Currently working on the head of my 1985 1.6 Carb. Four of my valves have this white deposit on them. It seems pretty rock solid! Is it carbon? How do I remove it? Do I need to remove it? The valve stem seals were pretty shot, they just fell apart when I pulled them. The head gasket looks pretty good, came off in one go! Posted Image Posted Image |

At a guess maybe buy a bottle of redex and empty it into a cup , leave the valves in that overnight let it soak |

yeah its carbon. not personally had to deal with it that bad but a brass wire wheel in a bench grinder should get it off. obviously they will need re-seating when they go back in. |

Came off really easily with a brass wire wheel. Lapped the valves back in. |

is it on the exhaust valves? white deposits are normally because of high cylinder temps because of lean mixture. make sure the injectors/metering head are working fine. |
