screenshots... How would that tell you if you're going to like the game or not?

Well, there are some people who value grapahics more than anything else so ...

Gameplay videos and LP's is varied IMO. For example, I was watching Toegoffs Arcanum LP and thought I would give it a try because it looked fun etc. But after playing for awhile I thought the game was boring.

Still the legal thing to do though :) If somebody pirates games, plays them abd then buys them of he thinks that game was worth it, then it's perfectly fine. But do you honestly think that even 10% of the people who pirate games buy them afterwards ? Not likely.

EDIT: Here's a fun vid for you all: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/vie...its/2653-Piracy

Hint - demos, reviews, screenshots, gameplaye videos, LPs. I don't think that lack of information is an excuse really

As said, some games don't have demos, and short demos aren't enough in most cases in my opinion. I mean...I played the DA2 demo and thought it was.....ok. Look at the piece of shit and what a waste of money that game turned out to be.

Reviews are fine.....but again, look at the high reviews DA2 got and what the game turned out to be.

Screenshots tell nothing, only that the game looks pretty. I saw screenshots of final fantasy 13 and really wanted the game. I saw videos of it and really wanted it. It's only now that I've seen a let's play of it that I'm happy I didn't have money to spend on buying a ps3 just so I could play the game, as I was planning on doing.

Let's plays are, in many cases, the best way to get someone to actually buy a game in my opinion. You get to look at the game, the way it really is. The let's player commentates on how it feels like to actually play the game. It's also the best way to found out if it's a waste of money. However....not nearly every game has a let's play, and not nearly all let's plays are good. That's how I ended up buying DAO.

So I will still say that I won't be putting out nearly $90 on a game that I don't know I'll love and re-play a lot....I just don't have that kind of money. That said.....I won't pirate a game I'm not sure I'll like either. I HAVE pirated games, as a young student with literally not enough money to buy a game (I really do mean literally...no money on the account) that was the only way I was able to play games. I'm not proud of it, but that was and is the reality for many young people.

Well obviouslt scrteenshots can't really tell you anything. What I meant was that nobody is saying you can't use all of those thing TOGETHER to get a good idea of what a game is like (e.g. look at gameplay videos for the *gasp* gameplay (duh), LPs mainly for the story, reviews for a general information on the game, screens to see what it looks like on the highest settings etc.)
