A new Equestria Girls trailer http://family-room.ew.com/2013/06/07/my-li...-girls-trailer/

Well the plot sounds...marginally better. At least the crown serves a purpose other than to make Twilight look pretty. And Dog Spike talks now. Possibly a nod to Talking Dog from the Powerpuff Girls? I guess I can take back a bit of what I said about Dog Spike being an insult to the character. Still not entirely on board with it though.

What I don't understand is why Hasbro seems to feel the need to directly compete with Mattel's Monster High. Firstly, MLP is the far superior product. It's obvious considering how huge the fanbase is. Secondly, they had a good thing going with the characters just being ponies. This seems to be the very thing Lauren Faust was trying to avoid.

I'm not trying to knock the movie. I do plan to give it a try(and post a review of it on my Deviantart journal) but I just can't help but make some of these observations.

It's likely they see that they are successful with the target audience that MLP:FIM is targed at so they want to go for the next target audience a bit older then the first. Then if that catches on they may move on to the next one and to for young adult women or something.

Because Mattel and Hasbro are competitors so they're fighting to be the better company. But I will always love Hasbro more since they make far better products. And the movie trailer looks awesome I can't wait to see this movie soon.

So did anyone else pick up the My Little Pony guidebook? I got my copy at Barnes and Noble a couple days ago. It's got some pretty cool stuff like character bios, episode synopses, concept art by Lauren Faust, etc. Plus, I love how the book is designed to look like the book Twilight was reading in the first episode.

I don't have one but I have heard positive stuff about it. Forgot if it was the Brony Show or the Bronyville podcast, but whichever one it was briefly did mention it and said good stuff about it as I recall, a while back.

Nice picture. For some reason it reminds me of the fan video Snowdrop that I saw on the Brony Show.

So it's like the expanded universe guides for Star Wars.

Anyways, I really wonder what inspired Equestria Girls.

I think part of it might be because Hasbro decided to try and compete directly with Mattel's Monster High franchise. What prompted this decision though I have no idea. My Little Pony has the better character designs, the bigger fanbase, and the better stories.

I need to pick up my copy of Elements Of Harmony Book soon. I will look at my nearest Barnes And Noble and see if they have it.

You know what I think is strange?

Why is Equestria Girls releasing on Sunday? Don't new movies usually come out on Friday?
