I Just Got Nommed
This topic seems to spring up alot on the channel, so i decided to make a topic on it. I like shooters mainly, but my favourite ones are GTA IV, red dead redemption and splinter cell conviction, because they have good stories (Splinter cells i didnt really get) and they have great combat systems. just wanted to hear everyone elses thoughts on this, so thats my view.

Every shooter boils down to online play. You cant walk two fucking feet without being sniped by a 5 year old German child. Not to mention the constant swearing...

Fucks and Shits and all alike

Shooters are the bain of my existence

The people that make fun of you ...play shooters
The people who dropped out of secondary school...play shooters
The people with The IQs of about 58...play shooters

Not to mention the complete lack of originality of every fucking shooter on the market...

Since this thread asks for opinions on "shooters" I would like to bring a few games to your attention:

  • The entire Insomniac-made Ratchet and Clank Series
  • Resistance 1 and 2
  • Uncharted 1 & 2
  • Fallout 3
All these games are considered "shooters" (among other things) and actually focus on the story instead of mutliplayer aspect.

OT: I like shooters that don't give focus entirely on multiplayer and put out an incredibly low-quality single-player aspect. Multiplayer is meant (or was meant) to be a nice piece of the game to play after you've finished the game. But, now it's turned completely around in most modern "shooters". I'm going to blame this on Kotick, instead of the new generation of idiots.

I don't know if Uncharted is technically a shooter. It is more action/adventure.

All of the examples are other things as well. "shooters" is a broad term. It's often that games are more than one genre. I find that genres put limits on what developers can do in a game. The industry would be a lot better off without them.

That is true. Genres just put games into a corner. Many multi genre games will appeal to purely shooter players.

I love shooters even though I'm an RPG guy.
My brother used to play Tribes (shooter) all the time and when we were younger we loved games like Super Mario and Kirby because all of them were just so easy to pick up and play.

My brother tried games like Guild Wars but he could never really get into it because of how much dedication you have to put into a MMO so he quit. I also played WoW but I got bored because I never really saw much point to paying to play a game and get lost in it for months. There is also a couple times where I'm forced to party with others to complete quests or instances which is kinda bad news for me since I enjoy killing Orcs on my own.

I have to agree that there is a lot of people in popular shooters like MW2 and Battlefield 2 that are douche bags and who like to follow big trends on Youtube ( ever go into search and destroy and see loud 13 year olds who always use the same load out and kill streak as everybody else?) usually it's just people who think because they have big a Epeenis that trash talk all the time. If they bug you too much you can always mute them.

I'm not sure how people can say every shooter is the same. I haven't seen a game that hasn't borrowed something from somewhere else.

Anything that lets them kill with a gun, really. That might just be in the US, though.
