Hub removable/DIY wheel bearings; Are these easy to do?

I've been doing the mk1 the last couple of evening and im stripping all the steering, suspension and brakes down to restore or replace with new parts.

I've come across a few annoying issues with every bolt being so rusty, it's being a nightmare!

Does anyone have any good tips that would help?

Im going to get a ball joint separator to do the job with a little more ease as ive been wacking it (probably the wrong way lol) but its not moving at all!
Also looked into whether i need anything to knock the bearing out with and push the new one back in?
Another thing i cant do is get the hub off i guess it's pretty tight inside the bearing but does anyone have any tips for doing this? I've managed to slide it a little way out by winding in the wheels bolts against a piece of metal but even this is tough! there must be an easier way?

Ideally i want to do it all at home to save costs as i have no money! But if i need to buy a tool to do the job properly then i will.

Any help would be great!

I looked at getting a press for doing this.

In the end though I just took the hubs down a garage and got them to pop the hubs out.

vr6 nutter with mk1 distraction..
you will need a bench press to remove the hub from the bearing, the bearing from the housing, and to put them back together too...

I've now managed to remove the hub from the bearing. Ive got a pretty hefty vice in the garage and i held it in place and tapped it with a 32mm socket i think it was, came out with 1 tap! Also tapped out the inner parts of the bearings.

Ok I may be making a visit to you Rich when i get the new bearing.
Just thinking is there a gear puller type tool to slot through the middle and pull the bearing through?

To get the new one in also i've read that you can put the bearing in the freezer and heat the housing so they are easier to push together? Is this a loads of rubbish? Are they just too tight a fit?

Ok so i tried the method above and the bearing is just so tight it wouldn't move. I don't know how long the bearing had been in there but it wasn't playing ball. In the end i got it pressed out by my brother's girlfriend's dad! Even on a hugh press he said it didn't go easily! lol

I dont know how long bearings last but my cars done about 80,000 miles and maybe never had them changed? It certainly looked that way. I know i've never had them changed and i picked up the car at 55,000 miles.
