The Friendly Parallelogram

I just saw that on BBC News after I had a break from my morning duties at the office. The news article said that they suspected that it was a breakaway piece of a Earth-crossing asteroid, 2014RC, which is roughly the size of a house. Thankfully it was only a piece of that asteroid that impacted, otherwise the results would have been far more catastrophic. |

Well, the one good news we can get out of this is that even asteroids as small as 2014RC are starting to be noticed when sufficiently close to Earth nowadays. The observational abilities of Earth are steadily improving. |
