess only time will tell what exactly is on it

Cracked does an article about the darker side of the Brony fanbase. http://www.cracked.com/quick-fixes/4-insan...t-by-grown-men/

*Rant below*

After reading some of the comments left by butthurt Bronies, I've got to say that this a major reason why the Bronies get so much flak on the Internet. Why is it that the slightest bit of negative reception is enough to get under so many Bronys' skin?

I have to ask: What makes the Brony community so much different than any other fanbase out there? What makes us different from Trekkies, Whovians, Furries, Anime fans, etc.? Every fandom has been made fun of at one point or another. How many people have made fun of furries for "having sex in fursuits" or "wanting to be an animal"? How many people have stereotyped Trekkies as being overweight, wearing Star Trek clothing and speaking perfect Klingon? Bronies are just another group that people like to poke fun at. Nobody's discriminating Bronies for liking a little girls show or anything like that. Bronies are not the first fandom to be ridiculed and they won't be the last.

So in closing, please, can this community please learn to just laugh at itself? It's not worth getting upset over something like this.
