I don't believe in ghosts as such. Poltergiests, physical manifestations of people and such, I do not believe it.

However, the concept of a spirit, an immortal inner being that is you I believe in. I believe those that do not live well will stay chained to the earth as spirits, not physical manifestations born from the dead but an undeniable presence that can be felt in the air.

I also have a theory about physical manifestations.
All spirits seek release to the afterworld, they seek the eternal freedom of the universe and beyond, but they cannot have it so they enter a persons mind and create these illusions refered to as ghosts as a way of asking for help, they want freedom but without any sort of physical form to speak with they make people they think can help see them in a way they can comprehend.

Ofcourse this is all in theory, honestly if pushed my faith in it is weak as I have never been 'contacted' myself.

No, not a poltergeist, they can physically move inanimate objects such as a chair and table.

According to my knowledge of your story, and only to that extent, and not to creep you out, but it sounds like a demon or an bad/evil entity.

Not to creep me out?! :(
Damn mate!

But what do you mean by your knowledge? You know something about ghosts/demons/dead people? If yes, i'm going to make a cup of tea and please, tell me. :P

Haha. Well I know many different types of ghosts and what they are capable of, etc. When I said my knowledge however, I mean like of how much I personally know compared to the description on your story. :P

For example, a typical ghost (an apparition/disembodied spirit) tend not to physically harm people and move objects and such, nor do they make noises that emulate from theirselves since these types of ghosts usually mean no harm or fear. But then you may ponder, how come footsteps and such can be heard? :o
These ghosts are known to re-construct any activity of their lifetime so by doing so, they would create the sound they would be doing as if they are human. On normal occassions, these ghosts are silent though.

Being the lover of all things supernatural (super powers, God like beings, all that good stuff), I wish ghosts could exist. But there has never been any evidence beyond 'OMFG, THAT CHAIR MOVED AND THERE WAS NO WIND! GHOOOOST!". So yeah >_>

That's a bit of an underestimation in terms of proof. There are people dedicated to trying to prove/disprove the existence, and personal experience counts for a lot. I firmly believe that we don't have the tools to measure the existence of ghosts/spirits, and when we do, then we can definitively say one way or the other.

Like I said... I could skeptically analyze and disprove my personal experiences, but that doesn't change the feeling I have that what I've been through is real.

In theory, acurately creating this machine would mean we would need to actually have ghosts for us to know when we have the machine right?

Otherwise we wouldn't know if there were no ghosts or if the machine just doesn't work.

or we could shoot a bunch of people in front of the machine and if none of them become ghosts then we know

How do you explain my bed moving away from the wall by itself in the middle of the night? Or feeling an arm come up from under the bed and a hand swish my pajama pants as if to feel if they were wet, since I wet my bed in fear from the heavy breathing and noises from under the bed? Yeah, some messed up stuff has happened to me. >.<
