Pirate Shanties; The Toegoff List (and more?)

Hey folks,

In one of my recent DA2 boss fights, I basically started just singing random pirate shanties as the fight was pretty simple, just very tedious. I figured any of you interested could see where I got them from (and some other ones I know). I love drinking, I love singing...what could be better than the two together. I've actually thought about recording our group doing this (and after hearing what I could find on YouTube...I think we just might....) As I write these...I'm actually pretty amazed at how many damn drinking songs I know....

A Drop of Nelson's Blood:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gUckwOdtsQ
Although my 'group' tends to sing it MUCH slower. Imagine the same harmonies basically...only at this tempo. (I would have used these guys as the example...but I really did not like their version at all...only their tempo.

Nottingham Ale:
A great fun little song (though the verses can be a bit tricky), the chorus however is nice and easy. We normally change Nottingham to 'Boddingtons' however.

Haul Away Joe:
Another nice fun and easy chorus. A great piece that is REALLY easy to harmonize.

Asshole Rules the Navy:
Generally just a very fun and silly song. I think it's more of just a very fun to sing.

Down Among the Dead Men:
Another great little drinking song. To those who don't want to have fun drinking, may you rot down among the dead men! :D

South Australia:
Another very fun chorus, though the person singing the verses usually needs to be VERY quick. The song goes fast and being able to rattle off versus quickly can be pretty tough and tiring. A fun change I made (as I usually sing the verses...despite being the only one in the group not a professional singer o.O ) was a verse
I'm liverpool born and liverpool bred -- Long in the arm and thick in the head
to
I'm American born and American bred -- Strong in the arm and great in bed :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lM5x3TJpP24

My Man John:
One of the funnest songs we have. Generally it should be sung very serious and straight faced. Only because the lyrics are so funny it needs to be done seriously (btw, the 'thing that was long' refers to his comb, and her thing that was hairy refers to her actual hair :P)

The Scotsman:
Another very funny song. This is a song a lot of people know as it did become pretty famous

He Who Will an Alehouse Keep:
One of the simpler songs. Our group tends to sing it much faster with a lot more life. A nice little round though to have fun with.

Fathom the Bowl:
A slower song...I actually was not able to find audio on it believe it or not. It's still a pretty fun song. Sorry couldn't find any music with it.

Fields of Athenry:
Perhaps one of my favorite songs ever. Just so much fun and can be sung so many different ways. Love it.

What Do You do with a Drunken Sailor:
Boring because of how often it's done. Our group has made a game out of it however. A fun little elimination game where everyone sits around the table singing it. Each verse goes on to the next person, no repeats. You can make up your own verse as long as it fits. Every time someone goes out...we drink. A TON of fun.

Was a lot of fun last year at the PA Renn Faire. We weren't a part of the show, but we walked around with our mugs and just sang. A lot of people were asking to get pictures with us thinking we were part of the hired entertainment...little did they know we were just a bunch of drunken nerds having fun :D

I'm sure I'll remember some more later, but there's a few to get you started.
Feel free to add any of your own. I'm always looking to expand my library so any awesome ones you know, let me know :D

Ed (Kalosh) and I at the renn faire got so depressed. There was a show for 'tavern drinking songs' that we went to...they played a drop of nelson's blood...one of our favorites...though the verses actually made us get up and leave.

"And a wink from a chicken wouldn't do us any harm..."
(there was no innuendo meant at all, it was the chicks turn to come up with the verse and she clearly forgot)

And another dollar spent wouldn't do us any harm

And a P-A Renn T-Shirt wouldn't do us any harm

And another glass of water wouldn't do us any harm

It was find of funny, Kalosh and I were the only ones really singing at the show, and when we got up and left, it was pretty noticeable...and pretty funny.

Hi there,

Great Big Sea is definitely the way to go! I don't think they've ever done any pirate shanties, but they certainly have the high spirits down pat!
You can find'em on Youtube. Awesome stuff! Have a great evening!

Well, there is always Charlie Mopps! :D The names of the bars in the lyrics seem change depending on who you ask, in this version they chose to use the bars in the game.
